Switched to this app because Instapaper has been having errors. Pocket works great at saving your reading position, in addition I love how seamless it is to read part of an article on different iOS devices.

This app must come pre-installed on all iPhones. Number 1 "read-it-later" app. Easy to use, minimalist and almost no ads. And one of the main reasons I keep using this app on a daily basis is that it's not cluttered, there are no gimmicky useless features and it is quick

As someone who previously loved Evernote, I had become increasingly frustrated with their constant UI/UX changes and speed and usefulness. Pocket is what Evernote USED to be, clean, simple, fast as hell, and useful in clipping and organizing large collections of articles. The highlights feature is similar to what you see on a kindle, but easily aggregates all your highlights across articles into a clean, easily accessible list. Best of all, it's owned and operated by Mozilla, which feels a lot safer long term, and more beneficial to an open and useful internet.

There is one issue with the search functionality. When you hit the search button, by default it point to My List tab but there are no items listed. I had to go to another tab then return to My List tab to see the content. It's a refresh issue. Please fix this issue.

The information from ladders is basically common sense. But can be useful reminder. But not if you can’t finish reading the article. First to get to the article they emailed you the title of and a link to it on their site - not the whole 50 article comes in the email. But Judy when one is trying to read the rest of the article past the second ad -now remember it’s just 59 words and if interrupted by 2 ads do far. Then your browser is taken over by amazon advertisements 4 pages deep. Now if I were interested in amazon-they have their own app and I use it. Here when I tried this app hopping it would (like it shows) give me articles in z list I could read. It really no more that a web page bookmark (already invented folks). It gives you there website with all the violating ad abduction. Not worth downloading much less in app purchases.

EnochFranks's Review of PocketReviewed on 8/19/18 1:45 PM
Pocket is an excellent concept, but it seems to be lacking good integration with prominent news distributors. Many articles can’t load into the application due to pay walls (WSJ) and others fail to utilize the reader view (The Economist), merely saving links to the original content instead. These problems persist despite the consumer (me) having subscriptions with all the aforementioned parties. These failures may not be entirely attributable to Pocket, but the fact remains that a *payed* service which cannot complete its most basic advertised functions with major news distributors is not holding up its side of the bargain. I hope to return with a better review of an otherwise excellent service once these problems are fixed.

Running iOS 11.4.1 on an iPhone, there are some significant Voiceover accessibility issues. The edit field when trying to add tags to articles is not at all accessible by voiceover. When trying to select multiple articles, voiceover does not say when an item has been selected. There are some unlabeled buttons as well. All these little things add up to a very frustrating user experience for the blind. It’s especially frustrating as I am a premium customer. Please fix in future updates.

Pocket is one of my favorite apps. Text to speech & ability to follow interesting folks’ recommend two things I really enjoy. There a couple of changes/improvements I’ve been requesting for some time: that once read a selection move to a “read” folder (or some other obvious visual cue). The 2nd & more important ask is this: ability to select multiple articles for text to speech - I frequently listen to content while driving - a batch option would up the utility of a great app tremendously.

cb4ujudge's Review of PocketReviewed on 7/9/18 10:28 AM
For months now I’ve been using Pocket to capture articles and stories of interest, primarily from browsers, either on my phone, my tablet, or my PC. The user interface to capture articles could not be more simple. I often find I do not have the time to read an article immediately, so I save it to Pocket so I can leisurely read it later on. This also saves me time having to look up the article since I might not even remember where I saw it. The other benefit is that Pocket removes all the annoying advertisements and links that distract you while reading. I also like the fact that Pocket organizes all of your saved articles in one place allowing me to print an article or share with a friend later on. I’ve shared my love of Pocket with many other individuals - all who have thanked me very much for sharing such a timesaving and convenient tool for capturing information of interest.

GregOC65's Review of PocketReviewed on 7/25/18 9:47 AM
All modern iOS browsers have “smart” menu bars which auto-hide when browsing content on mobile devices. Pocket however, insists on displaying a REALLY FAT white menu bar all the time. When reading offline content there is no option to hide the menu bar in Full Web Page view. This is particularly annoying when using the dark theme...10% of the screen is wasted displaying a blazing white menu bar. It’s a glaring (literally) weak point in an otherwise solid product. Please fix this!

Kosi723's Review of PocketReviewed on 7/2/18 7:35 PM
UPDATE: the developer contacted me directly to let me know this issue is fixed, so I've updated my rating and am happy with the app once again. I appreciate the responsiveness and am so happy I can use the app the way I want to. I have used Pocket for years to store and read articles, and it has worked flawlessly. Recently I discovered the listen feature and was able to enjoy more content by listening when I wasn't able to read. However all of a sudden the app started crashing when invoking the read feature, and now crashes even on simply opening. I have deleted the app, restarted the phone, and redownloaded the app, to no avail. Reluctantly I'm now looking at switching to Instapaper. I'm loyal to apps that work well, but can't keep waiting for this to get fixed.

QtrPonderosa's Review of PocketReviewed on 7/18/18 9:34 AM
Pocket is a very useful application and I enjoy the ability to manage my reading for later in the day and do recommend. What is bothersome is Pockets inability to trend recommended reading that fits my style and interest. Pocket seems to ‘recommend’ one-sided ideologically related articles. Would be nice to set criteria for recommend reading.

STUMPYMD's Review of PocketReviewed on 6/30/18 11:48 AM
I’ve used Pocket for many years and it is one of the first things I download after restoring or getting a new phone. It allows you to easily save websites and articles for later perusal. Instead of having to maintain multiple internet windows open (thus utilizing RAM) you can click the upload icon (in iOS it’s the box with the up arrow) and tap the Pocket icon and your website or article will be saved to Pocket. Open Pocket and find your saved items. It would be nice to have Pocket search for an article as I save many every day but it’s still useful.
Joseph ATX's Review of PocketReviewed on 6/29/18 5:37 AM
I used Pocket across all technology. I have it on my mobile phone, tablet, personal laptop, and work computer. iPhone allows for quick saves across the OS and Chrome desktop extension works great for quick saves. I love that I can save something for later reading or reference without getting distracted from my immediate task. Also, the “Listen” feature is great for a “radio like experience”. Only recommendation for improvement would be screen staying on indefinitely with app in use rather than dimming.

This is the best, easiest to use app for saving bits you'd like to read--later. I save and save, then read when waiting in line or sitting somewhere. You can too. Later sitting in a wee theatre in Glencoe, my go to read anytime is always Pocket. Best app since reading was created. Eons later, still in love. Past 2001 A Space Odyssey, 2018, this still is my go to read. I’m certain- having heard of Pocket’s desire to monetize MORE it will one day disappoint but for the now-it’s so simply great.

I am extremely visually impaired and have long depended on the excellent Pocket app to read articles to me. Each time an update changes the look or location of controls or lists, however, I am lost. In the recent update, the controls are moved where I can’t find them and the icons are a light gray I can hardly see. The iPad has been a lifesaver for me, but the creators/updaters of apps are making it harder and harder to use. Please think about the visually impaired like me when you design and update your app. Thank you for Pocket.
Rejak123's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 8:09 AM
Latest update adds way too much whitespace to the list view making it much harder to scan through and organize. Only being able to fit 4 titles at a time on an iPhone X when scrolling to find a matching serialized article 15-20 titles back is like have blinders on compared to the previous version. No ad blocking for article view. Toggling between web view and article view is much slower than in safari when I want to read the cleaned up article but switch back to access navigational links in the article view after reading.

vpaleni's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 2:22 PM
The latest update, although looking even better aesthetically and with a much sleeker layout, has made changes that have intruded on my previous uses of your app. I shall state three or four changes that are troubling, that have made it so cumbersome for me to use Pocket, that I have contemplated ceasing to use it altogether (sadly). I will suggest these things to improve the quality of the app: 1. The way I use your app is to save articles onto my iPad and then listen to them later (using the audio feature), while I am doing other things. This allows me to get through material, but also to peek in once in a while at the text if some detail (name of person, book title, link) which I wish to consult later, or save for later, or to memorize. Such an arrangement allowed me to interact with the text audibly or sonically, but also gave me the feature to interact with the text sonically as well as visually. The update that was launched a few days ago severed the text from the audio, making it for me extremely difficult or cumbersome to track the text from the audio. I believe this is a step in the wrong direction, since your current update made the articles into tracks (like songs), severing them from the text, which one should merely listen to. The beauty of the app was that it allowed for me to listen to the articles visually and audibly. This in an unfortunate change which took away the main charm of the app, rendering it no longer useful for me, sadly. 2. Turning articles into "songs," developers gave a standard voice for the automated robotic reader of the text. This reading voice is annoying, as it does not read smoothly, and awkward, as it does not annunciate questions properly, changes in tone and pitch, often confusing relative pronouns for questions and so forth. It is off-putting and grates on my ears. Also, rendering the articles into "songs" format, meant that you introduced the +15/-15 second buttons. This is completely arbitrary, since articles are not divided into those fragments, but into sentences and paragraphs. If I didn't understand a paragraph, I just clicked back and it replayed the paragraph. The 15 second buttons don't track with the logic of the article or its structure, which means that I have to click away randomly until I think I am at the place that I need. It was much much more convenient and logical before, its quite arbitrary now. Also, dividing it into paragraphic units instead of a "song"-track, meant that I can put down the app. Open it up later and it would be at the paragraph that I needed, instead of a unquantifiable and unfinabel place on the line of the track. All this is much to cumbersome, making it more difficult, not easier or convenient, to continue using your app. If you introduced new features which required new skills to operate that would be different. But you seemed to have introduced features that have made it more difficult to use without any gains. It has become less useful and more difficult to operate. 3. For some inexplicable reason I no longer able to listen to the articles I saved for offline use using the text to audio feature, which means that I cannot listen to the articles without access to a Wi-Fi. This is extremely upsetting, since that was one of the best features of the app. I could listen to an article in my car, or on a walk, or as I am doing dishes etc. Now, I put on my headphones, wishing to listen to an article only to find that I cannot since I am not at a cafe or at home. I very much enjoyed being able to do that in the past and just get upset or sad now, being unable to do that. There may be other things that I am forgetting right now. If I sound mad, its because I am, but not maliciously. I love this app, the work you guys have been doing has been WONDERFUL, allowing me to be more productive, making my life more interesting since I can get through more stuff, avail myself to new writers, keeping abreast with the news, book reviews, blogs and all the other good stuff the internet has to offer. You have, in the past, made it extremely easy and convenient, for which I am and will be grateful. I want you to put out a good product, just as I want to continue advertising it to my friends who share my reading predilections. This last update had put all that under question. Please consider fixing these things. I do not think they are unreasonable or will somehow conflict with your current layout. If you wish to move into this new direction without making the fixed discussed above I think I will have to start looking for an app that does those things better. Or, and I say this in all seriousness, please allow me to install the app before this update, so I can keep that one without making any future updates. That would be sweet indeed. Though that would still make me sad that you would be indifferent to your users' preferences and do not care if people are exited to make the updates your work so hard to produce and launch. I look forward to hearing from you. And just to be clear, I am not ranting, I think I am (trying to) make constructive suggestions that will make this app better for me and other users. This app has become a great resource to me and (along with PDF Expert, which I see as this app's twin but for PDFs), it is the most used app I have on my iPad, please don't take that away from me.
C0dr's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/13/18 1:31 PM
Pocket's latest version, 7.0 (as of October 13, 2018) saw a lot of changes, many of which were negative. Bugs with crashing and UX changes make the app MUCH harder to use than before. The spacing for the article list is WAY too much - the previous layout and look was much better. As other users have stated, this makes it much harder to scroll through a long list, and the user can only see four articles at once on the screen. Some app-breaking bugs have also been introduced, leaving the app crashing down whenever the screen is locked or the focus goes to another app and comes back. Essentially, to keep the app from crashing you have to always keep your screen on and never go to another app or the home screen. While others might have liked the new speaking feature, there is also an issue with viewing an article while this is happening (as others have stated). Altogether the latest 7.0 version is completely unusable, and while the 6.x version was 5-star, and new one only deserves two or even one due to the new crashing bugs.

In the new version it is no longer possible to 1. view highlights in archived articles 2. find archived articles by tags (one can still search though) 3. read while listening 4. see more than 2-3 items on the screen These are new features, not bugs. Wow I loved pocket before, but this update just cemented that love. The text to speak feature is now even better. It’s like listening to a podcast playlist. The voice is obviously robotic, but now significantly less so. And the updated speed options allow for more incremental adjustments, as well as even faster reading. Simply superb way to consume news.
ScottLeibrand's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 8:22 PM
If you save articles to Pocket from Twitter: DON’T UPGRADE! This version disables the ability to see the Tweet you saved to Pocket (preserving only the article itself) and eliminates the ability to Retweet from within the app, or to click through to the original Tweet to do so. I’ve been a long-time paying premium user of Pocket, but if this is not fixed, I’ll have to figure out how to downgrade, or find an entirely new workflow for saving Twitter articles, reading them, and RTing the good ones.
MustIChooseANick?'s Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 7:06 PM
This new update caused to me disable automatic updates for apps. I collect a bunch of articles and have pocket read it to me while I drive. In the older versions, it's really easy. Tap. Add to pocket. Open pocket. Tap article. Tap read. Done Sometimes I have to tell it to go to article view if it's another language but I can live with it. If I want to learn Chinese, I let it read and I follow along on the screen. The new pocket cannot read to me. It will read English articles without problems. But Chinese? No. Worse yet, it covers up the text with this banner that you cannot remove. Remove banner, stops reading. And that presentation icon that deletes your articles. Great. Make it easy to accidentally delete articles before you read them. If I go into web view and go to another page and then go back to article view, pocket used to display the article view of the new page. Not anymore. You get your article view of the original page and nothing else! And disallowing selecting text on a page?! What century is this? Absolutely trash update. Totally worthless. I'm going to have to go back to an older version.

I originally switched from Pocket to Instapaper because of the free playlists and additional free fonts. But of course Instapaper had to ruin that by making everything that made it better a “premium feature”. Pocket now has playlists and the voices are much better. Deleting that other app today.

New version now plays some things but not others... what gives? Can’t see body of article at all now while voice is on...it’s a downgrade 😡
Angular Mo's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 5:22 AM
1. Too much white space around photos and titles in the mobile view. 2. Pressing on the screen no longer brings up the menu to categorize an article.
Jedfw's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 5:02 PM
I enjoy saving articles to pocket in the evening before I go to bed. First thing in the morning while enjoying my coffee I like the articles being read to me. This update is great!
bryanbuchs's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 4:55 PM
Is it not possible to view archived articles by tag anymore? The new text settings aren’t as clean as before - line height is smushed. Took me awhile to realize what some of the new icons were for. But, the article list & discovery view look cleaner now with some padding.
Aathol's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 3:34 AM
They revamped it so you can’t access “untagged” items by themselves. Instead they got mixed in with all the other tagged items. If you had that option before, why take it away? Like a usual app builder their upgrades make it worse. Maybe Reddit is better afterall ☹️.
Schnitzengruben2013's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 3:12 PM
I want the old version back. It had features the new one lacks including: 1) The ability to follow along visually while listening. This resolved many ambiguities with CG spoken word (e.g. where quotation marks start and end). Also, I could pause the audio and highlight an important passage. Mo more. 2) The ability to listen without using data. I could turn on airplane mode to save battery and listen to anything downloaded. No longer. I am learning the hard way to never update apps that work. As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Way way too fast
Demani97's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 1:07 PM
Pocket was one of my favorite apps Day in and day out. Unfortunately this newest update feels like a step back in usability. The new article spacing means you see far less in a single screen, so you have to scroll more to find articles. More movement means it’s harder to see. This seems like a small complaint, but now that I have to scrub more, I really need some automated searching and sorting. For example, let me sort by the source (NYT, Fox, WSJ) without me having to tag things (or auto-add a tag for the publisher or site if available). Let me sort by date (or at least put in dividers) so I can see what I saved last Friday easily. Now that I have to scrub its actually harder for me to find my place. Let me sort by read/unread. Let me create a shortlist for “read this week” and “read when I have free time”. All of these things didn’t bother me before, but now they are driving me nuts.
FCP7Guy63's Review of PocketReviewed on 10/12/18 1:04 AM
This is an invaluable program and service to keep up with news articles. However with the latest update each article link in the list is given a much greater separation and emphasis, almost as if they’re featured on the front page of a newspaper. This is harder to scroll through efficiently than it was with the previous list view when you have hundreds of articles saved. Please, this interface/presentation change was unnecessary and doesn’t add anything to the experience. If anything it makes it look as if I have far less articles than I actually do and would seem to discourage scrolling through many of them which is part of the reason I have your application/service.

The only thing missing is being able to sort to all untagged articles. I used to use this feature a lot...please add it again. :)

My #1 ask is to add more built in premium site logins. How is there not a WSJ login? At best the WSJ manual login works a day for me, so I am constantly leaving the app to read articles. Other than that, great app and I like the recent improvements.

Easy. Helpful. Beautifully streamlined across platforms & devices. Love the new reading voice. Please bring back the ability to track text of an article while it’s being read by app. Also, PDF support for reading would be amazing!

Overall a great update and app but my highlights from saved articles are now missing.

A couple weeks ago, I switched back to Pocket from Instapaper after a few years use of the service, and ultimately subscribed to Pocket Premium bc I’ve needed a little help with tags, and bc dark mode. Plus, supporting Mozilla is tops. I can’t say enough how happy I am with the most recent update. I had wanted a darker dark mode, and sleeker design that helped me get around faster. I had no idea I wanted the text to speech audio narration, but it very quickly became my favorite thing, and makes me firmly believe in my choice to subscribe. What a fantastic product.

Whenever there is an update, there are no actual release notes. Without release notes, users have no way of knowing what they are getting in each update. As such, there are any number of things that could be added that are of no added benefit to the end user. My one star rating will stand until the developers actually make release notes. “All the amazing features you’ll love” is not a release note. You might reply to this and say something along the lines of “Well we don’t need to post things like “moved button x 2 pixels to the right” and that might be true, but you owe it to your users to be transparent if you want to be a trustworthy developer. I refuse to use the Facebook and YouTube app for the same reason. This is an industry practice that needs to stop. Apple is beginning the process of cracking down, but here is your chance to be trend-setter. Take it. If nothing else, add a link to the detailed release notes.

Google is the last company I want having anything to do with Pocket and my reading material. I don’t remember ever linking Google to Pocket yet the option exists of “unlinking” the two. Even worse, when trying to unlink I just get an error message and they stay linked. Get rid of google integration for god’s sake!

I have used the pro version for years, and love it, so I don’t want to make this sound too negative - this has been a great app for a long time for me. Unfortunately, I’ve also come to rely on it as my main content “reading app”, and I’m finding that this new update is frustrating, as it brings few meaningful positive changes, and apparently quite a few annoying bugs that interfere with basic reading functions. I wish I had waited for future dot releases... On iPhone XS Max, the app locks up often and needs to be closed/restarted; selecting multiple entries in the list view, and then batch-adding tags to them doesn’t work at all (you have to go to full article and add these to one title at a time) I tend to tag stuff, so it’s a major pain; trying to add passwords to subscription sites is impossible (blank screen replaces actual content on the URL and password entry screen, with no keyboard, in an endless loop, forcing an app restart, again. There are many smaller annoyances which might be due to my personal preferences, but it’s hard to call them improvements (e.g., tags now take a LOT of space on the list screen, unnecessarily, allowing it to show by far fewer items than before). Yes, audio addition is sort of cool, but most of the people who really like listening to content (I do, when I drive), are probably already using something much better sounding, such as VoiceDream app, with an impressive collection of high-quality, international voices, ability to parse and read correctly PDFs and other files, etc. Pocket offers only the basic iOS voices (and changes them arbitrarily during reading of the same article), which are perfectly functional for quick notifications or reminders, but are not very suitable for sustained reads/listening, sounding too tinny and mechanical. Can’t envision listening to this during a two-hour trip... There is no option to add/purchase high quality alternative voices like there is in VoiceDream. I was looking forward to an “improved” version, but the previous version was great, and now I wish I hadn’t upgraded too quickly. I hope that at least some of these major misbehaviors will get fixed soon in the forthcoming dot releases, and then, hopefully, Pocket will go back to being its good old four star app again? Please? :)

Going to delete my Speaksy app because this upgrade puts it to shame. And the layout is just like Audible so it’s very familiar. Well done Pocket team!!

Great app and concept with a other greedy corporation behind the scenes Pay twice that and you get a service like Netflix which offers soooooo much more $10 a year sounds fair for what this does or just kept the ads, they’re not that intrusive, although they probably make more money from them anyway hence the steep subscription price

Love the new look and listening capabilities. Would really love to now see CarPlay and Android Auto support to go with the listening feature!

Fantastic. Clean, easy to use, fast. The new text to speech system works super well. Thank you for investing in this app.

What we really need is Pocket's recommendations to allow us to once and for all stop receiving content we absolutely don't want, (anything SPORTS, POLITICS, losing weight, (I'm skinny), etc.), but no matter how much I report these topics irrelevant they keep coming. We need to be able to permanently block entire websites too. C'mon Pocket.... you're behind the times and all the other news aggregators.
