I refuse to download an app that I am “forced” towards by a website. I am a former Top Writer in the Cruises category and have hundreds of thousands of views. I prefer the website. My email digest comes in and sometimes I like to click and read a few answers. The website has now taken to showing a splash page after a couple of minutes that you *can not close or back out of*!directing you to download the app. I will never download an app that I am coerced towards. Give me the freedom to use the website on my phone!!!!!!!

I just wish it would of came with some instructions that there were different areas for different questions. I only found the app due to a question I had and someone on google.com directed me to ask on here. Let’s just say, I didn’t receive a warm welcoming from the person who answered my question. I was in the process of deleting the app when another person explained some of it to me. But I still have questions about certain things.

I first used Quora about 4 years ago and didn’t find much useful information back then. Occasionally, web search results include a Quora article. I’ve found that most of the “answers” are (1) not addressing the specific question asked, (2) poor written, (3) inaccurate, (4) obsolete, or (5) just plain wrong. So-called and self-appointed “experts” on a topic can’t be relied on to provide useful or reliable answers. I never use Quora to research anything any more.
Stuntastics's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/29/18 12:49 PM
I logged into the website on my phone to read an article and I haven’t downloaded the app yet to my new phone. The website kept prompting me to download this app and I was unable to move forward until I did so. No option to continue later, press X and read the article. No I was forced to get the app. If you’re going to MAKE me download the app, then don’t wast my time by pretending you have a website I can visit, too. Incredible turn off. Take your website down and make it app only snd don’t bs me with your sleazy forceful tactics.
AbhishekSunshine's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/29/18 12:49 PM

I would give this app ZERO star if it was not the platform for knowledge. QUORA moderation needs some change. Anything bad written especially related to left wings and if you even try to praise right wing, your answer will collapse for some or the other reason. Check your moderation algorithm which is just pushing out all different wing people out except LEFT WING (maybe another CNN on its way in the app store). I hope REDDIT can make their app better in terms of format and more appealing for readers as I think reddit can is give quora a good competition.

Theresa5155's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/25/18 12:52 PM
As much as I enjoy Quora I’ve come to despise the app. It ruins my ability to access Quora content via the website or email by blocking website content and misdirecting requests to ‘read more’ from an email. Before I had the app I would get directed to the website from a daily email I would get. Right around the time I’m in the middle of a good answer, a pop up appears on my screen recommending that I download the app. The problem is that there’s no way to close the pop up. You either close the page before finishing the answer or download the app. Useless. Finally I had enough and downloaded the app. Now my emails open the app when I want to ‘read more’ of an answer. Unfortunately the app doesn’t take me directly to the answer I was interested in. It takes me to a feed with different questions. So I give up on the email question that brought me to the app in the first place and start browsing the feed and reading an answer to a new question. Right around the time I’m in the middle of that answer, the screen switches to the answer from the question in the email. Useless. After finishing the email answer, it doesn’t take me back to the question that it interrupted me from, instead it takes me back to my feed and that question is nowhere in sight. Useless.

Every time I receive the Quora email, I start reading from there, but at some point get a pop up that asks me to DOWNLOAD the app.. which I already have.. if you want me to go to the app, just let me continue reading there and don’t throw me off at the home screen, halfway through the reading I was doing on the email app... either way, I’m not turning on notifications for Quora exclusively because I’m taking off notifications on almost everything and really enjoy reading Quora from my email!!

Please give me back web access. I recently was reading my daily Quora digest on my iPad. I selected a “Read More” link from the email and the web site refused to show me any content. It insisted I use the app. I installed it. However the app often does not take me to the posting shown in the email. I end up somewhere else unrelated to the summary in the email. When I switched to my phone, the same link, in the same email, opened the correct content on the web site. If you are going to force an app, make sure it works first!

BeerSnobbery's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/22/18 12:46 PM
I love Quora, but I have complaints, and knowing that developers read these notes, I have what I hope is some food for thought and coding. 1. I am flooded with suggested and assumed content. I am automatically signed up to follow topics and people to such a degree that I spend most of my daily Quora time just muting topics your algorithms assume I may be interested in. At least slow the pace. 2. Some popular topics are flooded with nonsense questions literally meant to flood the topic with nonsense questions. This is an old, outdated troll technique of tangent arguments, and Quora is one of the last homes to it. 3. Trolls love Quora How many ways and times am I going to be asked if people actually walked on the Moon or what is the greatest or worst reason, thing, or whatever for living where I live or doing what I do. You know these are just harassment questions meant to discourage people from participating in their favorite topics, so why do you allow it.
Pndrgn99's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/22/18 12:46 PM
After being on Quora for a number of years, I am closing my account with them and deleting the app. With the new updates I have discovered that when getting questions by email I can no longer open the email and go directly to the app, but must stop open the app separately and log in. Forcing me to take the extra steps, considering the number of questions I respond to, is a ridiculous and unnecessary burden. No doubt it helps them collect some sort of data but as for me I’m out.

This new update is frustrating. It’s completely crashed the app. On top of that, the fact that when I get my email “daily digest,” and click on one of the questions in the email to see more, it switches to the app, freezes and doesn’t load. What’s more, when it does load it doesn’t load the question I was reading. Just my main feed. Pretty frustrating, because I want to be an engaged user and use Quora more, but they make it extremely hard to do so.

App addict 's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/18/18 12:45 PM
First- I am (usually) a huge fan of Quora and would have given it 5 stars in the past. Basically forcing users into the app is frustrating and just...well...annoying. I prefer the website (I’d rather stay in safari- it’s easier when multitasking). If you want to funnel everyone into the app, why not at least develop an app that functions better? Though, I’d still prefer to not be forced to an app. Battery issues, etc As to your website. When the developers of Quora decide to explain to all of us why it is acceptable to randomly change pages while in the midst of reading any writing and/or one of our own, we will be anxiously awaiting with baited breath for the answer? Then somehow the message can never be found again? I followed the same steps and it is as though this person and the question completely disappeared? I honestly don’t care why you are doing it- just stop. Thank you. Best wishes to you and yours.

Adam D’Angelo has outdone himself. Quora is an intellectually engaging social media platform, where hard work and well-researched answers are appreciated. However, contradicting my previous statement, it’s not just a social media platform. It’s a community. People have met, formed friendships, started dating, and even gotten engaged because of this app. My few critiques, though, are that the Quora moderators are way too strict. Many people are being edit-blocked even though they’ve done nothing wrong, because people are reporting them for personal and arbitrary reasons. Also, I’m not a big fan of the “real name policy”. *cough cough Ayden Jozwik/ Damien Christensen* Also, the creepy messages. I only have, like, 400 followers, and I’ve already received a death threat. Anyways, this is a great app. I recommend you get it! Thanks for reading, Cira
66thstmike's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/17/18 12:54 PM
Two very big issues have lead me to delete my account as well as the app itself. First is their arbitrary and seemingly biased enforcement of their, “Be nice,” policy. What my experience has been is when your views favor a conservative or really anything that isn’t fitting with a liberal, politically correct point of view, it will be flagged then deleted. Of course it doesn’t matter that you haven’t sworn or attacked someone personally. It also doesn’t matter what was written that you were responding to. Their attacks are perfectly ok. Whoever it is that’s making these decisions are completely biased. They are the ones who decide if your tone or whatever it is they find offensive is a violation of this ridiculous policy. Secondly the app itself as well as the interface is terrible. It’s not user friendly, confusing and makes looking at or for the very content you were just given a notification for difficult. The concept is great and hopefully another developer creates a better and fairer program that actually allows free speech. I believe it’s because of these issues Quora hasn’t become a big success.

I am perfectly fine reading Quora through my email or my browser. I didn’t get the app because I don’t want another thing in my phone. But since I can’t get the pop-up telling me to get the app to go away, I now have to download the app just so I can read two more paragraphs. Are you really that desperate to get your download stats up, Quora? Jesus. Update: once you get the app, it doesn’t even make you read stories in it. The pop-up is purely a way to make people download the app. Personally, I’d spend my time making an app that was good enough that people would actually want it, rather than just force people to get it and lose the goodwill of your users, but hey, we can all only work to the best of our ability. 🤷♀️

I used to love this app. I always learned something new everyday but things have changed for the worse. It seems the algorithm has changed in a very negative way. Due to this new algorithm, many of the people who I loved as writers are discouraged and writing less. My feed is filled with uninteresting and unhelpful answers that do not help me. Also, when I take the time to write an answer and put in effort and time in it, it barely gets any views or feedback. I hope the developers improve the app.

Though I use Quora infrequently from opting in for an email subscription, your incessant website telling me to download your app has went to an unprecedented level of greed. So today, on November 20, 2018, I, Drake Phillips, hereby solemnly swear to dislike the Quora party as I resume to infrequently browse the stories sent to my email account but now, via the Quora app. Thank you Quora.

However, the fact the site will lock you out if you’re not using the app is a bit much. The problem with using an app is that the user is MUCH more likely to sink copious amounts of time on their site. You’ll be on it much less using it in your phones beowser because it’s not as convenient. Plus like I said, the site bullies you into using the app by locking you out of what you’re reading saying to download their app (no x to get rid of this large pop up!). Say no to all apps you don’t absolutely need or else you’ll be a prisoner to your phone. Get rid of the shackle.

I HAVE the Quora app, and use it on occasion. One hugely annoying trait however: often when I click posts in my Quora emails, they launch the app but don’t go to the post I clicked on. Useless. Secondly, I’m repeatedly given an interstitial when reading Quora on the mobile web (where I can more readily find posts I’m interested in) that blocks me completely unless I download the app — that I’ve already downloaded! Quora — I know you want to force all of us into your app, but how about making a decent product worthy of regular use first?
StuMarkSez's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/16/18 12:49 PM
It is a good thing to honestly review apps that we use, and I applaud the writer of this review for offering this review publicly. However, the attached review of Quora is a good example of a review of any product that is lacking in perspective, for two reasons. 1) The stayed reason for the severe downgraded to one star for being forced to use the app instead of the web site is clearly not something that is happening to any individual. It is not the truth. The Quora system simply is not structured that way. Regardless of one’s individual device choice, if one user were experiencing that, then all users would also be experiencing that. I have not, and I have seen no indication that anyone else is either, regardless of this specific negative review. It is true that the Quora technical managers take every opportunity to promote the direct use of their app software instead of the roundabout browser route. But, there is no forced routing built into the browser usage experience. And, there is a marked difference between being forced to do something and being constantly reminded, which can be a nuisance. 2) Only awarding one star because of a nuisance, on an app that one states is a positive experience, simply shows no reasonable perspective. It would seem more reasonable to mark the entire app down one whole value, or maybe a half (if possible). But downgrading by four stars in a five star range is not a reasonable review. My review of this opinion may seem harsh by modern social media standards because the written word is a difficult venue in which to impart emotion, and social media users have been trained to avoid absolute Truth and anything unsupportive. This is a sad state and should be avoided. Truth is always to be sought after rather than false positives. It lends depth and genuineness to all opinions. Thus, my opinion here is not intended to be a personal attack. There is no childish name calling and nothing directed towards any individual but only towards the issue at hand. This is how to write truthfully without making a personal issue out of a non personal subject. I write with experience and authority because of my professional experience and my job description. I am a manager of information and customer interfaces for a global company. This is the area in which I have some expertise, I know what I talking about. Also, I am not employed by Quora, I am merely a user. Therefore, I enjoy the freedom to write without prejudice.

I absolutely hate how quora forced you to use the Apple App instead of the online app/mobile web page. That is so rude to let the user start reading an article then interrupt them and block them from finishing until they open the mobile app. A person could have a really good reason for using the web browser instead. An that’s not friendly to the America disability Act.

I have always been a mobile phone user, I like to lurk and I receive emails about popular questions. What’s bothering me is lately Quora has been forcing me to download the app to read responses. With the recent issues involving security I don’t want to sign up at all, however if I wish to continue reading I HAVE to download the app and view there. So because of that I’m rating the app 1 Star, because they’ve forced me to download it to view their site.

RyanBukhari's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/13/18 12:41 PM
The best platform nowadays, I spend most of my online time on Quora. The app however is stupid. It spams your feed with ridiculous amount of ads that distract you from reading the actual content of Quora. Zero star for the app, ten stars for the platform.
alarob's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/12/18 12:08 PM
Quora is a great community, OK? That’s despite the increasingly high-pressure monetization of the site’s audience. Quora has also just suffered a data breach. I’ve just come from resetting my password after Quora warned me that my info may have been compromised. You can also get to Quora via a computer web browser, and I promise you the experience will be an improvement over this app. Nevertheless, if you access the site in a mobile browser, Quora has recently taken to hiding the site with an overlay — forcing you to download the app in order to continue. It’s a brute-force move that communicates contempt for users. At least that’s how I felt, having just been directed to the web — not the app — to reset my compromised password. I stayed to read one eye-catching answer, only to be interrupted by this insulting overlay. It had a shining sun and fluffy clouds on it. Now about this app: I use it almost every day, but I often swear at it. For a text-based app, Quora is (still) a huge resource hog. It will drain your battery as fast as many games. Connection failures are frequent. There is nothing you can do about it; just close the app and find something else to do. Fortunately the app is very good about saving your work automatically, in case you are writing an answer. Every now and again I delete the app from my phone for the sake of my mental health. I suppose that’s a good practice with any addictive app.

Quora is a great place to learn from experienced people from all over the world! On just about any subject! It does tend to get hyper-partisan politically, but that goes part and parcel with the sleepy Trump campaign!

Get an email from Quora stating that my personal information may have been stolen, next thing I know my email is being used to register for random events in out of state locations. Download this app at your own risk.
Briarmoss44's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/12/18 12:08 PM
They will send you emails that link you to interesting answers. If you click these links, safari opens to the quora website with the question/answer you clicked on. As you are reading the answer, quora will have a pop up that blocks you from reading the answer, telling you to get their app. This popup has no way to close it and does not take you to the answer you were reading in the app. So you are blocked from reading about answers you want to read by their popup forcing you to get an app you already have. This is classic r/***HoleDesign.

I was forced into downloading and using the latest version of the app. Please don't do this. Some of us are unable to update to the latest OS and making an older version of the app non-functional ( will not even open) forces us to use the web version or worse, buy a new iPad when the old one is still working. Please don't disable older versions when you come up with a newer one.

markbyrn's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/12/18 12:08 PM
While Quora is definitely useful for finding nuggets of information you might not find elsewhere, I've found posting questions to be unsatisfactory due to Quora's small character limit for questions. Even a fairly 'simple' technical question might require elaboration to avoid a pat response. For example, "what is the solution to X problem on my computer?" but due to the character limit, one can't elaborate to say they already tried A, B, and C solutions. As a result, the answers are A, B, and C solutions to which the person has to comment they already tried those solutions. More problematic is complex questions in the realm of humanities that background require detail in the question to even consider an answer. Quora needs to fix this; even Twitter expanded their character limit.

It’s been almost 5 years I’ve been using Quora. In as much as I like to read the questions and answers on this forum, I equally enjoy reading the comments! But for the life of me, it is impossible to close a comment thread and move to the next. I have to open the whole answer again and choose the second most rated comment and follow that thread. It’s annoying. Literally.
William trip's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/12/18 12:08 PM
After their recent security breach, the Quora team asked me to change my password, which I did, and change the associated email address, which I did. Only one small problem. IT WAS THE WRONG ACCOUNT. They had made me change someone else’s account and now my own account is locked from my access. They have no way of servicing costumers’ needs other than a website with cookie-cutter answers which are useless in all but the most specific circumstances. Don’t download, nothing but a headache.

so Quora flagged my profile for not “using my real name” which is kind of dumb in my opinion. Quora also keeps removing my questions because “they aren’t easy to understand” and apparently I have spelling mistakes and bad punctuation... which is also dumb since there’s many other questions out there that’s ACTUALLY have spelling mistakes and no punctuation.

I despise sites that force you to use their app simply because you are on a phone. As a web developer, I KNOW this approach is not only unnecessary, it is flawed. Quora does this. Maybe the app is good, maybe it’s not. The point is, it’s actually unnecessary and irrelevant. Many people will do as I’ve done and eschew using the product rather than be forced to download one more bloody app! Get your act together, Quora. Step into reality.

When I first started using Quora, I came across really informative content on topics like history, politics and culture. Now not only my feed is filled with really frivolous questions regarding relationships and useless facts, the same five questions keep appearing for weeks/months. I've looked high and low how to change these settings but to no avail. And these are the smaller problems. The bigger one is that answers won't load at all. I've updated the app, killed the app, bit nothing works. The partner program is a waste of time, I earned money on a question, moderated it, spent time contributing to the content and months after I asked, they merged it into another question. At this point, I just want to delete it.

I have found that due to the topic of what I usually post, and even though I am very respectful, and supply supporting evidence from science or news journals frequently, I receive frequent messages from Quora telling me I have violated some policy or other. It is very disheartening to face censorship for engaging in respectful yet educational discourse on a subject that evidently Quora prefers to censor. In addition, I am frequently treated with extreme disrespect from other users of Quora, and i have yet to see Quora censoring them for being disrespectful. Quora has become a platform where Big Brother is watching and censoring the views and information it wishes the public not see. So much for free exchange of ideas and information.

Nobody P7's Review of QuoraReviewed on 12/12/18 12:08 PM
Until I was reading a long comment on their website and got a large ad over the screen that I was unable to move or click off of telling me to get the app. So, this means that you would now have to download their app in order to see if you even like it first and finish reading what you were viewing if you are even able to find it again after downloading the app. I’ve had it before but have always became bored with it after a while of not finding anything interesting to read for a while after having the app. It just started taking up space. Again, you can always remove the app if you do not like it. However if you choose to download the app in order to continue to read the comment that you were reading before you had to install the app, it does not take you back to where you were at. Therefore you have to try and find the comment again if your able to. So many people post on these types of websites that it’s not always easy to go back to where you were at. No thanks. I will stick with Reddit. Much better and a lot more interesting too.

Moderation is MESSED UP!!!! Stop relocating my answers over to questions they do NOT EVEN RELATE TO. You should not be able to edit 90% of the text of someone elses post, because someone did not like what i had to say, they simply edited it to fallacy. Stop siding with emotional b*tches, facts are king, as i have told your moderation many times, its far nicer to tell someone the truth than mislead and otherwise lie to them. Again, i stand begind every answer i have ever written, i would not change a single word, the answers i provided where direct and factual, if they hurt your feelings, im sorry you did not actually want to hear the answer to your question, but the truth hurts. I do not care about your feeling and i refuse to walk on eggshels for anybody. You asked, stop being afraid of the truth, stop editing things into fallacy. Really if your going to decontextualize and reword "my" posts so much...make sure you take my name off them, those are not my words. Today i cant even get into quora at all, not the desktop, not app, not from mobile browser, cant sign in, and it wont send me a password reset keeps saying it did though im sure my email has no reset and im putting in the correct password anyway. Seems silly you have a privacy breech then turn around and ask me to store more of my info to be stolen, seems like you should focus on anonymity. My account is set up through an alies google so it doesnt overly affect me, but its still a stupid call.

Last, people see what he is writing. It’s embarrassing. Also, it’s due to me commenting in his post. Saying he was incorrect. Clinically, 100% incorrect on a serious topics. He proceeds to comment with following: writing I am insane. Next comment, advising me I was incorrect and last accusing me of if me if of accusing me of behaving in the manner he has since this stated. It’s quite upsetting

I really like this app. It’s a nice layout and entertaining for hours. It would be even better if the developers could devise a way for users to organize their “bookmarks.” They are currently arranged in a linear layout, most recent first. It takes a lot of scrolling to get to an older bookmark one may want to reference at a later date.

I’ve read Quora (several knowledge categories that interest me) for almost three years. One thing bothers me: there seems to be no device for users to register their individual disapproval. If large numbers of users register their disapproval with a particular Question (vague, idiotic, silly, etc) then such word garbage could be eliminated from the paths of Quora and serious users could enjoy a better experience. Why would such a tweak not be a good thing? Quora could no doubt surface an algorithm that would spotlight the garbage and then collect and dispose it.
Mylie0117's Review of QuoraReviewed on 1/10/19 12:55 PM
Removing the ability to add details in the questions was a bad move. There are many questions that simply need more context in order to be answered and taking away that feature sometimes leads to people not getting the answers they really need. Sure you can make a comment or add sources but it’s honestly less convenient than simply having details right under the question

The app is great and works great for me. However, when I click an email from Quora to read more, it opens in safari and my feed proceeds there. Lately, not long after I start reading, I get a permanent message window, blocking the rest of the answer, telling me to download the app and preventing me from seeing the rest of the comments I am trying to read. There is no way to clear out of it. When I click to go to the app, it goes to the App Store first. By the time I get to the app, it is not on that question anymore and I don’t get to finish reading what I had started. I need to figure out how to have the email open in the app or there needs to be a way to click out of it or if I click to go to the app, it should continue where I was so I can finish the question I was reading. I couldn’t find a way in the app to leave feedback about this so I left a review here instead.
