Reviewed on 9/3/19 1:47 PMOne thing that I have found that I dislike about the app is the search function. Let’s say I open the app and conduct a search. It finds my results, and if I select a result, a new panel appears on the right side of the screen that shows the update map. I cannot seem to merge the search results into the main screen. I do not want a small sliver of screen. If I search for a location, chances are I want the map to be centered on my selected search result. Full screen, big map. No small windows or split screens. Horrible aggravating implementation of search.

Reviewed on 12/13/18 12:55 PMWhile this app has its issues, the concept is so wonderful. It makes travelling so easy, using your GPS data on downloadable maps. Very accurate, and I love the ability to save folders of points of interest for different trips. Keep working on this app - it's great!

Reviewed on 12/13/18 12:55 PMI had previously paid for the offline Topo maps and now they aren't available at all in this newest version 3.4? This was the only reason I used Galileo and now all the utility is lost for me. What gives?

Reviewed on 12/13/18 12:55 PMI've been using it for years and it just keeps getting better!! Lots of updates all the time, they are on the ball. Constantly updating the app AND updating the downloadable free maps. It has small DETAILED downloadable maps that you can access fast, require no data (other than when you download them) and uses less power (no data means less power). Be sure to download your maps in advance of your trip so you don’t eat up your power or data. This is not ANYTHING like what the program would do the first few years that it was out, this is an AWESOME FREE improvement. This app works SO DIFFERENT now, YOU NEED TO IGNORE REVIEWS OLDER THAN A YEAR. If you download AND select vector maps in advance, you will not use data with this app. This feature costs nothing. It’s great to have a map that does not require data downloads or a signal. I travel to Costa Rica often and it’s a must have app. Please understand what this app does. It’s a digital MAP, not a GPS, the map will show you where you are, not route you (just like a big paper map, but with a magic dot where you are). If you download the vector maps (and have the settings set for vector maps) it does not need any data (I use this on an iPad with no data plan and it works great!). These are vector maps: small detailed scaleable maps. These are easily downloadable from the app itself. This means with a quick download (size varies on state/country) I have all the details do the the city street and many landmarks. Here’s the important part: if I’m in an area of Michigan with no cell coverage I can still view my map because I already downloaded the whole thing! (You MUST leave your settings on “vector", or it will try to download maps for whatever setting you are set at!) This is one of the first apps I install on people’s iPhones for them. It’s great to have a map that does not require data downloads or a signal. I travel to Costa Rica often and it’s a must have app. They recently added vector maps: small detailed scaleable maps. These are easily downloadable from the app itself (they are rolling this feature out, so you may not see every country yet). This means with a quick download (size varies depending on state/country) I have all the details do the the city street and many landmarks. Here’s the important part: if I’m in an area of Michigan with no cell coverage I can still view my map because I already downloaded the whole thing! (You MUST leave your settings on “vector", or it will try to download maps for whatever setting you are set at!) Please do not leave a bad review if does not do something you think it should do, read the description for what it says it does do! I say that because this is one of those apps with a huge number of 5 star review and 1 star reviews but most of those 1 star reviews are because the program is not supposed to do what they are complaining about, the reviewer didn't read the description. They added the vector feature close to a year ago, reviews from before then aren't even accurate any more, the addition of the vector maps TOTALLY changes the way the program works (although all old features still work too). My old maps (created the hard way) still work great, but 99% of the time I’ll be using these new vector maps. Other EXCELLENT features require in app purchase (these features are free in pro version): Downloading other off-line maps (this is great and it why I purchased it in the first place) you can get maps from different sources and build them (on your desktop computer) and put them on the device for later. I downloaded great maps with heights of the hills/mountains for where I hike in Costa Rica, I don’t need to use international data roaming for this since I built them once and they stay on the device. You can also leave bookmarks in the app, incredibly useful for marking places that have no other frame of reference. You can have it record a path/trail for where you have been and view (or export) where you’ve been. When hiking, I think of it as bread crumbs. I miss the old app icon but I’m not going to ding the app any points for that! These folks listen to feedback so write them with suggestions, people complained about the alert notifications and they removed it (but the old reviews are still there). I’ve sent them country suggestions (was there a week or two later), font size suggestions, bug reports and more. They’re constantly updating the maps and they have WAY more maps available then back in early 2014 when they added downloadable maps to the app.

Irshi's Review of Guru Maps
Reviewed on 12/13/18 12:55 PMGalileo Maps is my go-to app when I'm traveling abroad and either have no data plan for the country I'm in, or (if there's a partner carrier--decently common for my plan) when the data is slow. Since they've added Vector maps, preloading a country or state's maps has been a breeze. It's similarly useful if I travel somewhere off-grid, such as trips through wilderness areas or national parks. I did pay to unlock all the features, and one of those was GPS recording--so not only is the app useful when I'm somewhere remote, but when I am remote, I'm probably hiking/trekking, so it's doubly useful in such situations. The app isn't perfect: it either doesn't do directions, or doesn't do them very well, as I haven't noticed any such feature. Finding locations or points of interest via the search isn't as effective as either Apple or Google maps' searches. The GPS recording has significant issues (on my 6S plus) with "jitter" where it'll sudden record a point where I'm a half mile away and the next point will be accurate. This magically adds a mile to distance-traveled that didn't really happen. This doesn't always happen, and in the past, seemed to happen less, but it's frequent enough to ruin distance measurements for many treks. I'm not sure what made it worse recently. Maybe it was upgrading from 5S to 6S? Or maybe a software change..I have no way to know. I suspect it's more of a problem in urban areas where the phone relies both on GPS and wifi for triangulation. My only other complaint is that pre-loading a phone with raster maps (largely unnecessary now, since they have the very easy to acquire vector ones) is a little challenging. You can either do it within the app by simply moving and zooming the app around--it just caches the data. Of using a desktop Java app to make a bundle. Sadly, that desktop app has a horrid UI, which almost seems like a "protest-UI"--determined not to emulate any other map app UI's. In any case, this app is tremendously useful in the right situations. It's kept my phone from becoming an electronic brick when I leave coverage areas. I could certainly imagine wilderness situations where it could be a lifesaving tool, if the user had the foresight to preload their state/country's map.

Reviewed on 12/13/18 12:55 PMIt's fast, the maps look good, and the features are useful and appropriate. There is not a lot of fluff. Downloading maps is fast and convenient. A big feature is having the maps on the phone (so you don't need cell network access). I'd suggest purchasing the "all-in-one" feature pack.
