Strip Designer App Reviews

For ease of use and functionality this app is the best in its class. The others I tried were clunky and difficult to use but I prefer landscape mode and the 'draw on' capability of the pics. In future updates I would like to see a 'frames' section added where we can choose nice borders like the old Picture-It by Microsoft on a pc. Love being able to use an Apple pencil as well. A bit more on the draw options would be nice but being able to use the Camera Roll to upload provides workarounds. App remains well supported and not restricted to 'square' like some others that do frames but do not have landscape mode. Very necessary for photo art or incorporating originals.

This is an amazing app. You can do so much to create and edit and export your comic strip or book. Very pleased with it. Well worth the $2.99.

I have used at least 5 different comic or story boarding apps and this is by far the best. It has the most features and versatility of any other similar app. I especially like the ability to import from the clipboard (from Art Studio and iDraw in particular) to save the added step of saving to then importing from Photos. The drawing brushes are very nice-- can create nice looking panels or backgrounds from within the app. The special effects for text are very customizable. The best feature, though, is the ability to create an unlimited number of my own stickers. I draw my characters in Art Studio or iDraw, make them as stickers that can be reused ( also make props in to stickers) and paste and rescale on to backgrounds made within Strip Designer. The app is very stable; I've used for several years without any problems. This is the only comic app you will need.

I've had this app for years now. The developer(s) has always supported this app with continuous updates, which I greatly appreciate. Very easy to use and everyone always asks how I add the thought bubbles, etc to my pics. Definitely recommend this app!

This has been great for years & continues to be great. Intuitive. It is even great for watermarking or captioning. Quick. Empowered. Easy. Yay.

I paid money for this app and now can't open it. I have a ton of projects that I now can't access. When will it be fixed???

This app has been nothing but par excellence since it came out Dec 2012. Developers keep giving good updates. I've used several other apps similar to this one but all pale in comparison. Life Cards is another app I recommend by these developers (Vivid Apps).

I use this app for a lot or different design projects, and it simply does a better job than Pages, plus you can easily install fonts without needing a 3rd party app. I often layout text and frames in it for easy clipboard export (with transparency!) to other apps such as Procreate. The developer has been very responsive to requests. So here's a new one! Could we please have the ability to also slide the linespace into negative values for instances where I need to tighten the leading? Custom fonts often have too much linespace by default, and my only option in some cases is to manually create each line and tighten the leading by eye. Thanks again for such a great app!

I love this app. It has powerfully enabled me to do anything I wanted to and more as a comic strip designer. TONS of features. You are getting a steal for the balance of design power and ease of use for beginners. The interface is not designed by conceited app designers who think just because they can click something during testing, anyone else can on a real device. This app is beautifully maintained and the extra features offered lately are marvelous and mind-bending. Thank you so much.

I have used this app for several years and as a professional artist, I really think it does a lot. The stickers are great for comics and collaging images. I left a negative review on the last update because the app stopped working. A few days later I was contacted by the app developer and he worked with me to get an update that worked. That level if dedication is rare!!! 😊

I am using this app to write Graphic Novels - not Comics. I have already created 5 books - each 250 pages long. I am half-way thru my 6th. This is way beyond a Comic Strip Designer. It is a Full-Service Desktop publishing app. The PDF outputs are flawless and via Dropbox I can create a book and then send it off to my Publisher effortlessly. It imports Fonts from many sources. But the best feature of the app is the way it allows you to create your own stickers. I have created over 2,500 of them. Here is my wish list for future updates: Automatic Pagination so that when I add a page between pages already created it will repaginate. A way to organize all my stickers - like a Holding Box for Stickers that I use often - having to search my 2,500 stickers is time consuming. Snap-To lines that I can move at will so as to line my separate elements up on a page. More Special Effects Type choices. 2nd best thing: Jens - the creator of the App - answers my questions within hours - and often - minutes. My biggest fear is that Jens will get bored and move on to something else and down the line the app quits working in IOS 25 or so. I have plans for several more books and I want this App to hang around. If I could, I would give the app 10 stars, a Blue-Ribbon and the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Have had this app for at least 4 years and use it quite frequently to create comic like images, so Fun!!

I am in love with this app! There are so many options for the number of photos, types of font, and extra add-ons. I want to turn everything into a comic!! I would like to see an easy way to turn my comic book into an actual book straight from the app.

You can use these to make magazines, comics, books, or pretty much everything!! SO worth it, give it a shot!! One of my favorite apps EVER.

Strip Designer is a powerful design/composition tool for comics and more. The developer keeps improving it, version after version, and is super-responsive. Highly recommended app.

I always enjoy this app. but with this update is taking more than 6 hours and still not working (for me only ?) totally useless !!!

This last update has no changes; it says: "now text can have effect" .. Well.. It already had it, I see no changes at all.. I thought there was an option on here to flip pages! The only to go from page to page is by tapping the page button and tapping on each page individually! This upsets me.

I got another app (comic strip, I believe) that has a ton of great reviews but it absolutely sucks—crashes, you can’t “go back” because it just cycles you through the menu. this one is great—it is easy to use and has tons of layers so you can do a lot of stuff on it similar to powerpoint. I don’t think it has a “photo to cartoon” filter though—would be nice but overall, 5 stars!

Very well done app. Developers keep enriching it. I have had it since it first came out and I use it all the time. They continue to add features that make it more versatile without over complicating. This one is the best comic page maker for sure.

Best at what it does

I have had this for over five years and it works. I make pictures, cards, comic responses, a small comic strip. Buy, you will love it

I have used this app for a long time now. I’ve used it to create a lot of projects, big and small. The thing is that now I have so many projects in the app. Is there a chance for making folders to sort and organize projects?

The layouts are perfect for my comics!

Not sure about someone mentioning saving but mine save as I go. There appears to be a syncing problem between devices which used to work but appears to have quit as the last 3 pics I did have not synced to my iPad. Would to see improved drawing support.

Oh man! I couldn't remember the name and have been searching for it since removing it last time! Finally Google searched "app similar to comic strip" and found it! There is no other app in existence which can do what this app does! Ps. Get a better name? ------------------- I don't use it enough to keep on my phone all the time but I find myself always coming back to it eventually. Of the many I have tried this one has the ability to produce the best final creations. Be patient and use your creativity.

Updated comment 03/01/2019 Well, as a comic artist I need to be honest and say that now with the 2018 iPad Pro you have comic creation tools available that would be great assets in your workflow like Comic Draw and Clip Studio, designed for comic book creation. Amazing apps and they do the job good. However I always ended up using Strip Designer and this is why. As Procreate is hands down the best sketch and paint app in the App Store Strip Designer is the best app for comic creation! Hands down! I really don’t understand why the developers keep marketing this app as a picture and speech bubbles app when it do more than they think! 1. Import fonts 2. Import .png for efx 3. Create your own efx stickers 4. Save in PSD and PDF 5. You can backup their native file 6. Custom page sizes 7. Panel editor 8. Filters and more! Need more? —— I don't know why most developers create apps for entertainment only and not for creation or creative professional artists. There are just a few of developers that think outside the box and build a tool for real pros like MUSIC STUDIO for serious musicians or BLOGSY for real bloggers to name some of them. As an artist and cartoonist living in a digital era and digital entertainment world this is a tool that if its combined with SKETCHBOOK PRO or PROCREATE you will be complete to be able to create your first digital comic as a professional then you will be able to export it on any format you need and send it to your publisher without thinking twice. You can buy fonts if you want to go more secure at the time of selling your work and you can manipulate everything on your final comic even saving your work to the iCloud is included and easy to use. What can be done with this app is amazing! And the developer keeps coming up with things I didn't think possible. Get it! You'll love it and get hooked as I have!

I'm amending my review and upgrading my rating to 5 stars with the latest update! Thank you to the developers! This is a truly great app! Appears to be a problem with this latest update. I select the text and select the color but It remains whatever the default color is.

I have been using this program for almost 2 years. I just love it. I have a lot of photo apps but always return to this one.

I cannot say enough good things about this application. I love the fact that it seeing frequent updates as well as has the best functionality amongst it's peers.

Cannot add map to the picture

I am very disappointed to report that not only has the app completely stopped working since the update, but after the update I noticed that the hundreds of files I have created over the past five years or more where erased, and I have not been able to get it back. This used to be one of my favorite apps, but I am not sure I will ever feel the same after losing all of that work.

I've made lots of comic strips with this app. I use it a few times a week for other graphic/layout needs. It is really the most straightforward way to piece together elements from lots of apps. I guess you would call it collage making. Very powerful features when needed, very easy to use otherwise.

Tried this app out several versions ago. Many tools and improvements added since 2015. You import images or draw your own. Variety of layouts/customizable, add balloons, resize frame, text or images within the frames. Use it to map/sketch out a story idea or sequences. Plan on playing with it to appreciate its capabilities. Can even print or re-use something you saved.

I love this app! It is very simple in design and easy to use. PROS: - You can draw or upload a photo to use in your strip. - You can use thought/speech bubbles or graphic text. - You can create your own stamps. - You can edit each individual photo using preset filters or adjust them manually. - You can use their templates or create one of your own. - You can zoom in so you can add detail to your drawings. CONS: - No option to add more/merge layers. I like working on one thing at a time and them merging them when I'm done. Would like to see this option added.

I had a 5 star review for this, but I lowered it because of one thing. I had a couple pages all laid out with how I wanted the panels. I just had to finish up the images for each panel. I left the app and went back in to make sure it was saved, and it definitely was. Now, after some time, I check the pages and they were all reset! I had to do the panels all over again! If there is a way to implement a PROPER save system, please do it. I'm sick of having to redo things.

Like the addition of the 3D text. However you need to be able to mirror the text. When you switch the focal point from right to left the text is backwards. Ever since last upgrade crashes when adding new stickers

For me and my brother this is pretty much a fanfic creator we see a movie or game that we like make a comic of it than show it to mom any ways I love it

Developers thought of almost everything. The program takes a bit of time to figure out how to make certain changes, but if you poke around for a few minutes you can figure out how to do almost anything. I tried a few PC demos and websites. and this app was far more extensive.

Astoundingly good app. Well thought out and top in class in almost every way but one — and that is terrible thought balloons, a critical graphic device for comics. Really, they're worse than PowerPoint, and that's bad. 4 stars, with the 5th to come when they open a comic book and see what they should really look like.

I’ve had this app since it’s first release and to this day it still works. The features are very in depth and very handy once you know how maneuver through app. This app pretty much gives you free range to use personal and custom fonts, pictures, and anything else that can be imported to use in your creation. The defaults stickers, fonts, and other items are pretty good to use as well. My only request is that I wish there was a desktop version with Cloud Sync for that’s how good this app is in my personal opinion. I’m still using my iPad 3 64GB with the latest update and still runs smooth. Again I recommend watching the tutorial videos on Youtube if your new to the app, have patience and explore your creativity like I did. Hope this helps :)

Last couple of times I've opened this app it's practically been inoperable. It used to work like a charm but lately it's terribly laggy to the point it's practically unusable. Please fix for more stars UPDATE: it’s only gotten worse. It now barely functions and force closes whenever I try and open a project. I’m running an iPhone 7 Plus so it’s not like I have a terribly old phone. Wish this worked better because in the beginning it was awesome. Now not so much.

This app is by far the best comic book creator in the app store and its completely free! You're able in import fonts--and it even links directly to font foundries for you. It supports layers, levels and even masking...all professional features that are hard to do without. Even the masks are easily made into stamps! Beginner designers may not know what this means, but to a seasoned professional it's the difference between other apps being a toy and this app being a tool.
