If you have more podcasts in your queue than you could ever possibly listen to, get this app. Lots of tricks to maximize listening time like eliminating silences, speed up playback. Very easy interface. Syncs playback between devices. Share audio without recipient needing to have a player of any type. So happy my old standby player from 2010 still around and upgrading on the regular. What’s more, they’ve embraced the Apple Watch side of things which makes listening on the go even better. The best.

I like to change my podcast app every once and a while to see how the competition is doing, but every time I come back to Pocket Casts. The combo of a great interface, night mode, solid playback options, account sync, and overall amazing app stability/no crashes make this a superior podcast app.
jd2020's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 9/29/18 2:37 AM
Since iOS 11 playback in control center is unreliable. When paused, rewind/FFW controls don’t update shown position/time, but pressing play resumes at correct place. Playback on BT seems to drop, while music doesn’t. No improvement under iOS 12 beta and Official release. Considering going back to Overcast even though I like how PC is designed.

It does what Podcast apps do. Without good management features there isn’t much difference. With this one, you can’t swipe to delete nor select multiples and delete files from your device. You have to click multiple screens to get to delete a file. It’s retarded.
Raylon's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 9/27/18 4:51 PM
I’ve tried all the podcast apps. The Apple one used to be okay, but turned to garbage. Other apps are just stupid with unnecessary stuff that I don’t care about. This is a simple no frills podcast app that allows me to easily and simply track what I have listened to and what I need to listen to. Awesome lists you can filter a ton of ways with lots of other customization options. And no bloat. The only thing I can’t figure out how to do is clear the downloads list. Once stuff is downloaded I thought I could swipe to get rid of them but I ended up marking some shows as played instead. That’s my only complaint!

For the last year Pocket Casts has fallen behind Overcast. They haven’t updated or improved the UI. Most of all, they need to add volume control to their WatchOS 5 app. I used to love this app, but it’s running slower and slower lately and the Devs aren’t very responsive.
Yvvvvvvfsgh's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 9/23/18 2:30 AM
I’ve been a pocketcasts user for years but have been forced to switch to Overcast. Overcast is constantly adding new features. What pushed me over to the other side was the lack of offline downloads/playback on watchOS 5. Both Overcast and Apple’s stock podcast app support this already. I love the pocketcasts UI and organization and would love to keep using it but offline playback is a must with watchOS5 in 2018.

This podcast app has excellent features including a great way to find and add new podcasts. Not overpriced like other apps. Has a great interface with very useful settings. The only big drawback is no search function within the podcast. This feature is on most of the other apps out there.

This is by far top two best podcast apps in the App Store! It blows away Apple's own app. The “vocal boost” along with the “skip silence” is awesome. My only problem with the app is it does not currently offer password support for podcast like Apple Podcasts and Overcast, if they added that this would easily be a 5 star app. I would like to see the ability to download podcasts to Apple Watch so I don’t have to take my phone with me when I workout.

Since the Apple Podcast app update a year or whatever ago, I have hated it and was desperate for an alternative. App after app I finally found this and decided that a one-time fee of 3.99 would be nothing if i actually liked it. Purchased it and never looked back! Very easy to navigate and find new podcasts as well. The only negative thing I have to say is that I don’t like how you have to subscribe to listen to a podcast. It’s not a huge problem at all but would be nice if I could just check out an episode without having to

This was my favorite app for a long time but the glitches make it unbearable. I use this app to listen to podcasts, and audiobooks & seminars by using a custom podcast feed. Sometimes the app accepts the custom feed URL on the 1st try, sometimes on the 2nd, but lately not at all. Instead it says some BS about my internet connection. I’ve tried importing the feed in OPML format to no avail. So far I’ve tried 6 other other podcast apps and each finds the podcast instantly. I’m not confident they will fix the issue because as of 8/7/18 there’s been no response to my support email. Hopefully they fix it or I find an alternative app that has the trim silence feature. Pocket Casts is a great choice if you’re just listening to podcasts listed in the Discover index, which is quite limited compared to other apps.

I listen to a gross amount of podcasts. This app is far superior to the iOS option and any other free options I have tried. My one improvement request is to make the app work with password protected feeds. I subscribe to some casts where adfree feeds are hidden behind a password protected URL and pocket cast is the only app that those don’t want to work with. PLEASE FIX THIS!!! Thanks <3

Came from Podcast Addict on Android and imported my collection via OPML. -No option to multi select episodes to mark 'unplayed' or Played -To mark an episode as read, you need to tap the episode then three dots then Mark Played...(inconvenient) -Should have a toggle filter to hide played episodes (instead of listing 400+ episodes for example) -Should have "Mark older podcasts as played" from selecting an episode The app is definitely better than the Apple Podcast app but needs work to be easily utilized. The ideal audience based on the options is not for importing/power users. In my opinion not worth the $3.99 as it is now.

If you used Podcast Addict on Android, Pocket Cast is the next best thing. I’ve tried 3 or 4 podcast apps since switching over to an iPhone and they all sucked! Like, they are really bad. As much as Apple makes a great product and I love everything else about iPhone, somehow podcasts are the one area where a lot of the apps are terrible. No great way to customize, create playlists, sort by release date, modify listening speeds or skip silences... I finally hit the bullet and paid for Pocket Cast out of frustration and it paid off. This is a decent app and does just what I want. The final test will be in my car in a few minutes to see if I can use my car’s playback controls to skip around. If it works, I won’t be so sad about losing Podcast Addict. Three thumbs up.

I PURCHASED this app because it had a Windows 10 app as well. The Windows 10 app is free and I had assumed I could sync my progress between the two. Which you can if you’re willing to pay a monthly fee. No thanks. I would ask for a refund and just continue using the stock podcast app if I had known this.

A honest to goodness podcast app w/ the coveted chromecast button that works! If you don’t care about this feature it’s not worth paying for, however, the fact that I can listen to podcasts on the TV is something I deeply desired and I am pleased it works properly AND has more precise control of where you are in the podcast compared to the native app.

I’ve tried plenty of other podcast apps, and while I’ve enjoyed a couple of them, they pale in comparison to Pocket Casts. The others were always lacking one or two features that I needed/wanted. This app has everything I’ve been looking for — grid layout for podcasts, custom skip times, really customizable settings, and an extensive, up-to-date library to find new or old shows. I hardly ever shell out money on apps. ***This one is worth the $*** I’m very happy with this purchase and def recommend this one over the others I’ve tried.

I was excited to have the option to finally have a podcast app that syncs across all my different devices (iOS, Android, Windows, Browser). However, what was not made clear until I had purchased the app on my iPhone was that in order to use the app across the different devices I will have to PURCHASE it each time. So yes, $3.99 is reasonable for a one time download, but it’s $9.99 for web access, and another $3.99 for Android. I imagine the Mac OS will be another $9.99. This is blatantly false advertising because their main page that allows access to very little information says “If you like what you see, we’ll ask for you for $9. Just once.” They should really clarify that. I’ll be requesting a refund through the Apple store.

Fantastic features, regularly updated, simple to use. But the icing on the cake are the app update notes. :) I try other podcast apps every time there’s a major release just to see what’s out there but always keep coming back to this one. Once you’ve decided you’re a podcast listener it’s time to download Pocket Casts.
Maijstral's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 7/5/18 2:10 PM
I have been using Pocket Casts pretty much as long as it’s been around. I first got it on either IPhone 3 or 4, stuck with it when I went to android, and it was the first app I installed when I got my iPhone X. So I’m definitely a fan. At this point though, I’m looking to move on. The bloat that has apparently built up over the years has it so that running the app in the background uses roughly the same amount of batter as running Facebook with the screen on (roughly 5% per hour). When I’m looking at my phone at the end of the day and over half of my batter has been used by a single background app, that’s a real problem.

Simple interface, with all the important features. They made the syncing features that iTunes attempts to offer actually work. This perfectly replaces iTunes with better features and a cleaner interface. (Now there is no need for the clunky PC iTunes at all!)
mokann's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 7/30/18 2:55 AM
If you are just using this app on your phone with headphones, this app is perfect. Where it falls apart is if you try to do other stuff with it, namely chromecast/AirPlay and CarPlay. For CarPlay podcast normally won’t play at all until I take my phone out and press play in the app, and then you can pause it on the car screen but if you want it to play again you have to get your phone out again. You have to select a episode multiple times before it will play, again if it plays at all. For Casting/AirPlay you can not control the volume from your phone. Also if you finish an episode it will not play the next episode in the playlist and it will reset you progress on the episode you were just listening to where it was when you started casting. Same with if you disconnect from casting, it’ll reset your progress. I would gladly come back to this app if they improve their support for CarPlay and casting because the app it self is awesome. I love how you can set auto download setting for individual podcasts, as well as auto queuing for individual podcasts letting you automatically add episodes to the top of the playlist or the bottom, and the auto-cleanup feature, which will only keep as many episodes as you specify for each individual podcast, is awesome. All in all I wish I could keep using this app but it just doesn’t work where I need it to, and that’s a huge shame.

Favoriting the best episodes, syncing them up with my PC through the website, and everything else about this app is great, with the sorting options especially. HOWEVER, the Apple CarPlay app does NOT keep the same sorting order (newest first/oldest first) along with episodes that are marked as played. I need to scroll through the 40 episodes I've listened to every day to get to the unlistened episodes to play them... While driving. Easy fix though, please keep the same selection options as the app in Carplay!!!

Podcasts are a part of my everyday routine. Since last week or so, the app completely stopped downloading new episodes both on mobile and wifi. It streams fine, just doesn’t save what it downloads. Me and my wife have Google smart speakers in our home and we love them, my wife has the Pixel XL 2 and I have an iPhone X. She doesn’t have any issues casting from her phone. Unfortunately this app doesn’t work very well with these devices for my iPhone. I cast from Spotify and other apps with no issues, this app doesn’t connect and sits in “Buffering...” until the app force closes. I am able to listen with other Bluetooth headphones/devices with no issues. I love the interface and it’s honestly so much better than the stock app. I’m giving two stars, not being able to listen around my home is a deal breaker. I hope the devs get this app fixed and I can listen on my Google devices or I’ll be removing this app and finding something else that works for me.

I am a big podcast listener. Every day, I listen to podcasts during my work commute. I also listen while doing regular household chores. The ability to listen to my podcasts just how I want to makes this app outstanding in my book. I can start episodes automatically skipping the beginning and speed up playback so I get through the episodes faster. The last thing I particularly want to commend the authors for is their integration with my password manager (1Password) when signing into the app. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just got compromised by this app today. I was “signed out” and they asked for my password. I guessed and gave them an old password before going to my password manager. Old, wrong password worked. Minutes later I get an email with the (wrong) password I entered in the subject line and they were extorting me for $1,000. ShiftJelly doesn’t have a support team. Their website claims they are a small company, and they don’t have a formal support team. I submitted a “feedback” ticket, but they were silent in responding. The app never updates. I suspect that the app has a vulnerability that is being actively exploited because it uses a library with known vulnerability. That’s just a guess though. Don’t use this!! It’s abandonware. It’s a shame, really. It was a great podcasting app.

I love this app. It has pretty much everything you could ever want in a podcasting app. The one feature I wish the app had would be the ability to listen to episodes of a podcast without having to subscribe to it. If I want to stream a single episode of a podcast I have to subscribe and then unsubscribe, an act that makes this more complex than it should be. Other than great amazing! The developer has a history of addressing user concerns so I hope they can address this.
S Steps's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 7/21/18 7:11 PM
Cons: No "playlists", just filters. And don't treat them the same or you'll be frustrated. For example, you're listening and you decide you want to hear a particular episode later. You hit the skip button. But after the new episode plays, it goes right back to the one you previously skipped. Swiping does different things in different, but similar looking contexts. From left to right in now playing, you have episode description, player, queue. You swipe between them. Now go look at a filter. Sure looks like a queue doesn't it? But don't swipe because it will mark the episode played, remove it from the list, and (depending on your settings) delete it. With no undo button and no concept of a trash can, good luck figuring out what episode you just prevented yourself from hearing. Overcast at least has a trash can. All iPhone podcast apps are inferior to Podcast Addict on Android.
andrew.conkling's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 7/2/18 3:18 PM
I had been using Overcast with good satisfaction until recently, when it showed some fraying at the edges. Some friends suggested Pocket Casts so I checked it out: It’s really easy to move around through the app, to access podcast settings and things quickly. A lot of care has gone into the design. (The Apple Watch app deserves a special shout out here.) The Up Next feature is a bit more fiddly than Overcast’s priority podcasts but it works well to keep up with favorite podcasts first and those that “expire” (like news or daily shows). This is almost perfect, short of playing by podcast order. The only thing I’d like to see is an available sorting by podcast order. Ordering podcasts in the “grid” screen should be available to play podcasts in an episode filter in that order. (Currently you can only play by date, from oldest or newest.) That one setting would enable me to listen to favorites first which is the only thing I can’t quite do right now.

I swapped out from an Android to iPhone almost a year ago. I used and loved Podcast Addict but it's unfortunately not on iOS. I've been trying ever podcast app I read about, Stitcher, Pod Bean, Overcast, the native app. I just couldn't find one that I liked. Then along came Pocket Casts. The interface is very similar to Podcast Addict, a little watered down, but similar. It's easy to use, add episodes to the current playlist, and I was able to transfer my podcast list from my Android to Pocket Casts via OPML file. I do enjoy the 'Stat' tracker it has, showing how much time you've saved by speeding up playback or skipping intros. There are a few things I would change though. Podcast Addict has a search feature that allows you to search a podcasts episodes list for keywords. It's a nice feature I wouldn't mind seeing on Pocket Casts. Also the way each podcasts episode list is organized is a little strange. I don't like that it separates the played episodes from the not played ones. I would like it better if they just stayed in order of newest to oldest and just greying out the played ones. If these features were to appear it would be a six stars all the way for me!

The internet connection is fine on both devices and I have no problems with any other apps. Tried it with and without WiFi on both phones. My guess is they’ve turned off the servers for this app. Don’t waste your money. Should be pulled from the App Store.
dragon813gt's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 7/16/18 9:26 PM
I’m rating it two stars because there’s no simple way to delete an episode. You can’t swipe to delete like you should be able to. I don’t understand why no one has developed a podcast app like the old Apple one. Before they screwed it up it was easy and efficient to use. Some of us want exactly what it used to offer. Paying money for an app and then finding out there’s no way to delete single episodes is ridiculous. Such a simple feature should be included and it’s one I didn’t think would ever be omitted. I’m being generous w/ two stars because the lack of this feature warrants a zero star review since a basic function isn’t available.

Great app. Intuitive. My search for a great podcast player is over. And this developer writes profoundly thoughtful release notes on updates - would that Facebook and the other giants ever made the effort... 😊

I listen to a LOT of podcasts. I’m a librarian, who, every day repairs, labels, and shelves books. In other words, I have a lot of time to listen to new podcasts. Pocket Casts provides a BEAUTIFUL app layout that makes listening to new (and my favorite) podcasts easy and efficient. Old podcasts that are no longer in Apple’s podcasts, PC has them. It’s such a wonderful app and I use it almost all day, everyday. Perfect for an iPhone X or iPad mini (I use both). Thank you for your support on the app, and I look forward to new things you plan on adding!

I ADVISE YOU TO SHOP FOR ANOTHER APP. Like many users of this app, I bought this app for its support for GoogleCast. This allowed me to wirelessly stream any video podcasts from this app to SmartTV. However, this app stopped that feature. Why??? GoogleCast has been adding new features, new security updates and bug fixes. That’s good news for SmartTV owners. But the developer of this app does not seem to care about updating it to continually make it work with GoogleCast on SmartTVs. Just take a look at many other similar iOS and Android apps that also support GoogleCast. Example: YouTube app. I have absolutely no issue streaming videos from YouTube app on my iPhone to SmartTV using the latest GoogleCast. Important point is the developer does not even have to make any code changes to support the latest GoogleCast which is usually backward compatible with previous versions anyways. Any breaking change is announced by Google months in advance to these app developers. Well, it seems like this app developer simply does not care!!

I really wanted to love this app. And I do like it. Overall I think the ecosystem is better than iTunes + Podcasts app. I always prefer single-purpose apps as opposed to a catch-all like iTunes. But Pocket Casts has a syncing issue, where if I listen to a podcast on my iPhone, the position does not update on my Mac. Sometimes it works (maybe 30% of the time?). The developer knows about the issue and I’ll be happy to update my review when it’s fixed.

I have been using Pocket Casts for a while now and have been generally pleased with the experience. One major issue I have found was when I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Before deleting, I had gone to Settings>Account>Sync Now. I had hoped this would sync all my listening data to my account, primarily the played and unplayed episodes of my 32 podcasts. When I reinstalled the app and signed in, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that it hadn't worked. Each show listed every episode as played except the most recent episode in each podcast! I am disappointed, but maybe I misinterpreted what the sync button is designed to do. I would appreciate some feedback or some possible solution so I don't have to go back through almost 2000 episodes of content just to mark all the ones that are played and not played.
Buckeye1964's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 6/8/18 10:47 PM
While this app has probably the best interface of all the casting apps, you CANNOT sync your progress across devices without purchasing a separate license like you can with Apple’s Podcast app. If I had known this before, I probably would not have purchased this app.

I have just started using Pocket Casts, and I am very happy with it! Podcasts are a big part of my life, and Pocket Casts males it easy to organize all my many subscriptions. The BIG feature that is so important it takes up one whole star: it doesn't show my played episodes. I follow several podcasts that are narrative and are best listened to in order, and I cannot see what episode I last listened to. I like everything except this about this player!

Let me start by saying, I absolutely love this app. The layout, design, and everything about it works perfectly and I absolutely love how it integrates with my Sonos system. I would absolutely recommend this app to anyone that wants a better podcasting app in the one built into the phone, with only one real downside. With Apple announcing a podcast app for the Apple Watch. I would love to see this app expand their Apple Watch app and let me download podcasts to listen off-line. If I could listen to my Pocket Casts off-line on my Apple Watch while I run, this app would be the absolute best app in the world!

I use chromecast audio devices around my house and pocket casts was always really flakey with which devices it found. The latest update has fixed that, so this is the ultimate podcast app for me now. Syncing across devices, silence trimming, chromecast and car play in a beautifully designed app, it ticks every box for me.
First time runner.'s Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 6/3/18 6:18 PM
I tried a few different apps for podcasts after the default Apple one went to absolute crap. This one has good design, and I love that you can trim silence and play at faster speeds. I’d up my rating if these issues were addressed: - The “download all” button doesn’t work at all. - You can’t download an episode or even see a list of episodes for a podcast without subscribing to it. Additionally, if you unsubscribe, it will delete all episodes you have saved, which is really inconvenient. - It marks episodes played when you haven’t played them at all. This makes it hard to see what’s going on when you subscribe to a new podcast. - New episodes don’t always download automatically. It’s annoying because it waits until you open the app, meaning that sometimes it can be a bit of a wait before download. - You can’t organize your subscribe podcast list. This isn’t all that important, but it would be a nice feature.

Here’s the deal. This app is beautiful, it’s easy to use, and it hardly EVER has technical issues. I haven’t had an issue with Pocket Casts since I started using it a few years ago. And the funny stats on how long you’ve listened is awesome too. Definitely 100% recommend over any other single podcasting app
Timbo907's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 6/27/18 8:34 PM
It would be incredibly useful to be able to search say “mickey mouse” and be able to see all episodes that mention “Mickey mouse” and listen to an individual episode. Currently frustrated that I have to subscribe to a podcast before I can merely view the episodes. I still cannot search or filter through the episodes.

Nice interface, and with the newly-added options to auto download only on wifi and to warn before using cellular data, I can have my podcasts set to auto-download without worrying about wasting data every time I am out of wifi range and still want to stream an occasional podcast. The developer fixed what for me became a fatal problem with the app design. I’m glad to be able to use this app again for my podcasts!
jbond024's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 6/25/18 4:48 PM
For those of you still using the stock Apple podcast app, let me tell you the three big things that will keep my locked in with pocket casts. I’ve listened to 16 DAYS of podcasts since I picked up my iPhone 7 back in 2016 so I think I can give a fair review here. 1. Silence removal, intro skipping and precise speed controls. When you listen to a large quantity of podcasts these features save you a lot of time. While Apple podcast allows speed control, it goes 1x all the way to 1.5 which are find too fast. I keep my pocket cast at 1.3 2. It works with my in car forward and back buttons to skip forward and back. This is probably the single biggest thing preventing me from ever using the stock app. With Pocket cast My 2013 VW skips forward by 45 seconds when I hit the “skip forward” in car button. Apple podcast app does not do anything when I hit the in car button. The ability to skip ads when driving is absolutely a must have because it’s probably where I listen the most. 3. Faster refresh rate - I find pocketcast pulls the latest streams faster than the stock app. If you are even a moderately frequent podcast listener this is the most obvious purchase I can think of. I think by pure run time this is probably the most frequently used app on my phone, it’s basically always running. 10/10 great Dev, great app.

As a ravid podcast listener this app is simply just a gamechanger. Beautiful, intuitive and lovely supported, switching from Android to iOS I was worried about having to massively reset all my podcasts, nope - Pocketcasts had me covered. Love you guys, keep up the great work! One suggestion: on Apple Watch app I find myself using the built in audio app more than Pocketcasts while listening to podcasts to use the wheel to control and adjust audio, could you add that to the Pocketcast Watch app as well?

I love this app, and for my personal use, it is superior to Apple Podcasts in all ways. Unfortunately, my friends and I share podcasts a great deal, and the share function in this app does not allow for effective sharing. I think it would be great if sharing could be customized to offer different types of shares. For example, one could share an Apple Podcasts link, a link to the podcast’s site, etc., their choice. I don’t know if all of that is available in the metadata, but if it is, why not use it?

My favorite podcast app, and I have tried them all. Love the act that it is on every operating system, supports everything, and does a great job trimming out the dead air and intros to get me listening fast. Only improvement I would like is the ability to browse and add a single episode of a pod without subscribing to a show. It would also be nice if the plus button to add was still there when you are inside your filters.

When I first open the app in the morning on that way to the gym, there is no way to tell what is in the queue to be played next. I have to start playing a random podcast in order to have access to that list. It takes many steps to build the playlist I want at the gym each morning. 1. Give me access to the playing queue apart from a playing podcast 2. Give me the option for manual sort on playlists. Make that a third option HANDOFF Handoff allows me to use the same app on my iPad, iMac and iPhone. When I am playing a podcast on my iPhone I like to switch to my iPad and keep playing once in the office. Instead of opening the pocketcast app that is on my iPad, it opens safari to the pocketcast website on my iPad. This is not the correct operation. Pocketcast on all my devices need to be able to accept handoff. Additionally, as I play a podcast on my iPhone, and I stop and want to hand off to my iPad, the iPad does not have an updated time. So I may have 15 minutes left on the podcast on my iPhone, but the iPad things I have 32 minutes left This is so close to the best. Just a little more. Hopefully the next chapter will give us that

Only recently have I dived into the world that is podcasts and I’ve loved it. I started off on the stock iOS App (free), moved to Castbox (free), and now I’m here. Pocket Casts is aesthetically pleasing and allows viewing of most, if not all, podcasts. A list of pros and cons below: Pros: Beautiful and simplistic design. Trim Silence feature is great. Ability to create playlists with certain characteristics is useful at times. Cons: Sync across devices (like my iPad) is shotty and only works some of the time. You have to subscribe to a channel in order to view episodes and episode descriptions. No ‘number of episodes’ on each channel like in Castbox. No in channel search like in Castbox. Every time I subscribe to a channel, the podcast episodes are majority marked as “played”, so I have to load all episodes and then mark them as “unplayed”. The app is good but I keep going back to Castbox because of these cons.

Pros include: (1) notifications and customization of same is phenomenal; (2) listening stats are next-level and demonstrate extraordinary attention to detail; and (3) dark theme and icon settings are most welcome. I had a list of cons, all of which stemmed from a lack of understanding on my part: (A) list by episode with option to sort by date (solved with customizable lists that offer myriad options above and beyond anything I have seen); (B) add to play next or add to up next without downloading (solved once I learned that playback settings must be set to stream by default); and (C) play icon to the left of download icon so that users can engage the function without having to tap and hold (solved when stream by default was selected). Pocket Casts leaves the stock Podcasts app light years behind (in so many ways including its UI, customization, player options, and device cache management), providing a seamless user experience. Then there’s the fact that it exists in near-perfect form on Android and iOS and has online support for user profiles and preferences that transfer between devices. It seems like a contradiction, but here you get the best of platform support and agnosticism.

tom5304's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 5/26/18 8:22 PM
I just gave Castro a good trial, and though it’s really good, it can’t beat PocketCasts. PocketCasts is still the simplest, easiest podcast player I’ve used. Overcast doesn’t even work for me; way too buggy. Apple’s Podcast app is too limited and quirky (it won’t let you download a podcast episode over 140mb, etc.) I’m not bothered (yet) about PocketCasts being sold, although I can’t see why anyone would buy it unless they were going to change it to serve their own interests. Seems like simple common sense. But I’ll keep an open mind about the sale and take things as they come. I’ll add a fifth star when PocketCasts adds support for password protected podcasts, which I’m betting is just around the corner, since it helps podcasters monetize their podcasts.
noalarms's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 5/24/18 6:04 PM

lucahimself's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 5/24/18 3:16 PM
This would be a great app, except that when I choose a larger system font, the app does not change the font it uses to display the list of podcasts. So I can't use it in the car, where I do not always have my reading glasses.
CptnJackSpearow's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 5/24/18 1:17 AM
If it just had better chromecast support. Since apple’s podcasting app doesn’t support chromecast, I really think any 3rd party app worth its salt (or at least worth 4 bucks) should provide adequate chromecast support to justify paying for it over the standard app. That’s the reason I paid for it and I did like it when it was working, very clean and organized, none of the cluttered and bloated feel of other cast apps. Unfortunately, the chromecast play was always spotty, often taking multiple tries to connect/play, jumping back to the beginning when pausing, playing, or disconnecting to play on headphones. Recently, it has stopped working altogether. All podcasts just say buffering when trying to cast them, it happens on my SO’s app as well so I know it’s not my phone. Other casting apps work just fine so the app has to be the culprit. At this point I’m looking for a better option, gonna save this on the phone though and hope it gets fixed so I can go back to my otherwise favorite app.

I think it’s strange that you can’t just listen to an episode of a podcast without subscribing first. There is also no way to search for specific episodes of a podcast, which I’ve found to be annoying when looking for an episode among 200 episodes. I guess this app might be better for users who only plan to subscribe and listen to entire series, rather than someone listening to interview-style podcasts with specific episodes.

Skipping a set amount of each podcast, and being able to have my favorites in an online archive are the highlights. Playback speed introduces noise no matter how slow or fast, and the auto trim doesn’t work consistently. Have to use the up next playlist instead of just creating one of my own that automatically sorts things as I want them.

I’ve been using the app since 2015. Before this app, I never cared for podcasts. Using this app has brought a whole new world of entertainment. ShiftJelly is one of my favorite developers. However, He sold it to NPR. While the developer says nothing will happen to pocket casts and that’ll it get better in the months to come, we’ve heard that from developers who sold their company. Pinterest bought Fleksy and almost killed it. Microsoft bought Wunderlist which is on life support, and SwiftKey which got bloated and Sunrise which was by far the best calendar app and killed it with no feature parity. I hope this app doesn’t go the way of those. I want these huge companies to stop destroying apps and wish the best for the future of Pocket Casts.

Cannot create a playlist with the podcasts you want to listen to. Like one for business, one for school, one for fun. This is certainly not worth $4

I’ve had pocket cast for a year and upon downloading it and switching over my podcast player to pcast, my life was changed forever. It allowed me to optimize and maximize my podcast game. I’ve reached out to them before about a suggestion about seeing the episodes you’ve played, and they implemented it (albeit I’m sure it wasn’t directly bc of my suggestion). I love the stats because it makes me feel like I’ve been mentally productive, listening to and absorbing views and opinions of intelligent people. It is so well-organized and aesthetically pleasing. The podcasts you’re subscribed to are displayed via their cover picture, the list of episodes you’ve downloaded and new releases are very easy to see and navigate. I am a loyal, paying customer. 👍

For some reason pocket casts is killing my battery more than Facebook. I have an iPhone X on iOS 11.3 and I download the podcasts instead of streaming. So I can’t understand why it’s smashing my battery so hard. I love this app, not sure if its my phone cuz I did a reset as well. Or if it’s 11.3 but either way it’s destroying my battery life.

I would like it better if they just stayed in order of newest to oldest and just greying out there played ones. If these features were to appear it would be five stars all the way for me!
Levets.us's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 4/30/18 4:16 AM
Not sure it’s fair to mark an episode as completed if you decided to skip it instead. Feeling guilty every time I swipe left. Would really appreciate a skip/delete option if swiped the other side.

Great app, use it all the time for my podcasts at home and in the car. Everything syncs with my account. Also bonus it supports video rss which makes it great for all the GiantBomb video content I consume. It also works great with the web app.
dvermaak01's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 4/29/18 3:18 AM
A solid app. But I have some frustrations With it. In my opinion the ability to discover new podcasts is extremely poor on this app. 1. When checking out a new podcast, the app won't allow you to browse previous episodes without subscribing to that podcast. Why? 2. I'd like the ability to search for episodes as well. For instance, if I search for "Bill Burr", I'll see not just his own podcast, but but episodes of other podcasts that he's been on as well. 3. And how about a search feature! One of the podcasts I'm subscribed to has thousands of episodes. If I want to find a specific episode, I have to scroll though all the episodes and go solely off the episodes title.

update 2: (April 2018)-I’m now over a year into Casts, it’s by far the best podcast app (it is a 100% perfect app, and i’ve never said that about any app). I’ve tried several paid podcast apps. One beautiful, amazing feature I just discovered recently: on my cheapo Bluetooth shower speaker (and Bluetooth audio in my car) when you Press the physical track forward/back buttons, Casts bumps your audio + or -15s (or whatever you have app set to)!!! this is amazing and exactly what I was looking for. I was always annoyed how other podcast apps (including the atrocious Apple built in one) would change the podcast playing whenever you hit forward/back track , which is totally pointless and useless. Casts handled this perfectly and does exactly what is logical and reasonable for physically pressing those buttons. Thanks again love this app. Update: I’ve been using podcasts app for a little over a month, and it is still absolutely flawless, it does exactly what I want , perfectly. Please do not waste any time with free apps or anything else, by this app if you listen to podcasts. Ditch the iOS trash built-in podcasts app. (Apple should be ashamed of themselves) Thank you, for writing a fast, clean, easy to use podcast app that properly works with apples built in podcast controls (Ie control center widget, lock screen, etc. on iOS 11). For some reason I foolishly thought that Apple only allowed it’s default/built in podcast app, to access Apple podcast content (ie the shows). So I never thought to find a third-party podcast. On iOS 10 I thought the Apple podcast app was a little awkward but worked fine for what I needed (accessing and the streaming the daily updated shows from podcasts I listen to, each day). iOS 11 podcast app was updated and is simply atrocious, and frankly is trash interface and usability wise. It is super difficult to navigate, near impossible to get to a shows latest episode (or even find out/confirm if the days episode has been published yet) and actions that required one or two taps on the ios10 podcast app, now require 3 to 6 space on the iOS 11 podcast app. It’s frankly trash in typical apple doesn’t listen to any feedback from users, simply search the web you’ll see many users of taking the time to write long and detailed posts about how horrible the podcast iOS 11 app is. Regardless of iOS 11 trash podcast app, that update led me to this app and I’m super happy with it! it was well worth the four dollars. Thanks!

I bought almost Podcasts apps. I think Pocket Casts is the best for me: 1. Support the video podcasts, Castro cannot; 2. Backstage is very stable，I can subscribe all of my favorite podcasts，but cannot subscribe the “Exponent” in the Apple Podcasts. 3. Sometimes castro cannot refresh the playlist. Keep going, thanks all you guys’

Update: it's nice to see a developer respond to feedback. This is one of my first page apps. I recently switched from downcast; I was looking for something that handled playlists better than that application does. One of my issues with is fact that I really don't need playlists, I want to order my podcasts on the fly, enter Pocket Casts "Up Next" feature. This feature makes it extremely simple to add a podcast to listen to next, without having to subscribe to said podcast. I would recommend Pocket Casts, based on the "Up Next" feature alone. A couple of suggestions: I'd like to see a list of available podcasts when discovering new podcasts. Right now you have to subscribe to see a full list. Also, the ability to apply global settings to all new podcasts is a bit hidden under the name "Storage & Data Use" and doesn't include all settings you can make to individual podcasts. That said, I quickly deleted Downcast from my iPhone after just a week of using Pocket Casts. Great job.

This app is literally the best podcast app available on the iOS App Store! The default podcast app is horrible, and everything else costs a $10+ subscription. This app is great! Almost perfect! What would make it perfect would be playlists. I think that this was a feature on the Android version of the app, so I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t in the iOS version. Honestly, if you added playlists I couldn’t possibly think of a reason to rate this less than 5 stars. But for now I’ll leave it at 4 in hopes that playlists would be added! Filters are great, but that’s not really what I want. I want the ability to create something for my constant driving routes. Just select this and that episode and add them to a playlist. The “Play Next” function is essentially this, but not exactly what I’m looking for.
Skylar C. 's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 4/19/18 4:20 AM
I wish I could view and listen to a podcasts recent episodes without subscribing to the podcast! Also, if you play a podcast after reading its description you have to minimize the description and tap the player on the bottom of the app to gain access to the playback controls. This app is so close to being perfect!

yungstud's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 4/16/18 4:26 PM
This app does a few things right. I like the trim silence. I like the playlist creation. And I like how easy the app is to use overall. Unfortunately, the good qualities stop there. Many of the features I was looking for when I was trying to find a replacement podcast app were those that were in the Apple podcast app before they did the big update that basically ruined it. The first major one was being able to have the app automatically download new episodes without having to open it. The second was easily being able to continue playing the next downloaded episode after listening to the first one. This app sort of handles the second one, although I have to go out of my way to “play all,” but lacks on the first. There are some other good features I’ve seen in other apps that this one lacks, such as the ability to prioritize podcasts within playlists. This app is kind of weird the way it treats streaming or downloading episodes. It’s all or nothing with that setting which means if it’s set to download, you have to manually select each individual episode and tell it to download or stream if you forgot to download new ones before you left WiFi. All these things are kind of minor compared to the one extremely glaring issue with adding new podcasts. When you go to look at new podcasts to add, trying to decide if you want to subscribe to them, you can’t see episode titles or descriptions before subscribing to give you an idea of what the episodes are about. Before you subscribe, you only get to read the two or three sentence description of the podcast. I have found this extremely annoying and it leads me to use other apps for research. I have to say that there are better apps out there that are free and aren’t so frustrating. I may go back to one of them.

Make sure to get the web version/Mac app as well, because this is the only podcast app you’ll ever need! I’m so happy that it supports the Chromecast. I finally had it with Apple Podcasts after the 11.3 iOS update. My playlist had disappeared and I didn’t seem to be able to build a new one. It was the last straw. I looked into other podcatchers, but I didn’t want to deal with ads. So I splurged on Pocket Casts, and I’m so glad I did. All my shows are available, the settings are better than I ever dreamed, and the playlist management is the best. No looking back. Apple Podcasts is dead to me. Pocket Casts is the best.

Love the concept, but incredibly, incredibly buggy. Lots of areas with poorly thought-out UX, crashes, and basically non-functional if you try to use it with Google Home/Google Cast devices. (Loses track of where you are in the podcast, won't show all cast devices or sometimes any, hard to set up, etc) I contacted the developer and they weren't interested in addressing any of that.
obscurecountryfolk's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 4/1/18 10:27 PM
What a lovely app you've built! It works exceptionally well at handling the numerous series I partake in. I have only one issue; occasionally while an episode is playing, the progress bar on the lockscreen widget won't continue. It won't show the correct minute I'm currently listening to nor will the progress line move. A simple work around is pressing pause then play, but it'd be nice if I didn't need a workaround. My suggestions/requests for a "better" user experience have likely been considered before, but I've yet to see them implemented.. 1. I'd like to be able to mass-delete downloaded episodes. It's simply too tiresome to have to select an episode and tap three times to delete it. Please add a simple trash can icon in the "Downloads" section which will enable selecting of multiple episodes. 2. Please implement more sorting techniques within each series. Currently the options are "old to new" and "new to old." I'd like to see the ability to sort by episode temporal length "shortest to longest" and "longest to shortest" as well as by file size "largest to smallest" and "smallest to largest." 3. Episode Search! The tool in the main interface which allows one to search for each show is handy, but I'd like to see a per-show episode search tool. Perhaps a "Search for Episodes" option could be placed amidst each show's tri-dot overflow key functions. 4. Add Offline Mode. Although there is a downloads list, it can difficult to scroll through such a long list. Perhaps a "Google Play Music"-esque switch in the menu could be enabled so that when viewing a series, only downloaded episodes would be shown. 5. Colour adaptive show badges, please! This is somewhat minute, but having every shows episode-count flag be red is less aesthetically pleasing than flags that are able to match with the most prominent colour of the series' cover art. Whew! That's a lot, and I understand and accept that it may take a while for the team to implement all of these features (if they appeal to the team at all). I am thankful, however, for your commitment to building a spectacular podcast app. Thanks!

This is my favorite podcast app. I really wish it had better navigation of episodes. Especially with podcasts with a lot of episodes when you want to sort “oldest to newest” it doesn’t load the first one, just previous 10 or so. It’s very inconvenient if you want to listen from the start.

If I was on Android I imagine I’d keep using it. I can no longer cast to my vizio with built in chrome cast. I swear I could before. It can cast to my bedroom just fine. After an episode download it no longer shows up in the feed for that podcast. I have to go find it in downloads. Search works if you know the exact title your looking for, but I’m constantly going to the Apple podcast app to search then listen on this. That was originally to just give it a try, now it’s just a pain.

I downloaded this from being dissatisfied with a handful of free podcast apps. A friend using Android recommended it and that it was worth the $$$. I basically still have this app bc I already paid for it but I’m still just as dissatisfied with it but tired of looking. (The #1 feature I’m looking for was to auto-queue podcast episodes to stream based on the last episode I listened to. Not the oldest or newest, most of my podcasts I’m in the middle and want to listen to them sequentially. This app does not do that but gives me some ok features.) Pros: - CarPlay app - Can choose between download or streaming with several swipes - Decent looking interface Cons: - Does not auto queue episodes based on listening history (like all apps I’ve tried) - Confusing switching between Download vs Stream vs Up Next vs “Listened To (assumes you have)” vs “Haven’t listened to but not in my queue” vs Download queue or Stream queue? - Inconsistent queues between CarPlay and iOS app (pls just continue playing the last episode?) I’ve figured out a system to use this but still think I’m not using it as intended. An app that needs a video tutorial is prob doing it wrong but a video tutorial would be better than nothing.

I’m usually fine whenever Apple updates their UI for their own apps every yearly update, but the latest Podcasts app is awful! Clunky and tedious to use, and I’m a tech savvy youth who knows what I’m doing, but even still. Horrible. Sooo, I needed a replacement. “Overcast” is really good, but this “Pocket Casts” is near perfect! Clean and customizable user interface. If you listen to a lot of podcasts, this is worth buying for! Even if Apple fixes their own app for the next iOS update, I’ll be sticking with this one.

tubedogg's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 3/16/18 1:12 AM
I really like it. And it doesn't crash like Apple Podcasts does, so it has that going for it. That said there are a few things I'd like to see added/tweaked: - Ability to view and download a podcast's episodes without subscribing. - In podcast view, grouping by season for those podcasts that support it (see Apple Podcasts app), and grouping by year for those that don't. (Filter lists already group by year, so it's unclear why the view of a single podcast doesn't.) - A download queue that is actually a queue instead of the app trying to download every single queued episode simultaneously. Have a user-defined limit of simultaneous downloads, i.e. 2 or 3. - Add ability to select all and then deselect a few instead of select all being an on/off switch. Along these lines, have a "and future subscriptions" option for podcast filtering. The idea being, I want it to apply to this selected list plus automatically to any podcasts I subscribe to in the future. This option should be a toggle.

Yowzoe's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/5/18 11:22 AM
Pocket Casts is more frustrating the longer I use it. It continues to turn on randomly at night, which is a real drag if I forget to close the app. This is been happening for months (and I've let the developers know). Yet it has many features and the look that I prefer to other podcast apps. So I still hope. Here are the continuing issues at the developers seem to ignore from update to update: Now and then all the items in my playlist mysteriously disappear. It's very hard to sort the "Up Next" list, and the layout & usability just need re-vamping. It really takes too much effort to use this app. The "add to next" is just above the "play all from here", which is a design disaster that they should get a clue about. How many times do people accidentally put their finger on "play all from here" and delete their playlist? At the very least it should be a user option to configure. Months ago I could tap on my Bluetooth headset repeatedly to skip to the next podcast – this feature has been removed in the last several updates (I have checked with several Bluetooth headsets). I regularly lose my whole "Up Next" queue, for the umpteenth time, inexplicably. I have a 6s Plus in prime condition, and I don't have any of these kind of problems with other apps. Casts is just too frustrating, and the developers don't seem to care. I'm tired of waiting – the problems just multiply. To add insult to injury, their update changelog text is insipid cutesy stupidity that tells you nothing.

I found the iOS one a pain to use so I started looking for alternatives. After trying out a few free ones I decided to give pocket cast a try too, and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. It has some of the best features podcasts lovers enjoy - such as speed, silence trim, start from certain time for specific podcasts and volume boost that significantly improve podcast listening experience. The discover page is well designed to introduce new podcasts to listener. I also love the interface design, especially the subscribed podcasts page which allows me to view my podcasts in big grids, small grids or list (please learn from them Apple). And my absolute favorite feature of all is how well it syncs with Sonos! Before pocket cast listening to podcasts on Sonos is kinda a pain, but pocket cast has synchronized the progresses so well that I can just switch between playing on Sonos or my phone back and forth in an instance. Really appreciate the feature as a Sonos and podcast lover. However the system is not perfect yet. It’s still missing important search feature that allows users to search for episodes, which can be quite troublesome when I am just looking for one specific episode of a certain podcast. Moreover there is no universal podcast setting, meaning there’s no way to set the ordering of podcast or the initial seconds skipping without going through the setting of each podcast one by one. It will be great if the pocket cast team can look into these issues. But overall, it’s definitely the best podcast app I have used so far and it’s definitely worth every penny.
Cindyeo's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/3/18 12:52 PM
I was so frustrated with the Apple podcast app that I went in search of a better one and have been using this for about 2 months. But you cannot search out a specific episode of a podcast, and you do have to subscribe to a podcast to play a single episode. Now, that doesn’t mean you will automatically get every episode downloaded, you have to go in to each podcast after you subscribe to tell it to download. I also don’t like the fact that all back episodes are shown as played. And it’s really hard to go way back in time to find an old episode. I do like the fact that I can set up a downloaded and unplayed filter, so I go there when choosing something to listen to in the car. So I am still using both apps, depending on what I want to do.

Loved it until this version. Going to the discover menu gives me an internet connection error. Can’t subscribe to any new podcasts. Also, creating an account gives me a registration error. I’ll change my rating if they fix it, but until then I’ll switch back to the Apple podcast app

Glypto's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/22/18 5:03 PM
I hope the developers read this review. I use this app for several years and have loved it. It’s been my most used app. But very recently all I get is a lengthy red splash screen and then it crashes. Sometimes after many multiple attempts it may ultimately work, or not. I use it on my iPhone X. I hope you are getting the crash data. I would love a response from the developers. And I would be happy to answer any questions that might help you debug this issue. In the meantime I would not recommend this app to anyone. I will be happy to update to 5 stars once this is corrected.
Shammyet's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/22/18 1:59 AM
I don’t understand how the ratings are so high on this podcast. I bought it thinking it must offer something over overcast and I was wrong. It’s not user friendly at all. Personal opinion is it’s not better looking. It has some strange things like you can’t download episodes unless you subscribe. Its fails to download episodes and then you have to troubleshoot to listen. Don’t even get me started on the sync issues between devices. It’s just corky. Further more upsetting is I emailed the developers and no response after days. I could go up in rating but the lack of care from them is a major burn for me. Very disappointing. I really want to like this but, oh well.
AJrajrajr321947281's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/20/18 10:03 PM
The app is okay but it takes WAY to many clicks to play an episode and get to the screen where you can pause and fast forward. This is definitely not worth the money when you can get free apps that do the same thing.
davidreview's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/2/18 4:01 PM
Had to dock one star but other than the one issue it’s still one of my favorite players. All this time and this app has never added the ability to use audio effects WITHOUT downloading the episode first? I don’t download the episodes I listen to so being not being able to use those effects is a huge con. With the Android version having this feature for a long time now I’m surprised it’s not here yet. That’s the reason I use another podcast player. Because it allows those effects while steaming. If it added that feature this would be my go to player. Having said that this is one of the best podcast players around. That and with me using iOS and Android at times being able to use this on both platforms is another pro. That and the ability to watch video. Although I don’t use the video player as much it’s a nice touch.
LogicalApex's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/2/18 12:22 AM
Apple Podcasts has consistently run downhill. Every iteration has less and less features. I was recommended this app and I have to say I am very pleased with it. It has Sonos support, web version (extra $9 on time), and syncing all around. Great app and highly recommended. Keep up the great work developers 👍🏾
FutureDPT's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/16/18 6:49 PM
I love the app, but the discover feature is weak. I literally open up the apple podcast app every now and then to see what new podcasts that I’ve never heard of are worth a listen because the discover feature is so lacking in this app.
GoodGuyJimmy's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/16/18 12:52 AM
The only reason I got this app easy to cast the podcasts. Now that doesn’t work.
Mill2124's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/16/18 12:24 PM
That pretty much sums it up. This app is amazing. I was super pumped it was in the app store when I switched from Android. 2 e-props.
SouthMcMerlin's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/14/18 3:46 PM
I’ve had the app for a year and half now and I enjoy the heck out of it! How it looks, how it runs, the features, just everything! But in the new update I’m slightly bummed that in the previous version I could 3D Touch on iOS and mark as played from the app icon and now that has been removed and it has removed that simple yet greatly appreciated convenience. Please bring it back!!
Tad Davis's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/14/18 3:37 PM
This is the slickest podcast player I’ve found. The app is organized a little differently from most, and managing the “up next” queue looked daunting at first. The flexibility of the app means some extra effort starting out. But it only took a couple of days to get the hang of it, and now I have things exactly the way I want them. Comes with a watch app too, which is useful.
UrbanDude's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/14/18 2:36 AM
According to the app stats I’ve used it to listen to 180 days of podcasts, so it deserves my first app review: It’s great. 180 days = half a year without sleep. I can’t think of another app/service that’s brought more joy to my life. It’s intuitive, unobtrusive, and works 100% of the time, every time. Nothing is perfect, but this is close.
Nattttteeee's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/13/18 12:36 AM

Magicman_22's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 2/1/18 1:53 AM
Honestly, right now, you’re probably better off with the stock apple Podcast app. This app looks great, but is missing some stuff that’s so basic i have no idea how it was missed. One of which is they you must subscribe to a podcast to play an episode.... what? That doesn’t even make sense?? Second, it marks like all but the last 2 episodes of a podcast as “Played”, regardless of whether or not you actually have listened to them, which is really annoying if you want to go back into a podcast. The last thing, on the topic of going back into a podcast is that the organization is horrible. There is no seasons, no years, no nothing. It’s just a reverse chronological order list of the episodes. Does it look nice? Yeah, for sure, but it just misses some real basics that make it almost unusable for me, and definitely not better than the stock app :/ Has real promise, the design is amazing but it just doesn’t cut it right now
Marcerella1121's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/9/17 9:54 AM
I finally gave up on standard iPhone app for podcasts. Totally worth the few bucks to purchase this. Easy to search, organize and tracks podcasts. My favorite feature is the Trim Silence feature; definitely use this to minimize silences and save time!

capedape's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/8/17 12:12 AM
I've been listening to Podcasts since before the iPhone existed and have tried nearly all iOS podcasting apps. This app has a stellar interface and granular control over playlists and settings that others lack. It also can handle a lot of podcasts and its filter settings are fantastic. I also like the tile view which Overcast and others lack. I've tried thousands of apps as a developer and this is in my top 5. Seriously, great update.
HiGeoff's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/8/17 10:18 PM
[2017-1208] Just a quick update and an ask to make this great app even better. Would you be able to make Casts available as Alexa skill? For example, I have a filter with the latest episodes of my subscription and play them in the order of the last one added. It will be cool if I can ask Alexa to play that filter (set as my default filter) instead of reaching out to my phone and play. Sorry I’m just too lazy. But it’ll be cool right? :-) ——- Better than anything else, stitcher, rssradio etc.
capedape's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/6/17 7:55 PM
Since IOS 11 this app freezes for long periods of time on start. It often has to be closed and restarted when it freezes like this. It’s the only audio app I use that loses connection regularly whether I’m using Bluetooth earbuds or lightning cable earbuds. It’s beginning at the start of a podcast even when the podcast settings say start at five minutes. I’ve sent the devs email and got no response. Previous review: I've been listening to Podcasts since before the iPhone and have tried nearly all iOS podcasting apps. This app has a stellar interface and granular control that others lack. It also can handle a lot of podcasts and its filter settings are fantastic. I also like the tile view which Overcast and others lack. Downloaded after the most recent iOS update left the native podcast app unusable. I listen to podcasts constantly, so this is the most frequently used app on my phone. Tons of customization options I could not find elsewhere, so for me, it was well worth the money!

I’ve been a big fan of this app for years, and have been in love with its Chromecast feature of late. Today I went to cast an episode to my Home Mini and the Chromecast icon was gone. I still see the Airplay/Bluetooth one, but the not Chromecast one. Please add the feature back.

DevXZach's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/3/17 4:57 PM
I switched over to this app from the default Apple Podcasts app and it’s been a much better experience, especially since I listen to a mix of time-sensitive daily news podcasts as well as long-form podcasts. I love all of the customizations including organizing the library podcasts you listen to, easily modifying the play queue, automatically adding episodes to your queue when they become available, etc. Definitely get this app if you listen to podcasts regularly!
Come On Verizon's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/3/17 1:30 PM

TheMighyLeprachaun691's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/29/17 8:35 PM
Massive mistake buying this app. Yes, the UI is much better than that of the podcasts app at the time of my writing this. However, there is no search feature available for episodes which is a huge inconvenience. Any time you’re searching for an older episode of a certain podcast, you have to scroll through pages upon pages to find it (I’m now stuck using two podcast apps which is quite annoying). I contacted the company and they said they hope to have this feature in the future. In all honestly that’s one that should without question have been incorporated by now.
Poliscimonster's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/27/17 1:41 PM
Love the overall look and feel of the app. Have been looking for a snappier alternative to Downcast. Unfortunately, this is missing a number of more detailed sorting options for podcast episodes (like sorting by time, sorting by file size, etc.) and the ability to edit select items on a list (rather than do a “mark all as...” function). Additionally, would love the ability to select specific episodes from a list to delete (rather than mark as listened, and then have to “delete all” from a separate menu). In short, I want to love this, but I just don’t have enough additional functionality to make the switch worth it.

I just converted back to Apple from Android. I tried the built in podcast experience before spending money again and the Apple app is horrible. Bought this again and am loving it! App is the same as it was on Android and it rocks!
Most Giant Vanilla Bear's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/25/17 12:14 AM
This app is everything you want in a podcast app except one thing: playback. It’s playback is still superb, and better than almost every app but overcast. I like the ability to adjust speed by 0.1 and the trim silences feature. Organizing by release date and creating playlists is superb. The only thing is, overcast is just so perfect in its playback ability, and seamless trim silences feature that nothing can rival it. If you’re like me and use two podcast apps (one for Subscriptions and another for binging) then this one is great for the daily Subscriptions, but I wouldn’t recommend it for binging. Overcast is probably best for that.

I’d been looking for a better way to play my podcasts on my Sonos system. Casts exceeded my expectations. The automatic creation of a In Progress folder is what allows this app to fully integrate with Sonos.
Friendsfam's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/2/17 6:48 PM
I thought the built in podcasts app was fine. Then I tried Pocket Casts. There is absolutely no going back. This app is beautiful, has excellent features (I love the trim silence option!), and has really gotten me excited about podcasts again. I couldn’t ever put my finger on what it was about the built in app, but it was just non intuitive, a chore to use.
DJMashko's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/2/17 4:06 PM
I got this app because I wanted to listen to my podcasts on Sonos. This works great, it syncs my subscribed podcasts exactly how I wanted! Also I love all of the UI options, and especially the “new episodes section” since I listen to a lot of news podcasts.
Ryan Broom's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/2/17 12:15 AM
When I switched to iOS, I was relieved to find out that Pocket Casts is just as good on the iPhone. The swiping interface is intuitive and fits in well with the rest of the iPhone X UI. Everything is easy to use and it looks great. I’ve paid for it twice now and would gladly pay for it again. The stock podcast app is crippling and I even tried Overcast for a few days but I just don’t like it as much. I highly recommend PocketCasts if you’re an avid podcast listener. *One complaint: Increasing the playback speed seems to cause distortion. It’s not my speaker or headphones and only happens on iOS. This is the only major problem I have & I hope they address this soon.
Redleaf397's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/17/17 7:04 AM
Recently when playing a podcast it will skip or repeat, it's not the player, it seems to be the content because you can go back to the same spots and repeat the issue.
space-night's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/17/17 3:06 AM
is a little strange. If I want to do over new podcasts I always have to first subscribe to the podcast before I can listen to it. Makes no sense to me since I don’t know if I really want to subscribe to a specific podcast before I don’t know it’s content. If this is fixed I would be happy all around and give 5 stars!

Pocket Casts is the most used app on my phone. I listen to far too many podcasts and a good podcast app is essential to me. I've tried them all, and try all newcomers as they are released, but this is the one I always come back to. You won't be disappointed.

I have been a user for a long time, and I just realize that I should give this app a good review. I am able to find all the podcasts that I love and download them to listen anytime and everywhere. One improvement that that I would like is to have a place for the user to leave review for the podcasts. But otherwise, this app exists on all of my devices, and I will continue to be a user for a long long time.
saketch's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 12/14/17 2:43 PM
It’s by far my favorite podcast app. It is much better than the standard apple podcast app and worth the low cost. The two reasons I only gave it 4-stars: 1) on the main podcast page, like most apps it just shows a list of podcast icons, would like the ability to sort podcasts into categories or folders 2) the volume boost and trim silence features don’t work, the buttons are there but nothing happens when I touch them.

One thing keeping this from being the best app for podcasts is the fact that all the episodes are automatically marked as played and the whole played versus unplayed marking is super glitchy. As someone who likes tracking which episodes I’ve listened to, this app is not up to the standards of Spotify. If they get around to fixing these bugs I would reconsider but for now there are glaring problems.

jo2jo's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/8/17 4:21 AM
Thanks!

I mean it’s very evidently one of the best podcast consumption apps out there. And it’s cross platform which is excellent. Unfortunately for me casting audio to Google devices like Google Homes and Chromecasts is what a majority of my listening consists of and there’s a bug that makes that difficult. Whenever I jump into the controls of the app mid-podcast the stream will restart itself and then I’m left scrubbing through the stream to find where I left off when all I wanted to do was adjust the volume or skip forward/back a bit. I’m really hoping this gets addressed so that Pocket Casts can be my ultimate go-to app.
Sethjk17's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/6/17 11:51 PM

Best looking podcast app I’ve used. However, i continue to have many issues with it. It doesn’t save per podcast settings like episode sort order. I like to sort all of my podcast episodes oldest to newest and the app can’t even save my preference when switching between podcasts. The app also doesn’t save my played/unplayed episodes. Every time I go back into the app I have to mark episodes as played or unplayed again. Finally, the settings and podcasts do not sync between 2 iOS devices. I’ve tried to contact their support and haven’t had a response in over a week.

This Pocket Casts app is the most thought out and beautifully designed podcast app you will find. I’m a longtime podcast user, and there is nothing in the same league as this app. Period. Apple has been consistently destroying their music and podcast apps for the past few years. The worst experience. Pocket Casts has you covered on almost every device you can think of. Yowzoe's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/27/17 1:57 AM
Also this: my PockerCasts Apple Watch app has disappeared. It's very hard to sort the "Up Next" list, and the layout & usability just need re-vamping. It really takes too much effort to use this app. The "add to next" is just above the "play off from here", which is a design disaster that they should get a clue about. How many times do people accidentally put their finger on "play off from here" and delete their playlist? At the very least it should be a user option to configure. Months ago I could tap on my Bluetooth headset repeatedly to skip to the next podcast – this feature has been removed in the last several updates (I have checked with several Bluetooth headsets). I regularly lose my whole "Up Next" queue, for the umpteenth time, inexplicably. I have a brand-new 6s Plus, in prime condition, and I don't have any of these kind of problems with other apps. Casts is just too frustrating, and the developers don't seem to care. I'm tired of waiting – the problems just multiply. To add insult to injury, their update changelog text is insipid cutesy stupidity that tells you nothing.

As everyone else says, the Apple podcast app has become unusable. I tried 3 different apps before finding the perfect one. This app does everything I want it to, and nothing that I don’t. It even indicates the time length of playlists, something Apple podcasts stopped doing years ago, and that I miss dearly. Developers, please don’t ever change this app, I love it just the way it is.

Best podcast app - full stop. Not only does this app have all the "premium" features you could want (voice boost, trim silence, etc) but unique features like being able to skip over intros. Not to mention, a GREAT discovery section and support that actually responds. If you’re an Apple Watch user, there is no better companion app. Not only can you control your podcasts, but you can see details and setup your podcast queue, as well. All of this is included in the up-front price - no in-app purchases! Couldn't recommend this app enough.

Bought this app because apple podcasts doesn't support Chromecast. Even though this app does, it's basically useless. Notification controls disappear once you cast. It only plays one episode and stops, doesn't play the next ones you have queued up. It doesn't keep track of where you are in the episode. So if you take a break halfway, it plays from the beginning and doesn't show where you left off. The app itself is great if you're not planning on using the Chromecast feature.

Look, you could probably stick with Apple’s app if you only listen on a single device. It’s perfectly average. But after trying a ton of different alternatives, I can’t believe I ever settled for less than Pocket Casts. It’s got a great design, discovering & adding new feeds is easy. It’s worth the $3.99. My only regret is I didn’t start using it sooner.

Love everything about this app and have been using it for years. One request is to please make the dark mode background for iPhone X pure black rgb:0,0,0. Dark grey actually doesn’t look great on this phone, but pure black is awesome as it blends into the bezel of the phone (see Apples stock tracker app). Thanks!!!
Weatherglass's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/20/17 8:19 AM
I lasted about a minute before deleting this clunker of an app. Instead of just showing you a list of your show’s episodes, it shows you a short list and makes you click “load more” ad infinitum, giving you another couple with every click, working backwards chronologically. I wanted to listen to episode 1 in a show with over 500 episodes, so the hell with that.

And I got tired of messing with the Apple Podcast app. None of the the free to download podcast apps were as intuitive as I thought they should be. So I tried this one. it Is exactly what a Podcast app should be. Easy to use, easy to search and find the shows and episodes I want. It displays the half listened to episodes on a separate page. And shows you want us in the upnext que So I don’t have to guess. Pretty to look at, functional, and it has auto play. Another reviewer said this feels like what the Apple Podcast app should be and I completely agree. The only thing that could have made this better would have been a free trial period. Even with out that I’m sold. It’s a great app. I will be recommending it to all my friends. Totally worth more than what they are charging.

Thank you, for writing a fast, clean, easy to use podcast app that properly works with apples built in podcast controls (Ie control center widget, lock screen, etc. on iOS 11). For some reason I foolishly thought that Apple only allowed it’s default podcast app, to access Apple podcast content (ie the shows). So I never thought to find a third-party podcast. On iOS 10 I thought the Apple podcast app was a little awkward but worked fine for what I needed (accessing and the streaming the daily updated shows from two podcasts I listen to, each day). iOS 11 podcast app was updated and is simply atrocious. It is super difficult to navigate, near impossible to get to a shows latest episode (or even find out/confirm if the days episode has been published yet) and actions that required one or two taps on the prior podcast app, now require 3 to 6 tabs on the iOS 11 podcast app. Thanks!

Fantastic Podcast App and let’s get it out-of-the-way, better than Overcast. I won’t even bother comparing it to the Apple podcast app because that one is Hot pile of complicated trash. But this app holds a lot of benefits over overcast, and I was a long time overcast user. I didn’t want to spend the money for this app but I’m glad I did. The interface is clean and good to use. It’s feature rich but not complicated. Fantastic app, and I recommend downloading it if you are a podcast listener. Even if you are a devout overcast user I would recommend switching to this. It always annoyed me that I couldn’t use Siri to fast-forward or re wind overcast and it automatically play, and unfortunately it is the same here too. That said I’d still recommend it

What happened to the awesome and intuitive interface I’ve used for years?!?!?! Update is astonishingly unintuitive & utterly terrible!!!!
BHILL77's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
What was arguably the most beautiful interface of an alternative podcast player has been utterly destroyed by this most recent update. Disappointing beyond words.
Al Billings's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Unasked for UI changes in the recent update are confusing and don’t work right. Playback often takes two or three attempts to get the episode to start playing. App ignores download settings so downloads all new episodes even when you haven’t opted into auto downloads...
Desto22's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
This app was so seamless and reliable...until the most recent update. Now it’s just clumsy and rather annoying. I’m very disappointed.
Painting the roses blue's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
This new update removed several features that I used regularly and seemingly replaced them with nothing. All of the features that set this app aside from its competitors have been removed (or moved to a non-user-friendly spot) and all of the “new” features just make it harder to keep track of my played episodes and filters. I find myself inching back to their free competitors. I would love to see the ability to create episode playlists (not just filters or an “up next” queue), the ability to add all unplayed episodes of a podcast or filter to my queue (which was removed in the update?? meaning that most filters are functionally useless now), and the ability to mark episodes as played (not just archived) returned. I’m sure there’s a way to integrate the New Shiny UI with the function that this app had before, but right now I think you’re better off saving your $3 and going for a free app like Overcast.
TPNDrew's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
I’ve been using Pocket Casts for a few years and I have to say this is a step backwards. Where is the filter for unheard first? If I’m listening to back episodes of a long running show, it’s a pain to scroll to those episodes that are in the middle of a run. Adding to a playlist used to be so simple, but swiping for every episode gets old, especially if you are bouncing around between shows. The new design language is okay, but the workflow is just terrible.
joeheavyflow's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Seriously. No organization, no easy way to separate which podcasts you have downloaded. Basically 90% of what I loved about the app is now gone. Very frustrating.
Submons's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Surely the developers intended this to be an improvement but, dang. Mainly, the simplicity of the app is now lost in trying to navigate filters, icons and ambiguity. Hopeful that this feedback may be of some benefit. This was one of my favs.
oconnellda's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
See title. I follow several podcasts and would prefer not to have all downloads. The new UI is visually nice but feels clunky per other reviews. Otherwise great app and still better than Apple Podcasts.
Brando5's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Latest version: very buggy. Update: now the ruddy thing won’t play any podcasts - tells me they’re all corrupted. This app has gone from very good to crap. Confusing user interface. Terrible update.
-Gatherer's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
I’ve been using this app for over three years now, I’ve listened to well over 80 DAYS worth of podcasts in that time. I don’t know what the impetus was for this upgrade, but it’s made the app borderline impossible to use. 1. As soon as you listen to the episode, the unread badge count disappears. Doesn’t matter if I’ve only listened to ten minutes, it’s gone. I have like thirty podcasts, I routinely listen to a bit of one to decide I’m not in the mood for it at that time—I need the badge count to show me when to come back! 2. What is the obsession with the archive function? I get it can make the UI cleaner, but literally everything about this update is built around it. It puts aside some of the most important functions like download, mark unlistened, batch select, and replaces them with like four different ways to archive. 3. I have to do three clicks to download an episode, and I can’t batch mark episodes unlistened to! What happened to multi-select? If I’m to leave my house (read: WiFi) for work, and realize at the last minute I’ve listened to all my auto-downloading podcasts—There’s literally no way for me to quickly download a few episodes of another podcast. I have to manually go in, find download in the episode menu, and click it for each one. It makes what used to be a simple process overly complex. 4. I don’t understand the utility of “play all from here //archive all from here” there is literally no use for this function. Podcasts are not Netflix, I don’t often binge through an entire 200+ episode series without switching to others intermittently. I don’t like filling my entire queue with one podcasts, and again, the archive function is not that important. I can’t imagine the circumstance where I would need to archive every episode from one point on. Being able to batch select several episodes that I’ve listened to is integral . For example, maybe there’s a mini series within a podcast I don’t care for, there’s no way to select several episodes at once to “archive” or mark listened/unlistened. I don’t need to archive 200 episodes at once, I need that fine tuned control. 5. What happened the the Apple Watch app? It used to display album art, and match the play bar on the watch to the primary colors in the episode artwork—it’s less aesthetically pleasing now. I get the play/pause button is bigger, but honestly that was never an issue for me. 6. Maybe I’m totally wrong about missing functions, maybe y’all have hidden the features somewhere else in the UI and I’m not getting it. For one of the most expensive podcast apps to completely overhaul and move/remove features, you should have released a tutorial or guide on how you envisioned this working. Because honestly, I cannot understand any of the logic that went into this update. 7. Please revert, or at least listen to user feedback. This is ridiculous. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 14 years now, and for me to stick with an app for over three years across both android and iOS is a big deal. I love this app, I’ve recommended it to literally all of my podcast friends. It’s a hard sell to recommend an expensive paid player, when there are a million free options but I’ve always thought that your app was worth it. Hell, I’ve literally spent quarter of a year of straight listening with your app. I love this app, I’ve loved pretty much every other upgrade you’ve done, and that’s why I’m so frustrated right now. I’m not going to jump ship just yet, I’ll give you guys a month or so, but if this is how it’s going to be from now on I’m going to start looking at other options. Please do better.
polyphonique's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
This update is awful. Unintuitive naming and organization. Feed upkeep has never been worse. All so you could emphasize a social network no one is going to use? Embarassing.
mradam's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Many people are complaining about this latest version with good cause. The UI is bloated, and important features have been removed. The removal of auto-delete is what will force me to look for another podcast tool. Since it now does not automatically pare back downloaded episodes, my playlist is filled with hourly new casts. I only want the latest one. Developers: Please roll back this “update.” You have made an inferior product and angered your customers.
Firethorne X's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
I hate this latest update. Everything seems tiny, even switching to the largest thumbnail settings. And my sidebar for things like unplayed podcasts has disappeared off from the main screen to a separate filter page. Downloaded items no longer go to the top. This is unusable now.
Nickname? Fine. Ishmael.'s Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
This was my favorite app but the update is buggy and terrible. Boo. I fee like such an old man writing this but why did you go and fix something that wasn't broken in the first place? I've switched to Overcast, which I also don't like, but this is unusable.
Jack Dangers's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
I have to admit, I had no clue what was going on when I launched Pocket Casts the other day. I use it multiple times daily and know every screen and gesture, and what to expect when I hit ‘play’ and my queue continues where it left off. I was a bit annoyed that my queue had been wiped out, and that all of the sudden navigation was completely different. It took all of 5 minutes to figure it out. Once I added a bunch of episodes back to my queue, I realized how much easier queue management is with the new update, and I appreciate the updated cosmetics. And it saved all of my downloaded episodes and playlists. Overall, I like the update because it flows better with overall iOS 11 navigation, and it is more visually appealing. I didn’t enjoy the sudden change, but I still think it’s the best podcast management app out there. It’s core appeal is still there in spades. And it’s nice to not have to pay for what any other company would branch off as a new ‘edition’ of the app (Reeder, *cough cough*). I’d say give it 10 minutes and you old timers will be all good.
JRF_USA's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
I loved this app for many years but now I really can’t use it. Suddenly with the newest version a very important setting is missing: It removed the setting for Auto Clean-Up! In previous versions I had Auto Clean-Up set to keep only the most recent episode. But now the app is a memory hog. Auto Clean-Up is crucial for storage management. Archive is NOT a replacement for the previous Auto Clean-Up. I wrote to the developers and got a reply: They confirmed this feature was removed. No reason given. Good-bye Pocket Casts.
Doug and Krista's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
I had such high hopes when I downloaded the newest update, until I started using it! While trying to simplify the UI, they took away some of the apps best features. Now there is no way to mark podcasts as listened to, you can only archive them and make them disappear. Also, I previously was able to download the hourly NPR News cast automatically and only keep the most recent one — nope, not anymore. Now I end up with dozens of newscasts loaded and have to archive them (remember, no marking things as listened to??) manually. I really hope they are reading these reviews and we have another “update” coming soon!
Milfus's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM

This update is great. Love the new interface. All of these folks leaving bad reviews have obviously not given this update a chance. ALL of the features from before are still there(if you took the time to look for it). “Oh, where is the downloaded queue” well, it’s there if you bothered to look. This still still the podcast app to beat in my opinion..

rrbaker's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
So here's what I'm guessing what happened: Worked great. Built a steady userbase despite heavy competition in the market. Listened to its users and improved over time. Bought by NPR and others. Who's original plan was "Let's build our own, what could go wrong?" So they did, and it was inferior, and unsurprisingly no one cared. So they came up with the much better strategy of buying something with a built-in userbase in the hopes of making something good better. Then a team of people are suddenly involved, all who need a stake in making changes for changes sake, and all those bad ideas get resurrected into this new version. Congrats, Public Radio, you tanked your acquisition. If anyone over there has any sense, updates will come fast and furious and they will include a lot of rollbacks.
grogalski69's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Been using this app for years, every day, on iOS and Android, but this latest update is atrocious. Others have already mentioned the confusing UI, inconsistent labels for uploaded vs partially played episodes, lack of manual refresh, tons of wasted space, hard access to episode notes, etc. I hate not having individual playback controls for each podcast anymore. Also the playback sheets keeps freezing the app, forcing me to reboot. The font is tiny, making it harder to read the episode titles. And what happened to ability to limit how many I played episodes are kept around before deleting the old ones? This used to be the best and my favorite podcast app but now it’s a daily frustration.
NestoFC's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Wow. Could not imagine a developer so carefully and fully ruining the user experience of an app. Almost every aspect of the app has been ruined - taking away useful features, adding extra clicks to do things. Please revert back. Unless you do, I will be on the lookout for a new podcast app, so post in your reviews if any users found any good podcast apps.
Aidan Torrence's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
The update to this app has completely ruined every single function of the app. Want to know which episodes you’ve already listened to? Good luck. Want to know which episodes are already in your playlist? Good luck. Want to add an episode to your up next playlist? Now it’s two clicks. Want to remove episode? Same. Want to change episodes? Same. Just absolutely awful.

What were they thinking with this newest update? I have used this app for years but this newest update has me considering switching to something else. Until this update I have never experienced any bugs, however now when I press play on a podcast it can take up to a minute or more to start! If it starts at all. This is when trying to play already downloaded podcasts. Truly disappointed in this tragedy of an update.
artunque's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Not being able to listen to podcast without subscribing made me look for other alternatives. I never found one that gave me the controls that pocketcasts gives it users without a subscription. Still searching, I looked up pocketcasts again in the App Store. To my surprise, they have updated and brought everything I could ever ask for along with it. This is by far the best podcast app available and the update fixed all the little hang ups I had. Great job!
Connador's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
The under-the-hood aspects to this update are great, but the visual changes are so great that the app is no longer the easy experience that I used to know. With an 8 Plus, I feel like I’ve lost a ton of screen real-estate after the new update. Episode titles are often cut off, and the top and bottom bars are -gigantic-
Just Cuz too's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
Update: Change is hard. Spent some time tinkering and I was able to get most of the functionality back. Glad that it is still there, but not great that finding it is not intuitive nor that all of the settings I had were deactivated and I had to hunt to get them reset. ______________________________________ It was perfect, then came the most recent update. Badging for new episodes is broken. Adding episodes to up next is tedious and needlessly complicated. Distinction between downloaded and available episodes is confusing. Please please please revert to the old version until this one is ready for prime time.

I’ve used this app for my podcast listening get for years, and it was perfect. I’m an extensive podcast listener, and I’ve logged over 70 days worth of listening on this app. This recent update destroyed what was the most used application on my phone. The new UI is hideous, and features are now buried and difficult to find. As much as it saddens me, I’m now in the market for another app to listen to my podcasts. Thanks for the years we did have.
kgmus's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
i loved this app before the update. being able to simply swipe to drop played episodes down to a grayed out section was a great way to stay organized. now i have to show all “archived” episodes and then manually unarchive HUNDREDS of them that i’ve never played one by one. and i have to go through previously heard shows and archive played episodes to get them out of my new episode list. hot tip: if someone downloads a new show make all the episodes new and unplayed, don’t put them all hidden in an archive so they have to spend an age finding it and then swiping, swiping, swiping, swiping to get them out just to listen to a new show. ridiculous.
dapitts08's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/18/18 12:33 PM
like everyone else has mentioned, this update took away much of the functionality that i loved about this app. one thing that i haven't seen mentioned is the inability to rotate to landscape. i used this quite often so i could scan longer titles in my feeds. now the only way i can see a full title is by tapping each individual episode which is not optimal at all. i really hope you take into a consideration all of the reviews about how you have completely changed the user experience for many of us for the worse and conaider rolling back some features.
James Darin's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I like when apps get out of my way and let me do what I need to do. This is an example of an app the got too self-important for their own good. Visually, this app really took a step backwards. The “playing” bar at the bottom is far too large and takes up too much room. And for some reason there’s a persistent “search” bar on the subscribed podcasts screen, taking up even more of the real estate. I’m switching to a competitor till these things get sorted out.
rich_garc's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I happily used the app every day for years, but the latest update makes it very confusing. Adding an episode to the Up Next queue is hidden behind a right swipe on an episode. The most frustrating part of the update is that all the episodes of a podcast are lumped together into a long list. I frequently listen to the Joe Rogan podcast, and I had episodes from a couple years ago, but now I have to scroll endlessly to get to the old episodes. A filter of downloaded episodes of some sort would be nice. I don’t recommend this app unless this is addressed.
pizzahut76's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
The functionality of the app has gone downhill. I can no longer download episodes from channel pages which is crazy. There is no easy way to download episodes. It takes too many taps to get to places, the refresh takes way longer than it used to, there is no need for a dedicated profile page since this isn’t a social media app, the channel page designs are clunky, etc. It looks too much like Twitter when it should look more like a podcast app that has better functionality. I have been using this app for years and I don’t want to stop now. But, for me, I cannot get behind these changes. Also, I’m pretty sure all of the recent positive reviews are fake.
Kipster92's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
The newest update has rendered this app virtually unusable. 1. Anything previously played and older than a few months was automatically archived. There is no option to un archive all episodes at once, so for 10 podcasts and roughly 750 episodes I’d have to go through and manually unarchive them. 2. A lot of the archived eps are marked as unplayed, which means the badge number is astronomical. I keep track of episodes by unplayed since I keep notifications off. This update has ruined the overall experience. 3. The new UI is confusing and counterintuitive. It’s like they looked at what people liked about their app over others and said, “Yeah, let’s get rid of that.” The swiping feature to add individual eps to up next is likely the only thing I DO like about the update. Everything else has me searching for other apps to use. I’m disappointed, but I also know that there are features Pocket Casts has that other apps don’t, and I’m honestly extremely frustrated that the app has ceased to function the way I bought it for. The only reason it has one star is because I can’t give it zero.
paceface2000's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I use this app all day everyday. There is a lot to get used to with the update. The changes are not intuitive. For example, my two most common actions are adding episodes to my play next list (finally figured this out) and downloading episodes (now a multiple step process for each individual episode - big hassle).
xen091's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I use this app nearly every day, I liked the old ui, it was so simple and easy to use, with the new ui it’s hard to tell when my shows have a new episode, where before the icons had badges to show me there was a new episode, now I have to go through every podcast I have subscribed to to look to see if there are new episodes, I will be looking for a different app unless this gets fixed.
Creative__Name's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
After about 5 years of using this app every single day I’m moving on. Change is hard and I knew I needed to give it a few days but this new version isn’t just different, it’s awful. If you have any segmented podcasts using this app isn’t going to work well. I also find clicking on a podcast episode now just streams it. You need to go in and choose to download. The “play all” option that used to exist that would launch from the oldest unplayed segment seems to be gone. In short, I’m grabbing a different paid app as I listen several hours a day. If after several days I’m still frustrated it tells me it’s the app, not me.
TheeeGooch's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
A rule of thumb is to know your audience and avoid losing them by keeping the features that brought them to your product in the first place . Add and enhance features , but don’t drop the unless there is a business case to do so. I purchased Pocket Casts because it gave me very granular control podcast management. it was like the app the engineers . The 7.0 update dumbed down the interface, took away great features like auto cleanup. They also made the interface more confusing by removing the download icon , removing the marked as played, and also removed the delete swipe gesture. Also confusing is the new Archive feature that I never saw anyone ask for in twitter , forums , website , etc. it replaces what I was using - “Delete” - with something I’ll never use. I’m trying out other apps like Overcast since without the auto-cleanup feature my device’s storage will fill up in no time .
Third time is charm's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
There no longer appears to be a feature to keep only a certain number of recent episodes. This seemed like a good way to keep storage under control, but it is no longer there. The search bar being ever-present on the podcast tab is also unwelcome since i’m rarely searching...just want to play. Search should be different from my podcasts, or only there when I swipe down.
ruhtertr's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
This application has meant so much to me for the past three years. I have proselytized it to all of my friends. I have listened to 1000s of hours podcasts with this app. Every update has typically brought more refinement to an already beautiful and unique interface. I didn’t think twice about this update, I was very excited to see the new features. I clicked the icon as soon as the install circle closed and waited excitedly as the load screen flashed. Aaaaaaaaand, hmmm? Different...but that’s not always a bad thing. I clicked around the new bottom interface. It was okay, definitely less unique than before but not annoying. The main page is odd. The search bar doesn’t disappear if I scroll up and takes up 10% of the screen for now use. Then I click into a podcast and the true falls from grace make themselves known. I click on an episode and a page slides in from the bottom, which is fine, but then I click play. The control field appears with a new appearance, different but okay. I drag the tray up and try and take in the new layout expecting a refinement of system I had come to love over the years, but NOTHING is safe. The most crucial and differentiating element of this entire application has become a piss awful clone of the apple podcast “now playing” tray. If you doubt me, check for yourself. Some of the saddest losses are the ability to slide the control field to the left and add episodes “up next” in seconds; you can still add episode “up next” but in a much more tedious way. I am a bit at loss for what to do. It’s some failed relationship, I still love the idea of us but the day to day is hell. Swiftjelly can I please just downgrade? I’ve sold your app well over 30 times. This review is obviously just a catharsis for my disappointment, but if you are someone new wanting to know if you should download, sure. It’s a good app. Same function and features as the stock podcast app with a little better user interface. It just used to be so much more. 😔
casmith07's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
This app went from being the best podcast app on the market to being an abject failure and unmitigated disaster overnight. Simple and intuitive interface has been nuked in favor of whatever abomination this app is now. Deleted. The old adage is true: if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it!
Edc-2011's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I’m not one to complain, but really guys - this is bad. The option to limit downloads is gone. The “playback speed” is no longer “per podcast”, now it applies to all podcasts. The ability to Long Press on a podcast and pick “play next” or “play last” is buried within a menu - three more clicks but I do this ten times a day. It’s OK to simply revert to the previous build, guys. We will understand. In fact we will be thrilled.
duderj's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I don't mind some of the visual changes that the update made, however the app is now incredibly buggy with episodes not syncing between devices and showing back up as in progress multiple times after having been completed. The played vs archived distinction is confusing as well and now the app thinks I have 2000+ unplayed episodes that are visually clogging up the interface with no clear way to quickly mark them played again. The only advantage over Overcast for podcasts is the ability to play through Sonos easily, but with the syncing issues this is no longer working well either. I've switched back to Overcast until there is another update hopefully addressing the poor 7.0 update.
Oni no Chuck's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
Guess back to a different app. This was great but the new UI has made it clunky and unusable. Not sure why they would make these changes unless some UX person just got ahold of it and wanted to ruin it.

After the recent update this app has become overly complicated and totally unintuitive. No one should need to jump through a million unnecessary hoops of a messy GUI to just see the newest podcasts they follow, download, play and then delete them. I’m going to search for a new podcast app and have no issue paying for one that isn’t a mess.

What happened to all my downloaded podcasts???? Just leaving for a long trip and about to listen to my downloads and now they’re gone???? Do not like this new lay out
Retroalias's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
Pocket casts used to be the ultimate app for podcasts. I used it since launch and it was amazing. The new update however has completely destroyed the user interface. They’ve also removed tools like being able to mark one episode as played. Also they removed the slider one playing the episode. The changes don’t make any sense. Very disappointed but It was good while it lasted. Now to find a replacement app.
gtex10123's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
This app used to be the best podcast app in my opinion. The combination of simplicity and functionality really kept it a step ahead. The clean design was such a plus. Everything that was good about Pocket Casts is now been changed for the worse. They added extra steps to almost every action you take, from downloading to managing podcasts, as well as added clutter to much of the layout. Sadly I will need to find a different app for playing podcasts. Very disappointing update to say the least. Edit: Shift jelly, the original authors of this app sold out to NPR. So they bought Pocket Casts and destroyed it. Don’t give these clowns another dime.

...of bad choices like changing the terminology for the deletion of files to “archive” and archiving now prevents episodes from showing up in playlists. uggg instead of enhancing the playlist creation options, playlist folders or adding manually to a playlist, Shifty Jelly has made some odd choices
Destroyer.666's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
This was by far the best podcast app on the market. I’ve used this regularly for over two years during my commute and it’s was super practical and functional and it made listening easy and clean. The new update has shuffled important tabs like “downloads”, new episodes and unfinished episodes and put them in new tabs, behind several filters and bummed them to a useless profile page. It all just feels so haphazard and unpolished. It was such an unnecessary change that has really ruined the easy use of what was such a great app. I will give the Devs credit that the ability to not have to subscribe to view Podcast libraries is very welcomed, but I’d trade that feature to go back to the older version..
Jan Lou 89's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
This latest update has ruined one of my favorite apps. Why must we continually fix things when they aren’t broken? I’m probably irrationally upset by this, but I hate how this new one functions. It’s counterintuitive to use now (I.e. needing to click on an episode to mark it as played - I needlessly archived several episodes before realizing that a stupid change had been made to one of my most used features). Its ease of use was one of my favorite things about it before.
DartRasen's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I have been using this app to listen to podcast pretty much since it came out on both android and iOS. I really don’t like the new update. Seems really complicated and hard to use. I wish they would take the app back to how it used to be.
?!?!?!?!?420's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I have used this app for over two years as I like to switch between my s9 and my iPad for listening. I listen to over 500 podcasts and had sorted them painstakingly to make it possible to manage them and my time. The new update makes it impossible to mark lists all played or I played and or to download more than one podcast at a time. I know they were trying to make the app better but have made it unusable for me. Wish I could get a refund or roll back to the last version of the app when it was actually useful to me. I’m actually considering re visiting apple podcasts taunts how desperate I am at this point 🙄
RootWinsAgain's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
The update did make the app different but that is what updates do. But after pushing myself to give it a chance. I did find all the features I loved in the settings. There is a couple of things that is a little harder to do but it is nothing huge to affect my world of podcast. I am subscribed to over 100 podcasts. The up next is very important. I have a 256 gig internal memory IPhone so download is a must. So after giving it a chance, I am still able to do everything I had done before. Pocket cast is still the only podcast app that will do what I need it to do. Believe me, I have tried every other app out there (including the ones you pay for). It is an adjustment but I can still do all the things I could do before.
Tim(27)'s Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
The new update trashed the UI, ruined the I played items badge, and didn’t fix the biggest issues. The app needed better chrome cast support and a UI that worked better with the Face ID phone’s lower UI bar. Now it needs a total overhaul.
Firethorne X's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I hate this latest update. Everything seems tiny, even switching to the largest thumbnail settings. And my sidebar for things like unplayed podcasts has disappeared off from the main screen to a separate filter page.
dacanova's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I’ve used this app for 4 years, paid for it both on Android and iOS. I love the trim silence, volume boost, and subtle touch of pitch adjust when I listen at 1.9x speed and pitches of people sound the same as 1x speed. However, I don’t listen to any podcasts that I found on their first episode, so previous to this update I had scrolled through the archive and downloaded ones I wanted to listen to. Before it would have downloaded and published episodes since subscribed separated from the rest of the podcasts. Now it’s only organized in chronological order, so my picking and choosing means I have scroll through podcasts I’ve already made an effort to separate. Furthermore, I thought they brought the stream while downloading feature that is on Android, but the streaming has yet to work. Lastly having red bubbles with number of new podcasts was wonderful for a quick glance to see which have new content, now I have to either receive a notification or click individually on each podcast to find out.
smd1966's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 7:34 PM
I used Pocket Casts daily - it's reasonable to state it was my most used app. When I read the ridiculous text for the update I should have known. Everything - absolutely everything - that made Pocket Casts the best app for heavy podcast listeners is just gone. Single tap to download episode? Gone. Swipe left to access queue? Gone. Downloaded and unplayed episodes grouped conveniently at the top of the episode list? Gone. Nice neat now playing strip out of the way at the bottom of the screen? Gone. (Also, the ability to drag and drop episodes to that strip to add to queue - Gone.) Long press to play all downloaded episodes in order from old to new? Gone. There are a BUNCH more functions that have been dumped, and in addition, most functions that took a single tap or swipe now require two or three. All I can say is, you might as well use the useless Apple podcast app - which Pocket Casts now looks like! Pocket Casts was the best. The new owners have apparently decided mediocrity is the way of the future. Looking for a replacement.

Amazing update. Enjoying the all new features. So pleased to see things like buttons to mark an episode as “Played” or “Archive” which basically fixes the earlier issue I had with the app described in my old review below. Also cool new player UI design. Keep up the great work! ——— Old review: Not sure it’s fair to mark an episode as completed if you decided to skip it instead. Feeling guilty every time I swipe left. Would really appreciate a skip/delete option if swiped the other side.

What's going on with this app? Not happy with the latest update. Thought the app would go downhill after the original developers sold out. I switched to icatcher podcast player and am not looking back to Pocket Casts. The functionality and ease of use are much better and I can Sync to icloud at no additional cost. Very intuitive user interface. The app also has frequent updates and the developer is very quick to respond.

cool calm jon's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
My most used app (175+ days of listen time) has fallen so far. A real shame, but I have no idea how to use it anymore - what does archiving do? Why is it so prominent with every swipe? Why don't podcast badges make sense any more? Partially played episodes no longer display a badge number? Where are the auto delete functions like "keep downloading and deleting the latest 2 episodes of this specific podcast"? I guess I will have to try Overcast or something. A real shame.
Tom 2010's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
Still the better podcatcher. They seem to have added closer widgets to more modal panels, not my preference but, hey. Marking an episode archived is now distinct from marking played so the app badge count labels have changed (unplayed means new and archived). For some reason, the iOS version can’t sync and remove the top episode from the up next queue. The work around is to tap the next episode and click a few more times to mark that episode played. Tedious for something that used to, a mere couple days ago, just work.
adamalexander92's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
Latest update is HORRIBLE. No more variable speed settings for each podcast? When I change one podcast to 1.5x speed, THEY ALL GET UPDATED. What happened to swiping left for the information of the podcast? Now you have to click a button. This is overly complicated. Will be using another podcast app now.
Francis Moses's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
This was the ultimate podcast app and the update was completely unnecessary. Lost so many good features - most specifically getting rid of the “only keep most recent episode” or “auto-delete played episodes” options go? Why wouldn’t it at least have an option now to auto archive all but newest episode? And the interface is so hard to mark as played or archive with a swipe. I do it like 5 times before it goes through. And I randomly get badges on the app showing 500 new podcasts, so it’s clearly just full of bugs. I wish it had an option to revert to classic mode, because I’m dangerously close to finding a new podcast app.
Bill D. Wall's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
I never write reviews, but I’m so disappointed in the latest update. It’s objectively terrible. Nothing worse than change for the sake of change.
ngarcia610's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
Edit: I uninstalled and switched to Overcasts. Better interface and its free. I paid for pocketcasts multiple times on different platforms because I loved the product. Keyword is loved, because they just did an overhaul on the UI and now the app is just vile. This isn't your standard change averse reaction. Simple things like marking podcasts as played are gone. It now looks like every other free podcast app just with less functionality and with a price tag.

My god - this was the one app I used religiously every day for years - no other podcast app compared. This app is a mess now - not only that, but you also removed the auto cleanup feature — this totally defeats how I used the app to enjoy my podcasts. Why mess with success? There’s a reason why PocketCasts was so popular. Now I’m considering leaving. Bring back the old app!
Sad Hobo's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
This app used to be great, however the developers have messed it up with the latest version. It is full of bugs, the search function for podcasts is now broken so you cannot search for new podcasts. Playing and organizing and figuring out which episodes have been played have become cumbersome and not usable. DO NOT DOWNLOAD.
SharifshshakHdghaha's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
Update basically took a perfectly working car and removed the tires. Features randomly deleted, bottom menu disappears occasionally, and the interface is uglier. Why can’t there be a podcast app on iOS that’s as good as podcast addict on Android?
Major_Ursa's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
This could easily be a 5 star app. The sync feature which allows me to pick up where I left off on nearly any device is beyond awesome. I just have one little feature preventing me from fully ditching my other podcast app - PLEASE add the ability to rewind by a few seconds when resuming playback. Most of the time when I resume it’s mid-conversation and I have to remember what they were talking about. Overcast does this incredibly well by giving the option to toggle on or off small rewind by about 3 seconds when jumping back in to get a quick refresher. Instead of customizing the rewind second interval amount in this app (which serves a different purpose to me as I like to rewind by 15 seconds), an option to resume 5 or 3 seconds before where I last left off would make me ditch Overcast in a heartbeat. I love this app but adding that little feature from the Overcast (which is free btw) to Pocket Casts would be so incredibly appreciated and make this my main podcast app for the foreseeable future. And a definite 5 stars

I miss the feature that allowed us to decide how many episodes we wanted to keep for specific podcasts. Some I want to keep 10, some I want only the latest. Etc... I’ll never understand why companies do major overhauls with UI. It makes the consumer do too much to learn it. It’s supposed to enhance my life not be work!
Xristosnika's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
I’m not against change, but not all change is good. I didn’t realize the app was updated, so when I opened it to use at work, I got a headache trying to operate it, was going to waste time so closed it until I could spend time deciphering it. Not intuitive, especially for someone using the app for years. You now need a manual to understand how to use it.
jowil93's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
I’ve been using this app happily for months now with absolutely no complaints, but this latest update completely pulled the carpet from under me. The UI is completely new, and while attractive, extremely unintuitive and BUGGY. I can’t build a simple playlist (well, rebuild the playlist that was completely erased when the app updated) without having to fully restart the app several times because I get stuck on one page or another, I’m not sure if that’s due to a bug or user error necessarily, but if it is user error, that speaks to its lack of intuition. Also, the last maybe 3 seconds of my podcasts have been getting clipped since the update, it’s not the end of the world, generally it doesn’t affect the actual content of what I’m listening to, but still, it’s a new problem that didn’t exist prior to the update. I really love this app, I love the thought that’s gone into this update even, but the execution is abysmal, if you’re thinking about buying this app, don’t do it now, but do come back once these issues have been fixed.
lucidlock's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
I never understand when apps that do a great job decide to completely overhaul themselves, with little overall improvement, but forcing the user to completely re-learn how to navigate and customize the experience. You fools!
WalMom's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
Don't get me wrong, I love Pocket Casts. I'm a podcast junkie and have tried every app. Pocket Casts is the one I'm committed to. But the recent update is significant. Most importantly, so far, is the change to the Up Next feature. Gone is the date of each episode in the list. I relied on that to see which episodes were no longer fresh. Without being able to see that, Up Next loses its value. On a positive note, I think the ability to delete episodes from the playlists is much improved. Still early days, though. We'll see.

I used to love this app, and even paid for it on multiple platforms, plus the web client! Friends, it was brilliant. And for my use cases, the redesigned interface is strictly inferior. -ScottieDawg's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
The update that hit my phone 11/15/18 has me looking for a replacement podcast app. Auto cleanup is gone. Now my podcasts are dominated by top-of-the-hour news instead of just hearing the most recent. I loved this app, which was my most used app, but now it is a mess. I have to intervine and organize my list before a start driving. I can't add easily delete eposides I want to skip. Instead, the app tries to force me to archive. That is not how I want to use the limited space in my phone. I do like the new interface. It is more intuitive, but the loss of features I relied on is what makes this last update a net loss. I want to like this app. We have spent many hours together. Please restore lost functionality and I might return.
MS-2014!'s Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
This is the single worst app update ever pushed out. Half my subscribed podcasts won’t download now with some type of certificate warning preventing them from doing so. This new interface adds extra steps for functions that used to take 1 click now take 2-3 and sometimes even 4 clicks. Filters are broken and unintuitive now. Playlist also. I bought the app for the old version. The version before version 7 was perfect. Version 7 is a case study in UX disaster that app developers will be studying for years to come. An example of how to take a 5 star app and make it a one star app overnight. Last step after this review? Well, to delete the app off my phone and find a new podcast app. Yea, it’s that bad.
Alan Siegel's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM

I’ve been a happy user of this app for several years and I would be shocked and appalled if this November 2018 update is not rolled back. What an absolute horror show. They took an intuitive podcast platform and pushed it through a wood chipper to the point that it is unrecognizable. This is not an aesthetic complaint, although this also looks awful. I should never click play and then have to click through different menus to advance or rewind. It’s so basic that I’m genuinely curious to find out what kind of person changed it. Were there problems at home? Is your brain wired differently? Were you just having a bad week? The whole thing is a mess but it’s easier to re subscribe to all of my podcasts in whatever competing app is carving your thanksgiving turkey now than to go through the problems line by line. Roll it back, for God’s sake. I click ignore on every app review request that’s presented to me, but I felt compelled to weigh in here in the desperate hope that someone at this company will see this and realize the folly of what they’ve just done. Change it back. All of it. Then try again. A good chunk of your users might not delete the app altogether.

I love pocketcasts and, a couple of years ago, paid for the web access for syncing so I could have it across any device. This is an awesome podcast app! Looks great, runs smoothly, easy to use. BUT....this new update completely erased all the episodes I had downloaded to play "up next" on my iPhone. 🤬..kinda frustrating, to say the least, and there doesn't seem to be a way to sync so that it comes back. I guess I'll just re-add everything 🤷♂️... If it comes back before I do anything, then I'll add the last star (because I believe it's worth 5*)....

That feature was the reason I selected this as my primary player out of all the available options. It was critical to managing my podcasts feed — in particular the hourly NPR news podcast. It was perfect. I had the episodes automatically queue to my top of my list so that between every podcast episode I would always get a quick five-minute news update. And the best part was that my podcast feed wasn’t overrun with all of these listened episodes. Because the newest always replaced the previous. But now no more :(
srornat's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
I was hoping this update would include multiple playlists (or filters as this app calls them) and allow for manual and priority sorting like Overcast does. I have an @Work playlist for Office listening, an @Home playlist for around the house and an @Yard for outdoor chores as well as a couple of others. Having only one master playlist such this app has makes it very inconvenient when changing listening venues. I’ll give it two stars for the effort and hope they come their senses and include multiple manually/priority sortable playlists. At least allow for manual sorting in the filter options. Until then it’s Overcast for me.
glayzed's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM

Not sure what happened here. The last update is horrendous. Swiping is far less intuitive, the app doesn’t auto delete, episodes can’t be sorted by downloaded or not. Archiving is cumbersome and doesn’t make any sense. I have used this app every day for over 4 years. Now I need to switch, it’s boarder line unusable. Guys. Please fix this. You are going to plummet on iTunes and lose users by the masses. It’s bad. Really bad.

SDeaneS's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
But I just can’t. First and foremost, it is so SLOW. Every time you tap it takes 10X longer than it should. Want to move an episode around in your playlist, be prepared to scroll to the end of the page, wait for the episode to settle, and scroll to the end of the page again, over and over and over again. The play next feature seems to have completely disappeared, because obviously you want every new episode added to the end (sarcasm). And there is no way to tell which of the episodes you would like to add are already in your playlist. The”new and improved” discover just shows a black screen unless you know exactly what you’re searching for. I am glad they finally added a recently played section that shows podcasts in the order they were listened to, and playback options are customizable to each podcast. But it’s not enough to make up for what was lost.

I've been using and love using this application for years. They've taken out the ability to manually delete episodes in this last update. The app automatically deletes episodes that are marked as played. What about episodes that I've played and marked as played, but want to keep on my device? I don't want them to be deleted. I want a delete option, an easy to find trash icon. How hard can that be?
Yordanis's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
This has been my favorite app for years now, and I’m an avid podcast listener. The new update however caught me by surprise and there are so many things wrong with it that I’m writing my first app review to plead for some fixes. I used to be able to swipe to archive so quickly.... I could swipe through several episodes from podcasts I subscribe to but don’t listen to all of their shows. Now the swiping is hit or miss, it forces me to really long swipe to archive without using the button. Also, I used to be able to swipe left on the bottom bar to “show next” in my queue. Then I could tap “add to up next” and create a really nice playlist on the fly. That feature is completely gone now. Why?! I also cant tell as easily how much of an episode is left with the small bar on the bottom. I have raved about this app and told many people how simple and intuitive it was. I don’t think it’s ruined, and I’m not going to ditch it, but this update needs updating and I hope the developer hears the feedback.
westonm's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
The November 2018 update has a few nice features, but in many was it is a step back. -It’s difficult to see which episodes are already added to up next. -The typography weighting is subjective, but I would call it heavy. -It’s an app designed for both android and iOS. It really feels that way now. -Still no 3D Touch support. +The syncing of currently playing and upnext is nice. I’m not sure it that feature is worth the other abuses the interface took. +A few gestures for closing and opening subviews have been added. (Once again though these feel not quite iOS native.)
dfabs's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/17/18 12:35 PM
Pocket casts has lots of great features for frequent podcast listeners, including fine grain control over notifications, and auto-downloads, and auto-queueing. I subscribe to over 200 podcasts, so I appreciate being able to organize episodes with custom filters. The new version 7 refines the app design for larger phones (the now playing, show notes, and up next are all easily reached with one thumb), while keeping the power features intact. It’s also easy to share episodes with friends or online; there’s a nice web player for this purpose. You can also share multiple podcasts which allows others to easily subscribe to an entire list of shows. Having tried many others, this is my favorite 3rd party podcast app, and it’s well worth buying if you’re a fan of listening to, and discovering new podcasts.

I recommend Pocket Casts, which is far superior to the dreadful Spotify podcasts experience, and is quite more refined than Apple’s bloated experience. Casts is all an application, especially a podcast application, needs to be. I am curious, however with skepticism, to see how willing the developers are to add even more features; for instance, I’ve always wished for the ability to add personal notes to my podcasts, but I’ve not found an app that can do that yet. Here’s to hoping 😬
gp_01's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 8:50 AM
Don’t normally write reviews, but this has been my go-to podcast app for years. And this new UI is really diminishes the user experience. Takes multiple taps to mark something as played, to download, etc. Still has the same useful features (playback speed, skipping first X seconds of a podcast, etc.), but a step in the wrong direction. Looking at alternatives now.
Sean G. G.'s Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I have been using pocket casts for many years and have loved it all that time and have never once considered switching. I cant get enough of the stats as it lets me see how far I’ve come in my podcast obsession. It’s been there for me even in my transition from android to iOS. I’m really enjoying to new update but as far as I can see is missing one small feature for me. I have gotten really into managing my up next list and with this recent update it is missing a feature from the previous versions. Before when I would rearrange the play order the if I dragged a podcast to the top or bottom of the screen the list would move in that direction and allow me to stop and place the podcast where I wanted that. This feature is either not included or I can’t see were to toggle it. The add to top or bottom helps but as I can have my list dozen long at times, I will have to drag an item up the screen stop scroll up and drag again, sometimes multiple times. Even if this doesn’t return I’m still here for the long haul! Keep it up everyone!

People hate change. Facebook updates the news feed, Google modernizes it's logo, people throw a fit but eventually get used to it... This isn't that. I adored this app and now it's just such a pain. Checking off a podcast? It's now no longer just a swipe away. Want to see which recent podcasts are already on your playlist? You can't. Want to set up automations so only the most recent of a podcast, like an NPR hourly news update, shows up in your feed? Naw. Can't do that anymore. Why strip functionality and make things worse just to put on an attmitedly nice new polish in terms of look and feel? That's like waxing your car and then gutting the innards.
kl0ndike's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
The new versionooks fine but is so much more difficult to use. Time to try something new I guess.

C’mon guys this is crap. Please, please please add this back, I don’t care about any of the UI changes if I need to spend way more time cleaning up my list.
npaler01's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I've used and loved this app for years. This recent update, I wish I could opt to not use it. It's not as easy to use for the features I use. Things that took two gestures now take 5 or 6. I hope they improve on this pretty quickly.
rhoke39's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Totally gutted. The newest “update” is anything but. They removed all of the intuitive swiping, played/unplayed functionality and replaced it with cumbersome, multi-tap workflows. It used to so easy to see and visually organize every podcast. The upgrade is the opposite of that—one long list of episodes with hard to read icons denoting “archived” vs “unarchived”. I’m a power listener—I subscribe to over 50 podcasts and like to manage them each individually. That functionality is now completely gone. What huge disappointment. I’ll definitely be looking for a new app.
tripllle's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I’ve never written an app review without being asked to before but this update to the already great Pocket Casts is perfect. Every single feature I had wished Pocket Casts had it does now! Search by guest, preview a new pod without having to subscribe first, even more robust listening stats, and so much more. And they’re one of the last companies left doing fun app updates notes 😘

Just got the latest update. Not simple to use anymore. I will be finding a different podcast app.
mlbiv85's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I previously love overcast. I used it for years on android before I moved to iOS. I was so please to find that it was very similar on iOS and was using it very happily for the past 2+ years. However, I do not like the new update. The new UI is fine but they took away a setting in the auto-download section that I used to manage my podcast as a couple of them release several times a day. I was able to tell the app to auto down the podcast but keep the only the latest X amount. I loved that setting but it was replaced with the auto archive setting that does not replace the function. I am now going to try out Overcast and the default Apple app again.
ngarcia610's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Long time user on every platform. Loved the clean simple interface. After the update swiping “archives” episodes instead of marking them as played. Archiving keeps progress and hides the episode from the feed. If I wanted to keep the progress I would just leave the episode active. I also dont like hiding episodes, I like seeing my progress. Trying new apps in the meantime.
Ex Cathedra's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
The new version does not seem to allow downloading of individual podcasts. It seems that you can only download all podcasts subscribed. The new documentation does not address it. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. Failing to allow downloading of only selected podcasts make the app useless. And not explaining this upfront is unacceptable. This is so Apple-esque. Apple removed playlists from its podcast app with no warning. That is why I moved to Pocket Cast. So I have 3 questions. First, how can I download only selected individual podcasts? Second, if I cannot, how can I downgrade to the previous version? Third, if I cannot, what’s a the best podcast app that lets the user control downloads?
GOduber's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I hate this update. Simple stuff is gone. Swipe to mark heard is gone.. now swipe and tap. Show only last episode is gone.
M.James's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
They nailed the new design! So clean, intuitive, functional, feature packed, and just a pleasure to use. Perfect amount of in-app animations that just makes the app feel really rich. It's got all the features you want with a clean design and CarPlay too! Well done!
husblah's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I used to love this app, it was seriously the perfect podcast app. After the version 7 update it’s now a clunky and impossible to navigate mess. I can no longer access the play next queue due to this black bar that will not go away unless I force close the app. I can only assume this is a bug because who in there right mind thought that was useful? Played podcasts no longer go to the bottom so you have to wade through a huge list to try to find where you left off. It also now takes two to three taps to download or add the episode to your play next queue where it used to just be one.
Redmond Original's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
This used to be my favorite app for podcasts but they recently changed the ui and behavior and now it's one of the worst apps for podcasts and unfortunately it's too late to get a refund. Why they felt the need to needlessly complicate the app is beyond me.
iDaveG4's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I love the visual redesign but the addition of an archive button at swipe drives me nuts. Why add an extra step to remove an episode? I understand it's trying to be a staged or smart swipe, but it fails at that pretty miserably.

I hate being critical when a developer tries something new but I hate the update. I mostly subscribe to many podcasts. I have a daily list and and catch up list. I never liked having to pick listen to all for a list to get them kicked off but non of these podcast apps are perfect. I love how this one syncs with android and for the most part is bulletproof but this update really killed my ability to use it. It’s too much work now to listen to the podcasts. I can see the benefits of this approach. I can think of workarounds I could use but I’m bending too much at this point to make it work for me. I think Castro works like this. You pick what to listen to next but that’s not the way I listen. I’ll just listen to the list in the order it has and quickly mark listened anything I’m not interested in. I’m moving over to iCatcher which behaves more the way I like to organize and listen. It gives you more control over priority of podcasts and how they sort in the order I am most likely to want to listen. Pocket cast for the most part now turn this all into a very manual tedious process. I’ll keep an eye of future updates and continue to see what changes.
Kat Thompson's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I hate whatever they did to this app in the latest update. Everything is different and looks weird. The features that I used this app specifically for are no longer there or no longer convenient. I have no idea why they felt the need to change everything...really disappointing.
GcSQ's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I had a VERY carefully curated queue, and the update not only deleted it (FORTY FIVE HOURS OF PODCASTS) but now won’t maintain a new queue. Why!??
Jgauth2's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
They removed the best features (or at least Burris’s them). For example: -the now playing bar doesn’t show the title of the episode anymore? Like what?? -the “keep latest episode only” filter was removed so now my whole feed is the hourly npr news updates. Cool.
Jeiyo's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Amazing UI Refresh. I was hoping for improved smart speed it still sounds a little loud after each silence skip.so there’s the feeling of jogging through audio. I wish the good folks at pocket casts would have a listen to overcast smart speed and implement a similar smoothness. It would be 5 stars if I had the ability to add podcasts by url, and if I could mass delete/unsubscribe by selecting all etc.
Richard D. D.'s Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I really enjoy this app for listening to podcasts. I can customize the look and how it’s arranged. In short cuts can we add an option to open the app and just start playing current episode?. Also why would we want to archive the episode. Can we get the option to change it to marked as played like it was in the previous version. Thank you and keep up the good work.
GIJaneAusten's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I’ve tried SO many podcast apps, mostly free ones. I decided to give this one a try, even if it was a few bucks. It absolutely did not disappoint. It has every feature I’d been scouting for from other podcast apps. The UI is clean and easy. It has several playback settings/adjustments. I love the ability to organize my podcasts in a grid or list format, as well as in whichever order I like (I’ve got mine by color, ha). Also the Discover page is great and updates often. The most recent update (7.0) has made it even better 💯, and I’m grateful for the hard work the devs put into this app. 10/10 would recommend this app.
Droidattack's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
While I applaud the need to innovate, I think this update went a little too far. What’s broken: 1. Swiping right for adding to “up next” is tricky because swiping right on the edge takes you to the filter screen. 2. The upgrade wiped out my up next list so I mistakenly thought that functionality went away. 3. The filtering functionality seems funky and seems to be missing options. 4. The list of new episodes used to have a divider line or something between days. 5. What’s the green check mark for under the new episodes? 6. While reordering my “up next” list, the application changes back to a previous order while still on that screen. What works: 1. Core functionality is still there. 2. The little animation for downloads adding to up next is neat.
Graysonip's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Loved the PocketCasts app for years. Version 7 makes it far less functional. The update deleted the playlists(with NO warning), removed landscape viewing (useful for long episode titles), and took away the ability to set podcasts (rather than episodes) up next. Did you test this? Ask any users for feedback? It’s terribly disappointing as an update. Used to be a wonderful app.

I need to quickly mark eps as listened and delete. Please restore them. I can't even find how to do this in the new UI. This app is now unusable for me. Give me back the option to multi select episodes. I don't understand why this update would take AWAY functionality and usability. So frustrating and disappointing.

When I first updated to the latest release I found it a little confusing, but after messing around with the app for a few minutes I must say I absolutely love this update. To all of you that gave this update 1 star take 10 minutes to go through the various tweaks and configuration settings and I think you’ll change your mind. I’ve been using Pocket Casts since the beginning and the app just simply keeps getting better and better. Thanks devs!
Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimp's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
New version that just released is awful, DO NOT UPDATE DO NOT DOWNLOAD 1. It turns auto download back on silently, it just automatically downloaded 100 something podcasts during my ISP’s peak use period, ran over my bandwidth cap and has cost me $45 in overage charges 2. Much less intuitive design, they added a ton of clutter and wasted space, took me forever to figure out how to use again 3. All the one touch features that I loved and are THE REASON I BOUGHT THIS APP are GONE. Now you have to tap twice to open a submenu in each item to accomplish any action. Namely, that means you can’t quickly delete or download a given episode with one tap anymore, which is 90% of my use time in this app. Now this core workflow is slower, clunkier, and annoying 4. Streaming often fails outright on undownloaded episodes. You hit play, it appears to start downloading and streaming, but no audio plays. This bug is sporadic and maddening If you listen to podcasts all day with this app like I used to then avoid this version and find a better app, or just never update
BeepGirl's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
There are a few daily podcasts I listen to that I don’t want to catch up on if I miss them; I like to catch the current episode whenever and I’m fine with skipping the rest. It used to be possible to have only the most recent episode on the Up Next playlist, but it seems in the new version it’s leaving all of them in the queue. Disappointing.

antillies85's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Let me start by saying this is a great app overall. I originally purchased the app on my G1 Android phone and rebought it on iOS when I switched. Overall this is a fantastic app and integrations by the team into new features is great. However, the new update broke a few features I've come to depend on. First off, using a podcast filter and clicking play all on that list is incredibly important for me as I use the app in the car. Yesterday I had to click play on each video track to play, which is no good when you're driving. Also, the touch targets for the fast forward and rewind buttons are now smaller. I love the size of the buttons on Overcast because it's so easy to tap, especially when you are playing podcasts while driving. Finally, for some reason when I play video podcasts and one podcast finishes the next video on the list begins playing without video. I have to full screen the video or un-fullscreen the video in order to get the video to show. I still think the app is great but I'm used to a pretty hands off experience listening to podcasts while driving where the only thing I need to do is push fast forward every once in a while. These new changes make it very difficult for me to use the app for driving situations. Finally, it would be great to have a "next track" button that also marks the current track as played so it will be auto deleted. Or have two different fast forward buttons, one I can set for a short time frame and another I can set for a longer time frame. That way I can skip tracks and mark them as played, this queing them for deletion. Thanks for all the great work!

JRF_USA's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I loved this app for many years but now I really can’t use it. Suddenly with the newest version a very important setting is missing: It removed the setting for Auto Clean-Up!!!
SPIN360253's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
It takes me 5 minutes to build a playlist and download and organize my up next podcasts. This app has become a chore to use. Avoid until fixed. Ideally, there should be a switch in settings to bring back the old UI. This update reminds me of the horrible Snapchat update. I’ll be finding a new app until this is fixed.
margomartindale_superfan's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Great App until they removed the ease to download a bunch of podcasts in advance. I travel frequent and don’t have guaranteed internet service so having a clear list of downloaded podcasts is essential. Please put the download button back!

I don’t find the new update as user friendly as the controls I was used to. My playlist is gone, and most importantly I can’t control the numbers episodes I’m keeping by individual podcast. I used this feature to control my playlist; why is it gone???
Robtroxx's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Okay. My first review of this app; my only complaint was the lack of trim silence and vocal boost whilst streaming. PocketCasts 7 is too much of a update. What made this app stand out than the rest; were the simple and easy to use interface. It was the only podcast app I saw as worth your money. But the interface isn’t even simple anymore! It’s like the Apple podcasts app but with added features and themes. I paid money, so I feel I have to stick around. But if I had it back, I’d find another podcast app.
Yoda Melanie's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I have been using this app almost since it’s inception. One of its greatest assets was his ease-of-use. It did not try to pile on too much bells and whistle’s to get in the way of what this app is supposed to do: play podcasts. They are moving away from a simple swipe interface to button pushing. And sub menus. Which makes navigating difficult while doing other tasks like driving your car. The new interface also seems to be going after those with larger phone screens. Information that used to be easily seen is now tucked away. I understand them trying to jazz up the color interface however sometimes more is less. They were in unique podcast app and now it seems they are trying to mimic stitcher.
RJeff's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
I absolutely loved this app in the 3 years I’ve had it but this newest update has really spoiled it for me. The main problem is that it’s now an apple podcast clone, and I specifically bought this because it wasn’t that. They also changed where the playback settings for individual podcasts are - and on top of that, it erased all my specialty playback settings with the update. It’s also irritating to have to pick which “up next” you want, and I’m really disappointed that so many elements changed for seemingly no reason. I’m gonna keep using and hopefully they’ll (kind of) go back to the UI I loved.

jayflojo's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Difficult to navigate, cryptic gestures, and completely unintuitive. Can I not download single episodes of a podcast anymore? It looks like I either have to enable auto-downloads for that podcast, or stream it, neither of which is ideal. I just want to pick and choose what episodes I want to download for the day so I don’t have to worry about it when I’m away from WiFi. Tried looking through settings and help for more information about how to navigate this update, but the help materials weren’t very helpful. I feel like I need a tutorial to learn how to use this app now. This used to be my favorite app, and now I’m sad. You’ve made me sad.
Tom 2010's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 7:39 PM
Still the better podcatcher. They seem to have added closer widgets to more modal panels, not my preference but, hey. Marking an episode archived is now distinct from marking played so the app badge count labels have changed (unplayed means new and archived).

Breadnought's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 5:33 AM
I am not having the same extremely negative reaction some others are having, probably because I didn’t use many of the playlist features that have been removed. But I am really quite bummed that the way podcasts are fundamentally ordered has been changed. Before, if you had a podcast with an episode downloaded, it would always show up before any podcasts with no episodes downloaded. This allowed me to keep track of what I had yet to listen to, and to quickly see my backlog at the top of the screen. Now, ALL podcasts are sorted by release date regardless of whether or not you’ve listened to an episode already. I miss the quick swipe between the listening screen and the show notes screen, I miss the single swipe to archive a podcast or add it to my Up Next list (this is replaced with a swipe and a tap, or by a deeper swipe which feels unnatural to my small hands and muscle memory), and while I’m sure the new Archive feature will be helpful at some point in the future, I’ve mostly found that it saves podcast episodes that I’ve mostly finished and archived from the app at the last minute or so instead of starting them from the beginning when I redownload them. The redesign strikes me as one that was conceived by a team that either didn’t quite understand why their customers preferred this podcast app over another. Prior to this I was using Overcast, and Downcast before that. I switched from Overcast primarily because of Pocket Casts’ web player option which gave me the ability to move between my computer and phone somewhat seamlessly, and over time I’ve gotten used to Pocket Casts idiosyncrasies. But I’m starting to think it might be time to look elsewhere for my podcast manager fix.
SuppleLeopardGal's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 4:53 AM
They seem to have removed everything that made PocketCasts my favorite podcast app, and instead created an app that is harder to use, more cumbersome and FRUSTRATING!! The new controls are so small that it’s nearly impossible to use while driving, walking, etc. Too many touches are required to do things that in the last version involved swipes, and now require precise touch. The “add to up next” feature from the “new episodes” menu is GONE from the app altogether. It was previously accessed with a swipe and tap from the menu; now it requires that you open each episode to add to up next. Again, more hazardous to use when visual attention should be focused elsewhere. Variable speed settings are no longer saved for each podcast, and instead requires speed to be adjusted for each episode that plays. What’s the use of an auto-playing up-next list when it doesn’t play how I want it to? I have now sent two emails to support for these issues, but haven’t received a response.
Joe Tank's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 4:35 AM
Hundreds of podcast episodes that I have already listened to have popped back into my feeds because they haven’t been “archived”. It will take a lot of work to clean up my feeds. Not sure what they were trying to accomplish with this update, but the UI does look a little slicker
nycbob's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 4:34 AM
1. It got pretty confusing 2. The new search function within a podcast is excellent!! 3. I no longer know what is actually being stored on my device. Instead, we have ‘archive’. Uh... what is that? Why did you ditch auto cleanup? It was my favorite function. 4. Playlists are less clean to manipulate They’re a great team. They’ll fix it. They just bit off a little too much on this update...
Matsie's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 3:59 AM
The redesign makes the UI “look pretty” but it’s now difficult to navigate and use. This redesign was solely for aesthetic and not for utility. I’m really hoping they fix this otherwise, I’ll have to use a different podcast app.
AlexaEtCetera's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 3:43 AM
I loved Pocket Casts and used it for at least two years. I appreciated the fact that it would not crash despite the heavy load of podcasts I had (unlike Overcast). I also appreciated the ability to mark all backlog episodes of a podcast unplayed. The new update has now removed the ability to mass mark episodes as unplayed. This is a basic feature that all podcast apps should have. I will be deleting this and finding a new podcast app.

I love listening to BBC and NPR news updated every half hour and hour respectively. I had many news lists set to most recent episode only. Now, after the recent redesign, I am unable to to set lists to auto archive every pod except for the most recent and even with the daily archive option most of my lists are now littered with 50+ episodes! Help! (Also, I've used this app daily for years now and can say with certainty that it is the best podcast app available. I spent many frustrated years trying many apps intil I found Pocket Casts. I feel bad having to give three out of five rating, will update if an update fixes my issue or if the setting already exists somewhere that I did not notice.)

RDustinB's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 2:25 AM
I have been using Casts for years. The developers have added a lot of functions over the years but they only put stuff in that’s needed. I love them new v7 update! The developers kept the functionality of the previous version (easily see what I am subscribed to, organizational filters, playback options and a wonderful podcast browsing....library?) but then added fantastic streamlining of the whole layout. The app is even more intuitive to use now (I had no idea it even could be! Great work!) I also appreciate the developers taking a cue from the built in audio apps with the idea of the “card” for now playing and up next. Great function to mimic the function of. This is the golden standard for podcast apps and you should stop procrastinating and buy it now.

I’ve been using this app for a couple years now for my commute and have really enjoyed it. The most recent update is a major overhaul. I liked it at first but one thing I don’t care for is you can’t tell what you have downloaded. Also to see the description of the episode you have to click on the button on the bottom. The swipe left worked much better. Hope you keep up the good work!

I used to love this app. Even bought it when I went from Droid to iPhone. Version 7 ruined 90% of what made it great. Wish I could get my money back.

A pretty looking inconvenience.

was my favorite podcast app until the new ui update. now, stuff that was one long press or an easy swipe is now 3-4 different taps. it’s really annoying if i want to set up a podcast queue, or download a bunch of episodes in a row, which is why i switched away from apple podcasts in the first place. i hope future updates bring back the old interactions.

I’m so beyond disappointed with the update. They took away so much functionality that it’s almost unusable. I have auto downloads turned off but somehow it downloaded tons of podcasts and clogged up my feed. You can no longer “mark all as played” and I have to remove podcasts individually. In order to save time I tried to unsubscribe and subscribe again and it dumped all the podcasts available and showed zero available. I just don’t get what happened to this app! I’m going to uninstall this garbage app and get Overcast. I’m so disappointed since I’ve been using it for years. This update was so bad.

I rarely leave reviews. And I’m usually good rolling w app updates. But this app is TRASH now. And I LOVED it before for soooo long after apple drove me away from their horrible pod app. It’s confusing. It’s cumbersome. My iPhone app and iPad app aren’t syncing. I listen to an episode, delete it, return hours later and the episode is back. I set badges to show all pending or new eps. If I start an ep- even for a min or two only, the badge goes away. So, I can’t tell from the main screen which pods have eps if I start and stop an ep. If you are listening to a pod in chrono order (and are not current), good luck: your episodes that may be months or years old are mixed in in one big list with all the other eps. So you’re scrollin’ for a while...only solution I see is to make a note of the eps you want, ARCHIVE THE WHOLE POD COLLECTION, toggle ‘show archived eps’, then RE-DOWNLOAD the eps you want, then untoggle the view again. This is BONKERS. Am I missing something? All of this is terrible, but what irks me most is that I PAID for this dumpster fire of a pod app. I’ve emailed the app designers w some questions and have not heard back. Don’t expect to. If this app doesn’t update with sweeping improvements, I’m going elsewhere. Good riddance. I’d give it no stars, if I could. Crippling update for anyone who listens to a lot of pods.

Was amazing. But horrible update. Previously listened to podcasts no longer go to the bottom. I have to wade through every time? This is nuts.

I thought I was crazy when I opened up this update (aka downgrade). So I looked for my curated queue and saw more icons that I had to touch. “Intuitivity” just went poof. So I went to the recent 24-hour reviews and saw a sensible revolt. Huge disappointment here and just nonsensical. You should’ve added a tutorial with V7; instead you’re getting a lot of buyer’s remorse. Pocket Casts UI is a kindred spirit to Apple Podcasts now; nothing flattering there.

Really a one-star but I owe Pocket Casts for the years of being my far and away favorite podcasting app if not app, period. Now what was unique and intuitive looks like everything else, the result of trying to cut down the number of clicks to get to certain features without asking users of they didn't mind certain parts were tucked away so we could focus more on just listening to episodes. Now what worked so well I could open up and just hit play feels like an email inbox where I'm adding certain episodes, archiving others -- it's really distracting. I'm now hunting for alternatives to the app I use the most. Hoping things great rolled back

used to love, no idea what the last update did, but turned it into useless app
tleegreen3's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 1:41 AM
I had all my podcast set to only keep the most recent episode... now that seems to no longer be a choice. Now, all episodes are downloading... and staying... and taking up precious memory.
FernandoHilbert's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 1:26 AM
There’s another company running the app. And they ruined it. So sad. It was the most beautifully designed app out there. Now it is just the same as all other options. Terrible design changes. Terrible UX. Whats the point of that GIANT WHITE play/pause button? Oh boy. So sad. Don’t update if you are in the old good version.
gtex10123's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 1:12 AM
This app used to be the best podcast app in my opinion. The combination of simplicity and functionality really kept it a step ahead. The clean design was such a plus. Everything that was good about Pocket Casts is now been changed for the worse. They added extra steps to almost every action you take, from downloading to managing podcasts, as well as added clutter to much of the layout. Sadly I will need to find a different app for playing podcasts. Very disappointing update to say the least.
xtina928's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 12:53 AM
Thanks to this update, I now have a black bar across the bottom of my screen and am unable to access my play queue with a quick swipe. What gives? This update is unintuitive and I may have to switch to another podcast app.
Brando5's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 12:51 AM
Latest version: buggy. Can’t delete podcasts. Swiping to the right presents two options in blue. Huh? Swiping again presents an option in red - delete? Doesn’t. Confusing user interface. Terrible update.

NOT liking the new update, is it time to go back to Apple’s podcast app?! I hate it when people tinker with a good thing and make it much worse. Harder to find: recently downloaded podcasts, sleep timer, what’s downloaded and what needs to still be downloaded, and how to “play next” to a podcast. What was intuitive is now NOT, the exact reason I left apple podcast app.......please fix ASAP!!!!!

7.0 is more beautiful and easy to use. Thank you guys. It may make you podcasts ‘ And I some advice： 1. Make “filters” as the first icon is more convenient for me, I can listen to podcasts directly. 2. Put the “downloaded filters” in the “filters” please
sherkow's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 12:35 AM
And the patch note “cuteness” isn’t. More swipes to remove a podcast, less information while browsing through lists, more taps to play full screen, etc... Adding the playing of unsubscribed podcasts and not reinventing a UI that was good would have been a 5 star update.
Dieseldeac's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 12:28 AM
Make sure you force restart the app after the new update.
Darth Sarah's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 12:26 AM
This has been my favorite podcast app for years. I purchased it on android and then I purchased it again when I switched to iOS. But this new UI is truly terrible. I used to download all I played episodes and delete them as I listened. Now they just get archived. What is the point of the archive button?? Why can’t I delete episodes I’m done with anymore? Also when it updated, podcasts I had listened to completely reverted back to unplayed so I ended up downloading thousands of episodes over the course of a dozen podcasts. Also I used the downloaded filter so that I could listen to episodes that weren’t sequential in release date but it seems this function is gone as well. Looks like I will be moving to Overcast for my podcast needs. Very disappointed.

I’m not one that usually does reviews unless it blows me away positively or negatively. I’ve used pocketcasts for years and enjoyed it but this most recent major update completely ruins it. It’s not intuitive at all to me and it takes harder or more steps to do the same thing as before. Still a better podcast app than anything else imho but I’m not happy about this update...
JMClavet's Review of Pocket CastsReviewed on 11/16/18 10:01 AM
UPDATE: Since version 7 was released, I find myself itching to find another podcasts app again. Pocket Casts used to be my favorite app, mostly due to its simplicity. Now it reminds me of Apple's podcasts app (not a compliment) and is bloated by confusing features and UI changes that make it harder to use. I hope the developer gives users the option to revert back. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have been listening to podcasts for a decade now, and I have sadly seen the usability of the podcasts feature in iTunes decrease dramatically. In recent years, I have also seen the iOS podcasts app get more and more complicated and less and less usable. With the iOS 11 update, I had to jump ship from Apple Podcasts and find an alternative. If you love podcasts like I do, Pocket Casts is the app for you. It has a clean, simple, attractive, and intuitive interface, great options for customization, and a browser counterpart as well to listen from your desktop or laptop. I highly recommend this app to any podcast listener. A great value for the money.

Once i switched to this player, i found i was listening to more of whatever i felt like at that moment, missing fewer episodes, almost never having to stream (vs download), and spending zero time managing storage space

My goodness! Pocket Casts was always my favorite podcast client, but 7.0 just took it to a whole new level. Right now, it’s my favorite app, period. The new design refresh looks soooo good, and they’ve fixed many of the
