Reviewed on 9/30/18 5:20 PMWhy do you keep making this app harder and harder to use? Surely you must understand that many people use this app in their cars. The latest version of this app is even LESS usable in a car than previous versions The problem is that you have HUGE picture icons for the brand/show you are listening to..but the type for the specific episode is tiny. So if I am quickly glancing down at my app, I can confirm the show I want but I cannot easily see if I am on the EPISODE that I want. Further, too much tapping just to get to the shows I want. Please fix this. This are making this app unusable. —————- Here is the review i submitted a a year or two ago: Been using Stitcher for about a year. Really like the content and ability to listen to what I want, when I want. The app used to be easy to use. The most recent app is illogically organized and WAY more difficult to use in the car. Otherwise, if you’re using maps or get a phone call, the app stops working and you must restart it. (Oh and it blames whatever interrupted it.) This also means it doesn’t work with Bluetooth headphones: it will play, but you can’t use your set to pause it. Every episode change, again, the app stops playing. You have to restart. Finally, it has an utterly atrocious UI. For whatever reason the devs seemed to think users would only want to “play next” and not “add to queue.” Meaning you have to constantly reorganize. The episode playlist function is completely useless. As soon as I hit “send,” I’m looking for a different app.

Reviewed on 7/14/18 10:52 AMI like a lot about how this app works. I like being able to go through my shows, pick the episodes, and have them appear in a list of saved episodes. I can sync between my devices so that I don’t have to add them to multiple devices manually. I can even save stuff I have already listened to in an archive. The “My Front Page” is a useless mess, but the app gives me the option to start with my Favorites so that I don’t have to see it if I don’t want to. Oh, and I can add it to Sonos and play through Sonos. This app loses two stars, and maybe should lose more, for one reason. It’s missing several of the shows that I want in its directory, and there’s no way to add a feed URL that I can find. If they don’t have it in their database, I can’t add it. This means that I have to have another app just to hear some of the shows that they do not carry. It’s not just one or two missing, it’s several . . . Bioethics on Air, The Jennifer Fulwiler Show, Catholic Answers Focus, The Catholic Cafe, The Doctor is In (Ray Guerendi), and Stephen Herreid. With that many shows not available, it makes the app a whole lot less useful for me.

Since then I have asked tech support and Help-Contact Us for help in getting this podcast back. I have been told 1 - the podcast no longer exists, 2 - I should be able to access it, 3 - they will help me restore it, and 4 - the publisher has removed it from Stitcher. Every one of these has been proven to be false. Why not just tell me the truth about why this and other paid podcasts have disappeared from the search engine. I usually listen to podcasts before and after work and on breaks, so there will be a few hours in-between when I use the app. The play/pause button on the bottom goes away by the time I want to continue listening so I have to search for the episode all over again. It seems so fundamental to be able to easily go back to the latest played episode especially when I’m still in the middle of it. Also, I stream just like with Apple’s podcaster, but this one quits on me way more easily if I lose service. It plays that creepy sound over and over (the sound of a finished record on a record player I think). Both the lack of functionality to keep streaming and the use of that sound effect are annoying. Reviewed on 6/22/18 2:04 PMI moved to stitcher a few months ago when my previous app was not downloading my podcasts in the background like it should. All in ask is that when I walk out the door after being on WiFi for the last 12 hours that my favorite podcasts have been downloaded. Stitcher did this for a while but I've had nothing but problems the last couple weeks. It will say it's downloading 1 of 2, then 2 of 2, but when it's done nothing has actual downloaded. When I try to get it to did download manually, that doesn't work either. I also get frustrated that it deletes the last episode- even if it's unplayed - when it downloads a new one so I'm constantly re-downloading something that should never have been removed. And if this is a space saving feature, maybe a better option would be to download played episode, which can linger for a long time. Even when I'm getting space warnings, I have to manually remove those played episodes because stitcher isn't smart enough to do it For an app people can actually subscribe and pay for, I expected better. Why is it so hard to find a podcast app that will consistently download my new episodes when they're posted - without my promoting- and remove them when I've played them? I'm not asking for the moon here!

Reviewed on 6/15/18 6:37 PMDo I love Earwolf’s original podcasts? Yes. Do I love my podcast app crashing on me every few seconds? No. My preferred settings never stay the same they always restore to default setting every few days, my downloads get deleted constantly, I select that I only want to download on Wi-Fi, but it ends up using up all my data anyways. I have installed and reinstalled, tried turning it on and turning it off again, and logged in and out like the mind customer service representatives suggested. But this is not something they can help. The organization in the structure of the app and podcasts change from podcast to podcast. So basically one podcast can be organized from newest to oldest, but the next will be the opposite, the next will be organized in numerical order, and then the reverse of that like a countdown for some reason? Another podcast can be organized by episode title alone, and some seem to have no organizational pattern at all. These issues matter in many podcasts, even if they didn’t what if you wanted to listen to them in the way that they aired? Why do some podcasts have seasons and others are an infinitely long list that you have to scroll down to the bottom of if you want to listen to them in order. When it comes to podcasts that have to be listened to in order and have 300 episodes, this is very unnecessary and frustrating. But then podcasts with 25 episodes are broken up into 5 episode seasons even when their continuity doesn’t really matter? This makes no sense. Frequently my other podcast apps have episodes that don’t appear to upload on Stitcher at all and Stitcher is the only one that I’m even paying for. I’ve contacted customer service plenty of times and while they were very polite and tried to help, none of the troubleshooting efforts ever work. Because it is the app that is the problem. It needs to be completely revamped. The end result leaves me paying for a podcast app simply in the hopes that I may be able to listen to the original content that I am attempting to pay for when I want to listen to it and that is not always the case. More often than not I get frustrated with trying and give up. It frequently downloads podcasts to my phone that I don’t even want, no matter what I do, what settings I change or how I use the favorites or saved episodes features, which in and off themselves are very useless and confusing. The only options to download new episodes are to download them all or deselect the feature which deletes them all. Which feels like this weird thinly veiled threat? Like either you download every new episode to keep our numbers up for ads and sponsorships or we delete everything you want to listen to. This whole part of the process is very manipulative and odd. So I either download it all or nothing? Or sift through a list of 500 episodes every day to find the ones I want and still have to get stuck downloading ones from years later I am nowhere close to being on. It seems as if the developers of this app are not quite sure how to do what they are doing. It is imperative that professionals be employed, because there are simple issues fundamentally wrong with this app that could easily be changed. When I as a user with little to no knowledge of programming could fix an app overnight you know you have a problem. I will continue to pay for Stitcher to have access to Hollywood Handbook, Off Book: TIMP, Wild Horses, Raised By TV, Threedom and many other Earwolf and Stitcher originals. And I am grateful when I am actually able to listen, and when I can’t I just look at the money being taken away from me in my bank account and write long letters to whomstever will listen about my distaste for this app. I’m gonna keeping using it, so take my money but you get 1 star and that’s for access the content (sometimes) not the actual app itself.

This app has always been close to unusable for me - unintuitive and clunky UI, strange content organization, and automatically deleting downloaded episodes? Now, with the most recent update I get an error (two, in fact, and they have occasionally come up several times at once) that say I need to log out and connect to my Facebook account? No thanks. Never had it connected to any social media, never changed any settings - but now I have to push EVEN MORE buttons in order to get to the content that I want. Let’s not pretend that anyone who uses Stitcher (and, more specifically, pays for the premium subscription) does so because they prefer this app to anything else available. We are here for the Earwolf content and back-catalog and no other reason. Were I able to listen to older Comedy Bang Bang or Spontaneanation, etc, or Offices and Bosses and the other premium content elsewhere... I’d do it in a heartbeat. I understand a company wanting to delineate itself from the competition, but, as the old saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” - there are plenty of podcast apps out there (BeyondPod, for example, which is unfortunately only on Android) who handle categorizing and presenting a user’s subscription list simply and efficiently. There are apps that give access to exclusive content, but also effectively present the publicly available content, there are some apps who generally do not do anything special (*cough* Apple podcasts *cough*) that survive solely because of their existing prevalence, and there are some that do little but do it well... Stitcher has somehow missed all of the positive attributes of each and cobbled together this whatever-this-is. I’ll throw my name on the list of people who don’t understand why we need to hear some woman tell me that the episode is resuming - I KNOW, I PRESSED THE BUTTON. Does anyone who works at Stitcher even use the app? I am longing for the day that I am no longer forced to use this app in order to get the comedy podcasts that I enjoy.

Not only do you have to work at finding the content you want, the mechanics of the app are equally frustrating. Often the podcast I’m listening to will suddenly stop and say it’s no longer available. Now this could be a third party issue (ie soundcloud) but the one that really bugs me is even tho I’ve set my playback preference to play oldest to newest it refuses to do so and will always play the next oldest. Reviewed on 4/18/18 5:51 AMI assume that I am not alone in my desire to keep my wireless data use low for podcasts that I should be able to download on WiFi and listen later. How does this work in the Stitcher App? Well, the safest thing to do is to tell your phone not to let stitcher use wireless data, and I did this for many months. The problem is, if you use it in offline mode Stitcher almost always forgets where you were in your podcast episodes that you listened to in offline mode. Super annoying. So then, silly me, I decide to trust Stitcher. After all, they have a button under settings that restricts downloads to when you’re on WiFi. If I let the app use wireless data, maybe it will actually remember where I am in the episodes I’m listening to, but won’t eat up my data? But no! For some reason when Stitcher reaches an undownloaded episode in my playlist while I’m not on WiFi, it begins downloading it! Doesn’t even ask for permission. And yes, the button in settings still says that it should only download using WiFi. What gives Stitcher? Why can you not record episode progress client-side? It’s like 2 bytes of information per episode. And why do you allow the App to download whole episodes when your own settings explicitly forbid it?

However, you can subscribe for free, if you don’t mind commercials, or want to try Stitcher. Stitcher is easy to use. It enables you to place favorite podcasts into playlists, order them as you like, and then play a playlist’s stitched podcasts straight through from beginning to end. You can download via wifi to listen to later. Another nice feature is selecting one playlist to play immediately upon opening the app, which I use for my news playlist. Seriously if you want to be the be all, end all podcast app, take a look at other apps and find out what they're doing that works. Reviewed on 3/26/18 7:23 PMI’ve been using this thing for years (over 3000 hours on here). It’s always been incredibly buggy, but I’ve never found a good replacement. The good: It’s playlist is fantastic, it gets the job done, and it’s library is constantly expanding. It’s seriously the easiest to use podcast app out there, especially if you want to just listen to daily playlists, etc. The bad: One of the most annoying things is that it just randomly crashes all the time now on my iPhone—probably a couple times a day. For all the years I’ve used it I have never understood the offline playing features. It’s not very intuitive. You will get network errors, whereby podcasts won’t play and it will give you a loud disconnect noise that’s terrible (the same noise you get on a large speaker system when you unplug an aux cable).

Now that I’ve paid for a yearly subscription the app has decided I’m not actually a premium subscriber. Even after logging out and logging back in and deleting and re-downloading the app I still can’t access the content I’m paying for. I emailed customer support and got a form email saying they’re only open Monday-Friday and an initial response may take up to 72 hours. So that’s even more time I’ll have to wait before this is resolved. Reading other reviews I see I’m not the only one who has had this problem. This is the most awkward and non-intuitive podcast app I’ve ever used. Playlists are useless; just put the new episodes up! Why should I have to go through multiple steps? Why do old downloads keep popping up after deletion? How about controls that can be used without paging back and searching. I have my complaints about the Apple pod app, but compared to this one, it’s genius. Won’t be keeping this after I run through the free trial. The two stars are for the content. Reviewed on 3/21/18 12:33 AMGreat function but dangerously confusing for use by drivers (who will, despite any advice, use this app). The icons, which are just slightly lightened white-ish superimpositions on the podcast owners’ logo, are nearly invisible and require a long time to find, especially if you are changing your focus from an intense, bright light activity like driving. To compound the problem, basic function buttons are initially offscreen and require scrolling to find. Having to find invisible buttons by scrolling around so much makes this app a major, potentially multi-second distraction for a driver. There is a “car mode” for an in-progress show but those particular controls are the least distracting in the main UI. Since the majority of app use is starting new, saved or favorite shows, the “car mode” does not make this any safer. Fixing the invisible buttons would be an easy and possibly life saving first fix. Fixing the scroll heavy navigation should also be a priority. This review is for the iPhone version.

I can’t customize my download options for individual podcasts. The front page keeps bringing up suggestions that have nothing to do with the types of shows I’ve added to my favorites. The playlists only let me add shows, but I have no control over the order of the episodes. I added the premium Wolverine show and it automatically added episode 2 to the playlist. That makes a lot of sense. It takes a lot of clicks to do anything and it’s way too easy to click on the wrong thing due to the poor layout. It’s too bad that the company that is leading the way to produce premium content forces us to access it with this app. I’m going to keep using it for the remainder of my premium trial but after that I’ll probably go back to using Overcast.

Reviewed on 3/10/18 5:16 AMI only reason I ever use this cause it’s the only way to access a bunch of earwolf content. It lacks most of the features and usability I want in a podcast app... Like, when I click on a show just take me to a complete feed with every episode listed in whatever order I want it sorted. Don’t take me to the newest episode first and make me press a second button to see more, and don’t divide the episodes up into submenus according to season or year. Those things could work as filters but the first thing I get should be a complete unfiltered list of every episode And let me make playlists however I want. As in, I make a playlist and add whatever individual episodes to it I want. Maybe it’s ten episodes of a single show, maybe a mix, it’s up to me. I should ALSO be able to make a smart playlist that is the newest episodes of select shows but that should not be the default. Not everyone wants to treat podcasts like a tv or radio station. For some of us it’s more like binging shows on Netflix. Other people probably have different ways of listening. Basically the current design is clunky and severely limits you to consuming podcasts a certain way. The best podcasting apps have streamlined interfaces and pretty granular customizability. Unfortunately for me it seems like more and more shows I like are putting their back catalogs behind the paywall so I’ll keep periodically using the app for now but if it doesn’t drastically improve I’m going to have to cancel my premium subscription. It’s pointless having access to that content if I can’t listen to it the way I enjoy.

Reviewed on 2/16/18 3:18 PMStitcher has always been a considerably good option for podcast listeners; after opening up Stitcher Premium, it’s become a lot more of a platform that I use, as well. They update it often, in useful ways, and the developers listen to those that use the app, which is always a huge boon. The reason I didn’t give it five stars, though, is because, when I try to listen to certain podcast archives, like Never Not Funny, I can’t sort it in reverse order. I’m trying to listen to a few podcasts from the start, and since they have hundreds at this point, it can be kind of inconvenient to have to scroll through each of them just to reach season one, and it makes me want to not do it at all! If they could organize these archives like Comedy Bang! Bang! is organized, or at least allow sorting between Oldest to Newest and vice-versa, it’d really impact my use of the app. If this gets fixed, I’ll change the review to 5 stars! Thank you guys for all you do!

Used to work great, very convenient, did what was expected. But recent updates have broken this functionality, introducing annoying behavior. These comments are about the free version. 1. The app starts playing on its own at random times. I will be in a meeting or talking to someone and a podcast will start playing. Very embarrassing. There is no one button way to silence it so several seconds pass as I fumble with my phone to pause playback. This one bug is sufficient for me to look for another app. 2. Inexplicably, app will forget that episodes have been played and will start over, forcing a manual scrub to the end of the podcast. 3. When resuming the app, it often skips to the next podcast rather than resuming the one that was last playing. Unless I manually select the previous podcast - a distraction while driving - I end up with several partially heard podcasts in my playlist. 4. I mark all my podcasts to be downloaded for offline listening, because I have a cell service shadow on my route. Instead of playing offline episodes, app tries to connect then announces it can't play anything because there is no connection. New features are fine, but if the basic functionality is broken, those features won't keep me around.

Of course, just because you put the episode in saved does not mean it is downloaded, you have to click a separate button for that. Likewise, with the listen later function you just deselected the “listen later” button and the pod went away. Now you have to delete the pod, but also remove it from saved episodes to get rid of it. Needlessly confusing. Difficult to tell what is download and what is not because they are mixed together. Terrible terrible update.

It's a nice platform and I've stuck with it since 2012 because of that. Beyond that the app is clunky and gets in the way with "recommended" as an opening screen. There are some bugs in playback but nothing that prevents me from using the app. The big downside to this app is the ads. I've seen freemium kids games that have less ads. Full screen audio ads at the start and intermittently between episodes, banners at the bottom, and hey sometimes an ad when you open the app!! It's very quickly draining any loyalty I have for the app and they need to stop.

Some podcasts have just disappeared without warning but I can still find them on other podcast players so the question becomes why use this one when other free ones are better? Why change things and not make things better for users? Are they actually asking users what they want and need? I have used this podcast player a lot through the years but am very disappointed in the lastest design and updates. Not user friendly at all and it still needs a lot of work. Not a fan of the squares design front page. I do hope they change that and give the list option again as option.

I received an automatic response saying they would respond as soon as they could. That was 5 days ago and still no response. Meanwhile, I started keeping my iPhone in the next room and would grab it as I left for work. On Nov 30, after a night of sleep, when I went to the next room to grab my iPhone, I noticed it was again playing a Stitcher podcast. On the flip side, maybe add MORE to this feature. Have a voice tell me when I do anything in the app. Continue to support the voice over industry by paying another British woman to tell me when I’ve “Unsubscribed to Premium”, for example. I can assure you I will be unsubscribing and saying goodbye to Stitcher should they not fix this and other bugs. Also, the failure of the app to support custom URL’s keeps me from making this my default podcast app. Many of the featured shows in the app also have Patreon supported content you cannot listen to in app as a result. I previously noted that I thought due to the developer responses that they were trying. Unfortunately as each version of this app fails to address it’s own counterintuitive interface and useless “features” no one is asking for it would appear this is just lip service. It’s a shame as there is a fair amount of content exclusive to the app I’d like to hear, but in a world overwhelmed with content, it hardly seems worth the bother.

Reviewed on 12/15/18 12:00 PMI’ve been a Stitcher user since 2015 and I’m dropping the app due to functionality problems and an increased use of ads. First, the good. Stitcher is great at recommending new podcasts that are catered to my likes. It has a simple interface that works pretty well. It’s easy to jump in and out of podcasts, save favorites, and browse. Now the bad. On my home page, Stitcher pushes podcasts that are not in my interest range, most likely because the podcasts paid a premium to be advertised. The homepage is also too narrowly catered to specific genres. I listen to news pods daily but also listen to story telling pods fairly often. The problem is, I only see news pods and unrelated sponsored pods on my homepage, which doesn’t totally reflect my diverse consumption. Stitcher is slow to update new pod releases sometimes. Not sure if this is a problem on their end or on podcast developers. Either way, lately I’ve been going straight to the web source for some of my favorite podcasts because Stitcher doesn’t have new episodes until, sometimes, four or five days after they’ve been released. Stitcher bombards you with ads before and after every episode. This is unacceptable when I can access podcasts straight from the web without additional ads. Stitcher also pushes sponsored podcasts on its users. I’ve never listened to pop culture gossip shows before but I see them all over my home page and as adverts before listening to a pod. Sure, you can avoid the ads by purchasing Stitcher premium. Or you could download, like, any other podcast app. As such a long time user, it’s a shame to drop the app, but it just isn’t worth the hassle anymore.

Reviewed on 12/1/17 6:16 PMBelow, you will find the original review that I wrote for this app about a year ago. If you had asked me my opinion earlier today, though, I would have revised my “5 stars” to “1 star;” since the latest update, Stitcher has continually said it was in Offline mode and has been a complete PITA. This morning I ended up deleting and re-installing the entire thing, and now I’m back up to a 4- or 5-star rating. I like the new interface (especially now that it is actually working!); I like the Saved Episodes function; and other aspects of the app seem well-designed. I do think they should allow drag-and-drop re-arranging of the playlists, though; it’s incredibly annoying to have to scroll all the way through my (admittedly long) Favorites playlist in order to find podcasts that have been favorites for years. In general, I think they could do playlists better. Another beef I have, has to do with my Slate Plus podcasts — I cannot understand why they don’t have a dedicated stream — but I suspect that’s more of a problem on the Slate side, and not Stitcher’s fault. I agree with others that the ads can be annoying and seem to be increasing by the day, but at this point, at least, we can still skip past them. Once that functionality goes away, I might end up investigating other podcast platforms because that might just be too annoying to stand. Here’s my former review, for what it’s worth — most everything I wrote, definitely still applies: I absolutely love this app. I have used it every day for several years, and today realized that I am so appreciative of its quality and functionality that I really owed it to the developers to at least take the time to write them a review. Especially since it is free! As a dedicated Mac user since 2004 (and as someone who has only minimal patience for technology-induced frustration), I guarantee you that I would have reverted back to the standard Apple Podcast app -- or sought out another alternative -- if Stitcher hadn't been as good as it has been for all of this time. Instead I have this easy app, which is always at my fingertips and automatically syncs across all of my platforms. I can download over wi-fi without incurring cellular data charges, if I like, since even that functionality happens automatically without causing me any hassle or distress. It saves past episodes when I want to archive, and playlists are super easy to create, reorganize, and maintain. Not only that but they also offer all the best podcasts I could want and I'm frequently introduced to new ones that are well-suited to my interests and tastes. It's a great app and well worth trying out, at least.

Reviewed on 11/30/18 12:31 PMThe app has some benefits and some premium content I enjoy. That being said, an app I’m paying a subscription price for should work better than the free apple podcast app. This app constantly freezes if it does not remain open. I’ll move from another app back to it to fast forward or start a new podcast and a grayed out version of the screen appears and none of the functions work. What I am listening to continues to play but I have to hard shut down the app and restart it if I want to use it. Not fun. Additionally, I got the app specifically because it advertises its ability to sync with Sonos. Specific content is hard to find on Sonos and the app no longer keeps track of where it is. I have to try and remember exactly where I’m at in a podcast if I am listening through Sonos, find the podcast on my phone through the sticher app, and then fast forward to where I was to continue listening. This is necessary in reverse as well going from the phone to Sonos. The apps controls in Sonos also do not include any fast forward or rewind buttons other than the buggy option of trying to hold the forward or backwards buttons down. Feels like I’m using a tape player. Not very premium for the price.

Reviewed on 11/29/17 4:35 AM1. Everything about the UI on this app is incredibly bad. No searching within podcast feeds... For instance, in you cannot say to yourself, “hey I want to find that one episode of Fresh Air where Tom Hanks was interviewed.” You have to just search “Tom Hanks” and scroll through every podcast episode in the universe that mentions Tom Hanks (or anything else you actually care about.) Alternatively, you can google “Tom Hanks fresh air episode,” find and write down the date that particular episode was released, then go back to the podcast in stitcher and scroll down till you find the episode published on or around that date. (In other apps, you simply tap on Fresh Air, then search Tom Hanks. Boom there’s your episode ready to play.) 2. The feeds on this app don’t appear to read or display the rss info accurately or completely. For instance, I see episode titles, but no subtitles in the way I see them on other apps. 3. The fact that each episode is displayed as a giant bubble that takes up a large chunk of the screen makes it insanely difficult to quickly scroll down through a large archive of episodes. This style worked for Pop Up Video, not so much for podcast organizing. 4. I don’t even know how to see which shows I’ve subscribed to. There’s a “favorites” section, but this seems unnecessarily different than literally every other podcast app I’ve ever seen. How about a section called “your podcasts,” or “subscriptions,” etc.? “Favorites” seems like it should be a distinct subset of podcasts you already subscribe to. The only reason I’ve got this app on my phone is because certain shows I like host their entire back catalog on stitcher premium, the subscription service stitcher offers. Honestly though, it’s so hard to find specific old episodes of podcasts on this app that it’s not worth the money. Maybe I’m just a traditionalist when it comes to RSS feeds. I liked google reader (RIP). It seems that this app completely ignores the “REALLY SIMPLE” part of the RSS acronym. I am worried that people who have never listened to podcasts will start by using this one and then run away screaming because of how unintuitive the interface is. Use Downcast instead.

Reviewed on 10/6/18 10:35 PMTo the developers: I appreciate your efforts to revamp Stitcher, but the older versions were fine. Stitcher has now gone more visual, which I feel is unnecessary, and there are extra tabs/icons at the bottom that I don’t need (and they just get in the way visually). This version seems buggier than the last—I keep getting podcasts cutting out midstream, and one of them had a glitch where midstream it would go back and start playing from somewhere earlier in the episode. It also seems slower to load podcasts in the first place and to get to the page/podcast I am looking for. I really don’t think it’s necessary to update an app where there are no problems. Better to stick to what you’ve got, if it’s working, and make minor improvements than to revamp the entire user interface and introduce new bugs.

Even better is when the app decides to restart the entire program for no reason, so you have to guesstimate where you last were, which really isn’t feasible while driving. Finding ALL episodes of a program is difficult, since you get linked to recent ones first, and if you’re jumping around in a series, you can’t really pickup where you left off (especially if it sends you to the beginning or to the most recent one in some cases). First and foremost, why can’t I listen to a podcast, pause it (or have it automatically pause upon closing the app), and have it there waiting for me to pick up where I left off upon reopening the app? Seems like this should be a basic/fundamental feature. Instead, with the new update, I’m now forced to search for the episode once again to replay. What’s more, why is there not a “recently listened to” section. Another feature which would seem fundamental. It would also be nice to have a setting - and maybe it is in there but I haven’t figured it out yet - whereby I can automatically download certain shows into selected playlists upon their release. Bottom line, I like the stitcher content and still prefer it relative to other podcast apps, but I feel I spend far too much time fiddling with the unnecessarily confusing interface - which has plenty of room for improvement.

I can’t find some of the podcasts on it that I can find with other podcatchers, and I would like to subscribe to some feeds from Patreon, but... no, actually, I have no idea why people dislike Stitcher so much. I recently spent a few days trying the top rated podcast apps by various tech sites, and in the end I’ve come back to Stitcher. I spend about 4-5 hours a day listening to podcasts, and Stitcher is the only one that consistently works; my podcasts play continuously and they don’t stop randomly in the middle. Also, nothing beats their organization/playlist system. The closest I came was Overcast, but I couldn’t easily get from an individual episode page to the podcast page to listen to back episodes, which is vital to me as I listen to a lot of serialized and narrative podcasts (you have to start from the beginning). Apple podcasts also made the journey from individual episode to episode list too long and complicated, as well as just randomly stopping in the middle of a podcast six or seven times today and finally refusing to open, merely crashing as soon as I tap the icon. In addition, I (as a broke grad student) appreciate that the app is free to use, with an optional [affordable] membership for expanded services, etc. So I give them 4 stars, and they could get that fifth if they offered all the podcast options of some other apps and allowed the user to subscribe to feeds by URL. I will continue to use Stitcher anyway, because it’s the app with the best/easiest functionality and I’ve had a positive experience so far in the months I’ve been using it! I look forward to the developer making continuing improvements and, in the mean time, great job, Stitcher! For example, one of my podcasts had finished playing in my saved playlist and I went to unsave it and accidentally pushed remove from favorites. It would've been very easy to forget which podcast I had just removed and lose this podcast. It should not be possible to remove from favorites within a playlist.
