I am a full time ocean mariner. I originally paid the one time fee for this app for lifetime charts. It is not ok to renig on our deal and wipe my charts. For those paying annually, you may be at sea someday and find that your charts have been suddenly wiped from your device at expiration. It happened to me. This is a severe safety issue and is unethical. I’ve since discovered there are other great chart apps, none charge annually.

I used to really like this app but it doesn't keep a continuous track on a longer passage. They tell me it's supposed to automatically save a current track and automatically start a new track when it reaches its waypoint limit. It doesn't, meaning I lose my tracking data. Repeated emails to support have gone unaddressed. No support, no fixing, I'm outta here. Use another app if you're doing longer passages.

If you are looking to sail in the Bahamas then keep looking for another app. This one does not have any detail. :-(

I used this as my primary navigation device for our 7 day sail in the BVI's. This app on the IPad was a constant/necessary companion to the helmsman whenever we were moving. The GPS on-board was out of service and the handheld was of little practical use. This app never failed us and ultimately made our trip much more enjoyable. I would like to see the interface adapted to the IPad and also suggest that an export utility be included for routes and tracks. All in all worth the money...

This was purchased with ios4 and worked well but there were some good things missing. Since ios5 and the upgrades to Navonics the program has been mostly unusable in the South American charts. It will not load in and function without a constant connection and with a wifi connection it says often the connection failed! IMHO do not purchase this at this time. Just fired the program up again after about a month and it is an all black screen! Run don't walk away from this program!!!!

I bought this app thinking it would help us navigate the Caribbean on, you know, a boat? Bad idea. There are no depth soundings. None. And no contour lines. We already had the chart plotter app on the boat- also from Navionics -since it covers the SAME AREA, I thought it would have similar information. Wrong again. I'm not sure who's the target audience here, but it's about as useful for the Caribbean as a NYC subway map, without the interesting graphics.

When you buy & download the app, you get only a course-grained base map. You have to manually download chart details for the area you are interested in. This is free, but is limited to a very small rectangle at a time. For example, my first rectangle extended from La Paz, Baja Sur, Mexico to Mazatlan. I had to do several more rectangles to get from San Diego to Manzanillo. At this pace, I'm guessing it'll take about 3 to 4 hours of my time to download all of the charts to which I am entitled as a result of the purchase. Come on, Navionics, give us a "download all" option, and I'll give you not only more stars, but another $50 for the US & Canada product.

I have used the US version for boating in the Chesapeake Bay for over a year. Works perfect. Not only is it a great backup for your hard wired GPS, but it offers an easier user interface. Just rented a 474 powercat from The Moorings in the BVI's. The Caribbean version worked perfectly. A must have.

I was downloading quite a few maps so I could have them offline. While downloading the maps the app crashed on a regular basis, but would always restart. After I got about 50% of the Central and South America coastline downloaded the app again crashed and now when it starts no map appears and the app crashes again after 30 seconds or so. This is a very unreliable chart rendering program, which is unfortunate because Navionics provides some of the best maps available.

This is my mea culpa - I initially gave this app a negative review, but it wasn't the app's fault. This app is AWESOME - I bought the ipad and the software because the charts for my journey (SAN to AUA via the Panama Canal) would have cost over 1k if I'd bought the C-MAP NT+ versions. The info in this software is better - and the display faster - than my chartplotter. If you have an ipad and intend to use it as a chartplotter, BUY THIS! You can download the ENTIRE region, you just have to do it 25 gigs at a time.
