Reviewed on 8/28/19 1:59 PMI've used apps that count calories but this app gives me a full dietary picture of what I eat everyday. It has been a real education in eating clean and it has helped me totally revamp how I approach my diet. As a by-product I've lost 13lbs in the last month and feel better than ever. I now have a great understanding of portion control. I highly recommend this app if you are like me, needing a more disciplined approach to eating right. Try it, it works! One improvement would be to show macros by meal and snack so you can enter before eating and adjust accordingly. You see your total macros which is good but need it by meal as well.

Reviewed on 8/28/19 1:59 PMIt's good while it works ... I used it last year, diligently making up a list of my foods. It took me some time to collect everything. After that the app became somewhat handy and didn't involve me spending a long time scanning barcodes. So I was able to lose some weight with it. So fast forward to this year. I needed to lose some weight again. So I loaded the same app on the same phone (after it hasn't been used for awhile) and, guess what ... all my collected food data is gone! I contacted their tech support but they were utterly useless. Just gave me basic steps that are present in their help... eventually the guy just told me to create a new account ;) yeah, good job buddy. So I'll be looking for some other app now. (Too bad that I had to pay for this one. So anyone beware of this.) Also in despite of me having paid for it, the app was still showing the button in settings to pay for premium. So go figure.

Please reconsider pricing. I’d be willing to pay a couple bucks a month or a one time $20-30 fee for premium, but not a similar amount to what I pay for Netflix or Spotify for this type of app.

So of course after downloading the pro app and setting it up, the feature I wanted to use is locked with an orange padlock image and the app asks me to subscribe to the premium subscription. I have contacted customer support so we will see how the company responds. I’m hoping this is not a bait and switch.
Savings Motivator's Review of Calorie Counter Pro Mynetdiary
Reviewed on 8/28/19 1:59 PMI have been trying to lose weight for nearly two decades. I cook my own food and have always thought that I eat healthily. I have tried most diets and plans at some time or another. Even so, I gained weight and four or five years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I cut out carbs and tried even harder to cut my weight. At the start of this year I got a fright when the scale nudged close to 300lbs. I cannot recall why, but I downloaded the MyNetDiary App even though I was convinced that my diet was the least of my problems. I was very wrong. Right off, I want to say that this app is probably not for everyone. It works extremely well for me since I cook at home and know what is going into the meals that I make. My first shock came in realizing that I had probably gained most of my weight from salads and meat. In the salads it was due to my home made vinaigrette that had around 500 calories from olive oil and mayonnaise. With the meat it was the portion size. Meat is incredible calorie dense. Apparently Adkins was hurting me! I changed what I eat with the largest part of my meals now made up of vegetables and fruit. Ironically, I now eat more than I used to but probably cut my caloric intake in half. Because of the quantities that I eat, I can honestly say that I am never hungry. I still have cravings, but even these are easier to overcome if you are not starving. I have been near religious about logging everything that I eat and have been eating roughly 2000 calories per day. Since downloading the MyNetDiary App I have lost 40 lbs. I know that I have a long way to go to get to a healthy weight, but for the first time in 25 years I actually feel hopeful that I will get there. It is hard to convey the excitement that this has generated. There are some things that could be streamlined in the app, but it works fantastically well overall. Let me know if you ever need a spokesperson!

Reviewed on 8/28/19 1:59 PMI’ve returned to this app after many years of not tracking calories. This updates to the look and functionality of the app are great, but the design of one aspect of the user interface are really frustrating... the arrows that take you back to the daily calorie overview (dashboard) and to the previous day are vertically stacked and right next to each other. Once you switch to a previous day, the app stays on that day, and I often find that I have entered today’s items on a previous day. If you are entering items for a preset meal block (breakfast, lunch, dinner) every entry for that block receives the same time stamp - even if entered days later. So, it is very difficult to diagnose and correct a mistake. There does not seem to be a way to lock entries for previous days, or even a simple warning that you are doing so. I would love to give this app 5 stars, but with such a frustrating and easily fixed problem unfortunately it looses a star from me.

Reviewed on 7/4/18 6:24 PMMy main problem with this app at the moment is with the charts part of the app. I love being able to see my weight and measurement history, but I wish the weight plan line went from your current weight to your desired weight, not from your starting weight to desired weight. My weight now is higher than when I started using the app, so when I set a small goal, say a 5 pound loss, the charts show little stars saying I gained 10% or such. It’s misleading and annoying. I realize I could probably fix this by resetting my history, but I want my weight history to stay, it’s a great log, and my only record. Please fix this!! I wish it had some sort of AI where it would look at all your data (it has access to everything) and then make recommendations like “If you fast today you will lose 2#” sort of thing. Basically all it does is say keep it up or you went over. It ought to be able to look at all the macros you consume (and when) along with activity, age, etc. and coach you right into specific dietary guidelines. That would be out of this world. Anyway, great app.

Also for barcode scanning function is not good enough. Sometimes barcode is partially damaged and camera cant detect the actual barcode. It is good to be a manual entry section for barcode number. If camera can’t see it, at least I can write the barcode number and get the result. Better than the entering all nutrients manually. For my daily limit dashboard and and my weekly analysis should not be on the Max feature. There are other tools in market already does it. I understand that some features has a uniq case to be paid for in Max version such as diabetes. However some simple stuff should have already included in pro version.

But this app teaches me how to eat, when you enter a food/meal it will tell you how much of your daily needs for each nutrient have been met so you know if you have had too many carbs and not enough protein. I also love that you can customize what you see on the home screen and that it has a widget to enter things on the fly. It calculates BMI and notes on your weight loss chart when you’ve reached certain milestones in your weight loss. I also love that when you gain weight back it doesn’t say or mark anything as negative. I lost 50 lbs using this app, then I was hospitalized and on a lot of steroids and ended up gaining back 20; it gave me tips and ideas to get back on track the entire time. Very few items calories do not match the packaging, but they are only off by 5 - 10 calories so I just go with it since I'm still eating around 1,000 less calories when I am aware and tracking them. I have to click Add, then go into snacks, edit the entry and change serving size from 10 to 20. This is so awkward and defeats the purpose of a favorites list. New fonts are much easier to read, and navigation still easy. Have subscribed for a number of years, and I plan to stick around for along while. This app keeps me on track, or let's me know when I am running off the rails. Thanks, Developers!! Update. 6-24-17: still a fine app. Works like I want it to work. Very flexible with entries. Only complaint: wish it was a little bit cheaper for an annual subscription. Easy to use. I like the UI. While it does not have each and every food in it's database, I can always get close on any restaurant entree, or processed foods from the grocery store. Used with a food scale, fresh ingredients can easily be calculated and entered into the app. I would like to see a completely separate medication tracker that can be printed for my doctor. Minor detail for me. Also, great for tracking blood glucose. A little pricey for an annual subscription, but the app is the best I've found for my tracking purposes. Cutting down on bread and sweets really helped a lot too I've been using this application for a long time now and I'm very impressed by it. I've tried many of them and definitely this is the best. This is the only calorie up that I have really stuck with and find it easy to use. This app really works It's really great that it can calculate how many calories you can eat that day based on how many pounds you want to lose a week and it will even tell you when you will lose it by approximately. The database is really good and if they don't have something you can upload the photo of the package and will update soon. I like that it estimates when you'll reach your goal. You can add other things to like how many glasses of water, exercise etc. You can add exercise and that will subtract the calories. If you're interested in a great calorie app look no further. This is it 😎🌈 It also can automatically get your exercises from your Apple Watch or other fitness trackers. I have used the Apple Watch app and like it. I added as a glance too.

Reviewed on 3/10/18 3:24 AMI’ve had the pro version for a few years. I would give this a 5/5 if I had the ability to have running totals by meal of fat/carbs/protein (not just carbs) or at least customize those and the ability to customize the number of meals. I read the faq about how to get around the number of meals... lame. It’s not your job to regulate my meals, but rather allow me to customize and regulate my meals. The very best thing about this app is the ability to measure food by grams and/or other units. I prefer grams for accuracy and I can do this. If I could get this in better apps, I would not use this one.

Reviewed on 2/21/18 4:53 PMI love and yet hate this app. I used it off and on over the years. The thing I find most frustrating is there are so many inaccurate “contributed” food/drink calorie listings it’s insane. Most recently 1 cup 8oz black bean coffee 120 Cal. The problem is this type of contribution, there are 1000s, clutters the feed and requires you, me, the consumer, to waste so much time searching for the accurate listing. Like Twitter has made an effort to cut p*** on its feed, MyNetDiary needs to make some sort of effort to delete all these inaccurate posts. Unfortunately this makes up about 90% of what’s available on their app.

I have now reached my goal & am just maintaining now, but still use this app as it keeps me successful at remaining at the healthy weight I wanted to be. I lost a very large amount of weight, and I owe a great deal of that success to this app. If you don't log what you eat, you will end up "cheating" without realizing it. Reviewed on 12/17/18 1:18 PMI’ve been using this app since Aug 2011 primarily for its weight loss charting. The chart allows me to see when I’ve creeped up on my weight and gets me back on track. I can see the results of what I’ve eaten and when, plus the effect of the level of exercise I’ve performed! it ‘gently’ reminds me to eat right, follow my pre-scheduled exercise routines and gives me the visual incentive to see that line go DOWN when it starts to climb up! Thanks for making it easy to keep track of it Suggestion/Question: When I open the chart, I have to widen and/or vertically heighten the screen to see the smaller improvements I’ve made (to continuously motivate me!). It’d be helpful if the chart view would remain heightened/widened visually, the same way I left it when I exited the app the previous time. Is this possible? If so, thank you in advance! Also, many thanks for allowing us the ability to MOVE the layout selections where they’re most useful to each individual. That added feature is PERFECT👍

The bar scanner is super convenient and I have only discovered two or three food items the scanner did not recognize. You pair this app with an inexpensive digital food scale and you will be able to count calories like a boss! Follow a good eating plan and measure everything and you will get results. I would advise that you set yourself up as a sedentary user no matter what level of activity you do. I am up and moving all the time and was racing bicycles a few years ago. The activity setting will give you a basic metabolic level which is the calorie count you need just to maintain your present weight. The sedentary category will give you the lowest "upper" calorie restriction. That's where you want to start and then limit calories below that. It will work! Last April I was at 184. Now it's September and I am at 165! This app has been a tremendous teacher and watchdog for me. It reminds me to be careful about what I shove in my mouth and shows me the cost of the mindless grazing I used to do. We live in amazing times and this app, while not perfect, has enriched my life and helped me healthy and happy. Get this. Don't cheat! Weigh everything and be patient. Move as much as you can. Reviewed on 12/14/18 1:01 PMI pulled my rating down in order to get your attention so that I could let you know of a problem: At times when I scan a food item, someone else has entered the wrong item on that barcode. So, I send an update in order to correct the item in the database in order to make it match the barcode. For example, I just scanned Betty Crocker peanut butter naturally flavored cookie mix, and came up with “Hershey’s kisses”. Since I was pretty sure I had submitted an update before, I went back in to check. It showed that my update had been rejected because it didn’t match what was in there before. What was in there before was inaccurate, and needs to be corrected. One of the items that I have scanned & updated comes up with “bananas, raw”, which is also inaccurate. Other times, the item might be correct, but the fat grams, calories, size of the item or other detail may be the inaccuracy. So, when someone submits an update, please try to find out the reason. In general, I love the app and was excited when I noticed the ability to update an item. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

(As of 9/18 that seems to have been fixed—it’s no longer an issue.) It would be nice to be able to duplicate a recipe so that a variation could be saved w/out having to re-enter the whole thing. Otherwise I’m very satisfied with the app. Update to above in December 2018: Still satisfied generally, however the created recipe instability has reappeared. It would help with planning meals ahead of time, which i do all the time without having to have the meter turn red. Is this possible? Reviewed on 11/4/18 5:33 PMI’ve been using My Net Diary for about 5 years to track nutrients and calories. I tried MyFitnessPal and several other apps before I found this one, but found the ads on most annoying and the apps mainly focusing on weight loss. My Net Dairy is by far the most comprehensive nutrient tracker if you want to see more than carb, protein, and fat breakdown. It lets me customize the dashboard for any nutrients I want (I like to track my potassium and Vitamin K intake on the dashboard since those seem to be good indicators of how many vegetables and greens I eat) and also lets me easily see all the detail I need. It also lets me track water intake and syncs with my Fitbit. I can add customized foods and recipes as needed, copy recent meals and pick from frequent foods. With each update, this app just keeps getting better!

I can enter food with a barcode scanner, save commonly eaten foods and prepare a .pdf report at the end of the week. This has brought an awareness of caloric intake I’ve never had. It synchronizes with my Apple Watch, so all of my exercise calories are included. The word ‘comprehensive’ I used in the title says it all!

The one thing I really don’t like from recent updates is we can no longer copy an item from another day from the current day. Instead we need to copy from the previously logged foods. I also don’t find much value in how the foods are managed because you need to scroll through the list. (Is what I’m looking for under frequent or favorite foods?) Great job on continuing to improve! Of all logging apps this is #1

The customer support is terrific if you have any questions. I have been using this app for 5 years and it has been the main reason I have been able to lose 30 pounds and keep it off. Reviewed on 11/2/18 10:53 AMI’ve been on the Keto Diet for nearly 4+ months and have tried several low carb, keto specific apps as well as MFP. The UI of MyNetDiary takes the cake. This app makes it incredibly easy to log food, copy from a previous day’s meal (which I do for leftovers at least three days a week), and remembers my frequent portions of a food with one-tap selection. Using Trackers I can log ketone readings, and everything is one place. There are a few features in the other apps that, if added, would make this one perfect for keto dieters. The option to select macro percentages calculated on the dashboard with Net Carbs vs Total Carbs, and being able to see that same macro view at the individual meal level. I’ve grown accustomed to seeing it on a wheel, and like that view, but even just having F/P/NC percentages as I build and plan my meals in advance is incredibly helpful.

The charting function enabled me to discover things about my eating habits that I had never realized before. I have also found the exercise tracker to be equally helpful and just as accurate as a dedicated fitness app that I use. While this diet app could use some aesthetic improvements, it takes almost all the guess work out of managing your daily caloric consumption. More importantly, the more you use the app, the better you become at self-monitoring the caloric aspects of your diet.

Reviewed on 10/25/18 11:24 PMBeen using this on and off for a few years. My overall assessment is that it is just OK. I question the validity of calorie restriction, where so much more modern research shows that what you consume (limit processed foods) and in what combinations lead to long lasting results. To be honest, my greatest weight loss came when I stopped using the app. The good: great for maintaining a diary so you can refer back to it to see how you respond to things like wheat and dairy, what time of day you can consume carbs for best metabolism/energy levels, and watching things like sugar intake (though there is no distinction between processed sugars and naturally occurring sugars in whole fruits, which have relatively higher fiber and beneficial nutrients). The food library is also very good (though I found inaccuracies and have reached out to the developer and have yet to see corrections). The bad: let me start with the food ratings. Who makes this stuff up? Honestly do not know why blueberries can receive a B rating while some processed food bars can receive an A. Really? How can something that has a shelf life of months to years gain such a high rating? Again, this is antiquated thinking and needs an overhaul. Then there is what others have mentioned, you should have the ability to adjust your own fat, carb and protein levels based on what is best for your metabolism. To arbitrarily assume proportions does not help people attain health. Next there is the double counting of exercise of you use Apple Watch and other exercise apps that link to it. Not horrible but completely sways the overall food plan. There are no settings for food preferences or allergies or special diets. Finally, the emphasis on calorie restriction can leave some people vulnerable to either extreme restriction or demotivation when they see that restricting calories is not working for them. Overall, it really should be treated just as a diary and not a weight loss plan. Good luck on your health journey whatever your tools to help you!

Reviewed on 10/20/18 8:54 PMLove this app. Have used for a year and a half- the app has played a key role in my success! I love how easy it is to enter foods and exercise. The charts are absolutely the best part!!! Seeing the chart of my weight loss has kept me from becoming discouraged and quitting SO many times! I have recorded my measurements at the beginning of each month and those charts are SO motivational! 8" off my waist and 9" off my hips and 5" off each thigh- I don't know of any other app that has such great charts. Even though I have hit my ideal weight, I will continue to record my calories (my dad dropped 100 lbs a few years ago and has kept it off by faithfully recording his calories). Every time I was discouraged, I would review my charts and think "I have made it this far, I just need to keep doing the same thing and eventually that plateau it going to be over!" Update: I have used MND for about 3 1/2 years. It took a year to lose most of my weight (50 lbs), I lost the other 10 over the next 6 months and have kept it off!! Maintaining my weightloss for an additional 2 years! I continue to track my food on the app. During this time my eating habits and exercise habits have completely changed. Have turned into a h******** fitness chick - today was a 10.5 mile run. I feel like a completely different person- people who haven't seen me since I lost weight don't even recognize me. MND totally helped me become the person that I knew was inside me. The trick is to not give up, each day is a new day and just worry about sticking to your calorie goal for that day. UPDATE: it been 5 years and I have maintained my 60 lbs weight loss! This app totally works! It has become second nature for me to record everything I eat so it’s not a hassle. My Net Diary has had a huge impact on my life - for sure, would not have been able to lose the weight and maintain the loss without it!
