Will give 5 stars when Active Captain is integrated... they’re saying this fall, I believe. Otherwise, this is a must have for any boater. It’s fast, accurate and has incredible detail... love the sonar depth gradients.

I use this app for two boats (30ft Fishing Boat and 52ft Trawler... what would make it perfect, would be weather radar overlay like the Garmin App... It’s better than the Garmin App, but not having weather real-time radar overly is a HUGE miss.

This app is simply the best there is. I navigate KY lake and Barkley lake without fear day or night. I have found the accurracy to be with a few feet of the bouys. I only use my spotlight occassionaly to double check as a backup. It has never let me down and no close calls.

I have over 100 apps on my iPad. This is the best one...and it isn't even close. I purchased it yesterday, took it on my boat today on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, and took the boat to places I would not have dreamed of going due to concerns over depth. Reading paper charts is something I can do, but I was always worried my inexperience would end up causing me to run aground as I was exploring out of the way spots. As a result, I didn't go places I wanted to go. No longer! The Navionics was so dead-on accurate, I was in the little inlets and coves I would never have gone previously. Today's exploring alone was worth the $50 I paid. I will never be on the lake again without it. Thanks for a GREAT app!

Nice app, charts included, fast on the new iPad, lots of information included on services etc. To be useful, this app MUST have the capability to save routes/waypoints and export them to legacy chart plotters at least as a list - otherwise, it's just a very neat and expensive app.
Dakiner's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 12/16/18 1:21 PM
There is no course up feature with this app. This makes the app useless for navigation. Waste of money. It's months of the same story from navionics....that feature is in the works, it's coming, complete B.S.
Experienced Capt.'s Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 12/16/18 1:21 PM
Navionics has corrected the errors that I identified. The app now seems to be functioning correctly. If you see depth problems with your version... Go to the menu and select "Download Map". Select the area of interest. I have no idea why it doesn't alert you to new maps being available automatically.

L0KEMAN's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 12/16/18 1:21 PM
Best app hands down for the water. It lets me look around for places to put in and see places I think will be good to fish. Then I can mark areas and take pics of the aarea and my catches. It needs a little polish and shine like more icons and photos need to store on the server so when I look on the iphone app, they would be there too. The ability to shoot pics and location info to another user would be good too. It uses google maps for overlays, but doesn't save them, so you have to have a solid connection if you want to use features like that. Overall, it's a great app. It uses REAL maps, not zoomed in pictures of maps like other inferior apps. The info on the maps is accurate and fairly current. The app is a lot less than it used to be and is a good enough deal now too.
C36@H24's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 12/16/18 1:21 PM
Would not buy this app again. Just completed a 240 mile cruise of southern Chesapeake Bay using this app for planning purposes. While OK for basic point to point route planning, the Navionics maps have serious flaws that make them unsuitable for anything else. Typical problem is disappearance of Navaids in creeks and rivers at smaller scales, exactly where they're needed to refine courses and routes. Names of land features, rivers, and creeks likewise disappear at smaller scales, making it difficult to know just where you are on the charts. Editing route names is maddeningly difficult, requiring constant "taps" on the screen to register changes. Screen went black several times, requiring complete reboot of the system. I registered these complaints using the app's feedback tool, so far with no reply or response.

This GPS app for my iPad works excellent. The maps are detailed and accurate and it looks great on the iPad screen. I use it anywhere from 1 mile to 30 miles offshore and the reception of the iPad GPS was flawless. It was very useful when the GPS on my boat stopped working due to corrosion of the wires. I purchased a waterproof case for my iPad and I was good to go. If I could find a permanent mount for it on my boat I would just use this. It's a must by for any boat owner in my opinion. I

I just downloaded this app for both my iPad and iPhone because I may not always have my iPad on me-I pretty much ALWAYS carry my iPhone. I work on boats for a living and also move boats for customers via the great lakes so for me having good aids to navigation is a must and both of these appear to fit that bill. I suspect that these will replace my garmin handheld I carry with me when I am movings customers boats. I really like the detail and information embedded in the maps, and not having to have a cell signal to make the maps work will be great on the open water. Easy routing certainly is a plus, too. I would encourage anyone looking for marine navigation to buy this/these apps.

The charts are great. It needs more display work. Needs a heading and distance display to the next waypoint. Needs a course up display. Needs a better way to save routes and waypoints. I like the products this company makes (this would be the fifth product of theirs that I have bought), but this was a disappointment . I hope they update it quick so I can change my mind on this and not feel ripped off! Don't buy as it stands!

I've been using Navionics for a few years in the Caribbean, Europe, and the northeast US. Now we are heading down the ICW and every time I try to plot a route it states "too many waypoints." No dear why as I have only the start and finish set. Automatic routing no longer adjusts to my input but instead keeps it's route and backtracks your changes. Not sure what you did to ruin the best app ever but you managed to make me and my husband hate it now. Going to be looking at other options as we are heading down to the Bahamas and I want routes that work.
bob423's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 11/4/17 8:57 PM
A professional navigation app with the best charts (accuracy, auto updating, 1 ft contours) of all the apps. Pros: 1 - Three types of charts are available in this one app - NOAA ENC charts (electronic) called Gov't In app - Navionics' own charts - SonarCharts with data from users uploaded automatically to Navionics. The charts have 1 ft contours and over the last two years have become very accurate, for the ICW especially. 2 - Tide and current stations are included and can be tuned to a future point in time (for when you will reach a shallow spot). 3 - The charts are updated every week or so, not once a year like most apps. 4 - You can make your own charts with one foot contours with an appropriate sounder (about $150), it’s a unique capability. Once created, they can be stored with Navionics which will then make them available for everyone. 5 - You can enter your boat speed, gal/hr, and it will track keep track of your fuel usage and predict it before setting out. 6 - I has an auto-routing feature when starting and ending points are entered. Cons: 1 - Importing of routes in GPX format (or any format) is not supported for direct downing into the app. The lack of this feature is the only reason for a 4 Star rating instead of a 5 Star. 2 - No Active Captain support. 3 - The display of vessel position while underway has a “hicup”. The screen updates of vessel position causes the entire screen to jerk (momentarily shift) , it’s distracting,

Old version was by far the best boat nav App going...I used it all the time instead of my Ray Marine E-120...also recommended it to all my boating friends. However, the new version is terrible...it freezes often and many times it doesn't even come up at all...clearly it needs to be reworked to restore its old reliability

I purchased this so I could use my IPad to back up my Raymarine GPS unit. I found it will not plot positions or speed, etc. because my IPad does not have a built in GPS receiver. I assumed all of them did. It doesn't work even when my IPad is connected to my IPhone via Bluetooth. It does work brilliantly on my IPhone, but definitely not very convenient. I'm disappointed they did not mention this in the description or specs. John

I expected more from this $50+ program and add ons. The auto route is nothing more than a straight line from waypoint to waypoint; thus, a manual edit/route is always needed. The program also seems to rely on wifi over GPS. The hd version isn't worth the additional $30 in my opinion. The $15 version I have on one of devices is great, though, and seems to have all the bells and whistles the more expensive program has.

This is a terrible beta test being foisted off as an update. The ability to transfer routes, and waypoints has been REMOVED, supposedly to be replaced by sonar logging at some point in the future. That’s right, they removed one of the best features for one that doesn’t work yet! You can no longer upload your routes created on the iPad to Raymarine wireless equipped chart plotters and MFD’s. Truly hard to believe, but check their Facebook page and they admit that the new features don’t work at this time. Navionics should at least make V6 available for those who want to go back to functional software.

When I upgraded my I-Pad to iOS-7, I was forced by Navionics to convert from their excellent older version of US East Coast charts to their current, more expensive app, as the previous app would not run on the new operating system and was no longer supported by Navionics. The current version is GARBAGE! Do not waste your money. It is very difficult to use. It does not zoom easily and is generally cumbersome. I want charts for basic navigation. I do not need or want magazine articles or other useless junk cluttering up the app.

FittingRoomStudio's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 11/16/18 2:04 PM
I have a mount for my iPad on my boat and I find this app easier to use than my new, Garmin GPS system. However, it would be a 5 star app if they offered a few features such as: 1. Course "up" - It can be a little confusing when heading south trying to follow a course as your turns are backward, if they offered a course up mode it would alleviate that issue. 2. Tracking - It doesn't reposition itself if you move along the course route. It would be great to have that option so you don't have to keep moving the map by hand. 3. Offset - If they offered an automated tracking option, they should also provide an offset so you can have more map in front of the boat if you preferred. Otherwise it works great and I like it, but I strongly suggest that Navionics include the above features if they truly want to make this a great app.

E-mail offered free Navionics Boating app and start a one week free trial to the overwhelming value of Navionics Boating Dock to Dock Autorouting. Problems: 1. Navionics website offered MANY software packages. I had to make a gut decision on what package I needed and decided "Boating USA HD" appeared to serve my needs. (It Does) 2. Downloaded the software and was immediately billed without any offer of a free trial. 3. Your e-mail gave a step by step procedure to access dock to dock auto routing. This procedure is confusing in teh software, although "autorouting" appears to fill the bill. 4. I like the software although it would have been nice to check it out through the offered, but not delivered, free trial. However, your HELP instructions on how to use the software is very weak and the many obvious good features of the software are difficult to understand. HELP could use some serious improvement.

ChesapeakeWeather's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 11/16/18 2:04 PM
Please Navionics, you've got to implement the very basic route list sort function by alphabetizing the list as the default or at least as an option. The ones you have are nearly useless and far less valuable than the most simple. Please, please, please make this change and soon. I've created routes using this app for years and the manual method worked great. The original auto route was bad, but the new update is terrific in that it actually creates a safe route instead of over land like it did when it 1st came out. It just needs a list display method that makes sense to locate the routes we create.

The app is outstanding considering the price. I think were all spoiled now days. There is one feature that I wish they would add. Maybe I'm missing something but you should be able to manually add markers and their coordinates. I realize you can touch the screen to add a point but lets say someone gives you coordinates and you want to add them, not possible as far as I know. My only complaint really.
RobertKWFL's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 11/16/18 2:04 PM
Navionics is my preferred marine chartplotting app, but the current version crashes frequently. It's very disconcerting--and potentially dangerous--to have your chart plotter suddenly freeze and close when you need it. Until Navionics comes out with a more stable version, I suggest using Garmin's app.
claytongroup's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 11/16/18 2:04 PM
Even though I felt it terribly unfair that I had to spend $49.95 a SECOND time since my original Navionics app would not work on IOS7, I found the new version very inferior. I solely use the St. John's River portion and my immediate observations are: A. Most buoy numbers are not shown on the chart B. Depths are missing on many areas where they were on the last version. I have not used the app actively on my boat, but I expect that the Speed and Distance Log will appear as they had on the previous version. Otherwise, this app is not useful and I am sorry I purchased it.

This had been my favorite app...until this update. The screen is massively cluttered, it uses large circles for waypoints that do not resize when zooming out or in, there is not an easy "undo", it is difficult to see where you are because there are too many things cluttering the screen, and once you select a setting it is unclear how to deselect it, and there is no starting over. Hate this "upgrade"...sorry I spent my hard earned dollars.

I bought this app to cruise around Gulf of Mexico near shore waters. The problem is at most scales Navionics shows the hundreds of lease block squares and data and there is no way to turn them off. This completely obscures the bottom contours and is just generally annoying. With iNavX you get to choose the chart you wish to display sans or with lease block data. Not worth the money. This could have been a useful app if not for the constant stream of adds promoting other Navionics apps. The adds are quite disruptive while you are trying to work with the charts. You either have to stop and tap the close box or wait 10 seconds or so for the add to scroll off the screen. Let me be clear, this is not just at start up issue. The adds stream the entire time the app is open. I'm sure they would continue to stream even in you bought the apps they are pitching. This is inexcusable in an app that costs $50. Please do not encourage this behavior. Do not buy this app unless Navionics removes the adds.
Saorsail's Review of Boating Usa HdReviewed on 11/16/18 2:04 PM
Does anyone at navionics use this app? The system used to display your routes in alphabetic order by name. No longer. Imagine that you have 75 routes built. You have two options to set the order that routes are presented: date created or length (no alphabetic order). So you have to know the date that you created the route to find it in your list - which is ridiculous. Or you must know the length of the route you created to find it - what is Navionics thinking? I have no problem with those two options if there is an alphabetic display order option, but to have only those two options is indicative that they just don't get it.

I sail frequently, mostly in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I bought this app (I have nearly all the marine navigation apps for the iPad) for the sonar feature, as my boat draws five feet, which is a lot for this area. I was immediately impressed by the added data I now had to help me navigate shoals, etc.; however, when I tried to go deeper into the features and asked Navionics for a manual I could print, they told me I was limited to the built-in help or on-line FAQ. The help section has NO illustrations, no screen shots, ONLY text. They'd tell you to click on a button, for example, (GPS, I think, being one), and there'd be no button with that name. For fifty dollars, you shouldn't have to spend a lot of time puzzling things out on your own. I found one video review on the web that actually was more helpful than anything Navionics has done, but the review was for an earlier version and certainly wasn't intended to be exhaustive in detail. I'll keep plugging away, as I do also like the on-screen trip distance tracking, and will update this review if I start feeling better about the purchase.

I bought this software mainly so I could sync routes with my raymarine E125/127 displays. A week or so ago, Navionics released an update that disabled the sync feature. It may take months for them to reinstate it (i.e., next season!!). I would not recommend that anyone spend money on this app until it's fully baked. Hopefully that happens soon!

Don't waste you $$$$. 1. The routing line is so wide it covers the information you need to see on the chart. 2. The red line vessel course line is also in the way and covers info you need to see. 3. The heads up mode shows all writing including the marks upside down...who engineered this??? 4. The upgrade to the AUTOMATIC ROUTING is a joke. It takes you over land and through cities. I am thankful that I purchased the Garmin Blue Charts as a backup. I used them for the entire length of the ICW as well as the Bahamas without a glitch.

This app is very cool. It shows very good detail and is a good value. The only drawbacks I've seen are the following: 1) it's not clear to me exactly what the in app purchases are giving me. In particular, the subscription. I'm not sure if that's just map updates, or greater detail. 2) the geography covered is not really clear. I've spoken with tech support and they are going to improve this in the future.

Good functionality on iPad. Can’t get raymarine Wi-Fish sounder to connect. Also, app does not show up in purchased list on iPhone X. Looks like I need to purchase to add a device but App Store said up to 6 devices on family sharing.

I have used many of the "marine navigation" apps here in App Store. Navionics is the best by far, period. Listen I keep seeing Active Captain in reviews. First off I use AC and have to be honest it ain't that good nor do many update the listings. Anyhow Navionics has community edits which acts just like active captain but is updated by folks more often. In addition, don't rely on these in app bookmarks anyway! After Hurricane Irma much has changed! I prefer Navionics app because of the ease of use, compatibility (device) and the fact that more than 2000 updates occur daily! As for apps like iNavX; why buy an app then buy charts, that is stupid! Last, if you can read charts then you'd know why this app is the best hands down! If you do not know how to read charts, or think you do go to NOAA website and find chart No. 1 to learn or increase your chart knowledge. I'm sick of the stupid reasons people put 1 or 3 stars for an app that is obviously the best marine Navigation in the App Store! The app isn't full of crap, it's a charting app and should not be used by itself!! Buy paper charts and review updates to the charts before every trip then use your Navionics or whatever to plot a course for a visual reference in real time! None of these apps can replace your eyes! Keep a look out. Thanks..
