Normally I don't write reviews. But this app blew my mind. I love fractals. So I could play with this for hours. It does have a learning curve though.

I’ve been trying to teach myself fractals with a PC program for years and have never been able to figure out how to get the beautiful images I often see. I am so, so, so thrilled with Frax. It makes exploring and seeing results very very easy (imo) and it is just so beautiful to look at!!! You have one very VERY happy customer for life!

I am neither an artist nor a mathematician, but I vaguely understand the math behind it, and the images produced are nothing short of breathtaking. I can sit and play with this for hours.

When I try to save on iPad Pro it just kicks me out of the application. It was after the latest update, please fix.

These are images of fractals. You zoom in and out, change colors and rotation. That's about it. NOT A TRUE FRACTAL GENERATOR!

I started out enjoying exploring the different fractals. Then recently I needed a better background for PowerPoint. This was a great tool to create a background with depth and character but boring enough to be in the background. I focused on what normally would be a boring part of the fractal. I know this is somewhat an unintended use for this but I was able to use this as a tool rather than just zooming through cool scenery.

Beautiful, you can create local renders, and more... it’s every nerd’s dream. In fact it is every person’s dream, I cannot describe how much I love this app with words. BUY IT NOW!!!

I purchased Frax over three years ago. The fractals are so beautiful.

Bought the program and loved it so decided to upgrade to the pro version, which wouldn't work initially. I contacted support late at night, expecting to have to wait until morning for an answer. I had an answer and a working program in less than 5 minutes. The Pro version is definitely worth it.

This is the one stop app for all your fractal creations. Works great on ipad pro. Pro version adds so much variation.

I'd rather have a less polished app that lets me dive deep into fractals. With this one, you zoom in for a moment or two, and then it just stop pretty quickly, and it's like "Kids! Out of the pool!" Seems like they put a lot of energy into bells and whistles that I never thought were missing from other apps. The realtime processing is nice & smooth, for sure. I suppose if you're someone who would spend $7 on a fractal viewer, you'll like it.

Frax HD will allow you to create a fractal art masterpiece in only a few minutes! This app is designed very well and it is both easy and fun to use. The Pro upgrade is definitely worth the money!

Beautiful app, very responsive developer. Now ALL of my Apple devices (Macs, iPads, iPhone) have wallpapers that I created using either Frax (for iPhone) or Frax HD (for iPad). These wallpapers have become a bit of an obsession for me.

Fun to just play with, it's also a useful artistic tool. The group behind it have been involved in some of the most creative digi-art for many years now, and it shows in Frax. Obviously a labor of love and very well done. Five stars.

This is by far the best ap I've found that provides a creative outlet. The endless variety of colors and patterns one can create is amazing. Frax is well worth every penny.

I've loved fractals for decades, ever since I found FRACTINT back in the DOS days. This app is just incredibly amazing and for me, a great way to relax. Also, this app lists Kai Krause as a creator. I have to believe they mean the author of the most awesome "Kai's Power Tools" back in the day! :-)

The Best Fractal app,out there. The new update is terrific. Love the paint. I can not say enough about this app. You need to get it and try it and enjoy.

This is THE app for fractals on iOS. Everything about it is first-rate. It's simple to get started and be amazed in seconds and yet deep enough to be a professional design tool.

I would like to see more mathematical choices to create more varied geometrical shapes. In other apps I've played around with, you can actually mess around with different formulas. It seems like you are given two presets, and bobs your uncle. I like more variety!

Super fun once you start playing you can't stop playing this game is the best game I've ever played

Creates really beautiful renders very quickly. Would love an update for iPad Pro resolution. I would also love to see a feature or similar application that supports fractal flames.

the touch interface changes entirely the way i deal with fractals and support is great... after upgrading to an iPad Pro, there were some problems with my saved presets Ben spent a few hours, over two days, texting with me to fix the issue, and it was fixed to my satisfaction being limited to only Mandelbrot and Julia sets is a quite constricting, but i'm hoping that will expand in the future get this app you won't be disappointed

I purchased the HD version to try out the app. I liked it well enough that I sprung for the Pro Upgrade. I was unable to get the upgrade to work. I contacted the Developers and had an answer quickly. Seems it is a problem with Apple not The app. Ben quickly resolved my problem and I have been playing with this since. How am I supposed to go to work now? If they get a Windows version going I will never eat or sleep! Heck, as it is, it's nearly midnight as I type this and I have to get up at 5:30 am. Boy, am I screwed! Is there a Frax Anonymous?.

If I upgrade to pro, will that include my iPhone version or would I have to pay for that separately?

So thrilling. It engages me completely. It can be intense and exciting. I have made thousands of Frax and I never get bored. It can be challenging and instantly rewarding, too !! It’s addictive fun and creativity.

Wonderful app that makes exploring and creating fractal imagery really fun and enjoyable. The UI makes it fun and yet still offers lots of control. Brings me back to the days of the KPT plugins!

This app is amasing and i haven't seen anything like it but there is one problem. The paint feature has some ugs for you to work out. I am on an ipad pro.

Sorry for yelling. Both the App Store reviews, and definitely the search function have become increasingly unreliable (wonder if this absolutely legit comment will get this review rejected 🤔 ). All I can tell you beyond the title is that I was looking for another kaleidoscope app (I have both the TumbleVision and the Kaleidoscope X ones and both are great, but different, first one is a limited, but excellent, selection of kaleidoscopes which you can play with music and the second uses your photos or presets and allows you to alter them in a bunch of different ways). Before you think this is a review for those apps (both by different indie developers), know that I mention them only because they led me to fractals which led me to this (and also if you like this kind of thing, you'll like both of these as well). Also, I just remembered Uzu (hope I'm spelling it correctly, it's a particle generator which is also very nice). But as good as these apps are, this app blows them away. The still images, and the free sample app in the App Store do not do justice to this amazing application. I just spent about an hour researching, trying to find a new app to essentially make pretty things on my iPad. My search went from kaleidoscopes and mandalas and ended up at fractals and Mandelbrots. Article after article (including one from Cnet, from back when Cnet was also super reliable) mentioned this app. It doesn't matter if you don't know what they are, just know that they are not only the most beautiful things I have ever seen created on my iPad but that the science behind them is mind blowing. Save time, just buy it! It is amazing. I've tried to write this review so you'll know it's legit. If you're not sure, research for yourself, but this is an amazing app. I would have capitalized amazing but didn't want to yell anymore, and I've probably said amazing way too many times. Last thing, I am writing this review after using the app one time, without reading the directions (there is a brief tutorial when app launches). I have a feeling that there is more amazingness (technically not the same word) to be had if I explore their website. BTW, this review is for the basic app with no additional IAPs.

I do love this app. I have been a fractal artist on computer for several years now and while Frax is not a replacement for programs like JWildfire or Mandelbulb 3D it is one of the best of it's category. I have a he pro version and love the features this adds. To be honest after seeing the work a friend was producing with Frax I bought an iPad to be able to use it. If you are on the fence on making this purchase, go for it. You will be creating beautiful work in no time.

Incredible software, written by geniuses, that straddles the intersection of art and science. I never write reviews, but I so impressed by FRAX. Thank you for this wonderful gift of an app FRAX team. If you're still reading, stop it, buy FRAX pro and render some gorgeous fractal art.

I love this app and have been using it since it first came out. I upgraded to HD Pro as soon as I could with no regrets. An undocumented feature could use some illumination: tap the edge to bring up UI buttons, tap the upper left grid to get to the gallery. No, there is a "photos" menu. If the imported image was saved from Frax, it has metadata that allows you to pick up with your exploring where you left off. If the image is not from Frax, the colors become the palette for exploration.

Title says it all! The only reason I didn't give it 5*'S is that the IAP are way too inflated.? I am on a disability fixed income and just can't afford these expensive add-ons. That being said, it is still awesome! Just wish I could at least check out more extensions.

The most incredible fractal program I have ever seen. If you have not figured it out yet, many of the starting points are on the Mandelbrot set and other familiar sets, zoom out and you will see where you are. Who knew that was in there! Very entertaining.

Maybe 20 years ago I used fractint on a pc. The cycling fractal colors made it a favorite. So I started wondering if there is something comparable for the iPad. Well frax makes the old program seem primitive indeed. Each time you zoom into some part of this scene and apply custom colors, it's a new discovery. I have barely started exploring. This program will heat up my iPad Pro so I know it's pushing the hardware. Just what I was looking for.

I won’t add a long list of things l like here, as I agree with all the 5 star reviews. I will say that you can have even more fun and creative control if you do the in-app upgrade to the pro version, which gives you an astounding array of creative control with very easy to understand and use controls, with options to render at much higher resolution than the screen, save bookmarks, and more. And on an iPad Pro, it’s amazingly fast and responsive. Very well thought out, and I’m so glad I took a look at how fractal rendering has changed since I first played with them 20 years ago. Fascinating and fun. Good for kids (even my cat plays with it) all the way up to those of us with grey hair.

I love playing with the app to help me unwind at night. The possibilities are endless and the resolution is fantastic. I upgraded to the Pro out of appreciation more than needing additional feautres (not that they aren't worth it!). I had a problem with the upgrade and contacted the developer. One of them got back to me in under 20 minutes, on a Saturday night no less, and walked me through the solution. Gotta love people who stand behind their product. To think this much fun and creativity are available for the price of a cocktail blows me away.

It's not perfect, but I love it.

Back when I had my DOS 80286 PC AT, I wrote a Mandlebrot program that took from 3 to 20 hours to calculate each single frame, and that computer had the math co-processor chip. I just bought Frax HD, and it creates gorgeous full-color images on my iPad Pro and zooms and scans as fast as I can move my fingers over the screen. I'll probably never learn all the controls, but this is the most amazing image program I've seen yet. Well worth the two bucks. What a bargain!

So much more fun and interesting than I would have believed possible! Beautifully designed, smooth operation, and just delightful to use!

Warning! Get ready to spend hours looking into your iPad until you are blind! I only see in Fractals now.

Wow! Unlike any other app. Loving the Paint feature. I use it to color my fractals like a coloring book - and then zoom into them. This app shows the power and beauty of a simple equation. The more I play with it, the more stunning visuals I create. I also like to use the Flow mode (found by tapping the Frax logo) for a bit of a zen break.

I know nothing about mathematics, but this this is so beautiful, and fun, I highly recommend it.

Loving this app. Can't stop playing with it. Perfect for the casual novice or those that want to explore the depths of fractals and their science. Keep the updates and preset images coming. Great job!!!

I just bought the Pro version. Can't put into words how entrancing this app is! I have rendered some in high res and printed them. Incredible detail and color! Can't wait to see high res posters of my favorites. Thanks to the developers and Mandelbrot for their devotion to this project! Update 10/3/17 I’ve been enjoying this app on and off for years. I’ve printed some of my creations and use them as wallpaper on my Mac and iOS devices. It makes you feel so creative without having to master all the controls. A real tour de force!

I am really loving this app. I found it on a whim actually as I was looking for pattern creators and color design apps. I knew what fractals were, but not in depth. I loved the fractals I could create and upgraded within 30 minutes of getting the free version. It runs great on my iPad Air 2 and I've used the cloud to get high quality renders. I am very impressed and hope this app continues to be around for a very long time:-)
