Updated Garmin Pilot in iPhone. Got in the air. Got a message stating “setting up GaminPilot 1/3” and needed WiFi connection. Great unusable when needed. On the ground now, connected to WiFi, and the same message, even after rebooting the uPhone. Wondering if Foreflight is the way to go, or am I just wrongly angry that I expect the GPS app to work. Same issue in the air with the iPad, but it set up on the ground after connecting to WiFi. I can’t believe a Garmin update does not go to completion. I’m glad I take my 496 with me.

Pginz's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
I have been using this app since it came out. Garmin is awesome at keeping this app current. This is the app to use for flight planning and in the cockpit assistance. It is super user friendly and can be used in rough weather. I believe this is the most pilot friendly app for flight planning and actual in cockpit usability. You need to keep buying new iPads as they come out because the software is pretty heavy. It is packed with horsepower and every two to three years the processors can’t keep up. I have an iPad Pro that’s a year old and does great.
MadDadVne's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
I had been enjoying this app on my iPad 2Air as a useful tool in the cockpit for a couple months. So much so that I got a Garmin GLO to compliment the new iPad Pro I bought believing it would enable the app to run better with all that gig space to stretch itself out in. It’s been a great secondary navigation tool to have, and has some really neat features to enhance flight safety for a training PPL pilot planning to continue through ATP. I had spent time customizing a 172 checklist to include the particulars of my flight school so that I can reference it anytime preflight through securing the airplane. Using the iPad suctioned to the window is much less cumbersome than fiddling with a multi-page laminated booklet, especially while flying and working through emergency scenarios. I have added things to the various lists over time - MPHIAS and KIAS for instance. Tonight I added to one of the lists and upon saving, lost all but two categories; the two categories that remained were incomplete. They are unrecoverable. I attempted to restore a previous backup, but that apparently only applies to documents such as maps and charts. To compound the insult, the checklist synced so that the Garmin Pilot on my iPhone and older iPad 2Air are now lost as well. I have an oral and flight Phasecheck to pass prior to flying my solo cross country and now have to spend time rebuilding my checklists and hoping they don’t disappear again. Considering that these aviation products are made for a 24 hour profession, it’s concerning that there is no 24 hour customer support available to call. Searching the web only reveals info about ‘scrambled checklist’ patches. This is supposed to be an app that decreases stress and workload in the cockpit, but not at the cost of adding to it at home.

Truly yours.'s Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
For the most part GP is easy to use and a good deal of pertinent information is presented. It is easy to read and thus far I have found it to be very reliable. One of its strongest features is the coordination between an iPad and a Garmin cockpit. I would like it to follow closer to Foreflight where it comes to departures, arrivals, and easily accessible runway heading information (not just runway 03, but 034 degrees, etc), as this information is buried and in some cases not available at all. Overall, Garmin Pilot is a very good product and I will continue to use it.
Alepm's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
Great app, have been using it for a while and it is an excellent tool! Having said that I live in Guatemala and there are a lot of map issues and waypoints that are in the wrong place, would love to be able to edit them and have them be in their correct place also be able to add airports that are not in the database, private runways. Aside from this love the app!! Hope you can fix the issues
Woody242's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
I’ve been a foreflight user for years and I loved it. Moving to some Garmin avionics and figured it would be better for integration to look at pilot, I have dismissed in the past but was more motivated this time. Wow, it is so much easier to get info, the auto binders for flight plan airports are great, used to do this manually in foreflight. Also love the widgets, the scrolling is awesome. I asked foreflight for a split screen feature nothing. Garmin knocked it out of the part. I also love the radial info dial on the charts. I look forward to improved flight planning now that Garmin owns fltplan.com. The weather briefing is the only main feature I miss in foreflight at this point.

I have been using foreflight (5 stars) and Jepp Mobile HD, which is fantastic as a replacement for paper charts but not a full fledge navigation app. The Garmin app STINKS. While the user interface is good, i have no had the entire set of data mysteriously dissapear. Went to jump in plane this morning to fly home from last night and all of a sudden all of the nav data, charts, and maps are gone!!!!! So caution to you all as this has appaerently been happening to many others. Check that you have data before you plane on using the app. Until this is fixed, the app is useless and a peice of crap. Now the currentversion wont even open. Crash crash crash. Back to foreflight and Jepp Mobile FD Its now 3/2019 and nothing has changed. The app still crashes repeatedly. I continue to use foreflight over garmin pilot and recommend foreflight.
bkre78's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
I have been a long time user of both Garmin and Jeppesen. Things I like, easy flight plan changed when IFR that can be quickly sent to my gps. There things I don’t like: VFR vector maps do not have topo lines. Also VFR corridors available on TACs through class B are not available anywhere. Jeppesen VFR vector maps not available. Things I don’t like about the IFR maps: Garmin vector maps are worthless. No minimum crossing altitude points available, no VOR radial information for victor airways, MEA’s missing on some victor airways, (these are the ones I know of) and Jeppesen IFR maps not available, only the approach plates are available.
snowmobilejer's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
Read the other review that this beats ForeFlight. Well...I’m not sure what rock that person came out from other, but no way. Not even close. Garmin Pilot is a great program, and I use it as my backup in case my ForeFlight goes down, and I would be perfectly comfortable using it as my first line nav program— but why would I when I have the full ForeFlight suite. I guess it just boils down to preference. ForeFlight in my opinion is the hands down winner all the way across the board.
RyanTypeDude's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
A little concerning that an aviation app freezes/crashes so frequently. Called support and they told me to use the Restart Option (in main iPad settings) “Switch to Map Page” as a workaround to get it out of the freeze. This worked, but after doing so, the map settings I selected were reset to default and turns out the app “backup” that it does doesn’t include these settings (so restoring the backup is worthless) so I have to redo these every time I have to reboot the app with these settings.
Dr. Nick's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/28/19 1:42 PM
During an instrument flight yesterday, this app crashed every 15 seconds. Approach plates could not be loaded as a result. Upon contacting product support, I was told: “it’s an app, it’s going to crash.“ Think twice before depending on this app to get you through anything but a clear VFR day. Apparently, there is a known glitch in the software with the iPad 3 running the current iOS.

They read like they were written by The Hulk. “App bad, Hulk smash.” I have been using Pilot without a single issue for three years. Garmin should have Billy D. Williams be their spokesman, because it works every time. Reading the manual probably helps, too.
justingraff's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 8/17/18 5:32 PM
I have used it for at least 6 years. Great app. Constantly improving it. Has always had better map readability than ForeFlight, and even with FF’s improved vector based maps Garmin Pilot still is superior. Too numerous to count features. ADS-B weather and traffic works great. I like that they generally add features without adding multiple pricing levels. The only weak area in my opinion is the weather briefing which still just gives an DAA standard briefing, and is the sole reason I keep my ForeFlight subscription. I suspect ForeFlight will improve the preflight weather brief in the future. It even works with my flight simulator that I use to practice instrument approaches.

I have used this app for two months now and it has been great. Like all of Garmin's products, there is good support, the product is intuitive and easy to use, the colors are vivid and the fetchers are awesome. I am just downloading the latest version today, I am sure I will not be disappointed. Update 08/15/18 I’ve used the app for years, and they continue to improve and add valuable features. One of the only complaints is lack of echo tops, this is the biggest pain in the you know what to have to look outside the app for this info, or not have it at all while relying solely on GP. Please help Garmin!

Can’t click an airport and get weather, airport info, etc. as I could in previous versions. Just get the spinning wheel. This used to work fine. After 9.4.1 it no longer works. Garmin aviation support acknowledged the spinning wheel issue in 9.4.1 and customer service/tech support first told me on 8/13/18 the issue was fixed “3 hours ago” and to check again after rebooting. Did that and called in again when the spinning wheel wasn’t resolved. Next agent tells me the issue is fixed with the latest update. I hang up and check the App Store - 9.4.1 is the latest, problem is still occurring. Next agent I speak to, states I have to uninstall and reinstall. Cool. No problem. I have “just” enough time to do that before my scheduled departure. Do that, and guess what... Still have the spinning wheel. Pretty disappointed that basic functionality has been broken for so long now. I originally thought maybe I had an LTE coverage issue or something but nope. This is happening on my iPhone and iPad while connected to LTE, Wireless and my brand new GDL52.... spent a lot money investing in the now broken Garmin Pilot ecosystem of products. Thankfully still within my return window to return the GDL52 to Sporty’s and go to Foreflight.

I am a huge fan of Garmin pilot and if you're reading this deciding whether or not to use it over ForeFlight, you'd be making a good decision to try it out. I find the user interface design to be superior in Garmin pilot. HOWEVER, one of the best things about this app, the radial menu, is not loading properly in the most recent version! When I long press over an airport it doesnt load the airport, weather, or any other items that typically appear on the right side of the radial menu. It just shows the inner loading ring indefinitely. This is true on both my iPhone and iPad pro. It's killing me because I use that menu constantly during a flight. Finally, there needs to be a better way to get support and report bugs. Submitting a review, like this one should be a last resort.

Rarely do I take my time to write reviews, however this app warrants one. I got a year free IFR subscription to this but after 1 week I bought Foreflight because of how terrible it was. Foreflight always runs seamlessly on my iPad mini 4, this however has a tendency to freeze during the most critical times in flight, and drop my trusty GPS’s signal all the time. After switching back to Foreflight my GPS hasn’t dropped once, nor has the app frozen. Also half the time the button to display approach charts on the map don’t appear, and other things of this nature. If you’re deciding between garmin and Foreflight, go Foreflight hands down.

The app is good, I live outside US, in Guatemala, there are a lot of airports that are wrong. Is there a way to fix them?!? Also is there a way to create airports? Private runways? To add to other airports correct frequencies? Runway headings? Etc. I love the app and its a great tool to use while flying but its lacking on some areas. The rest of the app works great and i love the easy to use “buttonology”. Would like to see a safetaxy in our country. How can we help to get this?

Feels like a slap in the face when spending tens of thousands on the radio stack with all Garmin products to then spend another $75 on an app, that appears to still not work. Not sure if it is a pencil pusher, programmer, or a millennial making the decisions at Garmin. Maybe all three. It is good there are other options for pilots today.

PilotTim's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 4/25/18 9:25 PM
It’s a tight competition here with ForeFlight. The new icing profile view is outstanding. Foreflight should take notice of this: they only just implemented airspace profile, so Garmin is a step ahead. This would be five stars if there were some way to reduce the size of the airport icons. Right now the map just looks like a bunch of airport icons.

When entering a DC SFRA flight plan, the departure and exit gate (or entry gate and destination) are randomly overwritten with default values. It usually happens when I switch to a different plan, whatever gate I have entered is replaced with some other value. Can't trust this app for filing DC SFRA.
AlienFanatic's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 3/27/18 11:14 PM
I'm currently trying GP as an alternative to ForeFlight, which I've been using for years. I'm updating some of my avionics to newer Garmin gear and I think their app will integrate well. Because I use both iPads and a Pixel phone, the cross platform compatibility is huge. (The guys at ForeFlight are positively snotty about never supporting Android, which makes me anxious to move away from their product ASAP.) The interface is much prettier than FF and quite intuitive. The more I use it, the more I enjoy it. I'll update my review as I become more proficient. However, there is one issue that bugs the heck out of me and it's that Garmin cuts off the date info on the FAA IFR charts! I use that info as part of my workflow when I'm briefing an approach. Without it, I can't be sure that I'm using the very latest charts as required by the regs. I hope Garmin fixes this and it's why I deducted a star. (The fact that the app automatically loads the plates based on my flight plan is BRILLIANT, though!)

PilotTim's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 2/20/18 7:48 PM
The iPhone X has been out for a few months now - yet Garmin Pilot doesn’t natively support its screen size. ForeFlight added support for this months ago, and Apple will be requiring developers to support it by April 2018. It’s a tight competition here. Waiting so long to release an update unfortunately indicates how nimble Garmin is with this product. Also, since they launched this product, the SIGMET overlay has been composed of a bunch of dots, obscuring the underlying map. Don’t they know that they could make the overlay a different shade and translucent, like ForeFlight does?
RDGUATE's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/6/18 12:36 PM
The app is very friendly and accurate specially using an Athena. It would be much better if the map had an option to display more names of the small towns or cities where you are flying. Maybe it does it but I have not found how. I was advised to use google maps at the same time. Any other advise? Thanks

I love this app but the pre-release testing is inadequate. Every few updates it crashes nonstop and I have to remove the app from my iPhone or iPad and reinstall along with downloading all the data. I’ve never had this issue with FF. This is a serious problem with something I’m spending real money on!
C172Pilot's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/27/17 11:59 PM
The latest version with bug fixes is great! Sometimes Garmin doesn’t completely test their apps before releasing them. Seems to run smooth and so far no crashes. However may require more iPad horsepower than previous versions especially when connected to a Bluetooth device and the display gets busy with traffic and wx. Interface is clean and easy to file a flight plan. Great information and data given for the flight plan. Still lacking good weather information for flight planning when compared to the competitors weather page. One of GPs best features is auto-plate load, no hunting for approaches. Would like to see an option to save reminders, like switch tanks, get ATIS, etc. I have to enter them for each flight - cumbersome. Would like to see auto-routing for approaches. GP has come a long way since its inception and supports numerous Garmin products ..excellent application, fly with it all the time.
Dr. Nick's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
What should have been an easy to use tool for pilots is unfortunately completely unreliable. With each new update either with Apple software or with the app itself, it is a complete crapshoot if the current version will work. As a subscriber since it's inception, I have grown tired of glitch after glitch, the latest just today, where the app fails to sense its own database. Support for the app is during business hours Monday through Friday. This is hardly helpful in flight planning, especially when there is still another problem. There are too many good, stable, and competing platforms to put up with this app.
Rgtk's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
Not sure when this happened but to download expired VFR/IFR high and low charts it now requires you to delete the expired charts one by one, forces you to confirm each download one by one, and then doesn't do anything or delete them. You can select all to download all of them, but it's a colossal waste of time and memory. What a mess. Please stop making 'improvements' that add zero value, or at least use your product before you unleash this kind of nonsense on the user base.

There are lots of mistakes, mostly 200 cary overs. Some just flat out wrong definitions. I wrote the review but when, as a last step, I put in my "nickname " I was told that name was taken and my review vanished. I have owned the aforementioned combination for three years and I intend to switch to Fore Flite. Dropped Bluetooth connections, data that won't expand, day old data purporting to be current, unavailable radar, a screen that locks up, a screen that's unusable in mild turbulence, the list of problems is endless and seems to be worsening. I adamantly suggest you buy something else.

I am an instructor and I use the app almost daily. For the most part I like it but every once and I while I am surprised at whats missing or how frequently an iOS update will break it. The other day I wanted to make a cold temperature correction to a DH and discovered that there is no TERPS legend section anywhere to be found. They do include an inoperative equipment page and climb table but thats it. If you need to look anything else up like circling approach distances or temperature corrections or what a symbol means you better carry a paper copy or have a PDF on your device. I called to confirm and was told that adding the legend will be in a future update. Another annoying problem is that the checklist function is broken in this (8.6.3) and the last version. No word on when it will be repaired.
App_Man's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
This is a nice app to use in the cockpit. It is a big help where it has the NEXRAD on the IFR enroute charts. It is really good because I use the GNS 530 to fly with. This is much better than my GNS! This app needs some improving... - ADS-B Traffic Alerts visually and voice announces "Traffic, Traffic". - Split screen for two Approach plates. Example, STAR split with A/P diagram or Approach plate with A/P diagram. Also split screen on synthetic vision. - Active legs appear magenta and has "approaching waypoint" indicator like GNS 530 so pilot knows when to change course - SafeTaxi easier to find and more availability (my local airport doesn't have it available) - Improve the METAR weather page. It says "No Wx" and many airports I go to has an AWOS and publishes a METAR. - Lower Price! - Make HSI have selectable HDG... For example, Direct a VOR and you can change heading to make needle center. - Needs a "Procedure" button like the GNS 530. I want to load an instrument approach for situational awareness - Approach plate on map page overlay. - Would be nice if Geo-Ref could be available on the actual airport diagram. - Vertical Speed indicator user changeable from 2,000 FPM to 6,000 FPM - Needs Runway Proximity Advisor™: The Runway Proximity Advisor is a visual and audio alerting feature – designed to help reduce runway incursions – that advises you when it predicts your aircraft is approaching, entering, or crossing a runway... Just like ForeFlight - Needs holding patterns and pattern entry similar ForeFlight - Needs reminder messages programmable at certain times - Checklist - Better integration with 1-800-WX-BRIEF to file a flight plan electronically. - Needs a small circle similar to a G/S that has a descent profile loaded to get a proper descent angle to get to desired altitude. Other than this, Garmin Pilot is my choice for the cockpit.

You'd expect better QA from a company like Garmin but they release this app with bugs time and time again. Latest issue is my iPhone version of the app suddenly stopped syncing logbook data ao signed out and signed back in and now the app doesn't recognize my subscription. After a 30 minute wait to get support on the line they confirmed what appears to be a bug but don't have an ETA for when it will be fixed. Not the first time I run into this type of issue with the app and Garmin.

The aeronautical data base map is excellent and probably the key benefit of this application. The biggest negative (for me anyway) is that the stadium TFR's as depicted are completely useless. They essentially show where the stadiums are with no information at all about active dates / times. Garmin, please fix that glaring shortcoming and you'll have a real winner.

The Auto Logbook was working nicely when first released, but it hasn't worked reliably for a number of releases now. Should work in the background, even if Garmin Pilot is not in the foreground. It was, now it is not.

I am totally happy with this app that provides advanced capabilities for a pilot to plan, schedule and navigate a flight.

Latest update crashes before you can hit the button marked "report crash". Reloaded several times, still crashes. iOS up to date. Just a bit frustrating. I expect better from Garmin.

Unless there is a need for the new BETA Flight Planning (re-designed interface), for filing ICAO Flight Plans through LM , stick with the more familiar and user-friendly version 7.5.

Greatest hills!'s Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
There are good and not so good features, but the unacceptable condition is when you can have everything up to date. Takeoff IFR and get locked out of the app. for the whole weekend. Garmin just decides you are not a customer and locks you out. They don't answer the phone after there banker's hours. When you call on Monday they will reset your password even if you want your old one.
KC1974's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
It's been quite a while now, and there is still no support for the Garmin D2 Bravo watch. Or the latest D2 Bravo Titanium. $600 or $900 on a watch and there's less support for them than the original $400 D2... Doesn't justify the cost of a subscription at all.
Mike_cmel's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
Whoever re-designed the user interface section titled Beta should consider a different line of work. So many critical features missing, no manual, and no help from Customer Support. Since it's recent release, version 8 has already been updated btwice in an attempt to fix this aweful Beta version. Garmin, will you please hire a quality assurance team to complete your testing (prior to release) instead of inflicting this useless version 8 on paying customers. Please listen to your customers when you fail. For Pilot users the best advice is, do not upgrade to version 8, or any of its still broken updates.

Torchard's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
Full of bugs! My Garmin Pilot app has stopped reading its database twice. I can find no resolution other than to reload the entire database each time. Foreflight is way better! I'll be going back to them as soon as the subscription expires. Maybe even before. Much more intuitive than Garman Pilot.

My aircraft has a small baggage area forward of the datum, which would require a negative moment arm. However, no provision is made to enter a negative number. I'm unable to make full use of the W&B feature until this is fixed.
Martin Green's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
It would have been nice if Flying ace 2, the previous reviewer, had upgraded to the most recent version of Garmin Pilot and actually knew something about the program before writing his quite off-the-mark review. Garmin Pilot, in its most recent versions which were released BEFORE the date of his review, fully supports overlaying the approach chart right over the moving map display together with all of the weather and traffic overlays available if you have an ADS-B equipped airplane. It also supports the use of Jeppesen charts which is really only of use to IFR pilots. Finally, it is certainly possible to have multiple windows on the screen. Right now, I have the moving map with weather, traffic and the Jeppesen approach plate on the left screen and, at the same time, an AHRS driven, HSI based panel on the right. These features have been part of Garmin Pilot since before the date of Flying ace 2's review. Garmin Pilot is a fabulous program with a graphics engine superior to ForeFlight at the moment. Garmin came out with a data-driven map display long before ForeFlight's newest release and it is still graphically superior. I expect ForeFlight to catch up soon. That's why I use both in my IFR flying and keep them updated to their respective latest versions.
kchunter289's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 12/16/18 12:50 PM
I have been using Garmin pilot for over three years now. I serve as the Chief Pilot for a large flight department and Garmin is simply the best. All of our pilots use it and love it, especially with GDL-39 ADS-B overlay. If you have used any Garmin device in the past, you will easily take to the app. The Jeppessen chart incorporation is really nice too for international operations. Great value and customer service/support that is second to none makes this my EFB of choice. Not to mention, Garmin is so far ahead of everyone else in aircraft avionics.
modollenroc's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 11/8/17 4:16 AM
The app will not allow me to create an account for my iPad, iPhone or on a computer. I've tried this for over 24 hours and it will not allow me to click the "create account" button. I bet foreflight will gladly take my money...
jjcapurro's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 11/25/17 12:31 PM
Easier to use and a MUCH better interface design than FF. Keeps getting better and better! Now with open street maps! Nice! Switched two years ago and no regrets.

Geoff MacLeod's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 11/17/17 6:01 PM
The update will REMOVE your checklists and airplane binders ...and also prevents syncing with flygarmin. You cannot even retype checklists, the updated version will not allow you to save anything for aircraft - including checklists, performance, etc. The Android version seems to work still.

Flyboy0479's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 11/16/18 2:03 PM
I really liked this app at first. But lately the logbook doesn't work right and the airport section won't load. Very frustrating and when you consider the price the app should run itself.

Latest update now supports the ability to view split screens on the synthetic vision page. This allows quick access to information such as widgets, maps, and approach plates! Now the AHRS is a great setup for a backup attitude system. Excellent update.

FutureRide's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 11/16/17 9:38 AM
EFB is clunky at best Wx briefings are difficult to get and figure out (departure is there, but not dest or enroute) and unable to manually add aircraft performance data... Navigation with Garmin GLO GPS is not reliable on a good day... Logbook fails to log 70% of the time... Back to ForeFlight or a Sectional, E6B, and a piece of paper...
sbestcfii's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 11/15/17 10:33 PM
Garmin Pilot was good when it was introduced and gets better with each version. I believe it has surpassed Foreflight in it’s latest releases. The planning is easier, the Home icons are easier for us older aviators, and a great feature for us IFR flyers is the auto-loading of Instrument charts for all airports in your flight plan being automatically loaded for you. I really recommend Pilot over Foreflight when I am giving instrument instruction and have e several converts. I also like how Garmin makes it’t hardware compatible with other programs while Foreflight continues to be proprietary. My students can connect to my GDL device and get all the ADS-B data. Full feature pilot is also a lot less expensive than Foreflight. Being able to run on two platforms and on three devices is also a plus.
Bulle72's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 10/9/18 9:58 PM
I have used runwayHD and SkyDemon and for VFR flying and planning they are far superior, versatile and easy to use than the Garmin App. The simple process of importing and exporting a route between any other app (which is possible on all other apps) is not possible with the Garmin Pilot App. From a user experience point of view the interface is poor. I am disappointed as I have recently installed Garmin equipment in my helicopter and was hoping for an easier integration. They have a closed system approach. One can only hope for improvements ...
BarryErik's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 10/28/18 4:15 PM
I’ve used the app for years now and love how it’s similar in design to my Garmin cockpit. The gdl 52 really makes this app powerful and I wouldn’t fly without it.
lgj1228's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 10/24/18 2:36 AM
I just wanted to bring up an issue I am having while viewing winds aloft forecasts. When I slide the time blocks at the bottom over to a future block to view info, the screen will revert to the default current time block. The screen flickers slightly when it happens. If I am copying wind speeds and directions and dont catch the change I’ll be viewing the wrong info and have to slide back to the time block I was viewing. It seems to do it after about 10-15 seconds of viewing a time block. Otherwise, 5 stars. Maybe something can be fixed in a future update.
C172Pilot's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 10/21/18 1:13 AM
The application is excellent. Does not have some of the bells and whistles that Fore Flight does, but for what it does...it does very well. Probably the best it’s ever been, and the user interface is superb. But...unfortunately it’s slow. Specifically on an iPad mini 4, the fastest iPad mini to date. With wx, ads-b, moving map, traffic, Bluetooth connection, my iPad gets hot, the screen refresh is slow, touchscreen response is delayed. The iPad mini 4 just can’t keep up. During flight, scroll or zoom out of the map brings up a gray grid. Then nine inch iPad Pro is too big for yoke mount, and I personally don’t like it on my knee. So rumor says Apple has canceled the iPad mini and the Android version is not worth the effort. Come on Apple!
Mik_NY's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 10/17/18 9:40 PM
Yet again, Garmin releases a new version with bugs generating Aircraft error messages, with the Garmin Aviation Product Support team having zero knowledge of the new features (for further integration with fltplan.com) and completely useless with technical support. It’s easier to blame fltplan.com, but the errors are wholly and exclusively due to inept developers for the Garmin Pilot app. ... you’re making it almost impossible to remain a Garmin customer.

flitetym's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 1/26/18 1:36 PM
I find Garmin Pilot functions well, and I give it high marks for user customization — however, an attribute that I feel also makes it less "intuitive", with a somewhat steeper learning curve than FF. While users can generally find they can "jump right in" to Foreflight, Garmin's Pilot took me a day or so before I reached the "aha!" moment. (True, I admittedly had to "unlearn" FF to embrace Garmin's logic.) So the winner is? For the occasional pilot and "weekend warrior" (which there are many),the hat-tip goes to software producer ForeFlight. However, for the operator with an eye towards integrating existing and future hardware additions in the vast and continually expanding Garmin "eco-system", without question, it's Garmin's Pilot.
PilotTim's Review of Garmin PilotReviewed on 1/12/18 1:47 PM
The iPhone X has been out for a few months now - yet Garmin Pilot doesn’t natively support its screen size. ForeFlight added support for this weeks ago. It’s a tight competition here. Waiting so long to release an update unfortunately indicates how nimble Garmin is with this product. Lastly, since they launched this product, the SIGMET overlay has been composed of a bunch of dots, obscuring the underlying map. Don’t they know that they could make the overlay a different shade and translucent, like ForeFlight does?
