It’s a very good app. There’s only one problem I see. On the 4 7 8 breath the timing of the exhaled breath is sometimes longer than it should be. The timing seems to change.

Breathing is such a common and trivial act that we don’t even realize it. Practicing deep breathing takes minimal effort and benefits are lower stress, calmness; and relaxed mind and body. Strongly recommend it. Syed I

It doesn’t sync up with the iPhone app settings. I got it perfect at 4.5 bpm and 10 minutes with what my biofeedback doctor prescribed for me everyday but it doesn’t allow for equal breathing. It is at like a 2/3 exhale 1/3 inhale and won’t let me change it.

Nonsequitorian's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 9/11/19 2:10 PM
I like that it is a breathing app, not a “guided meditation “ app. I like the 4 7 8 setting a *lot*! I like that I can turn all audio feedback off and just let it quietly tap my wrist on Apple Watch. Last thing it needs is to sync with iPhone app and Health app. The watch is trying to sync, and returns a message that I need to allow sync with Health app, but there is no option to allow sync, either in iPhone BZ or in Health app. My sessions are not recognized in either iPhone app and both BZ and Health say I have completed no minutes.
-odjbo-'s Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 9/11/19 2:10 PM
For core functionality, it’s near perfect. But the second exhale in the 4-7-8 session is not right. The mandala freezes at the top of the breath for 1-2 seconds. Also (minor glitch) the Activity and Settings screens don’t mind the iPhone’s “notch,” so the title text is obscured behind it.

Middle age mom's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 8/8/18 2:43 PM
The times are wrong. I have it set to 6 bpm equal in out should be five seconds each direction. This morning it was working, now it is doing 15 seconds each way. I restarted my phone, then deleted and reinstalled the app, it worked briefly and then when I went to the settings page and returned to the breathing page it was wrong again. My husband gets mad when I don’t update my apps but this is why! Apps you love and use stop working. Update ************************ The developer contacted me. Saying the app was working, not saying “hey we found a bug and fixed it”. Yes I tried it again and it is working now, but when it was broken I found breathe + and coherence apps, they are other possibilities. I am raising my review to 3 stars, it works today but who knows how long?

If this app could be set to operate for 8 hours instead of just 60 minutes, it would be perfect. It helps me go to sleep beautifully but when I wake up two hours later I have to restart the app. It is a very easy-to-use app that is a godsend. The white noise is customizable to my breathing rate. Wonderful!

Apple has a breathing app on the watch. This app’s watch app is weak. There are no settings, and sessions on the watch are not counted on the app. The watch app and phone app seem to be disconnected. If you want to be my favorite breathing app, give a unified offering and use the health data, like heart rate to improve your offering. This is weak and needs to be brought into modern times
Heptite's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 6/27/18 5:03 PM
Simpler than most meditation apps, which is good. Too many try to do too much and get bloated and difficult to use. I wish I could enable a time countdown on the display.

I like this app because it does what it says. It helps you to regulate your breathing. A soothing voice can guide you if wanted; and there are several varieties of breathing speeds. It can work with the health information on your iPhone if you like. What's even better is that there's no push for you to have memberships or join clubs. The only negative thing is that the sometimes the breathing speed becomes irregular.

I probably downloaded 4 other apps before paying for this one. While I wish it was less expensive, it’s the most customizable app I’ve found. I love that I can play this track over my meditation music. Breathing like this is the best thing I’ve found for managing my anxiety, and was recommended to me by a Ph.D in counseling. I do it almost daily!

jonomonbk's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 4/10/18 1:07 PM
I’ve been using this app for a week after comparing and test driving a few others. I really appreciate the way you can start at a number of breaths and then the app progressively adjusts to the desired number of breaths. However, it could be better. While I like how you can set your target number of breaths, the app is missing the ability to control how long it takes for you to get to that desired number of breaths. For example, if you’re doing a 20 minute session it would be nice to be able to set to have it slow down over the first 5 minutes... or 10... or whatever your preference is. As it is, I know it goes slower but I have no idea how long it takes, nor is it possible to see how many breaths you’re doing at any particular time, which beings me to... While the session screen is moderately cool with the pulsing orb thing, it’s kind of useless. More helpful would be an option for an easy to see (always on while using the app) display of how much time is left in your current session as well as the current breaths per minute. I’d like to be able to glance briefly at the screen and see how I’m doing and if I’m at my desired breath rate. Another minor complaint is that the app pauses very easily - by just touching the screen - which I’ve unintentionally done many times while in a session. A more deliberately styled pause button would be better. Not a bad app but these adjustments would make the app perfect for me and one that I would use much more personally and be able to recommend much more highly to others.
Zensations's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 3/8/18 3:47 AM
This app is probably intuitive for younger people, but initially I was stuck not knowing how to begin the session. After getting tech support, I like the Breathing Zone and highly recommend it as a healthy coping tool for stress. Anytime I feel stress in my body in the form of mental frustration, muscle tension, queasy stomach, tingling or shallow breathing I turn on the app. Using the Breathing Zone calms my body and mind by breathing fully the Vegas nerve and sympathetic system are balanced and I come back into balance or homeostasis.
Kathy-p's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 2/24/18 8:48 AM
Breathing Zone was a fantastic app that I used daily and have recommended to others. I was unhappy when they did an update in December 2017 which removed a few features I like. However, they have added back the ability to start a session at a faster breathing rate and have the app slowly guide you to your target rate. So I am back to using the app daily and would recommend it. I do wish they would add back the "celestial choir" voice. The progression of sounds of that voice helped me pace my breaths since I usually do my breathing exercises with my eyes closed. It is very useful having the human voice prompting you to breathe in and out.
Perkgun's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 2/22/18 3:08 PM
I have had ADD my entire life and due to the severity of it I need stimulants to help my brain. I have tried every type of natural remedy but they aren’t nearly as effective. That being said I do get anxious at times. My heart beats faster which is uncomfortable and doing the breathing exercises with this app calms me down. I have done breathing exercises in the past without an app but this app helps keep me focused on my breathing and is a nice break to take during my day. I find the breathing exercises also help my ability to focus once I am finished and I feel a serene calm when I am done. Truly Zen like. I like the ability to modify the exercises in length and various tones you can set. I was excited to see the 4-7-8 breathing pattern in here as well. I have only had the app for a few days but it is really been helpful.

Pip Longstocking's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/31/17 5:35 AM
This app WAS beautifully relaxing. It was perfect. But since the late 2017 update it is just awful. It has static clicks. The breaking rate, no matter how I set it, is inconsistent. The most important settings are gone. It's impossible to relax while listening to the current version. I'm just brokenhearted.

Developer, I just deleted my previously negative review, thank you kindly for this update restoring beginning/end rate for a session! A breathing practice is critical to stress management and grounding yourself in the present when life feels out of control. This app is the backbone of a serious breathing practice while remaining simple and with a beautiful interface.
Katherine.Ann.666's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/27/17 9:43 AM
I used to be able to set the breathing rate at the start, now I can only set the end rate. Also swiping up and down to change the rate isn’t helpful since that’s also the only way to see the rate. This app is just too unintuitive and frustrating to continue using.
Just Nora's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/26/17 8:32 AM
This was my favorite breathing app. The latest release, while the visualization is beautiful, lacks the sensitivity of the former app. As an example, I prefer to breathe at a pace of 3.2 breaths per minute. The old BZ app allowed me to set my rate at that number. The new app offers breathing increments of .5 and no further granularity. Neither 3.0 nor 3.5 work for me personally. The old BZ had a sound setting like an ocean - the water rolling into shore and rolling out. The new BZ has a flowing water sound choice, but it’s not the same sound. The exhale is several stitched together sounds. It’s choppy. It’s not the same, and the inferior sound effect of flowing water therefore comes across as anything but flowing. I tried so many breathing apps and purchased quite a few duds. I’d gladly pay to get my old Breathing Zone app back. This upgrade is anything but an upgrade. As another reviewer wrote, I’ll be watching other reviews for others to share their recommended apps. I cannot use this version of the app, and I’m truly disappointed.
Yakuzadoc's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/26/17 2:19 PM
The app changed the breathing rate options and the gradual winding down to target breath rate. It also has limited the target rate as well. This undoes the 2 years of training I've done with this app. The transition between inhale and exhale has also changed for the worse. No longer smooth. The voice even sounds different. Change it back, please! I have to find a new app.
Sohko6's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/25/17 2:05 PM
I would gladly trade pretty new graphics (I close my eyes when using this app anyhow) for the old functions of starting vs. ending breath, rates in between rounded numbers (i.e. 2.3) and rates below 2.0. I’m glad I have an old iPad that can’t update or that I haven’t updated to the “improved” version.

kumasokka's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/24/17 9:23 AM
I used to love this app! I used it every day for mindfulness. The app was very simple and well designed. My favorite feature was that it would automatically adjust the breathing rate down as you used it. That is no longer this app, and I really really regret updating it. It seems now to be focused on gamification/metrics and no longer focused on mindfulness. These features that are designed to get the user more engaged with the app and spend more time in the app completely defeat the entire purpose of downloading it. I recommended this app to many friends/family/colleagues/etc, and it is very unfortunate that the app has taken this step backward in functionality. Another example of this is the fact that the transitions between breathing rates now sound much rougher and unpleasant than before. Really really baffled with this one. Will keep an eye on the comments to see if anyone has another app to recommend - a functional clone of the old Breathing Zone would be ideal! I’m rating it 1 star because a previously extremely useful app has fallen victim to app trends that do nothing for the end user. I appreciate the beautiful new animations, but all the other additions (and the extremely baffling removal of good features) are pretty frustrating. I miss the simplicity of BZ.
J.W.Gooch's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/24/17 2:55 PM
Love the update. Visually stimulating and peaceful. Why doesn't it automatically slow the breathing pace anymore? I miss being able to set a target rate. That was a high value feature of the original for me. Thanks for making this app.
Ham Jones's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/24/17 1:49 PM
This was a fantastic app that I used all the time. Then, around December 20 or so, the makers released a new version that took away all of the functions that made the product so excellent. I am stunned and frustrated. They turned a gem into garbage. Avoid this new version!
recoveringmale's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/20/17 4:42 AM
Echoing others on here: what really set this app apart for me was its use of a target breath rate, which it then would work towards throughout the 2 minute cycle, slowing down incrementally. Without that it's a much less useful app, regardless of the UI overhaul.
Heptite's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 12/19/17 3:06 PM

I’ve reviewed all the meditation/deep breathing apps on the market and I always return to this on. Easy to use and no subscription, I’m really enjoying the app make over. The only thing more I could ask would be a watch companion app. I’d use this app on my watch over Apples mindfulness meditation app. They clearly just copied your amazing app

Not at all what I expected. The analyzer could barely distinguish between inhale and exhale coming up with a wide range between attempts. Basically no adjustments for timing, pauses or breath holds. Simple breath in breath out with slowing rate. I'm sorry to have wasted my time and money.

It really makes the practice much more enjoyable and doable for me. (The only thing I would add is the option to set a reminder to meditate, but there are other ways to accomplish that and I don't hold the lack of this option against the app or its creators.)

I think this is a very good app. I would like for the "guided sounds" to have more options. Soft British accents are something I know many people would enjoy.

The app is a good idea in concept, but suffers from poor execution and inconsistent behavior. It seems to want to always revert to 15 second breathes in and out regardless of the BPM setting. Not really relaxing when you can’t keep up unless you have the lung capacity of an Olympic swimmer. Hopefully, it’s a simple bug fix, but as is, largely unusable for an average person.

Cmdanko's Review of Breathing ZoneReviewed on 1/4/18 5:41 PM
I’m not happy with the update. At first, I was excited by the additional sound options, but they weren’t what I expected. My biggest complaint is that the breathing rhythm has changed. The breath in is now quick with a very slow breath out. Previously the breath in was equal in length to the breath out, the way I learned from “The Healing Power of the Breath.” There are many styles of breathing for health and mindfulness. It would be nice to have the option to choose the rhythm of breaths in and out.

The app makers fixed the issue I complained below. It's back to its awesome state, now with better graphics. Five stars! (Until a few days ago, you could set the app with a starting breathing rate and an ending one. Because of that feature, you could start with your regular pace (5 breaths a minute) and the app would gradually take your breath down to, say 2 or 3 breaths a minute. Now, with the update, you can only choose one rate.)

I love what it does for you. Breathing at 6bpm is a very simple way to meditate, lower anxiety, and alter your cardio profile. The new version of the app is awesome and I like the new logo. This is best app of its kind on the market. I’ve tried them all. Changed to 5 stars after developer feedback. Functionality I thought was missing was still there.

I use this program to practice breathing for 5 minutes every morning before I get out of bed. Good way to wake up.

I like the ability to have equal time for inhale and exhale. I can now use the app again. The best part of this app is the gentle slowing of the breathing rate. I do prefer the old graphic. It reminded me of a peacock.

January 14, 2018. The company listened to their customers and fixed things in the app that they had changed! I feel comfortable now writing a GREAT REVIEW! The app now provides the user with several selectable options; gender voice, background sounds, duration, variance in rate, and breathing style! Once again my “go to app” for relaxing 👍🏻. Thanks Breathing Zone...I will resume recommending this app to everyone 👏🏼👍🏻🧘🏼♂️🎉

Thank you for adding back the option to slow as you go in the beginning of session.
