Reviewed on 8/28/19 2:08 PMJan 2019 They fixed the syncing bug, now works great. Love the new vertical lines and side by side viewing. ——- Sept 2018 update: had to downgrade a star because of a clound sync bug they are not fixing. Everytime I switch to or open the app, each open document throws an error while trying to sync/backup online. —— I’ve purchased or downloaded virtually all the note taking apps for the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil use. From OneNote, to Penultimate, Noteshelf 2, Notes Plus, etc., I have 18 different apps on my iPad in my search to find one that has everything that I need. In short, Zoom Notes wins hands down. The must-haves for me: — the “paper” must not move when writing and drawing, both when flat on a surface, and when the iPad is in a stand — the writing must be smooth, no lag, no skips, and no errors — there must be a good set of tools configuring color, etc. You’d be surprised how many simply cannot keep the paper still when a palm is resting on the screen, or if one finger inadvertently touches the surface. And getting low lag and responsiveness can be a challenge. (For comparison, Notes Plus and Noteshelf 2 are close, but not perfect.) To summarize, this app has everything. I mean *everything*. I have never seen so many useful features or configurability. Simply amazing. And the most important two: drawing responsiveness is the best of all, it has VERY low lag; and you must use two fingers (though you can switch to one finger if you want) to move the page, in effect keeping the paper still while drawing and taking notes. It’s been a long while since I’ve loved an app so much. $8 is just an incredible bargain for this product. Well done to the author.

Reviewed on 8/28/19 2:08 PMSo for the life of me I can’t figure out how to make this sync across devices, still waiting on response from support regarding this feature. Just got the iPad Pro, and desperately want to stop keeping a million notebooks for my life, so tested basically every handwriting app out there. I will be using this and Microsoft’s Notes for more “professional” use. Cons: Aesthetic is a tad archaic, but functionality is there. (Think Paint.net vs Photoshop). If this had the ability to convert handwriting to text / searchable handwriting it’d be 5 Stars all day and just completely blow the competitors out of the water. Also wish there was a better filing configuration. Pros: Even with Lite version you get a lot of functionality. I love when app developers let you really try their product in the Lite version, for this reason I purchased. The amount of options you have as far as pen type / colors are incredible. I love the ability to overdraw in the margins of a PDF and literally unlimited space. The side by side page idea is genius. I have a daily gratitude journal that I was able to take a photo of and scan in, now I don’t have to worry about losing my inner most thoughts to some stranger or nosey coworkers. Love you can lock pages by password or the entire app. Cloud storage and easy upload to basically any app/storage system you’d like. Love the voice recording option as well. Overall seems like this app has made continual progress since it was created and excited to see them become the #1 app for handwriting especially since the rollout of new Apple Pencil. Someone needs to back them for some advertising!! I would invest now LOL

I have a proximately 10 writing a note taking apps that I've purchased in the iTunes Store. This app replaced all of them. The learning curve is a bit steep at first, but only because of the amount of different tools and customization options. Most people will be able to quickly use it "out of the box". Some people will download the user manual from the developer website, drill down in to the details, and find out you can use this app for almost anything note and document related. The handwriting rendering in this app is SMOOTH. No lag. It looks and feels like writing on paper. I think the only way they can improve in this area is to provide more writing tools (it already comes with quite a few highly customizable writing utensils). In fact, the weak link is the Apple Pencil and its ridiculous hard plastic tip! Import docs, create your own templates, export and upload to iCloud, Dropbox, or share via other means. Reviewed on 12/16/18 1:21 PMThe infinite whiteboard ability and ability to inject other ZoomNotes files themselves, is quite nicely done. The developers have definitely put a lot of thought into creating a nice note taking app that’s very powerful. There’s tons of customizability such as custom system color palettes. One big issue, however, is the two-finger pinch zoom. It doesn’t register often, and it’s extremely frustrating to try to quickly zoom around your document. It seems to get better if I pause and wait 1-2 seconds between every pinch; but sometimes not even the first pinch is picked up at all. For an app called “ZoomNotes”, I would think that the 2-finger pinch would be the key feature that needs to be buttery smooth! (Just like inking in Notability is their best feature). Btw, for those who wonder how Inking is here, it is pretty good, on par with most note taking apps, but loses to Notability. Notability’s inking takes pressure sensitivity into account *while* you are inking - try writing the word “except” very quickly in cursive - all note taking apps render the little lines that connect the ‘x’ bottom right to upper right (as you graze the paper with your pen gently lifted) as a full line (including ZoomNotes). Notability, however, renders that little connecting line as a lighter line. Now that IPads are more and more powerful, I think the devs can afford using more CPU time on breaking down the inking steps into smaller granularity so that they can render intra-stroke lines with differing lift-off distances to correlate to ink thickness. Thanks

This is (again) my go-to app among them all. I use it almost entirely now in place of pen + paper. I have yet to exhaust its features. My favorite use is to project whiteboard-like notes using ZoomNotes and an AirPlay app. Pros: Feature rich beyond any other. Among the best in its smooth ink feel. Wrist guard and tool box can be set to handle from left or right side. The main tools are laid out with forethought to common use. Cons: The UI settings can be a bit muddled, exhaustive, or comical looking. For the first two issues, thank goodness for workspaces. You can remove all tools but those that you really want. Neutral: The icons for the tools are … interestingly unique (to each his own here … they remain my least favorite things about this app). Summary: For me, this app is like a funky looking car that I hate to drop because it works so well. Almost since it’s inception, I have wished the UI would undergo a major overhaul. I wish the document handling would be streamlined thoroughly to be sparsely professional. Otherwise, to replace the pen+paper note-taking and sketching work that I need to do routinely, this is absolutely the only iPad app of its class that I will use.

Reviewed on 11/18/18 7:37 PMThis is the most versatile note taking app I have found. I use it for all my note taking. I really like the ability to insert handwritten notes with pdf files, including adding pages etc. It takes a bit to get used to all the features but it is well worth the effort. The ease of zooming in and out and writing in the margins of PDF files is also very handy. Still very happy with it. I love the infinite whiteboard option. It really feels like having a large whiteboard where you can write anywhere. It’s also great for annotating a pdf file when you need to write more than just minor comments. This continuous to be my favorite note taking app. One of the features of traditional writing and note taking is that you can spread out multiple sheets of paper in front of you. This allows you to keep a good overview of what you are working on. I really missed this aspect of physical notes when I switched to my iPad. However, the whiteboard mode with infinite zoom of ZoomNotes allows me to effectively have a virtual desk with many sheets of handwritten notes. (Tip: lay out a grid of letter size boundaries on your whiteboard before starting to take notes. You can easily fit 25 pages that way. Well, of course you could do millions but you want to mimic a physical desk.)

I love the virtually unlimited canvas feature! I also find it easy to organize pages in various ways, including as sub-pages to other pages. The learning curve is a bit steeper than other notes apps, but the manual is quite good and it is well worth it to spend some time reading it before using the app.

I can flip through the study cards, and trace over the characters I need to practice. It doesn't get any better than that!

Reviewed on 11/18/18 7:37 PMI have paid a lot of money downloading many note apps but I kept feeling unsatisfied. If I put all of the paid and free apps that I downloaded together in one app, they all will not have all the features this one app has. THAT IS INSANE!!! Before my iPad I had the surface pro 3, and before that I had the galaxy note 12.2 tablet. ALL OF THE NOTE TAKING APPS FROM ANDROID, MICROSOFT, AND IOS WILL NOT GIVE YOU ALL OF THE OPTIONS THAT THIS APP GIVES. THAT IS FREAKING INSANE!!! I am a real consumer and I am in college for Electrical Engineering. When I take notes I have to draw many mathematical pictures. Nothing comes close to the ease of making my graphs and precise circuit pictures like using this app. I really wish that I found this first. Here are a few of my favorite features... Emojis. Adding pictures fast from a pdf book or a camera. FAST! Erasing with my finger while writing with the pen. Custom papers and templets. Many Rulers. Easy to use. Easy to organize. Calendar. Sound recorder. Takes my handwriting well. Doesn’t destroy it. I can make it an infinite paper or any other size. Able to open in multitask window. And many more that I forgot to list. These are the options that I liked. You cane remove some of them if you don’t like them. There are many more. There is almost every single option that other note taking apps have in here. DID I MENTION THAT THE AMOUNT OF OPTIONS IN THIS APP ARE INSANE!!! I accidentally paid twice for this app but I’m not even mad about that. I paid extra for all the features in the Lite app and then I bought this one but I don’t even care. These developers deserve every single penny. Thank you so much for making this app the perfect app for me and many others. You guys deserve to be on the top of the chart. I am going to write the same review on your lite app. Edit: I have not found the app to be buggy but some other reviewers have. There are times when some options act like a bug but aren’t really bugs. For example, when I use the Apple Pencil to try and resize a picture from the corner, the app zooms the picture all the way in. That is because after a second of holding my pencil it zooms in. So it’s not a bug it’s just that the zoom in option is too sensitive because it only waits one second. I haven’t looked deep enough in the options to see if I can turn this off or on but it doesn’t bother me that much. I got used to resizing the picture without holding the pencil in one place longer than a second. That was just one example of how It looked buggy to me but then I realized it’s just an extra option that is part of this app. There were other options that I had to get used to like this one. You can turn off most of these options if they get in the way. This app is still by far the best note taking app In all android, iOS, and Microsoft apps. My favorite app before this one was squid for android and I was regretting buying iOS before I found this app. Thank you!

Pedeclaudo's Review of Zoomnotes
Reviewed on 11/18/18 7:37 PMI’ve bought and tried out every single popular note-taking app on the market to date, and nothing else even comes close to ZoomNotes. I’m absolutely baffled why prosaic apps like GoodNotes and Notability get all the good press. I suppose most people would rather be crippled by simplicity than potentially overwhelmed by options. People like that are probably happier with separate simple apps for note taking, diagraming, PDF annotation, etc. For those of use who’d rather be able to everything we need in a single app, ZoomNotes is everything we could ask for and then some. As a note-taking app, ZoomNotes provides unrivaled flexibility. For starters, it recognizes more styluses than any three other note-taking apps put together. Prior to upgrading to an Apple Pencil, I used an Adonit Pixel with the app, and it integrated as well as possible. In fact, ZoomNotes provided more options for the Pixel’s two shortcut buttons than any other similar app. Even now that I have an Apple Pencil with no shortcut buttons, between ZoomNotes’ two- or three-finger double taps to undo and redo, and the option of using a single finger to erase or perform other tasks, I don’t even miss the buttons. When it comes to customizing your tools and your workspace, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. For instance, you can set up pens to maintain a relative line thickness that adapts to however far you zoom in or out, or you can draw lines that taper or have arrows at the beginning, middle, and/or end. You get layers too—actual, Photoshop style layers! That means you can import an image on one layer, lock the layer, and then take notes on a second layer so you can erase your ink without touching the image. I just used this to repeatedly label about 200 muscles in preparation for a major anatomy exam, and it’s undoubtedly the tool that helped me act that test the most. Even if you don’t need all of that fancy stuff, ZoomNotes outperforms every other note-taking app I’ve used. Personally, I can’t stand writing with ink that doesn’t taper naturally, and there’s a fine line between no smoothing at all and overdoing it. This app gets it right across the board. When I think about it, out of all the handwriting apps I’ve used, only Notes Plus comes close to the writing experience ZoomNotes offers. ZoomNotes covers all of the basics: you get a nice selection of stationary (rules, squares, graphing squares, etc), an easy-to-navigate workspace, and a magnification view for those of us with larger handwriting. One thing I love about ZoomNotes is that the basic sheet templates are all vector based, allowing you to create your own custom templates, right inside the app. Just choose the layout type, set the line height or other dimensions/divisions, and pick the color and weight of that lines. What’s more, you can easily adjust the line height settings in the magnification mode, ensuring that the line you write on will remain at a consistent height when the window wraps to a new line. And one feature I absolutely love is that you can set the width of the text wrap in the magnification view to the visible width of the main view, which makes ti super easy to write in constrained boxes when diagraming. Speaking of diagraming…. I’ve been a professional marketing copywriter and designer for about a decade, and now I’m also back in school for dietetics. Suffice it to say that I take tons of handwritten notes, often resulting in sprawling diagrams that let me keep all of my non-linear thoughts in order. ZoomNotes accommodates my workflow in many ways, not the least of which is its whiteboard mode, which provides an infinitely expandable work area. That’s perfect for creating boundless diagrams. Another one of ZoomNotes’ unique features takes this one step farther: sub-pages. Sub-pages are full pages that live as thumbnails on a parent page. They allow me to organizes a large set of information (e.g., a set of labeled diagrams covering the muscles of the arm), and then graphically connect it to additional sub-pages the way I would small boxes in a conventional diagram. It’s an organization freak’s dream come true! There’s so much to this app I could rave about, but these are some of the biggest ones for me. Just to quickly address the main complaint people have had about the the user interface. When you first open the app, ZoomNotes’ tools and layout may appear a bit clunky to you. I know I was put off by it. Fortunately, there’s an entire section of the settings devoted to customizing the layout. In my case, simply shrinking down the icon size and changing the color scheme from blue and white to black and white made all the difference. Also, I should note that I’m a leftie, and I particularly appreciate the ways ZoomNotes accommodates us. It’s like they thought of everything. No app is perfect, and even I have a wishlist for ZoomNotes. Here it is: 1. I’d like to be able to set only vertical (and maybe also only horizontal) whiteboard mode, so I wouldn’t have to break longer class notes into separate pages. 2. I’d like to be able to set indent increments in the magnification window. I tend to take hierarchical notes, and being able to set indent depth would be a real plus. 3. About the only thing missing from this app is handwriting recognition. I know it’s low on the agenda, and there’s an amazing app called Nebo for that, but it would be great to have it all in one place. Considering those are my only issues with the app, I can safely say this app has transformed my iPad into the best study and productivity tool a guy could ask for. If you’re on the fence about which note-taking app to get, spare yourself a lot of time and wasted money and buyer’s remorse, and just get ZoomNotes.

Reviewed on 11/18/18 7:37 PMI've been using Zoom notes for over 3 years now and I've tried just about every full featured note app in the store. Zoom-notes is by far the better app in this category. Unlike many of the note apps, you can have a different style page or paper for every page in your note books. For me, this was essential for taking notes in a lab environment where data comes in all shapes and styles. Making data gathering templates and saving them as "Paper" is a huge time saver and ensures your note always have a consistent look. Importing PDF, google docs and photos into one neat and organized note book is where the power of this app shines. Import multiple photos at one time, no more hitting import, select photo, paste and repeat. You can even import photos from the camera right on your current page within the app. Being able to edit pen styles, text styles and line and shape styles is a real time saver, especially since you can save these options in groups for later recall. Did you delete something by accident? No problem, files are deleted into a recycle bin first. While hand writing a note, if you make a mistake, just scribble it out and it goes away, no need to hit undo or select and delete, but you can if that's what you're comfortable with. Update: Since the Apple Pencil came out, writing notes is now a real blessing. You can place your entire wrist on the screen and there are no errant marks to be found. No real need to use the Zoom writing tool, just zoom the page up a bit and start writing. Update 12-02-16 The new documents tab has just doubled my productivity by letting me keep the most relevant documents open all at the same time and they can all be from different folders. This is one of the best features yet, high 5 to who ever suggested this feature be added. ZN is still by far the most versatile notes app available and the only one I use on a daily basis for work and home. Update 6/27/17 After finding a couple of minor bugs I contacted tech support and we worked through the bugs in real time via email and found work arounds that got me going until they could fix the problems in a new update. Their tech support team are top-notch!

ZoomNotes is feature rich and worth the small amount of effort it takes to explore and learn how everything works. I’ve downloaded nearly every major note taking app in the AppStore and think this one is the best! This app does more than mimic writing on paper. It actually allows you to use all of the benefits of a tablet (zooming, scaling, rearranging notes and imported objects, shape recognition, sub-notes, image and video import, etc.) to create a truly unique writing/researching experience. Being able to import an entire PDF as a sub-note is amazing! This app is a joy to use, highly customizable, and allows me to research and take notes in a way that matches the way I think. If I had it in grad school, I’m pretty sure my thesis would have taken half as long! Big thanks to the developer(s)!!! Keep up the great work!!! Maybe you could add handwriting to text conversion? And the most important two: drawing responsiveness is the best of all, it has VERY low lag; and you must use t********** (though you can switch to one finger if you want) to move the page, in effect keeping the paper still while drawing and taking notes. It’s been a long while since I’ve loved an app so much. $8 is just an incredible bargain for this product. Well done to the author.

Before trying, I read a review that suggested to buy the full version because it was worth it. After reading through the documentation, I realized that even if it was buggy I would want to show my support to these developers because of the direction it seemed to be going in. So, I didn't bother with the free version, and have since had the pro version - sooo worth it. Notability has it beat in raw power, but this has many many more options for doing anything you want - can even insert video into your notes, and create animations. Infinite whiteboard is incredible - zooming is fast, and can quickly create detailed layered biochem pathways and link to relevant medications from a different page. Best app for this type of studying/notetaking. The app also feels very lightweight (does not eat up memory or lag). There are some bugs still, especially with the desktop companion version, but everything is compatable. 5 solid stars for a great product at a totally fair price.
