I’m a new user. This app gave me access to the article I wanted to read. However, I found it very odd that I had to read it it like I was looking at a picture of the actual printed newspapers page. So, I cannot just search for a keyword, only for magazines, and then I have to know which date my article was published next issue is not all papers are included. and there isn’t a way to suggest new magazines as dar as I can see. I’m still an “unregistered” user even though I’m a subscriber and nowhere does it say the benefit of registration so looking for scientific magazines (I had Quanta Magazine in mind describing quantum phenomena to the public) or medical journals (Like Journal of Alzheimer’s disease) will not be fruitful

The one thing that is missing is that despite hd Siri voice in set as the main narrating voice and works perfect with any text in any app, this app is somehow using inferior voice which you really don’t want to listen to.
pixelwalker's Review of PressreaderReviewed on 8/17/18 10:35 AM
My access to all possible world press became instant, my opinions became influential, my channel is growing and developing super fast. Three great features I’ve never seen before but always dreamed of: real time Translation (you don’t need 3rd party anymore) - very convenient - just imagine you can read any language! (Italian Vogue is not longer Italian) Then you don’t even have to read, Voice Reader can do it aloud. And finally the Boomarks! (I still have those thousands of heavy folders I used put teared magazine pages in from my student years). The app delivers the fresh issues of all I read right to my account. I’m shocked! I’m in future!

Press Reader is an excellent substitute for the printed paper. I love that it is identical to the print edition. Because of that I KNOW that I’m not missing anything. It is as easy to navigate as the printed paper and maybe better because one can enlarge the print. I wish one could email an article from it but you can’t. If one could it would be perfect. Daily NY Times used to download automatically each morning when it became available from publisher. All of a sudden, it stopped downloading. Now, to get each day’s issue, I have to go to “Publications”, wade through all of the newspaper choices, find today’s Times, and tap on it. This is worse than inconvenient. Sometimes you list something for download that isn’t even available yet, like The NY Times Sunday Book Review. Tapping it just produces a “Not Available yet” notice. What’s the point of listing something that can’t be downloaded? When will you restore automatic downloads for subscribers?

(2) From the main screen, the little “More” menu is blank (“...” at lower right corner of screen)! (3) From the page preview display, the little vertical ellipsis at the bottom of the screen also brings up a completely blank menu! Please help!

But there is no NYT available. App is largely worthless
ggmpd's Review of PressreaderReviewed on 4/24/19 10:27 PM
My library system has a subscription to Press Reader. To sign in with your library card the Press Reader video says all you need is the library system name, your card number and your PIN. This is supposedly how the web version works but the iPad app wants you to also create an account. You can’t bypass this. However sometimes the app seems to think you’re on a library hotspot (I’m not) and lets you get on anyway. The next day it forgets and wants to charge you through iTunes. But, if you wait a couple of hours it thinks you’re on a library hotspot again. I don’t know who designs and writes this software but they sure don’t test it.

This is a terrific app when it is working. If the app has to be re-downloaded or there is any other issue, there is absolutely no meaningful customer service available to the end-user. They insist on communicating via emails which do not solve the problems. For companies as large as the New York Times and the Washington Post and other major newspapers, there should be some way of providing interactive customer service in order to get this app running. Their webpage that is designed to authorize devices, does not work!

Update: July 19, 2015 This is, very truly, a dumb reader. Quite sophomoric. As long as my demands were simple - just one newspaper - everything went well. I tried other papers offering samples. I didn't like them and wanted to get rid of them showing up everyday and distracting me. Not possible! Then my earlier complaint too, below. A dumb reader indeed. --- The app meets and exceeds many expectations. I wish I could copy and download elsewhere.

I've been using this app for two years, some days I get the auto download, but most I don't. This then requires me to go to the utilities, log out, and re-log on, then do a manual download for each publication. It's a daily pain, and my only complaint, until it got fixed in May 2015 - works like a champ every day! Now my only complaint is I wish they had a version that work as well for Windows machines!
%_Mike_%'s Review of PressreaderReviewed on 12/17/18 12:40 PM
The app doesn't currently allow to confirm the purchase before downloading. Basically, a wrong tap ends with an unwanted charge to your account. In addition, no indication of price is given before downloading. Therefore, this application is not suitable for a general reader unless one is willing to accept occasional unwanted charges, or has a monthly subscription (available for around $29/month). Too bad as it would be a very fine product otherwise.

This app has many features, except the obvious: you can't see a zoomed image of an entire page! What are these people thinking? So, I wind up missing a lot of stories that are below the half page view. It's annoying to have to swipe up to see the bottom of every single page. What a pain. Other newspaper apps show the full page in a small, but readable format. Big disadvantage.

09-14-17 final update I today emailed NY Times to cancel my subscription, due entirely to this useless piece-of-garbage app. Latest problem is that if I don't download the issues every day, I lost that day's paper forever. No way to go back even 1 day and get the missing paper. A moronic "upgrade". I give up on this app...and I'm probably a better person for dumping the Times, too. Previous: I subscribe to the NY Times replica edition, for which PressReader is the default viewing app. Issues aren't available or disappear, customer support is nonexistent etc. This is a terrible app choice by the NY Times and is forcing me to cancel my subscription. 04-24-17 update- PressReader won't provide support no matter what I do and I am forced to cancel my NY Times subscription. App now continually tells me to "register" even though it shows me logged in and shows my name. Won't give me any NYT issues. I give up. Be warned, this is a horrible, horrible impossible to use app.

I really like Press Reader. It is the closest thing to having the New York Times in one's hands. A very useful adjunct to my monthly study of the Buddhism of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo; I take the print version of "Living Buddhism" but also routinely download the electronic version to PressReader, and make use of it in District Meetings when I forgot to bring the paper version. Ditto for the newspaper "World Tribune". The program is very easy to use, and has never crashed or lost content. Recommended highly!
1-sub reader's Review of PressreaderReviewed on 12/16/18 12:37 PM
Clearly, PressReader is a well-written app. It doesn't crash (from what I've noticed). There are two ways to read: 1) zoom or pinch-in to view an article 'as-printed'; 2) tap an article's title to read 'single-column text', w/inline photos. Let's not to get too gaga about iOS functions (Reading aloud) which PressReader leverages; yes it is well-integrated with iOS & yes, you can have it read articles to yourself. As a single-paid-subscription reader, I'm a bit annoyed by the app trying to get me to read other publications, both during setup & use (tho the latter can be turned off in settings). I keep downloads organized by issue/date, & so find the Library to be messy (so minus 1 *). As a free app, it's good… Just takes a little getting used to & user acceptance/(sigh) resignation about certain "features".

Tkundla's Review of PressreaderReviewed on 12/16/18 12:37 PM
HAVING THE MENU ALWAYS VISIBLE IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT! When reading an article menu is always at left side so it cuts off the third column. When you swip to the right it still cuts off the same column on the left hand side. You have to hold your finger on the iPad to manually keep this column in view to read it. This was fixed. I have changed my rating to 4 stars. (I don't like the Download page, it cuts off half the paper thumbnails)

Generally it’s a good app. My only problem is that there is the option to save pages to your collections, yet there is absolutely no way to actually access them?? I’m guessing this is a glitch or something. Would definitely be 5 stars if this was fixed. For anyone else that needs this feature, the workaround that I’ve been doing is taking screenshots then cropping out the top and bottom so it shows just that page.
A Herrmann's Review of PressreaderReviewed on 11/16/17 11:50 AM
I have to revise my previous review because the latest version is not stable. The blue hyperlink to enlarge an article only works on select articles and crashes the program on others. Repeated requests to customer service have not solved the total problem. They now seem to have fixed the front page of the NY Times but not inner pages like the Opinion page. PLEASE FIX! Finally fixed! Now works well on my iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen. I would like to add my frustration to the other NY Times reader reviews. The Press Reader column on the left cuts off NY Times columns and requires ridiculous slide and hold maneuvers to read the paper. I don't understand why the reading experience got worse with this update. Please fix. Press Reader has a problem with the new iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen. It provides partial columns which require sliding and holding to read some columns. This was reported weeks ago and still not fixed.
Bill54345654's Review of PressreaderReviewed on 11/12/17 4:12 PM
It’s a great idea to be able to get all your papers in one place. While the idea is a 10 the company is a zero. Very frequently there is a problem on their end so the papers won’t download. I’m sure it’s fixed by mid morning but by then it’s too late. I read my papers before work, not during. Most days my papers are blurred so I have to strain my eyes to read it. Enlarging the font only makes it harder to read. Other days some of my papers aren’t there. Contacting lack of customer service is a complete waste of time. There are plenty of other bugs that appear. I’ve seen others address the bugs so I wonder, why doesn’t anyone fix it? I cancelled and I now buy my papers directly and I have no problem. Bye bye Pressreader. Contact me when you’re serious about running an app and you hire people with brains to run it.

At the risk of jinxing this app, PressReader seems to have hit a nice plateau...works well on current and not so current hardware running up to date iOS. The most recent update makes it almost impossible to turn pages by swiping. Pages just don't turn. Please correct ASAP!

This service is a must in my daily routine. It has just gotten better with each version. Keep up the good work!

No back arrow, stuck in just trying to join, not working to find the NYT though the NYT says to use the app for the print edition. I’m throwing it away.

Overall a good app, and it’s easy to use. Only frustration is that the login for my local library frequently does not work and I have to log out and log back in to download newspapers. Hopefully it’s a bug that will be fixed in a future update

It works on Apple iPad very well but not well on Microsoft surface pro 4 . I have tried to interact with tech support without success. They refuse a phone call and seem not to care. I should make clear that I use it only for the N Y Times.

I am not impressed with this app at all. It just makes things that should be straightforward and easy unnecessarily difficult. I do a search on a new device for a periodical I have been receiving for years on an older one, and the search turns up nothing. I wish to de-authorize one device so that I can authorize another and I can’t do that without getting tech support from my organization (the website won’t let me sign in on my computer so I can do so myself. Instead it tells me that my email and/or password are “incorrect” - which they are not). Just a bunch of unnecessarily complicated nonsense! Also, the app has an icon badge which is not self-explanatory. I wish I knew what it signified. Is it the number of periodicals I am supposed to receive (because that does not seem accurate)? The number of issues available for download? (because that doesn’t seem accurate either). What?! I tried opening all my periodicals to see if that would get the icon to it would go away or change, but it didn't. So an explanation of its significance would be nice. With many publications piling up I would appreciate a feature that could instantly put them in chronological order, for finding issues more easily, but there doesn’t seem to be such a feature. Honestly, if I did not need to use this app out of necessity, I would have deleted it long ago.

Really great app idea except for the fact that every time I log into it, it freezes and I have to restart the app to get it to work.
