This app must come pre-installed on all iPhones. Number 1 "read-it-later" app. Easy to use, minimalist and almost no ads. And one of the main reasons I keep using this app on a daily basis is that it's not cluttered, there are no gimmicky useless features and it is quick

As someone who previously loved Evernote, I had become increasingly frustrated with their constant UI/UX changes and speed and usefulness. Pocket is what Evernote USED to be, clean, simple, fast as hell, and useful in clipping and organizing large collections of articles. The highlights feature is similar to what you see on a kindle, but easily aggregates all your highlights across articles into a clean, easily accessible list. Best of all, it's owned and operated by Mozilla, which feels a lot safer long term, and more beneficial to an open and useful internet.
StephenKSU's Review of PocketReviewed on 9/15/18 4:06 PM

There is one issue with the search functionality. When you hit the search button, by default it point to My List tab but there are no items listed. I had to go to another tab then return to My List tab to see the content. It's a refresh issue. Please fix this issue.

The information from ladders is basically common sense. But can be useful reminder. But not if you can’t finish reading the article. First to get to the article they emailed you the title of and a link to it on their site - not the whole 50 article comes in the email. But Judy when one is trying to read the rest of the article past the second ad -now remember it’s just 59 words and if interrupted by 2 ads do far. Then your browser is taken over by amazon advertisements 4 pages deep. Now if I were interested in amazon-they have their own app and I use it. Here when I tried this app hopping it would (like it shows) give me articles in z list I could read. It really no more that a web page bookmark (already invented folks). It gives you there website with all the violating ad abduction. Not worth downloading much less in app purchases.

Austin Aggie's Review of PocketReviewed on 8/28/19 1:41 PM
Adding to previous review: the app continues to add features that do not add value to me while losing or missing others. * document parsing is not as good as it used to be. That is a core function * premium search makes search unusable if you have large archives. Too many results that are simply noise. I would gladly pay if doing so didn’t degrade the experience. Below is my previous review and is still accurate. The app is losing key functionality year over year. There are now several other better options. My issues include: - cannot share a full article without first opening with safari. All other options save a snipet only. Most do not include the category tags. - the premium service addon includes tag suggestions, but the user must manually apply. Very significant workflow issue! - cannot limit number of items downloaded - UI has the button bar in awkward spot for iPad user

kikokuys's Review of PocketReviewed on 8/28/19 1:41 PM
Saves paper, diversifies reading, engages gray matter, makes the issues of being offline and needing more light moot, provides more substantial use of time besides playing electronic games, makes reading more bite-size, and all that without things getting heavier nor bulkier than your cellphone -- what's there not to rave about!
Zach87$$$'s Review of PocketReviewed on 8/28/19 1:41 PM
I’ve always wanted to read more but never could get into big and bulky books/novels but now with the Pocket app, I’m able to read 2-3 different articles a day that interest me and I have the all very organized in my library if I ever want to go back. The discover feature is amazing and allows you to find articles that interest you without falling into the social media universe. Love this app!

I don't know what I'd do without this glorious app. In a world of essential tools to organize, entertain and complete your life, I highly recommend the Pocket app in the top five of your infinite list of never-ending useful applications. I use it everyday. It's quite addictive! I organize countless articles, videos, bits of information from all over the internet in one easy to navigate and highly efficient place and the most important detail of all. The freaking app never let's me down. I can't say the same for a lot of the other apps. This one does its job and allows you to enjoy its purpose without bugs, crashes, or anything else that'll get in the way of your happiness. Great job guys! Suggestion to the creators of this wonderful app. If you ever decide to make any significant changes... Don't you dare. Create a second app and call it Pocket II. Don't mess with perfection. It's the demise of most great products. Ain't broke, don't fix it! Footnote: Any chance we can get a search and scroll feature on the widget, so we can locate links without going directly to the app?
cfgkey's Review of PocketReviewed on 8/28/19 1:41 PM
I love this app because when using it (in addition to the browser add on), you can easily store and read stuff that piques your interest. Especially if you’re on the train or unable to access data service. Also the layout options really appeal to me because it can automatically switch from a day friendly to a night friendly/low light display. Pair that with the recommendations of other readers, makes this a bibliophile’s best friend!

EnochFranks's Review of PocketReviewed on 8/19/18 8:45 PM
Pocket is an excellent concept, but it seems to be lacking good integration with prominent news distributors. Many articles can’t load into the application due to pay walls (WSJ) and others fail to utilize the reader view (The Economist), merely saving links to the original content instead. These problems persist despite the consumer (me) having subscriptions with all the aforementioned parties. These failures may not be entirely attributable to Pocket, but the fact remains that a *payed* service which cannot complete its most basic advertised functions with major news distributors is not holding up its side of the bargain. I hope to return with a better review of an otherwise excellent service once these problems are fixed.
crister1's Review of PocketReviewed on 8/16/18 1:55 AM
Running iOS 11.4.1 on an iPhone, there are some significant Voiceover accessibility issues. The edit field when trying to add tags to articles is not at all accessible by voiceover. When trying to select multiple articles, voiceover does not say when an item has been selected. There are some unlabeled buttons as well. All these little things add up to a very frustrating user experience for the blind. It’s especially frustrating as I am a premium customer. Please fix in future updates.

Pocket is one of my favorite apps. Text to speech & ability to follow interesting folks’ recommend two things I really enjoy. There a couple of changes/improvements I’ve been requesting for some time: that once read a selection move to a “read” folder (or some other obvious visual cue). The 2nd & more important ask is this: ability to select multiple articles for text to speech - I frequently listen to content while driving - a batch option would up the utility of a great app tremendously.

For months now I’ve been using Pocket to capture articles and stories of interest, primarily from browsers, either on my phone, my tablet, or my PC. The user interface to capture articles could not be more simple. I often find I do not have the time to read an article immediately, so I save it to Pocket so I can leisurely read it later on. This also saves me time having to look up the article since I might not even remember where I saw it. The other benefit is that Pocket removes all the annoying advertisements and links that distract you while reading. I also like the fact that Pocket organizes all of your saved articles in one place allowing me to print an article or share with a friend later on. I’ve shared my love of Pocket with many other individuals - all who have thanked me very much for sharing such a timesaving and convenient tool for capturing information of interest.

UPDATE: the developer contacted me directly to let me know this issue is fixed, so I've updated my rating and am happy with the app once again. I appreciate the responsiveness and am so happy I can use the app the way I want to. I have used Pocket for years to store and read articles, and it has worked flawlessly. Recently I discovered the listen feature and was able to enjoy more content by listening when I wasn't able to read. However all of a sudden the app started crashing when invoking the read feature, and now crashes even on simply opening. I have deleted the app, restarted the phone, and redownloaded the app, to no avail. Reluctantly I'm now looking at switching to Instapaper. I'm loyal to apps that work well, but can't keep waiting for this to get fixed.
GregOC65's Review of PocketReviewed on 7/25/18 4:47 PM
All modern iOS browsers have “smart” menu bars which auto-hide when browsing content on mobile devices. Pocket however, insists on displaying a REALLY FAT white menu bar all the time. When reading offline content there is no option to hide the menu bar in Full Web Page view. This is particularly annoying when using the dark theme...10% of the screen is wasted displaying a blazing white menu bar. It’s a glaring (literally) weak point in an otherwise solid product. Please fix this!

Pocket is a very useful application and I enjoy the ability to manage my reading for later in the day and do recommend. What is bothersome is Pockets inability to trend recommended reading that fits my style and interest. Pocket seems to ‘recommend’ one-sided ideologically related articles. Would be nice to set criteria for recommend reading.

I’ve used Pocket for many years and it is one of the first things I download after restoring or getting a new phone. It allows you to easily save websites and articles for later perusal. Instead of having to maintain multiple internet windows open (thus utilizing RAM) you can click the upload icon (in iOS it’s the box with the up arrow) and tap the Pocket icon and your website or article will be saved to Pocket. Open Pocket and find your saved items. It would be nice to have Pocket search for an article as I save many every day but it’s still useful.

Joseph ATX's Review of PocketReviewed on 6/29/18 12:37 PM
I used Pocket across all technology. I have it on my mobile phone, tablet, personal laptop, and work computer. iPhone allows for quick saves across the OS and Chrome desktop extension works great for quick saves. I love that I can save something for later reading or reference without getting distracted from my immediate task. Also, the “Listen” feature is great for a “radio like experience”. Only recommendation for improvement would be screen staying on indefinitely with app in use rather than dimming.
bobbiandjack's Review of PocketReviewed on 6/28/18 5:22 PM
Sorting through things I could read is quite different from reading what I need to read. These two “modes” are usually done at different times. This app allows me to do this easily. Well done!

This is the best, easiest to use app for saving bits you'd like to read--later. I save and save, then read when waiting in line or sitting somewhere. You can too. Later sitting in a wee theatre in Glencoe, my go to read anytime is always Pocket. Best app since reading was created. Eons later, still in love. Past 2001 A Space Odyssey, 2018, this still is my go to read. I’m certain- having heard of Pocket’s desire to monetize MORE it will one day disappoint but for the now-it’s so simply great.

When you read an article from Flipboard for example, you should check what has been saved. I find articles that articles are often longer on Flipboard, but cut short in Pocket with no warnings it has done so. Try this out because if you don’t, you may be sorry to find that it is cut short. If it is cut, you can then save it in Safari’s Free Reading List. It is faster, and covers more articles. There are other free options out there as well.

TimeTraveler's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/26/18 12:31 PM
This app will save articles and then read them to you. This is everything I have been looking for when I come across long articles that I would love to read but don’t have time but can listen to while driving or any legal briefs and other long winded papers that I just don’t have time to read but is very interested in the information . It turns all your articles into a podcast. I have not been this excited about an app in years. The app does not even advertise this aspect of it and it is the best part I would have gladly paid 4.99 for this feature.
sum1dum's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/25/18 12:37 PM
When I’ve read and finished an article, I want to be able to quickly access the highlights later. The current method, particularly since I highlight a lot, makes this very difficult! Allowing for a favorites tab at the bottom and a highlighted tab just sorted by article would be so much nicer. Just show me the articles that have highlights and let me click to see the article specific ones! Also, once I’m done with an article, either mark it as read on my list or let me delete it without another prompt if I don’t have any highlights! Archiving is great, but then makes my highlights hard to access as well. I love the functionality of the app however the organization of where I read and how I recall needs a lot of work.
Corey DH's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/23/18 12:40 PM
One thing I really loved about the previous version app was that you could read part of an article, get in the car and listen to part of it, get out and read some more. Now you can’t do that anymore. It treats the article like podcast, and it’s impossible to find your spot where you left off. They could at least improve the player experience by letting you select the paragraph you were reading and start player from there. Oh also found the player very buggy when connecting to Bluetooth in the car, it would not pick up where we previously had played, or just wasn’t playing any audio at all even though the play clock was running. I’ll be looking for an alternative.
Barreljumper's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/22/18 12:45 PM
I've used pocket for years and it's the best there is for reading on the internet. The only thing is, it's gotten really buggy lately. When ads show up they mess up the article list so tapping on one article might actually take you to a different one. I think the titles shift, but the links don't. Sometimes I can't open new articles I add even after they are downloaded, and I have to restart to open them. Really sad to see this great app start to go downhill.

The fact that this app went subscription was bad enough, but $44/yr.?! I don’t think so. And what makes it so frustrating is that it’s fabulous, but not $44/yr’s worth, for that it really deserves 1 star. UPDATE: Still three boos for going subscription, and, the amount that you’re charging for the features that are added is most definitely not worth it. (And now, the reason you lost another star from me.) I just moved a library of links from Raindrop.io to Pocket and I think I’m sorry I did that. Two things I must have: 1) The ability to edit the titles of each item. When I’m browsing in Safari and save a URL to Pocket, it’s not unusual for the bolder title to read “Home”. I want to be able to edit that. 2) I want to be able to use Notification Badges, but for this to be useful to me, I must also be able to mark all items as read [in bulk]. I want get into why that’s important to me, but it is. Raindrop.io has these two and very basic features. I’m currently shopping for other options, unless I hear that Pocket is going to get back in the game. Started out with a great concept, but clearly not a lot of good follow-through.
fugly_mofo's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/18/18 12:32 PM
Google is the last company I want having anything to do with Pocket and my reading material. I don’t remember ever linking Google to Pocket yet the option exists of “unlinking” the two. Even worse, when trying to unlink I just get an error message and they stay linked. Get rid of google integration for god’s sake! Another much needed feature: a single mass deletion/clearing of my entire archive minus anything I’ve favorited or tagged. Pocket has been annoying from Day 1 making it harder to delete an item than Archive.

Still one of my favorite apps and it keeps getting better. Some of my favorite features: auto dark mode for nighttime reading, listening to articles, and highlighting text. Pocket is such a great way to save articles and other content. Kind of like a virtual scrapbook that lets you keep anything. Makes life easier. There’s one bug I noticed. If I select a tag from the menu, it doesn’t find any tagged articles in my archive. The easy work around is using the search feature. It brings up all tagged articles beautifully.
Uxdude's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:56 PM
App failed on the very first article I tried to listen to (an insanely long New York times article that I didn’t want to read, but was more than happy to have read TO me). Got about 8 min and 20 sec into the article and then the app just stopped reading. The progress bar was still going. However, there was no sound. The app simply stopped reading and would go no further. Tried multiple times but the voice stopped reading in the exact same spot every time. FAIL. Uninstalled.

someone929292's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:39 PM
The new design is terrible. Before, it did look like an iOS app. Now, it looks like some c***** web app. Plus, tagging an untagged item doesn’t work, it just ignores my changes. I can no longer filter by untagged and archived. Seriously considering deleting this eyesore excuse of an app until the old design and functionality is back.
jvp8185's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:39 PM
I’ve been a heavy user of Pocket for the last five years. Amazing app. However the new design starting with version 7.0 is an upsetting change. I hope they fix it. The information density is now pathetically low. For example, on an iPhone 7, the My List page shows four items (before scrolling down) at most. And if an article has a lengthy title or one of Pockets’ new advertisements is stuffed into the feed (another unfortunate change is the extra advertising), it goes down to 1-2 articles per screen, max. Terrible design and excessive white space. Finally, another issue with My List is it should show the actual article publication date. Another example of simultaneously eating up more screen real estate while stripping away rich content.
1235813GG's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:39 PM
When I try to search my archive by tags, I get nothing even though I can see the articles on the web interface. Works on searches on My List, but nothing on Archive.
MrPeartree's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:39 PM
I’ve been using Pocket for years and one of the most important features of using Pocket for me was to find a list of articles I saved in the Archive and fetching it by tags. This feature is gone in the mobile version. If you’re going to redesign the app, you should focus on the customer features that were already there and ensure those don’t break!!

Simple, I absoluv the audio option and yes keep not bugging me w/ unessential frills!
SabSuperfly's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:39 PM
There are so many steps to actually save an article! In the time that it takes to ‘save’ an article, I’m pretty sure I could read five articles, bathe my dog and do laundry. Way too time consuming to be efficient. I’ll continue my old method of quickly texting to myself and going about my business. 🚫
Deezignone's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/16/18 12:39 PM
Starting with the design, it's way too large, fonts and all, and doesn't utilize current screen resolutions to any beneficial extent. Next the UX is getting worse and worse, making it harder to actually use the app for what it's meant for. And that takes me to my main frustration with the recent updates. Pocket has seemingly forgotten why people use their app in the first place. They were formally called READ Later, not LISTEN Later. The listen feature is nice, but it's not why I use the app. More importantly, it definitely doesn't warrent pushing every other feature (like tagging, archiving, and favoriting) out of focus. Also if I'm watching a video in the app it crashes after a few minutes, but that pales in comparison. Bottom line, if you want to make an article-listening app, don't s**** this one up to do it.

Can't read articles while listening & can't listen articles offline. Very horrible update!!!! I request developer to bring back previous version of listening offline while reading it.
markh719's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
Since the app rolled out its new UI, there have been a lot of bugs. Things like titles being mismatched to their articles, titles showing up twice in the list, and the wrong articles being archived from the list. Also sometimes the list won’t show the titles at all just leaving a blank template showing.
Rpm-80's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
Still, several issues tagging and bulk editing. Losing all kinds of articles. If this issue was corrected, it would easily be the best app out there. 2 star.
gee b b's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
I frequently have to delete my social media apps to stay sane...but I also desired a distraction every now and then. Pocket is awesome because I can follow interesting people and read legitimate articles. I can save them and share them with anyone, even if they aren't on the app. It's all the joy of social media, without the drama and self esteem issues.
sperez77's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM

Mike Schinkel's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
Pocket is a nice app and service, but i rate it Lowe because it could so easily be much better, both as an app and a web browser add-in. Tagging is tedious; it does not remember the tags I just used, it’s suggested tags are usually so generic as to not apply, and it does not allow copy/paste of a set of tags. Further, search by tags is far too limited, it should allow tag1 AND tag2. I even have the paid service; you’d think it would be better. It basically feels like the Pocket team does not actually USE their own product, because I bet if they did, it would be a lot more usable.
Romainlap's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM

First thing I wanted to do was save a photo of a recipe to Pocket. Can’t. If it’s just web pages I can use reading list and not have another app confusing things. This is unnecessary. Deleted the app.
Muhammad oli's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
The audio reads of my articles would be way more helpful if I could read along at the same time. The reading right now sounds too unnatural for me to rely it without the accompanying text. Secondly, I use My List as an inbox of articles I haven’t read yet and I usually tag articles before I’ve read them. Once I read an article, I archive it. I would think other people use Pocket the same way and would love if my archived articles still appeared in the tagged folders, and were simply archived form My List.
DoGraK's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
Was one of my favorite apps. Prefer the old version over the new one. I like some new features, like listening to the playlist. Some bugs with the new update, my headset does not control the play/stop controls. However, reading while listening was the feature that made Pocket unique and valuable, been a user for several years but If I can find another app that has that feature, I will make the switch.
Max Chavelev's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
Thank you for adding a much improved audio quality. Unfortunately modal approach to Text2Speech is a problem. - Stories can no longer be commanded to be read from the story screen. - Neither can it be done from a list view. - Instead user has to enter a new mode with a new UI, stories are not presented in the same order as in the main list. Please bring it all together.

...to the most recent version. It feels much clunkier and buggier than before, and the archive list/system is way different. Has been harder to find specific things since I updated over weekend. Wish I could go back to previous version Edit: I sent a follow up email to the developer. This update feels like the app was sold to some Chinese company who gutted features and made it way uglier. I’ve been using pocket almost daily for 8 years and now I probably wouldn’t download it as a new user. Why do companies make these changes to their apps??? So frustrating.

Theulysses's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
The redesign is what brought me back to Pocket. I know this is petty, but the old colorful logo and design looked dated and poorly designed. That’s an enormous pet peeve of mine. I’m an huge fan of the Firefox splash page that now shows top articles on Pocket. I read these every day and they really are some of the best articles on the web. But I hadn’t realized the app had been redesigned, so I never used it on my phone. I decided to once again give it a try because I can’t always read articles on Firefox at work, so I started saving them. Then I realized the new pocket app can read them to me. I’ve been using Voice Dream to read articles to me for years. I love this and truly think it is how many people will consume news in the future. So I was thrilled to see Pocket using this. One day, synth voices will sound like natural human voices. I can’t wait. Thanks, Pocket, for moving this app forward and making a great product.
themoneyman10's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
New app is buggy. The UI is slow and has way too much spacing making it a headache to go through a long list. The syncing does not work and you will keep seeing the same stories reappear. Typical case of devs having nothing to do so they s**** up everything instead.

Great app. I’ve been using it for years but have finally decided to try the premium version. When I read, I like to take notes so I can go back to them later. Please add the option for multiple highlighting colors and to add notes. These additions would be especially helpful.

Pocket has been always great but last updates removed relevant listening feature and its replacement it’s not good enough. Silv達也's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
With the latest overhaul of Pocket with the UI and features, the app has become unusabke for me. All I need it to do is save articles offline and the ability to do text to speech and follow along the text. It became clunky overall. Missing archived articles within sets of categories. The app loads for ages. You must be online for text to speech. Why am I even using pocket if the app needs to be online to fully function? Although there are many welcomed changes and improvements. The overhaul is a deal breaker for me.
aprevite's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
The recent update has made this app a chore to use. It use to be easy and fast. Now it takes forever to sync my saved items. tangeloes's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
This was a great app. I used it for years. I loved being able to not just save articles for offline reading, but to listen to longer articles & annotate & highlight to my heart’s content. With the latest update however, I can no longer have it all-at least not all at once. I can’t easily switch between listening to going straight to the text at that point to highlight a key phrase I just heard. And if I wanted to actually read instead of listen, I need to hunt for my place in the article. Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by the ease in which the old version allowed me to toggle between all these different ways to enjoy the written word. Will these features come back?
JBMII's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
$5/month for a “permanent library”?!?! If I don’t pay up then how “permanent” is my library? I bought plenty of storage when I purchased my various devices so I wouldn’t have to pay to store my stuff elsewhere. So much for my plan... Better search? You’ve got to be kidding me!

JumpToMyLou's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
I love pocket, have used it for a few years now, and have recommended it to friends, especially those who study a foreign language because the audio function was exceptionally useful for this task. The ability to read while listening, and to repeat paragraph by paragraph, to jump forward and backward in the text, all seem to be lost now. What happened? I hope that I’m just missing something and that someone can set me straight.

Everything about this app is fantastic. I love how easy it makes it to save and share everything I could ever want to read. If I had to suggest one improvement to make, however, please fix the UI so that the page flipping functionality works without covering up the bottom line of every page.
David_Burns_Red's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
I don’t know how I ever lived before Pocket. I use it to save everything I want to reference later—whether it's a web article, product I might buy, or just to share links easily between my devices. It's one of the most useful services I have ever used. It really is the “Save button for the Internet”. Suggestions: - The UI in version 7 is a lot more spread out and has a lot of empty space, making the app feel “blown up” when viewed on the iPhone Plus. I prefer the more compact UI of the previous version. It would be nice if there was a setting in the app’s options to control the scale of the UI. I would prefer to see more articles listed with smaller photo thumbnails so I don’t have to scroll as much.

Dr. Gerausch's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
I have been using Pocket for many years (3+) and have often been top 1% of readers. What I ultimately want to use pocket for is an archive (or personal search engine) of all the articles I have read for personal and professional reasons. The problem is that when articles save they might save with unusual titles ( urls, wrong text extracted from the article, general wrong title, etc.). This interferes greatly with the searching system! The tagging system of pocket is great and I have a well-thought out tagging system, but it is not enough to easily search for articles. Ideally, searching for a tag AND a keyword located in the title would be very efficient. Solution: please allow us to rename articles. I have brought it up to the pocket suggestions multiple times over the years but to no avail. Other then that, thank you for making a functional and aesthetically pleasing app that has been well-maintained.
aeinny's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
I used to really like this app but the new look takes a lot away. Each row (article) take way too much space and further more it’s not a fixed height per saved article!! I don’t know why they had to change something that in my opinion looks better and was more effective!
sara1962's Review of PocketReviewed on 12/13/18 12:30 PM
As time goes by, the use of my devices has changed. Over the last couple of years i’ve spent more time looking for articles that interest me whether for pure enjoyment, curiosity or research of information on a particular subject...that being an injury 3 years ago that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. The result of which has crippled my concentration and short term memory. Frustration with these issues is a daily battle. I was never exactly a technical wizard in terms of computers, and switched to Apple products in an effort to simplify the entire process. When I find an article, or series of articles, or a website I wanted to spend some time investigating there came with the excitement of finding it, the pit in my stomach that always accompanied that thrill...where would I put it? My reading list, a bookmark, my list of Favorites??! Attach it to an email to myself and store it in one of my hopelessly disorganized mailboxes, almost a guarantee that I’d search for it and waste a couple of hours, before waving the white flag. And once I randomly chose a spot to “park” it, would I ever be able to find it? At first Pocket sounded like a nice idea. Another option on my list of possible storage spots. But within a couple of days, I realized that when you hit the button to send an article to mail, messages, notes or the dreaded reading list/favorites or bookmarks there was Pocket! A viable, “official” PLACE. I know this is WAY too dramatic for most people, but having a reliable, viable, safe and recognized place to store the information that is valuable to me ranks up there with indoor plumbing in terms of “inventions”. Naturally I’m telling everyone I know about Pocket. A couple were familiar with it but hadn’t installed it. Probably because this news is not rocking their world. However the satisfaction of telling a couple of friends and hearing back that they think it’s a great tool as well. It makes my day. Long long review from someone who never leaves one. I’m sure you won’t have many traumatic brain injured people reviewing your product. Or perhaps when I tell those friends you will (IF they can remember the name Pocket) But thank you. It’s literally amazing how one little app has literally improve my life. You guys ROCK. :)

This app is fantastic and one of the best. I mainly use it because of the read/listen function. It allows me to listen to articles while I'm driving, at the gym, on the plane, etc and can quickly switch from listening to reading. However, the last update changed the listening function and now I need an wifi/cell signal which really limits my usage. It also no longer follows along with the article so I'm not able to switch quickly from listening to reading. It would be great if there was an option to go back to the old listening function or go back to the old release version.

I've been using Pocket for years now, and really found this last update to be horrible for my needs. I dislike the fact that you need to be online to listen to the articles, and also dislike that you can't read the article while you listen to it anymore, not to mention the great feature of highlighting each word read, which seems to be gone forever as well. I'd like to kindly ask the dev team to bring offline reading back as well as the read and highlight feature from previous versions. That would mean the world of a difference. Thanks in advance.

One of the best reasons to use pocket is to read offline. Now after the recent update, the audio isn’t working offline - it asks for cellular or wifi connection. Can there be an option to listen with no connection (at least with a lower quality voice)?
MattMciGamer's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/23/18 3:49 AM
I’m a long time user of Pocket and before these recent updates I loved the app. However, the updates made a few changes that have ruined the experience of the app 1) You can no longer filter the articles you’ve archived by tags. Before the update, you were able to do so. Now, it can only be done on the desktop version of the app. 2) The redesign makes it so that less articles are displayed at once on the screen. Beforehand, the tags would be consolidated. Additionally, the app is glitchier now. Articles that had been archived often reappear and then disappear again from the main list. Articles that were recently added and tagged will periodically either not display or display without the tags that were added to it. If these issues are resolved, I would be happy to give the app the 5 star review it once deserved. When I become economically secured enough, that is when I will get a subscription.

1) This app keeps crashing. 2) when you leave an article the app takes you back to a disorganized list of all your articles, instead of whatever tag you were just in 3) articles that work perfectly fine in reader view on safari don’t load completely in this new update. Even the beginning doesn’t load—I’m getting just the middle? This app would be a lot more useful if you could view your highlights by tag. That way you could see all of your notes/highlights on particular topics together in one place, instead of getting a random list of all of the articles you have highlights in, which is pretty useless. At least in previous versions you didn’t have to click into the article and scroll through it to see highlighted passages. I just want to consolidate my highlights by tag!
deckard1982's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/20/18 5:06 PM

A great male voice reads the title, but then it changes to a female voice reading the body of the article? Doesn’t seem to have an option for the user to change. Also, you can’t listen and read at the same time. Still one of my favorite apps though.

Maksud90's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/19/18 3:41 PM
Prior to the new update Pocket functioned seamlessly and has a user friendly and clean interface. After the update, there’s a greater emphasis on over the top design. Specifically, articles in the “List” are now much bigger so only a handful take up the whole screen. Why not let us choose the view we want? The new view makes it feel CLUTTERED. Also, the TTS feature no longer highlights the text as it’s read. So if you like following along as the text is read out loud, YOU CAN NO LONGER DO THAT. Oddly, Pocket HAS TAKE AWAY MORE FEATURES with its latest update. Why!?

After updating, all of my highlights are missing? Is this a bug or are they truly gone? *** UPDATE 10/19/2018 *** It appears that you can only view your highlights that you have in your list and not your archived articles. What’s the point of highlighting articles if you can’t see all of them? It would be nice if highlights included both your list and archived articles.

Pocket was already an awesome app but the new feature that reads an article out loud makes it the best! I’m on the go a lot and I don’t have a lot of time to read. This new feature lets me keep up with what interests me while I get to my next destination.

For some inexplicable reason, the feature that allowed me to listen to articles while reading them *simultaneously* has been disabled. This was my favorite Pocket feature. I’m profoundly disappointed.
Bekstayo's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/18/18 1:09 PM
Can no longer listen offline - have to be online to listen, so what is the point? It has ruined Pocket for me - the whole reason I had it was to listen offline - e.g, in an airplane, when I’m away from wifi. Why did you ruin the whole reason for having Pocket? I will never use Pocket again because I can’t without being able to use it offline.

Austex999's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/17/18 3:38 PM
This used to be my favorite app. I used it multiple times a day and recommended it to everyone. With the most recent changes, this app is no longer useful to me. The problems that were introduced with this new release are: 1) My prior use of the app has been to download articles and listen to them while I am away from home and offline. The app no longer allows me to listen to articles unless I am online. 2) When listening to an article, the controls periodically disappear and I am unable to pause an article. That is critical as there are times when I am interrupted and need to pause it. 3) This is minor, but I am no longer able to bulk edit and delete articles in my archive. Until the first two problems are solved, I will no longer be able to use Pocket.
Rik Bostin's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/17/18 1:52 AM
Size of fonts was great before. Now titles of articles are Far too small on the list view. Would be node if you provided an option to retain the old size which was viewable by humans.

Was good until last update. So many problems. Row Sizes too big in “my list”, margin problems, report a problem function doesn’t work. Don’t need headphones for this app. Move that button, or make the bottom row of buttons customizable. Very frustrating. What happened to you guys? This last update was amateur hour. BTW, I’m a Top 99% badge reader.
eboldt's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/16/18 3:30 AM
Unusable. I can't select and tag multiple articles any more. App constantly crashes. Tag list doesn't scroll to currently-viewed tag (which isn't highlighted any more). Pull down to refresh is hit-or-miss at best. Very sluggish. The initial release of the new version was even missing the untagged article view option. Seriously, do some testing before releasing updates.

This app was already invaluable. The new text-to-audio feature earns it another superlative: incredible. The software speech is incredibly well done and, I feel, actually enjoyable to listen to, and now I can listen to my saved articles in the car, at the gym, etc. Why this app is free...is beyond me! But I appreciate it! Thank you developers.

I use Pocket mainly for recipes. Now however, I've noticed two problems: (1) when saving something from my browser, I'm repeatedly told to 'login' even though I'm already logged in. I have to go through this 5-7 times before it recognizes my login; (2) when reviewing a recipe, if I press the 'back' arrow the app crashes completely.

i was just talking to a friend about how Pocket would be so much better if they improved the text to speech reader and just two days later they incorporated a whole host of updates to make listening to articles a better experience. Great minds think alike! One bug I’ve noticed since the new update: The send to friend feature seems unable identify senders. I got an email notification with the following error whenever I try: “The share did not include any valid recipients.” Otherwise, loving the direction of the app.

Recent updates have made a mess out of what was a fantastic app. The app is less stable, and there seem to be a significant number of issues with content not syncing between devices, deleted items not really being gone and article tiles not matching up to the actual article. Very frustrating.

vpaleni's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 9:22 PM
The latest update, although looking even better aesthetically and with a much sleeker layout, has made changes that have intruded on my previous uses of your app. I shall state three or four changes that are troubling, that have made it so cumbersome for me to use Pocket, that I have contemplated ceasing to use it altogether (sadly). I will suggest these things to improve the quality of the app: 1. The way I use your app is to save articles onto my iPad and then listen to them later (using the audio feature), while I am doing other things. This allows me to get through material, but also to peek in once in a while at the text if some detail (name of person, book title, link) which I wish to consult later, or save for later, or to memorize. Such an arrangement allowed me to interact with the text audibly or sonically, but also gave me the feature to interact with the text sonically as well as visually. The update that was launched a few days ago severed the text from the audio, making it for me extremely difficult or cumbersome to track the text from the audio. I believe this is a step in the wrong direction, since your current update made the articles into tracks (like songs), severing them from the text, which one should merely listen to. The beauty of the app was that it allowed for me to listen to the articles visually and audibly. This in an unfortunate change which took away the main charm of the app, rendering it no longer useful for me, sadly. 2. Turning articles into "songs," developers gave a standard voice for the automated robotic reader of the text. This reading voice is annoying, as it does not read smoothly, and awkward, as it does not annunciate questions properly, changes in tone and pitch, often confusing relative pronouns for questions and so forth. It is off-putting and grates on my ears. Also, rendering the articles into "songs" format, meant that you introduced the +15/-15 second buttons. This is completely arbitrary, since articles are not divided into those fragments, but into sentences and paragraphs. If I didn't understand a paragraph, I just clicked back and it replayed the paragraph. The 15 second buttons don't track with the logic of the article or its structure, which means that I have to click away randomly until I think I am at the place that I need. It was much much more convenient and logical before, its quite arbitrary now. Also, dividing it into paragraphic units instead of a "song"-track, meant that I can put down the app. Open it up later and it would be at the paragraph that I needed, instead of a unquantifiable and unfinabel place on the line of the track. All this is much to cumbersome, making it more difficult, not easier or convenient, to continue using your app. If you introduced new features which required new skills to operate that would be different. But you seemed to have introduced features that have made it more difficult to use without any gains. It has become less useful and more difficult to operate. 3. For some inexplicable reason I no longer able to listen to the articles I saved for offline use using the text to audio feature, which means that I cannot listen to the articles without access to a Wi-Fi. This is extremely upsetting, since that was one of the best features of the app. I could listen to an article in my car, or on a walk, or as I am doing dishes etc. Now, I put on my headphones, wishing to listen to an article only to find that I cannot since I am not at a cafe or at home. I very much enjoyed being able to do that in the past and just get upset or sad now, being unable to do that. There may be other things that I am forgetting right now. If I sound mad, its because I am, but not maliciously. I love this app, the work you guys have been doing has been WONDERFUL, allowing me to be more productive, making my life more interesting since I can get through more stuff, avail myself to new writers, keeping abreast with the news, book reviews, blogs and all the other good stuff the internet has to offer. You have, in the past, made it extremely easy and convenient, for which I am and will be grateful. I want you to put out a good product, just as I want to continue advertising it to my friends who share my reading predilections. This last update had put all that under question. Please consider fixing these things. I do not think they are unreasonable or will somehow conflict with your current layout. If you wish to move into this new direction without making the fixed discussed above I think I will have to start looking for an app that does those things better. Or, and I say this in all seriousness, please allow me to install the app before this update, so I can keep that one without making any future updates. That would be sweet indeed. Though that would still make me sad that you would be indifferent to your users' preferences and do not care if people are exited to make the updates your work so hard to produce and launch. I look forward to hearing from you. And just to be clear, I am not ranting, I think I am (trying to) make constructive suggestions that will make this app better for me and other users. This app has become a great resource to me and (along with PDF Expert, which I see as this app's twin but for PDFs), it is the most used app I have on my iPad, please don't take that away from me.
C0dr's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 8:31 PM
Pocket's latest version, 7.0 (as of October 13, 2018) saw a lot of changes, many of which were negative. Bugs with crashing and UX changes make the app MUCH harder to use than before. The spacing for the article list is WAY too much - the previous layout and look was much better. As other users have stated, this makes it much harder to scroll through a long list, and the user can only see four articles at once on the screen. Some app-breaking bugs have also been introduced, leaving the app crashing down whenever the screen is locked or the focus goes to another app and comes back. Essentially, to keep the app from crashing you have to always keep your screen on and never go to another app or the home screen. While others might have liked the new speaking feature, there is also an issue with viewing an article while this is happening (as others have stated). Altogether the latest 7.0 version is completely unusable, and while the 6.x version was 5-star, and new one only deserves two or even one due to the new crashing bugs.

In the new version it is no longer possible to 1. view highlights in archived articles 2. find archived articles by tags (one can still search though) 3. read while listening 4. see more than 2-3 items on the screen These are new features, not bugs. There are bugs too: - bulk editing does not work - the app is soooo sloooow I’ll wait for a few weeks, then cancel my subscription.

A couple weeks ago, I switched back to Pocket from Instapaper after a few years use of the service, and ultimately subscribed to Pocket Premium bc I’ve needed a little help with tags, and bc dark mode. Plus, supporting Mozilla is tops. I can’t say enough how happy I am with the most recent update. I had wanted a darker dark mode, and sleeker design that helped me get around faster. I had no idea I wanted the text to speech audio narration, but it very quickly became my favorite thing, and makes me firmly believe in my choice to subscribe. What a fantastic product.
SFDebby's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 3:22 PM
I am extremely visually impaired and have long depended on the excellent Pocket app to read articles to me. Each time an update changes the look or location of controls or lists, however, I am lost. In the recent update, the controls are moved where I can’t find them and the icons are a light gray I can hardly see. The iPad has been a lifesaver for me, but the creators/updaters of apps are making it harder and harder to use. Please think about the visually impaired like me when you design and update your app. Thank you for Pocket.
ScottLeibrand's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 3:22 AM
If you save articles to Pocket from Twitter: DON’T UPGRADE! This version disables the ability to see the Tweet you saved to Pocket (preserving only the article itself) and eliminates the ability to Retweet from within the app, or to click through to the original Tweet to do so. I’ve been a long-time paying premium user of Pocket, but if this is not fixed, I’ll have to figure out how to downgrade, or find an entirely new workflow for saving Twitter articles, reading them, and RTing the good ones.
Rejak123's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 3:09 PM
Latest update adds way too much whitespace to the list view making it much harder to scan through and organize. Only being able to fit 4 titles at a time on an iPhone X when scrolling to find a matching serialized article 15-20 titles back is like have blinders on compared to the previous version. No ad blocking for article view. Toggling between web view and article view is much slower than in safari when I want to read the cleaned up article but switch back to access navigational links in the article view after reading.

This new update caused to me disable automatic updates for apps. I collect a bunch of articles and have pocket read it to me while I drive. In the older versions, it's really easy. Tap. Add to pocket. Open pocket. Tap article. Tap read. Done Sometimes I have to tell it to go to article view if it's another language but I can live with it. If I want to learn Chinese, I let it read and I follow along on the screen. The new pocket cannot read to me. It will read English articles without problems. But Chinese? No. Worse yet, it covers up the text with this banner that you cannot remove. Remove banner, stops reading. And that presentation icon that deletes your articles. Great. Make it easy to accidentally delete articles before you read them. If I go into web view and go to another page and then go back to article view, pocket used to display the article view of the new page. Not anymore. You get your article view of the original page and nothing else! And disallowing selecting text on a page?! What century is this? Absolutely trash update. Totally worthless. I'm going to have to go back to an older version.

Demani97's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 8:07 PM
Pocket was one of my favorite apps Day in and day out. Unfortunately this newest update feels like a step back in usability. The new article spacing means you see far less in a single screen, so you have to scroll more to find articles. More movement means it’s harder to see. This seems like a small complaint, but now that I have to scrub more, I really need some automated searching and sorting. For example, let me sort by the source (NYT, Fox, WSJ) without me having to tag things (or auto-add a tag for the publisher or site if available). Let me sort by date (or at least put in dividers) so I can see what I saved last Friday easily. Now that I have to scrub its actually harder for me to find my place. Let me sort by read/unread. Let me create a shortlist for “read this week” and “read when I have free time”. All of these things didn’t bother me before, but now they are driving me nuts.
FCP7Guy63's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 8:04 AM
This is an invaluable program and service to keep up with news articles. However with the latest update each article link in the list is given a much greater separation and emphasis, almost as if they’re featured on the front page of a newspaper. This is harder to scroll through efficiently than it was with the previous list view when you have hundreds of articles saved. Please, this interface/presentation change was unnecessary and doesn’t add anything to the experience. If anything it makes it look as if I have far less articles than I actually do and would seem to discourage scrolling through many of them which is part of the reason I have your application/service.

What we really need is Pocket's recommendations to allow us to once and for all stop receiving content we absolutely don't want, (anything SPORTS, POLITICS, losing weight, (I'm skinny), etc.), but no matter how much I report these topics irrelevant they keep coming. We need to be able to permanently block entire websites too. C'mon Pocket.... you're behind the times and all the other news aggregators.

Wow I loved pocket before, but this update just cemented that love. The text to speak feature is now even better. It’s like listening to a podcast playlist. The voice is obviously robotic, but now significantly less so. And the updated speed options allow for more incremental adjustments, as well as even faster reading. Simply superb way to consume news.
blueblood724's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 3:49 AM
Whenever there is an update, there are no actual release notes. Without release notes, users have no way of knowing what they are getting in each update. As such, there are any number of things that could be added that are of no added benefit to the end user. My one star rating will stand until the developers actually make release notes. “All the amazing features you’ll love” is not a release note. You might reply to this and say something along the lines of “Well we don’t need to post things like “moved button x 2 pixels to the right” and that might be true, but you owe it to your users to be transparent if you want to be a trustworthy developer. I refuse to use the Facebook and YouTube app for the same reason. This is an industry practice that needs to stop. Apple is beginning the process of cracking down, but here is your chance to be trend-setter. Take it. If nothing else, add a link to the detailed release notes.

GeorgeOJ's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 1:31 AM
I have used the pro version for years, and love it, so I don’t want to make this sound too negative - this has been a great app for a long time for me. Unfortunately, I’ve also come to rely on it as my main content “reading app”, and I’m finding that this new update is frustrating, as it brings few meaningful positive changes, and apparently quite a few annoying bugs that interfere with basic reading functions. I wish I had waited for future dot releases... On iPhone XS Max, the app locks up often and needs to be closed/restarted; selecting multiple entries in the list view, and then batch-adding tags to them doesn’t work at all (you have to go to full article and add these to one title at a time) I tend to tag stuff, so it’s a major pain; trying to add passwords to subscription sites is impossible (blank screen replaces actual content on the URL and password entry screen, with no keyboard, in an endless loop, forcing an app restart, again. There are many smaller annoyances which might be due to my personal preferences, but it’s hard to call them improvements (e.g., tags now take a LOT of space on the list screen, unnecessarily, allowing it to show by far fewer items than before). Yes, audio addition is sort of cool, but most of the people who really like listening to content (I do, when I drive), are probably already using something much better sounding, such as VoiceDream app, with an impressive collection of high-quality, international voices, ability to parse and read correctly PDFs and other files, etc. Pocket offers only the basic iOS voices (and changes them arbitrarily during reading of the same article), which are perfectly functional for quick notifications or reminders, but are not very suitable for sustained reads/listening, sounding too tinny and mechanical. Can’t envision listening to this during a two-hour trip... There is no option to add/purchase high quality alternative voices like there is in VoiceDream. I was looking forward to an “improved” version, but the previous version was great, and now I wish I hadn’t upgraded too quickly. I hope that at least some of these major misbehaviors will get fixed soon in the forthcoming dot releases, and then, hopefully, Pocket will go back to being its good old four star app again? Please? :)

Great app and concept with a other greedy corporation behind the scenes Pay twice that and you get a service like Netflix which offers soooooo much more $10 a year sounds fair for what this does or just kept the ads, they’re not that intrusive, although they probably make more money from them anyway hence the steep subscription price

I originally switched from Pocket to Instapaper because of the free playlists and additional free fonts. But of course Instapaper had to ruin that by making everything that made it better a “premium feature”. Pocket now has playlists and the voices are much better. Deleting that other app today.

New version now plays some things but not others... what gives? Can’t see body of article at all now while voice is on...it’s a downgrade 😡

1. Too much white space around photos and titles in the mobile view. 2. Pressing on the screen no longer brings up the menu to categorize an article.

Fantastic. Clean, easy to use, fast. The new text to speech system works super well. Thank you for investing in this app.

Is it not possible to view archived articles by tag anymore? The new text settings aren’t as clean as before - line height is smushed. Took me awhile to realize what some of the new icons were for. But, the article list & discovery view look cleaner now with some padding.

They revamped it so you can’t access “untagged” items by themselves. Instead they got mixed in with all the other tagged items. If you had that option before, why take it away? Like a usual app builder their upgrades make it worse. Maybe Reddit is better afterall ☹️.
Schnitzengruben2013's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 10:12 PM
I want the old version back. It had features the new one lacks including: 1) The ability to follow along visually while listening. This resolved many ambiguities with CG spoken word (e.g. where quotation marks start and end). Also, I could pause the audio and highlight an important passage. Mo more. 2) The ability to listen without using data. I could turn on airplane mode to save battery and listen to anything downloaded. No longer. I am learning the hard way to never update apps that work. As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Japan Beer Lover's Review of PocketReviewed on 1/10/19 12:41 PM
Pocket is nearly perfect. Since my iPad is WiFi only, Pocket is the best way for me to save articles for later reading. It’s especially useful on trains, buses, and planes. Sometimes saved links don’t display completely or correctly, but you can relink with the original very easily, so it’s not a major problem. Five stars all the way.

The articles are sourced from reputable sites and come in handy when I am offline

Pocket is on the short list of apps that I use everyday.
johnnydelicious's Review of PocketReviewed on 1/10/19 12:41 PM
Extremely easy and convenient to use. No obnoxious ads. Free of charge. Compared to your average App Store app it’s easily a five. -1 star because of one oversight: I often like to read along while listening to the audio narrator. This is not possible in the app! I have to open safari and read along there.
ShaylaN1227's Review of PocketReviewed on 1/10/19 12:41 PM
The app is great for saving and categorizing things but when I go back to view them in the app the pages never old properly. Instead I am taken to a page with HTML code displayed. In order to see the page I have to click the web view.

Great flow of relatively short articles.
anthony12275's Review of PocketReviewed on 1/10/19 12:41 PM
My main gripe with this App is why they recommend articles that you either need to pay for or need a username and password. Also have synching issues across different devices. Could be better.
Aaron pdx's Review of PocketReviewed on 1/10/19 12:41 PM
I have relied on Pocket ever since I discovered it. Nice integration with the desktop browser, and quality interface. Unfortunately the latest re-design has ambiguous icons and is a good deal slower to display saved items.
Dayyyyyyyyn's Review of PocketReviewed on 1/10/19 12:41 PM
There’s not much else to say. Pocket is the best. It’s my favorite reading app and quite possibly my favorite overall app.
