There’s no way to tell how long each article is thus I can’t decide immediately which article/s I want to consume. Overall I can’t tell where I am in relation to the entire magazine because there’s no easy overview on each screen which there should be. The navigation is so linear, is there a way to tap and choose a desired article from the chapter screen?? Also, the circles and squares around titles for chapters and subchapters makes no sense in May 2019 issue. It took me a while to realize what the shapes meant.

Reviewed on 8/28/19 1:40 PMProblems with app: - It insists on being in portrait mode. This turns out to be one of the buggiest parts of iOS. The bug that affected screen rotation appears to have been fixed, but this app triggered it constantly. And when using this app recently using screen zoom, my iPad locked up when the iPad rotated, and the app prevented the screen from following. There’s still a bug, and this app is the best way to find it. - The app won’t let you pinch to zoom, nor can you select a different font. If you can’t read their selection, well, tough noogies, I guess. - The app insists on leaving 25% of the screen as white space. You can’t expand text into it, it’s just wasted. They are forcing their aesthetics over usability, and that’s just silly. - Ads, though. Ads are allowed to use as much of the screen as they like. 🙄 So, obviously, if you’re not their target demographic, then they don’t care about whether or not you can easily read their content.

This is the first I’ve seen this design and I LOVE IT! There are many digital magazines and apps therefore, on the App Store. This is the first one I’ve enjoyed using. There are a ton of bad reviews for this app. I’m new to it. Maybe Wired introduced this style more recently than the negative reviews. Many of the reviews complain about not having a landscape mode. You can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need (paraphrasing the RS). The current version is a good app with a great design.

Reviewed on 4/3/18 5:20 PMI have a subscription to Wired and received an email to get the digital copy of the magazine with this app - but once I downloaded it and started the onboarding process, I realized this app is poorly designed and I would prefer not to attempt to read a magazine on it. The onboarding steps have you enter in your subscriber ID and Zip Code - fine, although that could have been populated straight from the email explaining me how to set up the app. After that, I had to enter an email and password, and I got an error that I already have an account (I don’t). So, my only choice was to reset my password. Once I chose that step, I got a password reset email which I used to change my password, and upon re-entering the app discovered there is no back button from the password reset page. At that point, I hadn’t even set up my account and I had reached a point where I have to force quit the application to continue signing up. After that force restart, I had to type in my account number AGAIN from the email, and I just deleted the app. If onboarding is that poor, I can see why this app is rated so poorly. It’s a shame because I really enjoy Wired itself, and a magazine app should be a simple thing to design with a small investment. The fact it’s this bad shows they don’t really care about digital.

Reviewed on 2/6/18 2:12 AMI’m not giving this app one star because it does work. The problem is that it seem to think it’s print media. On an electronic device, you need to adapt to the device. Others mention no landscape, but that doesn’t bother me. No, what bothers me is there is no way to zoom, no way to copy and paste, no way to do anything other than view images: sometimes showing pictures, usually just full page images of text. And for some reason, the first page's text is significantly bigger than the other pages. This means, for me, the text on the first page is somewhat bigger than it needs to be, while the text on the following pages is significantly smaller than I find comfortable. The best handling is kindle, where you can increase font size; PDF is worse but you can at least zoom in. Well, with this app you can neither increase font size, nor zoom in. Sadly ironic for a magazine that is all about technology!

As a paying customer who is entitled to receive a digital subsciption, it's really awful that I can't access it just because I don't currently own an iPad (I haven't been able to replace my broken one for a long time). And for those who do have an iPad, they may not want to carry it everywhere just to access their magazines. I also agree with others who have said the apps have many bugs and problems. In fact, the apps haven't changed all that much since I owned an iPad 1 -- do you hear that?! A FIRST EDITION iPAD!! You guys probably need to start from scratch and develop entirely new apps for each of your magazines, or perhaps even develop a single app where we can access all of our Conde Nast subscriptions. I'd especially love to read all of my magazines on the go, but Wired and Allure need to be taken care of first. Please don't disappoint your longtime customers.
