Cool sustained sounds. Still trying to figure it out. I like Bloom's more piano-like soundscapes more

I am really discovering some nice results. Can we look forward to streaming to an airport express? The ability to listen on the home stereo and still have my phone close by would be Devine. Thank you.

Hasn't been updated in forever - I love this app

If you like Eno's ambient work I can't see how you would be disappointed by Bloom, Trope or Air. They are all winners and completely worth the meager price.

Though I've only seen demos of Bloom from online reviews, I suspect Trope is a far more intelligent and sophisticated generative music engine. The result is that it takes your input and reworks it endlessly if not literally, thus offering longevity and thematic variation. With its variety of tone, timbre, and mood, Trope is capable of producing real - truly beautiful - music either on its own or with input from you. Well done!

...there wasn't that damned repeating piano riff in the background. If I wanted that, i'd just play bloom. Please update this app w/o the background lead, it's so undermining of what the user can do. Think Eno!

My favorite of the three Eno apps. It allows you more control than the others, especially when holding a touch and dragging it about. Visually mesmerizing. Rich sound quality. A must have!

What's worse, it wasn't cheap and does nothing and doesn't even show up in my purchases. There are all these moods you can choose only they've obviously been deactivated. What a sad mess.

Elegant app, sonically and visually. Why this stokes deep associations I don't expect to know. No lack of craft.

Well it's okay I guess I kind of expected more out of a Brian Eno app-definitely needs more options like copy paste music file, there's no way to save anything you create also the sounds are all pretty similar, it's alright to sleep to but really needs a lot more options and some moods that are actually different.

This is one of my favorite apps. However, I am having some trouble with this as well as Air and Bloom and how they work in iOS6 on my iPod Touch. The sleep timer, which I have never had a problem with, doesn't work correctly, and the app will stay on. Hopefully this bug can be squashed when the developers update it. This is such a wonderful app, and the sleep timer is necessary for me.

...if it weren't for the self generating notes. User sounds are nice and very Eno-esque. But the self generating notes spoil any creativity and takes what could have been a cool instrument and turns it into more of a novelty/toy. Too bad. Fix the self generation or give an option to turn it off.

Couldn't get the sound to stop once I left the App. The other app, Bloom, will freeze. Wish this one would. Had to delete it off my phone.

Another zen garden for musicians. Very calming. Meditative. Music and art therapy at it's best.

Was uncertain since app hasn’t been updated in 3 years; however, it works fine on my iPad Pro with iOS 11. Having been a fan of Brian Eno in my youth, I enjoy creating and listening to these ethereal and calming tones. How to use: Draw several lines or dots with your finger, then wait for the song to develop; the music will follow the patterns you created. Also, the neon color flows and geometrics are beautiful to behold! Very relaxing and meditative, for those into this genre.

Take some time to immerse yourself in this app. There's a great deal of depth and nuance here even with the somewhat familiar themes. certainly well worth the price. If you enjoy ambient, self generating and perpetuating music this is for you. As another reviewer says a great compliment to Bloom. A different environment. Looking forward to more and perhaps some upgrades. Many Thanks to Eno and Chilvers for their introspective genius !!!

I don't understand what the fuss is about this app. Other than my first few moves, it seems programmed. Hmm, maybe I'm missing something. I'll check online to see if there are better instructions.

Some say Trope is not as responsife as Bloom. Not true. Each action by the finger is more like moving a finger over a lip of a crystal glass. Not like keystrokes on a synth like Bloom. I like it. It complements Bloom.

Could be much more representative of Eno's style of music creation. The tones are limited, there is no way to modify the attack of sounds or to make them last. Also there seems to be no way to switch off the random background noises that happen without the users control. Could be a great thing. I like the panning function where the sound is placed left or right depending on where on the screen you click. In Bloom it is much more intuitive to get used to the different moods (I understand they are just different modes of different keys as well as different colors). By 'get used to' I mean learning what each one actually changes and using it in combination with the echo in order to make interesting modulations and stuff of that nature. And there are 12 moods, like zodiac, that's cool. I feel like I have barely any control with Trope. Bloom is better for me in that respect, though I feel bloom is limited too. Cool stuff, but I'll stick to listening to Eno. Sorry but it just feels like Eno and Chilvers threw together a near interesting low grade simulation of ambient music that's prettier than it is usable and marketed it as four separate apps. That's genius I guess, and I'm gonna use it now that I spent the money on it. But for anyone looking for usability and playability, turn around and get something else. If you're looking to relax and help fall asleep, get this. Or just listen to Eno. Okay. That's it. I don't know if I said everything but that doesn't matter much. Goodbye.

For anybody that was misled by NAPSACK's review, iPhone apps can be loaded on your iPad. I have this app on both of my iPads, it is definitely a keeper.

This is beauty ~ Brian Eno is genius for painting sound... Trope is my favorite of the Eno apps, and is the only reason I'm able to sleep most nights. I love it's Listen option and how you're able go set it to play for however long you'd like. (or let it run all night and see how it affects your dreams) It's simply mesmerizing, relaxing, and calms the mind. I recommend it for everyone. ~kaela m.

Very cool graphics. Only issue is a bug that changes line type back 2 default after I erase no matter which 1 I choose.

Eno has been trying to do generative music for 30 years. This app is the realization of his vision. I listen to it through the stereo while doing random things during my day. The sound and parts are tremendous. It's as Eno intended it. Thanks, Brian!

But 3.99 seems high for something this simplistic and unimaginative. There are plenty of great artists making ambient music; I wish I'd just spent the 4 bucks on some of their MP3s.

I love the concept but trope needs more sensitivity to the touches we make. You can hardly hear the sounds when you touch the screen hard. This results in basically only the background being heard. Please boost the volume of our touches and also add more variety of sounds, thanks.

I guess how new age people could get into this but I tried napping to this and it just ended up putting me in a bad mood.

I let it develop for hours and hours, it keeps changing and is as interesting as it is ignorable...

After using "Bloom" I was expecting more awesomeness, but this program falls flat on it's face with it's super-limited interface. A waste!

There is an occasional crackle in the audio. I haven't downloaded the newest version yet to see if that has been corrected. In spite of that - this is my most used "go to sleep" app.

The screen looks awful. Please update!

At first, I was taken aback by the large number of negative reviews. These must be people who do not like ambient music because I found this to be a wonderful app. If you like Eno's "Thursday Afternoon" and other slow-moving works, this is perfect. I am glad I bought it. Eno fans who bought "Bloom" will be very pleased by this.

I love this app. There is a multitasking option, so the review that states the app won't "freeze" when closed is inaccurate. I just wish this app was available for iPad as well.

Bloom is much better.

This app is enjoyable and serene, but it's usefulness is extremely limited as it lacks background tasking. The developers seemed to have abandoned the app, so you must take it as is. If you'd like to use your iPhone for anything else, you must exit the app and end the soundscape. That being said, the soundscapes are beautiful and a pleasure to listen to while reading or relaxing.

Warm, therapeutic, adult play, and--why not kids? They'd love it even if attention span would keep it short. Opens creative doors--the simplicity and perhaps even limited or focused direction of these glorious Eno apps are an asset, not a limitation.

Bloom achieved so much more. Trope is simply a very short loop of dissonant piano notes and older marks. The user hardly has any control at all. Save your cash-stick with Bloom.

Beautiful. I enjoyed Eno's 1975 vinyl LP "Discreet Music" very much. It was created using a long tape loop between two reel-to-reel recorders with the erase head covered up. This is the same concept, 35 years later, and the whole thing fits in your pocket. It would be interesting to include a user sound input option. Maybe that will be included in the iPad version.

Serenity, makes you feel like you are floating in deep space, past the planets and moons, the stars...Beautiful. You do not want to miss this. Perfect for meditation or insomnia.

Great ambient music generation. Superb droning. Crank up the bass and enjoy.

I listen and watch this app make music. I find this more enjoyable than a music service simply because it can shuffle the many moods and generates unlimited music. Each song being different and never the same. I use this more than any other music app, including my music subscription services!! I don’t make music with it, I just listen and let it come up with its own things. Simply amazing. Between this and reflection I have more ambient music than my iTunes library! Ha!

Trope is, along with Bloom and Reflection, a wonderful collaboration between Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers, fusing Eno's ideas about "generative music" with the computing power and portability of iOS devices. Compared to Bloom, Trope is more flowing though perhaps a bit darker. Unfortunately, as of iOS 10 this app seems to have developed a bug that speeds up the sleep timer and may also affect playback. While I recommend all these Eno/Chilvers apps very strongly, I'd suggest waiting for this to be patched.

I really love this app. It's a totally logical extension of Brian Eno's ambient music theories and methodologies for the 21st century. In addition, I'm a lifelong insomniac and since I've been listening to this in bed, I've been falling asleep considerably faster than usual. (FWIW, I slept restlessly with it playing all night. The sleep timer came in handy.) My one significant complaint though: I read about Trope in the iPhone edition of the music mag The Wire. However, when I try to open the magazine (in Newsstand) while Trope is playing in the background, the mag shuts down the instant after it opens. Trope is the only app that causes the mag to do this. If I could read The Wire and listen to Trope as I go to sleep, I'd be REALLY happy.

I'm a huge Eno fan, so when I found out about Bloom I had to buy it, and that led me to Trope. Although Bloom may be more fun to play with than Trope, I find that Trope is better to listen to. It's easy to get it to play a slow, soothing pseudo-melody which is extremely relaxing. I don't think any of these apps are really off-the-charts outstanding, but this is a new way of making music and I'm impressed at how good it already is.

This was one of the first apps I bought when I got my very first iDevice and it still remains one of the most used and favorite apps I have downloaded. It's perfect for yoga or meditation, zoning out on a project, and just about anything else you need ambient background noise for. I just wish they would create a version for the Mac app store so I could have the wonderful beauty of this app on the much larger screen of my iMac.
