The app is awful

I would prefer to rate zero stars! The app had been great-now it stinks. I imagine there must be some cost saving measure involved.

Don’t like the news newsfeed at all! So much better before

The digital version of the magazine is basically one big pdf that is a 100% replica of the print layout. One can no longer search or click on anything. It’s useless. I don’t understand why the previous version was killed; it was nearly perfect.

App not working. I can’t open magazine.

Very disappointed in new app. Not sure why NY mag changed what was a great app that allowed you to easily scroll through the articles. Can’t ready the articles in the magazine screen now which is a bummer.

Bring back the old app. This adds nothing and detracts from everything

Awful update. No Meta data whatsoever on rolling landing page. If I want to read Andrew Sullivan’s articles for example, I have to click through every article in order to find it. Is this accurate? If so, major fail.

Love the quick takes, relevant buzz and fishy writing.

The new format on the app is pathetic

What a surprise! One more app ruined with too much tinkering. Cannot log on to receive latest issue although issues downloaded prior to update are still available. TOO BAD I READ THEN ALL ALREADY.

Not sure why the app doesn’t allow you to download images. So frustrating when reading offline on a plane with no WiFi and see blank squares instead of images.

I’ve also had a subscription for several years and cannot get the new improved crap app to work. I try sending emails and it won’t let me. I was able to get through once but had a terrible customer service experience with no resolve. I like being able to read my magazines on my mobile device if I’m out in the world. This is the only magazine that doesn’t work now. Good job.

What happened? The old NY Mag app used to be great and made it a joy to read the magazine. Now it’s basically just a list of articles, very uninspiring

Not sure why NYmag thought they needed to fix something that was not broken. I liked the previous version of this app which treated the format of the digital magazine the same as the print magazine. This new app update makes all the articles wildly out of order with no rhyme or reason. Feels like I’m just scrolling through the site- in which case I’d rather not have a subscription as part of what I pay for is a thoughtful layout and full reading experience.

I am locked out. Tried everything. Emailed CS and they said “we know it’s locking people out” and the solution? Read the print version! Guess the joke is on me! They never responded again!

The old app was one of my top 3 best designed UX apps. We used to be able to jump to any article easily and articles were designed in a way that made navigation fun. Now it changed everything to basic iOS table view. Please bring back the old app features

Doesn’t feel like a magazine, just a collection of stories with no order or flow. If you don’t go back to the old system I will cancel my subscription.

App won’t accept my subscription user name and password. Continually getting “something went wrong” dialogue box. Unusable.

the new app is not great- it glitches when you scroll down and doesn’t keep where you were when you open it back up the way the old app did. also am not a fan of how the issue is re-ordered on the app- keep it the same order as the actual magazine! issues are also missing and it’s a lot harder to navigate. this is so disappointing as i just subscribed recently and the old app was such a joy.

The new version of the app is absolutely horrible. Giving up...

Why don’t we get a full bleed of the cover? Hey!

The new app is virtually unreadable on an iPhone since it’s merely the magazine pages squeezed onto a phone screen. It’s only marginally better on an iPad. Please revert back to the prior app where I can actually scroll through and read the articles. Otherwise this will be the last time I renew my subscription. While I enjoy the articles, the user experience is terrible.

What did they do to this app? It’s just a list of links now and the share app under an article sends ... a link to the app!! Articles not in order any longer.

It doesn't work. I can’t get access to the previous issues and it won’t let me download the latest issue. I’ve spent a week trying to get someone to help me and they suggest I do everything I’ve already tried 3 times. The app is terrible and their support staff is even worse.

I love nymag.com - so much great content! But the app is virtually unusable

I love NYMag, but the new digital version is terrible. The print magazine and old app were identical. Now the stories are just listed in no discernible order and may as well just be their website. At least put the articles in order so I can scroll through the same way I do my physical copy!

This magazine give readers the real story, with what's going, one can understand the real reason why such crazy things are happening

I wouldn't think of NY Mag as having a big newsroom but they've actually broken some big news stories, and covered a wide gamut of the country so I'm impressed. The app is also really easy and simple and I appreciate it allows me to archive and find issues easily to help save storage space.

One of my favorite magazines - and I don't even live in New York.

I’m glad version 1.6.1 released today, 11/24/2018 brings about full access for current iTunes subscribers. The app needs more features to manage that full access to make sure it’s working the way I want it to! I’d appreciate a developer response if there will be an easier way to manage digital access in the app. Also, an official New York Magazine Firefox add-on would be great!

I love this app, easy to manipulate.

I love this magazine and have been a loyal subscriber for years. This app drives me nuts though and has finally driven me to write my first app review ever. The app looks great, but it has one huge problem: it doesn't save where you are in an article if you close the app. I read this on my subway commute, so I go back and forth to read articles a little at a time. The app never saves where I am, even if I only close the app for a few minutes. It's so annoying to go through the whole process of finding where I left off and scrolling through paragraphs until I find where I last was. The New Yorker app saves exactly where you are no matter how long you have the app closed, so I know this is possible! If this app could save places it would be perfect. Please stop adding a frustrating inconvenience to New Yorkers' already hellish commutes. Thank you!

I often have my iPad in a stand on my desk, and most things work better in landscape (including having charging cable plugged in). This is probably the only news/magazine app I have that doesn't support landscape. Also it should keep reading position in respective issues.

Good to have something interesting to read on train

This is a very informative , accurate, refreshing, and INTERESTING magazine and APP . Highly recommend it!!!!!

I re subscribed to the magazine in this manner because I miss frank rich. This a good way to restart.

How about adding the capability to look up words? This is one reason I got the digital form. Hate reading magazines bc of small font size and having to look up words on google. Please add this?? Thanks!

With so much going on, it is difficult to keep up with all the news. However, reading articles in New York Magazine gives you a good summary and intelligent overview of whatever issue is being discussed.

Very little content available and hard to select stories to read

Both daily news feature, as well as, the magazine included. Long time subscriber, app works great!

Love the UI, and they really do a nice job cultivating a unique brand. No one does storytelling better imo

This is a well designed and useful application to both subscribers and non-subscribers of New York magazine. Subscribers can use the app to read full magazine issues and non subscribers can read daily news stories that cover all subjects that the publication does such as culture, film, fashion, politics as well as feature stories. Non subscribers who want a little more can go to the included store to purchase individual issues. The app is easy to use and allows users to not only read stories but share them through e-mail ,Twitter and Facebook.

I love New York Magazine, the articles are great and the layout is awesome. I love being to read current news stories from the websites. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because the app will not remember your spot in an article. So in long articles, you either have to read it all at once, or remember your spot. Please fix and I'll rate 5 starts instantly!!

I enjoy this magazine a great deal. Its fun and informative and colorful and unique.

This is an update. Downloads are more reliable but still take a long time during which you can't do anything else wIth your iPad. Why can't the downloads happen in background once you have started them? Also--- the Read and Archive buttons continue to be less then a finger-width apart. Way too easy to hit the wrong one and accidentally delete your hard earned issue. Really s***** design. Please move the buttons far apart-- maybe even on opposite sides of the magazine cover image!! I have several iPad magazine subscriptions and none of them have the download problems of New York. The last several issues, the download takes forever, during which time you really can't use your iPad. And after an interminable download you get an error message telling you the download is corrupt. So you have to start again! And again. And again. I have skipped recent issues because I could never get a clean download. How is it other magazines not only allow easy download but also allow you to start reading before the download is finished?

Best news and culture magazine being published today. Great website with lots of additional news. Digitally, the magazine "reads", as if it's in your lap. No "tech distance". Subscription price? An absolute STEAL. GET this digi-mag. Now. K?

Great content and layout!

It's bizarre that any media app today fails to adapt from portrait to landscape mode, but New York Magazine's app is just like that-- there is no landscape mode, making it awkward to use on an iPad with a landscape-mode stand.

Jonathan Chait and the political writers are worth the price of admission.

Keeps me up to date on many important issues.

I wish most magazines had apps half as good. It is the only magazine that I subscribe to that I prefer to read on the app. They really take advantage of the possibilities that digital media and the Internet offer to add to the print edition. Plus, it looks great.

Don’t prompt me with only two options for rating: 5 stars or “rate later.” That’s reason for 1 star. Would have given 3 because like viewing experience but can’t stand inability to share an article. Even w other people who have app.

It's great to read news from different sources and angles that's how most smart people are informed. But I must say this so called news outlet has no fair or intelligent stories. I understand that most news outlets are paid for but this outlet has made their intentions clear, which mean focus from a small group in NYC disregarding any input from the rest of the country that obviously disagreed with you based on the the last general election results. But please continue to write stories for an elect few that still do not understand that the power and control of this country ignores you. Please vote

I love NYMagazine. It's right up there with the NYTimes for a quick read (especially re: trendy topics) & certainly a whole lot cheaper. Started my print subscription in the Seventies & never looked back... M. Calabia

Let's get one thing straight: NY Mag is the best thing ever, and I love everything about them. I get the print magazine at home. I mostly use the app on my iPad, when I'm traveling, and mostly for the news, and it's faster than using the website on iOS. Here's the problem - you can't use the app in landscape mode, only portrait. This is fine, but get's annoying if you want to keep it in the case and read.

It's a favorite place to keep up with what's happening in my favorite home town. It's also a well balanced and up to date writing of what's going on in the world -- open minded, unbiased and factual.
