For years this was my go to app for sharing on Facebook my flight tracks. I was able to share my tracks and log my flight information so as to analyze my flights. This no longer an option since Facebook has changed their ip. Motion X is no longer a plyable app for sharing on Facebook. Hopefully Motion X will address this problem soon.

I don't use this app all the time, but it's so beautiful and I love looking at it. I've discovered things in my own neighborhood that other apps miss

Best. Program. Ever. I have used it in Israel, Black Rock City, LA, Tanzania and everywhere else. Flawless. This is a program that spoils you by working so well. If only everyone else could make their stuff this good...

Cannot say enough about how much I love this app. I don’t go on a hike or into the backcountry without it. I love that I can download the map, track my hike, and it integrates perfectly with my Wahoo HRM.

Great app, but zoom level is only till 18 which is not enough for high-quality map services. Please add support for zoom 20.

I stand corrected — As pointed out by the developer, the WiFi-only iPad does not contain a GPS. Accordingly, I’ve changed my rating to reflect my view of just the interface and the wealth of other features.

Oops. Didn’t realize this app won’t use the GPS on my WiFi iPad. Other apps (Google, Gaia, etc) don’t have this problem this, so I’ll use them instead. Too bad.

Great nav app, use it for overland up north. Amazingly it alway has all the forest roads and trails. Downloaded tracks for trip to Colorado and worked great....

I’ve been using MotionX GPS for a number of years, both with iphone and ipad. We use it for long dog walks in the neighborhood and more serious hikes in the mountains. It has so many options that you can customize it just the way you like. Highly recommended!

First of all, I have been comfortable going off trail in the Canadien Rockies and wilderness areas of the Pacific Northwest, and this well before the age of smartphones, or even s***** cell phones. That being said, I love the security and freedom this app gives me. Whether it is finding existing trails or heading out x-country, this beauty lets you know where you are at all times. And being able to record individual trips with all the relevant statistics just adds to the fun.

You can download maps and store waypoints. If you choose to shared them, it provides all the popular formats.

I love this app! I am a big fan of maps and love to be able to pre plan my travels. This app gives so many options to look at roads a terrain it's terrific. There have also been times I've needed to use the tape measure tool feature to measure distances direct from oneoint to another. This feature works great. Lots of great tools and many different maps to use all in one app !

The only app that I use for all my navigation

This is a great app. Only thing it needs is the ability to show current speed versus posted speed. Already emailed the developer requesting it. Otherwise love the app. The large button interface is great. If you're wondering if it's worth the cash. It is. The ability to save your breadcrumbs is great.

I loved this app so much on the iPhone that I bought the iPad version. I have been using the iPhone version since v.4 so luckily I had some experience with the app before hand. I still love it and use it a lot to map our hiking adventures. How ever if you have never used this app before, be patient. It has a lot of features and will take some time to figure them all out. 2 thumbs up for this app (for both iPhone and iPad apps)

I have been using this app for years, and suddenly I can't update to the new version getting a message that I didn't purchase the app with my current credentials. That I not the case, and I have sent THREE messages to customer service with NO response over a two month period. I'm gone. Using Navigon now, which seems more functional anyway. It was a good product, but they lost the bubble on who the customer is.

Worthless unless you have cell service it seemed.

As a flight instructor, I use this App to create a track of my flights with students. After the flight, we review it together, looking to see where, for instance, better wind correction techniques would hold a better course line. Being able to then email the track to them is a great feature. A fantastic App all around. Highly recommended.

I admit I have been bugging them about fixing the waypoint folder naming and they did. Now I need to go back and sort all of my data points. This is a great app to use outdoors and superior to a lot of the map gps knockoffs. I use the app with Bluetooth connect to a Delorme inReach and it works great with downloaded off line maps. There are a lot of little things this app does that the others don't - like label the push pins. Again fantastic app!

MotionX has remained my main way-finding app since it first appeared on the Apple App Store. Superb tool!

It's not supported anymore, period... When's the update coming? Dec 10, 2014 update Most significant Apps have updated at least once since iOS 7 came out. We still can't make folders! Are you working on this? You should be embarrassed.

Meets and exceeds all GPS expectations, and THEN some!!

I used to use this for long distance when I had very few waypoints, but ended up having to go with a different app. I've had this app for well over a year and have been waiting on what would be the most crucial update...WAYPOINT customization and a few other additions. The blips, almost cartoon like, clutter the screen especially when your in an area with a bunch of way points together. It would be great to change the size to either a small dot or just something smaller. Additionally an option to not let your waypoints bunch together when zoomed out. Much like a kmz or kml file works with Google earth add a way to tap to turn on/off waypoints in the navigational panel on the left would be quite a feature as well, especially on the fly. I would even pay more money to add these features. And of course, the most amazing feature for tactical guys would be the screen snap shot and save as file, with option to transfer, email, etc. Route creation and storage along with the easy to turn on off on the navigational pane. So close to being an amazing app but dropped the ball. Really still hoping they make these additions as an expansion pack... I would drop 15 bux on this easilly. Devs if your reading this, your so close man...

Nicely done and very useful. I use it wherever I go. Only problem is that I loose downloaded maps when iPhone is restored

Never finds GPS satellites, while all other apps can immediately get location. Maps never fully download. Tried across multiple network connections.

Excellent program Just hooked up my new ipad3 and it ,the program,works great!

I use this app the most out of the half dozen or so I have tried. Probably the best choice but still a few flaws as others have mentioned.

I HAVE A XGPS160 BLUE TOOTH GPS (one of the best gps units). THIS APP WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE BLUE TOOTH UNIT.

On the iPhone version there is a “Map Rotation” setting that allows you to disable the two finger map rotation feature… why is this not on the iPad version? This is a FANTASTIC app but in a bumpy aircraft, when zooming in or out its almost impossible to keep from twisting and rotating the map… so frustrating!!

Bought app for my iPad mini 3 based on the app's claim that the device was supported. WRONG. Only iPads with the cellular chipset are supported...an important distinction. Failure to make that obvious is a bad business practice, in my opinion.

I keep finding new uses for this app. I recommend it to walkers, hikers, photographers, and vehicle travelers - great for knowing where you are and where you've been.

Been using it to track running, cycling, and flights in my small plane since the first iPhone, and it keeps getting better. I'm hoping I'll soon be able to start and stop Motion-X GPS tracking from my Apple watch Workout app without having to do it separately in each app.

This is a fantastic App, I'm filming a wildlife documentary on lions in the Matusadona foothills of lake Kariba, and it's great for marking waypoints adding notes and photos, downloading maps for offline viewing. Just a brilliant app, just wish my phone or iPad had the battery life match!

Rely on it everyday for my work as a Forester. My iPad isn't cellular but I can download satellite imagery the day before & have full access to them all day in the woods. Works fine with Garmin GLO. I do agree with 1 Review that the waypoint flags are too big & annoying. Updates are over-due!!

I bought this app to use as a plotter for fishing around the bay and coastal areas. Wow is it great. I downloaded the NOAA maps for my intended fishing area (so that I can use them when I am outside cell or wifi coverage areas.) and it works fine. The maps do take up a lot of space on your ipad so you need some storage. The settings for downloading the maps are a bit ambiguous but in a nutshell, the farther apart the sliders are on the download page, the more you can zoom out/in. You should see what i mean when you try to download the NOAA maps. You do need to use a cellular capable ipad to be able to use GPS as the wifi only models do not have the GPS chip in them. Also, the ipad screen is not very bright in sunlight and you need to look pretty closely to see some of the smaller objects but for such an inexpensive app it does a great job as an economy or back-up plotter.

Performs as designed and advertised ... Absolutely recommend this app.

I use it for overland and boating inland and it works perfectly.

This has all the bells and whistles and is a great GPS app. One suggestion for a future release: In aviation; we are frequently reporting our position on the radio relative from a waypoint (e.g. 10 miles southeast of (x) at 3,000 feet). It would be great to have a field among the navigation options in the track recorder fields that would return an intercardinal direction (e.g. SE) FROM a waypoint in addition to the current option of displaying a bearing TO a waypoint. Thanks!

Very capable app if you pay the extra to be able to download custom maps. The only downside is the slow download speed for maps when you won't have internet connectivity.

I've been using Motion-X GPS on my iPhone for a couple years now, and I love it! It gives me accurate information on my hikes, and allows me to compare distances and degree of difficulty.

This is a great app! Have it on my iPad for using gpx waypoints on my off-roading trips. Excellent!

I hope the marine set up becomes fully approved. It seems to track very well on the NOAA charts and I am running this and the Garmin Blue Chart side by side.

I love this app! You get so many map options: Google, Bing and Apple in Road, Terrain, Satellite and Hybrid versions. It even has the NOAA Marine map as an option. You can also easily measure the distance from any point to another point (while also getting the latitude & longitude for each point, plus the direction/heading in degrees). You can setup as many waypoints as you want, and then organize them into as many folders (which you name yourself) as you want. I have 100+ waypoints organized this way. AND it lets you record the tracks/routes of trips (by car or plane) you made, recording along the way many custom variables, including, for example, your speed (average & maximum), altitude, total ascent & descent, distance travelled & time. It also display the track you took on the map. Like the waypoints, you can setup as many tracks as you want, and then organize them into as many folders (which you name yourself) as you want. Overall, an excellent app. I give it five stars.

I was terrified I was going to lose this app to IOS updates! I use it every single day (no exaggeration), and I live it's UI, rich feature set, flexibility, diverse tools, layer system, importable/exportable waypoints, and especially the downloadable maps. I'm ever so great full for the update and cant wait to continue to enjoy the best $5 I ever spent on an app. I use it for hiking, bicycling, general outdoor navigation, tracklogging, road trips, plane trips, just about everything. You guys rock!

I've used this all over the world, downloading OpenMaps to avoid roaming charges on multiple trips outside the US and always knowing where I am. Great user interface, reliable and stable. I would be literally lost without it.

Very comprehensive app. Fast and intuitive. Maybe just needs an interface update but otherwise perfect.

This app is extremely helpful when tracking a balloon. After setting up a helium balloon to get the wind bearing it has been very helpful to determine where the balloon will end up at the end of a flight.

I've been using this app for a very long time, and it would be a shame if it stopped working due to a lack of updates. Please give it the level of care that it deserves.

This is probably, hands-down, the best GPS plotting app for iPads. That said, it's gone since 2014 without an update and will stop working in a future iOS update if the developer does not update it for 64-bit compatibility. Here's hoping that we get even just a maintenance update to keep this app alive.

MotionX has apparently abandoned this app, no updates in two years, in fact it is not even on their website anymore. The original product worked extremely well; however, it's development has halted and the company has left many users who paid for this app expecting this product to mature with some basic options sadly disappointed. Don't waste your time or $$$ on this abandoned app.

It was a fantastic app. Getting a little old. The latest update has my current position off by about 50 ft. I will continue using it, but I think it will not get better.

Awesome app

Thank you for the 64 bit upgrade. This program is used extensively by members of an Arizona Search and Rescue Unit and we are grateful for the support. Excellent custom maps, great tracking, waypoints and sharing. So much easier to see on an IPad than a 3 inch handheld.

For tracking my trips this app is great, connects without any problem to my external Bluetooth GPS receiver. I like the fact it track without the screen being on.

Thank you for version 22.1. I have always loved this top-notch application, but I was having a few problems with it on my iPad Pro 10.5". This latest version seems to have resolved those problems nicely.

I hiked across Scotland from the west coast little town Helensburgh to the east coast little town Dunbar. The whole trail is about 150 miles and took me ten continuous days to finish. I installed MotionX to both my iPhone and iPad, which does not have GPS chip set and was meant to be used as simple zoomable map with display larger than iPhone. I like MotionX very much. 1. The user interface operates very smooth, not jumpy like many other Digital maps. 2. When downloading maps you have much better control on zoomin factor, zoom out factor, route/area control so you download exactly what you need. You keep the maps until you want to delete them. Rather, offline Google Maps expired in 29 days. 3. You can import/export tracks and waypoints via GPX files. I imported the ten-days track I needed from a Scotland hiking webpage that lead my hiking so smoothly. 4. The feature I liked the most is that MotionX on iPad communicates via Bluetooth with my inReach to get current location so it seems I had GPS chip set in my iPad. For all the ten days I did not need to use iPhone any more. IPhone would have run out battery very soon when GPS is on. InReach has much much better battery usage efficiency.

I've used it for several years now and it's the one app I depend on when navigating or planning trips. It answers things we want to know such as how high are we in altitude on this mountain and how far are we from our destination now? I like the ability to change map types on the fly to view other features. Thanks so much for making it available! As of 7-27-17, I see there was finally an update. I hope it will continue to function as well and even better. My wish is to have MORE WAYPOINTS. I like to keep track of places we have visited, things I wonder about, and each turn we have coming up. I am loathe to delete any afterwards!

This is an awesome app. I switched from IOS to Android devices about 3 years ago, and this app is the only reason why I have kept an iPad. I live in remote Africa, and have downloaded offline maps to my iPad, as a lot of my travels take me through remote areas with no cellphone coverage. I help annually with a 200 mile off-road bike race with routes that traverse through 6 game reserves full of dangerous wild animals - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant etc. I have uploaded the bike route with tracks, waypoints etc via kmz and gpx files. Perfect !!!!! Much better using my large iPad to navigate with than a small GPS.

Easy to use and effective.

They took away opencyclemaps and replaced it with some useless map of their own. Now you have to pay $5 to get something back which is open source. Goodbye MotionX!

Love this app, use it for off road riding in our UTV & haven't got lost yet.

Too bad it's no longer updated. This is the third or fourth GPS app I've used and liked for outdoor activities, and it was probably the best of the bunch. Then it faded away, just like all the others. Each time these apps go away I have to migrate years of accumulated tracks/data to a replacement GPS app, and despite the iCloud (or other cloud backup) data inevitably gets lost or corrupted. I give up. GPS Apps ARE ALL GIMMICKS (again, my comments are directed just to the GPS apps for outdoor activities). If you want a reliable GPS tool for the outdoors that will provide years of dependable service, you are much better off spending the bucks for a real dedicated satellite GPS unit like a Garmin, Magellan, etc..

For fishing and interesting photo objects or viewpoints.

The title says it all. I've never seen another this good and so easy to use.

I have used the MotionX-HD app for the past 5.5 years, to navigate in Europe, Scandinavia, Iceland, Canada, Mexico, and the US. Generally speaking, I find some need to use the app nearly everyday, on my iPad or iPhone. I have used MotionX-HD when flying general aviation aircraft, whitewater rafting, rowing, plus street level navigation in multiple cities around the world, including a Norwegian Fjord Cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes. For recording trip data anywhere in the world it is great, and the choice of background maps is fantastic. I've been using it for several years and find it satisfies my needs.

I use this app on an iPad Mini 2 while on road trips; I find it to be indespensible. I love the graphics. It is desperately in need of an update! I get warnings from my operating system that it is slowing down my iPad. I asked a year ago for them to add transparent live radar on top of the nav screen. No word back. I will try again. I paid $5 for a Garmnin Live Weather subscription for my Nuvi, hoping for this feature. It is a joke - to get radar the screen switches to another base map screen that will not zoom in below 12 miles to the inch. What garbage! Nobody navigates at that scale! Please, let's have a fully functional radar overlay on this app, at all zoom levels! UPDATE THE DARN THING! John Davies Spokane WA

I have had this app forever. I don't remember, can't find, for how long. Six years for sure, probably 10. I use it more for creating maps than following maps. I am on my 3rd iPad with it. I use it with a Bad Elf pro as well as the iPad internal GPS. I currently have about 9Gigs of reference maps & stored data on it. I often use the in app purchase of map server downloads. I have even created an in-house map server. I do wish that it could incorporate the baro altimeter data from the Bad Elf. Now that I no longer own ArcGis this is definitely my goto mapping software. I also own the street version that I used in Spain in 2012. Things that I would like to see added ? Image export in *.psd. Fewer clicks to go from finding an existing track or waypoint. A better layer management. "Show All" & "Hide All" are not enough when juggling multible overlapping tracks. And a "merge track" and "break track" option would be GREAT ! Perhaps they exist and I have yet to discover how to do it. Thanks for a great and affordable tool. dennis lee Trabue 2017/05/04
