TigerWizards's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/6/18 1:01 AM
As an older woman and one with some impairments i find Instacart to be a great service. I have used other delivery services and will use them again as the store with most of what I need never has all the items. I know the shelves in Target have some of these things. I wish I could build a list for future shopping. In fact, multiple lists as i need sometimes to do a party, or restock the core stuff, or household things not food. This would be very helpful. Apr 2018 Update: the app needs to allow an order from a specific store and not all the carts at the several store items have dropped into. As is, an incomplete order from stores will occur when the user wants to purchase just the items in one specific store. I’ve had to delete the items in stores 1 and 2 in order to place my order from store #3. We shouldn’t have to delete the items. That can be a time waste for the users of thus app. Sept 2018 Update: it still concerns me that 1. I cannot have items from more than one store in my cart because on checkout I cannot chose which store I want items from in the current order. So, my partial list of items for my 2nd store, get sent for the shopper too. I therefore cannot use this APP to work on lists from multiple stores - as my shopping list. 2. The APP or by administrative decisions rewards from my store cannot be gained because for no reason but ‘we don’t do that’ I cannot enter my rewards card number for any store. I have discounts by membership at my coop (10%), rewards as gas discounts from one of my grocery stores, vary other rewards or discounts that when a register total the reward would be applied if I shopped in-store or on that store’s own web /APP and pay whatever delivery fee they offer. In most, the delivery fee is waived at $35-45 dollars. 3. I shop a Target often. But now they have switched programs and dropped Instacart. It’s not economical to have both delivery program. So, I must evaluate if having an Instacart membership benefits me more than Target’s program or if no memberships (just pay delivery fees) gives me my best use of my money.

249945286585's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/5/18 7:22 PM
Why would I want something COMPLETELY different from what I ordered as a replacement. The company should simply do a refund like the Walmart pick-up app . How is the shopper going to know what I like (and guess what-they didn’t). I ended up with something that I promise you all I’m never going to eat. A legit waste of money. At least this delivery was free. If you’re open minded to trying new things however, this will work for you.

@Sigil's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/4/18 9:34 PM
The app isn't userfriendly. Cant’t cancel order or edit order. Can’t cancel service renewal via app. Company could be more transparent. The grocery selection in app is inferior to the actual store. Shoppe can’t find items that are in stock! I think the future is pickup services.
VMR52852's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/4/18 8:44 PM
I think this is a great service. I do not usually use it to buy produce as I prefer to pick my own. The people are always polite and on time within the time frame requested. I have always been informed when something I have ordered is unavailable and have only once been disappointed by a replacement item. I usually do my own shopping unless I need heavy items such as a flat of water. I do find it expensive, but I am very glad it is available.

I connected thru Covet game, for Tapjoy offers. Should have paid out prize instantly upon order. Did not, but decided to allow order anyway. The delivery was scheduled for time, driver was on time, I used coupons from Shoppers and it honored. Was happy with everything. Than before I could pursue the prize not paid, I realized there was a charge from this company for $125.00 annual fee for delivery. Not only Misleading, but cc fraud. Do not sign up, no matter what!!!!
quasipoetica's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/4/18 3:22 AM
The order did not arrive in the window I requested, and the constant chat with the shopper defeated the whole purpose of convenience in shopping. I would have enjoyed shopping for the food more myself. I also never got my first free order as the app promised. Walmart pickup is about a trillion times better.

bhanson20's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/30/18 7:53 PM
While this app is convenient for easily picking out groceries, it is extremely difficult to pay. I entered my card information four times and it continually rejected my card. I called customer service and they clearly had no interest in helping me. When I drove to the grocery store and bought them there, there was no issue with my credit card, so I know that it was an issue with the app and not my bank itself.
SKB0UL's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/30/18 3:43 PM
Though the app has really good user experience, it leaves a bad taste after every purchase as you don’t know how much they are overcharging as compared to the in-store pricing.
ashleigh 91's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/30/18 3:27 PM
There should be a comments area so you can communicate with the shopper on preferences... Also, when you have the wrong item on your list and it only allowed you to replace it not remove it!! You also only allow to replace an item with “like” items which doesn’t help if you have the WRONG item!!!

I recently moved to a city and chose to give up my car. I was looking for an app that can deliver groceries conveniently, and went for instacart. The shopper luckily left the receipt in my bag, and I saw that instacart charged me almost ten dollars more for the items I asked for than what they actually paid for in the store. So not only did I pay a service fee, tip, delivery fee they also markup the groceries. It is unethical. And when I contacted them they refused to address the issue and kept telling me their digital receipt is more accurate than a receipt actually printed at the store. Never again am I going to use this app.

Niknaki_T's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/30/18 10:16 PM
Instacart saves you a trip to the store, but doesn’t save you money. Now that Kroger shopping is available through Instacart I decide to try it. I understand the increase in price of some items, but my shopper left my store receipt in the bag and my order came out to $74.63, but I was charges $98.32...BIG DIFFERENCE! The shopper used his Kroger card and got the items at the sale price but none of those savings were passed on to me. Yes, I was able to to do other stuff in the House, but saving money is important to me. I would have been better off just using Kroger’s shopping service and just picking my groceries up at the store.

kimberlyA79's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/3/18 8:08 PM
So I always wondered why most of the Instacart shoppers do not leave your receipt in your bags. Today I figured out why, it is because this sight charges you a price and in reality they are over charging you for your purchases. I understand everyone is busy and this is a convince but we already pay a service and delivery fee on top of being over charged for your purchases. Think of it like this on most orders you are over paying $20+ and honestly is it that much of a great service? After today I will probably never do this service again. Just beware of what you are truly paying and how this company works!
Slink33's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/3/18 7:33 PM
For the most part, this app is very convenient for someone who is short on time, or just lazy. I used to enjoy the app, but you are not able to put in your membership number to save, and the fact that Instacart is forcing the service fee is <<<. If I’m forced to pay that, what makes you think I also went to tip? I’d rather my money go to the shopper/driver! Clearly, Instacart makes their profit from the app anyway, so why an additional fee? They are being greedy and unethical
Cs Alexandria's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/3/18 7:04 PM
Bizarre “service” glitch allows shoppers to go to stores out of your neighborhood that have no items or reduced selection of what you were able to order in-app and then claim that items are out of stock when the store down the street from your house has them. Customer service, albeit chipper, offers little in the way of support. Not worth the annual fee for their “free” delivery.

Whit's End's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/3/18 2:51 PM
I used Instacart only a couple of times because I was overcharged by about $20 on my first order. Produce is where you get ripped off the most, I think ($7 for a $2.50 cucumber, $8 for $3 broccoli) but they also constantly substitute more expensive items. I’m not sure if this is to get bigger tips (the shoppers don’t make much money). My shopper also made a substitution that I couldn’t use at all and even though I indicated I didn’t want the item, he checked out with it anyway. I sent Instacart the receipts and screenshots for the items I ordered and they gave me a credit. But they didn’t tell me it expired in a month (which seems ridiculous since it was in fact my own money). All in all, I paid $80 for $40 worth of groceries and I did tip the guy before I realized he’d ripped me off. Just be prepared to read all the fine print, check everything on your receipts and lose at least a little money in one way or another.

Tap into the store’s inventory API and give me an idea of what they actually have. Sick of ordering a bunch of stuff to get to a minimum only to have the main item I really wanted not be in stock. 9/10 times most items won’t be available 👎🏾

DanniTooFyeee!'s Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/29/18 12:01 AM
I don’t have a car so I use this service to save me uber trips to the store hoping that when I want my groceries, I’d be able to get them. I’m in college so I tend to be busy throughout the day and can only order the groceries at night. This happened to me twice where I’ve been waiting for the groceries to come and there’ll be no update on how soon the shopper will be. I even waited 3 hours before on my groceries to give them the benefit of the doubt to see if they would end up coming. I had to cancel then order an uber to go to the store which is very inconvenient since I already have a subscription for this app. I believe that Instacart needs to do better with workers or being more accurate on the latest time a person will be able to get groceries. I’m literally waiting on an order now so I can make dinner and it’s taking them almost 2 hours to start shopping after I put that I wanted my grocery within an hour and now I’m starving. There’s other things that people already mentioned that’s wrong with that app, such as, not receiving the right things I’ve ordered or not receiving it at all and it showing up that I never ordered it. I don’t like this because there’s no way to tell after you got your items that you got all of them unless you take a screenshot or remember it. I also don’t like that switch items that are no where near what I wanted. I also don’t like that they don’t allow you time to accept or reject the changes that a shopper makes.

We ordered $200+ worth of groceries that took an hour past the 2 hour delivery time we were told. The shopper marked that he was here then no one showed up! He stole hundreds of dollars worth of our groceries. Of course we were reimbursed however we had to wait until the next day for their next delivery time. There have been other times where a driver will forget some items and never bring them to us upon realization and never bother to correct it in the system. Had we not noticed, we would be paying extra for items we did not receive. They really need to ensure they have trustworthy and responsible shoppers because I’m tired of being robbed of money and time. Also many items do not come up in search for some reason although they are available through the app. For example, if I search macaroni and cheese, the brand I want does not show up. Then when I select a random one, it will show up in related items. Just absurd. They should show all the related items in the search results.

As a mother of 3 under 3-years old, it is very difficult to go grocery shopping. Loading everyone in the car, trying to fit all the groceries in the cart with a car seat in it, walking out of the store with no tantrums or more cookies than we need. Instacart allows me to order exactly what I want with no problems. I really like that I can watch the shopper check off items and replace items as they are shopping. All of our shoppers have been extremely friendly! This has been a life saver in the past 6 months since my newest baby was born!!! Thank you Instacart for making life a little less stressful!

Delivery guy mishandled the case of beers and broke almost all the bottles. Still he left the case with and asked me to contact Instacart for refund and when I did I got a reply asking me to carry the case, which by now was drenched in alcohol and filled with glass pieces, back to the retailer to get the refund. Utter nonsense. I tried explaining my situation both on their email platform and Twitter. It’s been a week now and no response from them. Was using this platform for more than an year, but never experienced such terrible service.

Stay away from this app. They’d give you a different total at check out and then charge you more when you get your order. Their $20 coupon doesn't work. They gave me a $19 total at check out and by the time I got my delivery, they charged me $42! I called customer service and they told me my $20 credit was not valid because the referral bonus was not active anymore. Not cool! And said they could not do anything about it until I get someone to sign up with my referral code. I guess that would go on and on and on until their last customer wont complain about the charges they’re doing on your card. Not cool!

eatherpussy's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/27/18 4:27 PM
Most of the people complaining on here are cheap people who don’t tip, (if somebody is shopping for you, taking the time to do what you’re too lazy or to busy to accomplish, it’s not hard to be generous for somebody who is doing something valuable for you and your family, I mean we all have to eat right?) If you’re going to use the platform then you should put detailed information in the “comments section” for the driver. If you don’t put any detailed info such as “contact me if items are not available” or “I’m allergic to this or that” I’m vegan or vegetarian” that way you can discuss with the shopper what you would like to replace it with. They aren’t superhero’s they are human like you and me, and you and the shopper don’t know one another so how are they supposed to know how to better the shopping experience for you if you don’t put down the information you feel is important for the shoppers experience? It’s a great platform and I’ve used it plenty of times, I tip well, and I put detailed information for the driver when arriving to find my apartment, that way there is no delay with my delivery.

Well, service was on point. On time and right food but Albertsons receipt was 395.40 including tax, bags, and bottle fees. They charged $445.97 plus bags and tax and bottle fees. So my total bill including the service fee ($22) free delivery coupon ($35 dollars off) and $20 off coupon plus a 15% tip for the driver, came to $503.74. Soo it cost me $108 for the service today and if I bought the same thing tomorrow without my 2 coupons it would cost $150 for the service. A little steep if u ask me. They do say on the website that the store prices and their prices are not the same so I won’t get the lower rate. A lot of reviews about that already I guess. Since you already pay a service fee and a delivery fee and a tip to the driver, where does the food price difference go? That $60 difference being refunded would have made this a 5 Star review.

Runnnnn away from this app it’s such an inconvenience to the point that I never leave a bad review for a app I don’t like until now. I signed up for the express service with 1 hour promised delivery once ordered. Mind you the only reason I used this app be cause I’m home healing and the doctor doesn’t want me driving right now. After selecting the items from the desired store at about 9am which was followed by a notification stating that the driver was running late but I wasn’t annoyed just yet. Then I received another notification with the time frame of 12-12:30p which I was lenient about because of the previous notification. So now we’re two notifications in and still no groceries! At 1:15p I get another notification stating that my order had been rescheduled for tomorrow between 2-3p ! Excuse me ! Thanks for waisting my whole day I’m in need of things to get well and you reschedule my delivery and the drive not even text me or call to inform me of why it’s being rescheduled. When I called the customer service number all I got was a I don’t know hat to tell you as of why the driver didn’t contact you and we can give you $5 on your account because we don’t have any delivery opening available today. Please don’t be upset ma’am because the selected store’s system crashed when the driver was finalizing the purchase. I totally get that the system may have crashed but have the decency to let me know what’s going on instead of just flat out rescheduling my order! If I could give a negative I would!!!

You have to pay like $149.00 to use it and any “Savings” you get just goes to make up for the jacked up price to subscribe to the service. They mArk up the prices of the stuff you want and then give you a “savings price” which ends up being more than it would be if you went to the store and bought it yourself . They stick you twice with the $$$ you pay fir using the service. This looks like a legalized way to take advantage of the disabled, elderly, bedridden or anyone else who is unable to get to a store on their own Instacart can go kick itself in the privies.

Well, this is my first review EVER. Late arrival on my groceries and no notification about it at all. ALSO, I somehow got charged TWICE on my bank account from Instacart. I called customer service and the girl had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and was not helpful. I asked to speak to the supervisor and the wait to actually SPEAK to one was ridiculous. I am calling again tomorrow and plan on filing a dispute with my credit card company on the 2nd charge. WASTE.OF.TIME. Especially, when I can get the groceries myself.
HTXappREVIEW's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/25/18 8:53 PM
Shoppers do not pick produce you would. They grab in a hurry and constantly say not available on items. When you know for a fact hey are because I had to go to the same store after the delivery, to get everything they said was out is stock. Also, all items are inflated from actual store price. On top of which they add a service fee and of course you need to tip. Should just charge a flat fee ranging on # of items and distance from store to delivery point, less fees would entice bigger tips also. Great concept for busy people, but after a couple attempts to use, I will make the time to go myself. Last bill was $133, same items plus a couple more fruits at the store came out to $98.

What a nightmare of an application. This service/application is the Uber of grocery shopping, but a rip off! I empathize with the driver because it is a lot of money and information is being thrown their way, I don’t expect them to be perfect. However, I do expect more from Instacart and I expect to pay for the exact items “I” purchased at the grocery store!!!!! I did not receive all of the items ordered but I was still charged for everything! THE HUSTLE: Instacart OVER CHARGES using a guesstimate of the total bill for items purchased at the physical grocery store. To make matters worse I called their customer service line only to hear about 10 other conversations going on in the background. CSR said I’ll get a refund in about 7-10 business days. To make matters even worse i noticed I didn’t get all the cauliflower I ordered... time to call again... This is a technology company that is trying to make a quick buck on people

Just one thing with getting sliced lunchmeat from the deli you could have a drop down box on how to slice it. Then the service will be flawless. May not be important to some but I would like to order lunchmeat and have it sliced thin. Tried it twice but never happened. Last shopper said well I asked them to slice it like that. She didn’t care I’m going to try Amazon Fresh see how that goes or just go myself. Can’t get good service these days.

They over charge. They do not honor in store prices. They charge the prices online. For example. If you buy steak that is on sale for $8.99 a pound but the steak on their website or app is 16.00 per pound. They are going to charge the $16 and not refund the difference. Do not use them. They are crooks.

Tried instacart on 6 different occasions and 4 of those orders were either ignored at the store or the shopper would notify me that the majority of the products on my order were out of stock suddenly. I did pay for an Express membership only to be wildly disappointed with the service level.

It was truly a blessing to be able to rely on these kind of services when I am not able to do the tasks myself. But for some of you who have not had an experience doing this kind of job at some point in your lives. Let me speak from a “Full Service Shopper” point of view so you don’t have to. When you complain about your order not being shopped right away - Often times, when Shoppers receive your orders, they have to drive 30-45 mins to the store they are being sent to (by Instacart). Note: Not ALL Whole Foods, or Publix, or Giant locations are partnered with Instacart. The one that is, is probably 30-45 mins away from you. Please keep that in mind. Who would want strangers knocking at their door at 12:45am and who would want to deliver items to a complete stranger around that time either?! Please think about that when Instacart offers you that option. The chances of getting that order fulfilled is very slim. Shoppers are not paid well to even consider taking a shift on midnight! When you complain that shoppers are lazy - Tell me why you’re using the service again???!! Shoppers are given time to shop for your items. Usually, it is less than a minute per item. The pressure of completing an order, plus items that are not usually in their usual spots in the groceries (which at times can be spotted during picking of the rest of your item, or no possible good replacements, can, a lot of times, prohibits the shoppers from giving you a perfect order. Sometimes, Shoppers replace items because the items you requested are not out in the system. Did I mention, Shoppers are instructed to make a decision to replace an item within 30 seconds? How can they possibly know what each and everyone likes, let alone make a decision in such short amount of time? When you complain about Shoppers being overly communicative - Don’t you complain about Shoppers being uncommunicative also?? A sign of a great Shopper is when they show interest to give what you want and not just any recommendation the app would give. When you complain about prices being higher that the actual price in stores - Do you really expect Shoppers to willingly break their backs, put wear and tear on their own vehicles, and use their own fuel for nothing so you can stay in your jammies, fatten up your belly while you watch your football team lose on TV? You are not paying for just the item alone. You are also paying for someone to do the shopping for you, deal with crazy crowd, and drive in crazy traffic in the rain, and hand deliver them to your door. When you complain because your order got canceled or late because of the severe weather - Why don’t you get your a** off the couch and try to shop for yourself in dangerous condition?! Again, Shoppers are Independent Contractors. They can choose to work on the days and hours that works for them. They have children to take care, they have to go to work, continue school, sleep, run errands, eat, rest, and do other things that you probably take for granted. THEY ARE HUMANS LIKE YOU!! I have sick kids at home and I ordered an organic whole chicken so I can make homemade chicken noodle soup. She replaced it with a pre cooked rotisserie chicken that was less than half of what I paid and not what I needed. I messaged her and she said it was too late she already left, but it was right away. So I am hoping I will get reimbursed for this.

My main issue with this company is that unsubscribing from emails and closing your account can’t be done without emailing their customer support. I expect a company that stores my credit card info to give me more control over my account. Also, I find that shoppers are pretty hit or miss with the service they offer..lots of replacing items instead of tracking down the right ones.
Misscoco84's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/23/18 8:39 PM
The app could do a better job of providing detail on each item. Nutrition information is minimal for some items and even worse, there is often no way to read what’s on the back of the items packaging (to determine dietary details). In this sense, the Peapod app is much better. Also, many items are often and regularly sold out. I doubt this is the apps fault but perhaps they could do a better job of regularly updating or keeping track of inventory information for each store.
lcytes's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/23/18 7:26 PM
Can’t in good faith recommend this service. While it is very convenient, i just don’t believe the price is worth it, and the company is not transparent with their costs. In short you are paying a premium for the annual service, you are paying 10-15% (or more) premium PER ITEM in your order, and then they automatically add another 10-15% on top of your already inflated cart. Last can be removed but it is very easy to forget for each order. - expensive to pay for their delivery service (i paid for the $120 or so for their 1 year subscription option). - for every order, they auto enable additional fees and tips for drivers and make it very difficult to find and remove these auto-added fees. This is on top of already paying the premium subscription for delivery annually. It comes out to 10-15% of your order additional if you don’t remove the option, and it is easy to forget to do this. - ** most groceries they deliver from each item is priced 10-15% higher (or more) but they do not make this clear to you other than saying “prices may vary from in store”. For example: at HEB ground beef might be $5 and in Instacart it will be priced at $6. Love the idea and convenience but I disagree with the obscure nature of this company. I will keep looking for other options.

The price we pay for the service is worth every single dime! I save time and money. Really! As no more waste of food, I can spend my usual grocery shopping time on something else. I have been using this app since they started and it’s amazing to see how it got better and better. It’s since the beginning of this year I started the annual subscription service. So glad I did it- it is a life saver. Before this, I used to shop way more than what I need as I thought, oh maybe I would make this dish and that dish. There would be time that I ended up not making any of the things I planed / brought out of urge and they got wasted. With this app and the service, I can better plan my meals and not having to worry about if I plan to host a party spontaneously or want to make something else for diner. All I go it quickly go to the app and order it and it will come to me within a couple hours if not earlier. I also like how I can easily see what’s on sales within be app, especially for all my usual items. On top of that, the customer service was awesome. They always resolved any issues? Which is rare, in a very timely manner. My only suggestion for the app is to please enable me to save default “don’t replace” for my whole order. This way I don’t have to go in it to change one by one, which if I order many items, it wastes unnecessary time. Regardless, good work and keep it up!

How many problems in one app can you count? Free delivery? Service charge. Have to go through each item for no substitution-time consuming ( you may pay a lot for hardly no delivery and warm items) or may cancel out the free delivery BECAUSE YOU DID NOT CANCEL THE NUMEROUS NO SUBSTITUTES It is not less time consuming. Not suppose to bring inside the house? (Don’t tip on app) Rather GO-shopping. Don’t say-you weren’t warned! Rip-0ff a cart bye!
Bebemuffins's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/23/18 2:57 AM
This app is pretty convenient when you don’t want to shop but their drivers are really not up to par. I’ve used this service a few times, maybe 6 or 7, and we always have some issue. We never get our full grocery list. There’s always refunds and a handful of replacements. I’ve requested replacements instead of refunds and always get denied. By the time they’re done shopping 25% of our wish list has been returned. This has happened every single time. I’m definitely making this my last time.

Would give 5 stars if markup prices weren’t so high on certain. Items. I don’t mind less than $1 markup but $2-$5 or more is too much even for the convenience of same day and lower delivery charge. I would rather have a higher flat delivery charge than to pay mark ups on every item. I also hate that you don’t honor sale prices in store ads or coupons from store. I am disabled and unable to drive or shop so this is my only option unless a friend will pick up from store for me. Pickup order at Kroger honors their ad prices. Walmart doesn’t mark up their prices for delivery and charge a fat $9.95 delivery charge no matter what time of day. However their cutoff for pickup or delivery seems to be 1:00pm which is too early for me most of the time. Thank you for your service and I hope to see improvements in future updates. I love the substitution choices!!!!

I feel like items are substituted when the shopper is too lazy to find the specific item requested. Things are very rarely out when I do my own shopping. Fruit is never delivered ripe when requested. Delivery almost always arrives near the end of the block requested and sometimes it’s later than that. I suggest if you want something within a specific hour you set up a delivery time that’s an hour earlier.

Hi there! I’m a shopper with Instacart. At first I was excited to do this, but as I move on into the process I just got so discouraged for the amounts bit of scam from the customers. You allowed them to place an item as damaged, when the shopper put it as refund. You let do what ever the customer wants. Missing items, when they are not, poor service when they been extra rude to the shopper, poor replacement when the customers met don’t even answer a question. And then all that feedback “unfiltered” as you guys call it, goes into the shopper, who gets extremely discouraged and upset for the unfair feedback. I have seen my fellow shoppers, showing a whole list “missing items” and you do not anything. Your app has so many loopholes that scammer knows how to get free stuff. YOU GUYS ARE LOSING MONEY BY THE MINUTE. Your policies are strict for the shopper but so soft for the customer. It should be balanced. I’ll give you an example. Monique order some crab legs, they are out, I, the shopper refund them in the app, but 2 days later they show up on my “how am I doing” as DAMAGED! That was almost $56 dollars that you have to give back to the customers. Your app allows this all the time. You don’t educate the customer and don’t limited the window time for customer to do this. You are becoming another Uber, leaving your shopper on the blind and not taking care of them. We, the shopper are your force power so the app can deliver the idea of shopping from the phone.

Hi there! Here is the deal about Instacart. They will refuse to show you were actual receipt. They ALSO, actively deceive you by saying that they will simply email you the receipt. The receipt that they email you reflect their markups. So BE WARNED - there is no way to determine how much your items actually cost and here is the deal: they mark your items up (sometimes as much as 3x). The additional, even crazier deception, is that they say “this is how much you saved” but ACTUALLY that is how much you would have saved because as they say, they don’t actually honor in store savings (I.e BOGO, half off, etc). Which brings me to this: I am seeking council to determine whether this actually might constitute illegality. The active deception and whether you actually have a right to know how much they are marking up your groceries (when presenting that the prices are not marked up as they are). If you would like to be a part of that class action lawsuit, comment in the ratings and let me know why. My lawyers are reviewing the case and practices of instacart, and are optimistic.

I also have 2 different accounts it seems and have talked with several people in customer service about the issue via phone. Can’t hear for all the other people talking in the background or the person can’t understand me or vice verse. I usually have to cancel an order I spent at least 30 mins to an hour on and start all over by logging out and then hoping for the best at check out that it’s now on the account with free delivery. No one seems to know how to resolve this issue or the issue with the 5 hour delivery.

Sometimes, Shoppers replace items because the items is you requested is not in the Shoppers app. Did I mention, Shoppers are instructed to make a decision for replacing an item within 30 seconds? How can they possibly know what each and one of the customers like let alone make a decision in such a short amount of time. When you complain about Shoppers being overly communicative - Don’t you complain about Shoppers being uncommunicative also?? I sign of a great Shopper is that showing you that they want the best for the customers. When you complain about prices being higher that the actual price in stores - Do you really expect Shoppers to willingly break their backs, put wear and tear in their vehicles, and use their own fuel for nothing so you can stay in your jammies, fatten up your belly while you watch your football team lose on TV. I’m not saying that Instacart is perfect nor I’m saying there are no shady Shoppers out there. Because there ARE shady Shoppers out there and Instacart has been (and continue to do so) UNFAIR AND UNETHICAL towards their Independent Contractors (Shoppers) and their Customers. But there are ALSO a bunch of shady, unappreciative, greedy, and dishonest entitled customers out there that just blame everyone else but themselves.

There’s no reason for you to pay as much as you are for delivery. You can set up deliveries for much less with local store deliveries. On top of all else I entered a promo for my first delivery ten times and never got the money off. The fee was $17 then moved to $30 and then when I went to pay it changed to $40. I don’t understand I had two items. Uninstalled.

So this app is not what I’m expected and the check was so expensive. I called the app they said that the web page is different than the store uhhh? Driver awesome

I’ve used this service 6 times (shame on me). The very first time I used it was awesome. The shopper was fast and efficient. Every item I ordered was present. But after that it went downhill. Second time I ordered, I got notification after notification that my items were “out of stock” and being replaced. The shopper claimed the store was out of clementines and replaced them with strawberries. What?? No! How does that make sense? Then she claimed they were out of jelly bellies and tried replacing them with that old school hard candy. Next they were out of gf bagels and she tried to replace with regular (I’m allergic to wheat). I finally told her to cancel the order. 3rd time was the very same experience. 4th time I placed an order at 7:45pm. At 9:30 I received a message from my shopper saying she had an emergency and couldn’t do the order. By then it was too late to place another. 5th time (and technically last time I ordered) everything seemed to go okay. The only item that was substituted was my gf cookies, but it said the replacement was another gf brand. It turns out it wasn’t. When my groceries arrived, they were all in the same bag, which is fine, but the cookies were on top. I grabbed the bag and immediately broke out in hives. (I’m SUPER allergic to wheat). I ended up having to throw the whole bag out. Instacart offered to send a replacement order for free in 2 hours time (6th order). I agreed. But before they could get started shopping, my allergic reaction progressed and I ended up in the ER, so I told them to cancel the order as I wouldn’t be home to receive it. They told me I would not be charged for any orders. Not only was I charged two days later, but I was charged $2 more than the app said my total came to. They couldn’t explain why. I just spent 30 mins on the phone with cust service to get a refund. We’ll see if I get it and if it includes the extra $2 they technically stole from me.

They waaaay over charge you the customer for their service. Watch for the hidden charges. As a driver, it’s a joke unless you like to shop for other people and make $4 an hour. Much better apps out there than this company.

I love the convenience of Instacart.... I can literally fill my grocery cart during work and have everything I need waiting at my front door when I get home. The shoppers are always super nice and let me know if there are any issues. The app is user friendly, remembers prior purchases, and even has a chat option to talk directly to the shopper. I use it about 2-3 times a month only because the prices are higher than in the store, and there are additional fees also. If I wasn’t on a budget I would most likely use it more often. However, when in a pinch, I take advantage of this awesome service!

As much as I love to go to the grocery store and shop... my 9, 4 and 1 year old daughters don’t really allow me the time to concentrate so ordering from home now is soooooo much easier. If I send my baby to daycare and she’s running out of milk or food, I don’t have to leave work and rush over to bring any, I could just order it and have it shipped over there. I was even able to order groceries for my parents from my account and surprise them with some groceries. I love it! Such a freakin time saver!!!!

More than once, whole bags of ordered items have not been delivered. Instead of delivering the forgotten items ASAP, they just credit your account and then you have to not only go back in and re-order the items but then are put to the back of the line and have to wait until 3-5 hours.

My bf was happy to eat them, but I would rather see a refund than a replacement with Dairy items when I specifically ordered only non dairy ones.

PSA : #Instacart -thieves!!! I have been using their service for over a year. TODAY, they chose to hit my account for $149 for a year of unlimited service. This is an offer that is given to you at the beginning of your membership, which I opted out for THEN. They tell me otherwise. I use the in store offers to get my free delivery. They took my money this morning and I canceled ASAP, however they won’t give me my money back for 3-5 business days! That is complete and utter BS. This offer went into effect it seems because I made a password change when I noticed that my loyalty card for #Wegmans fell off. They refused to help me, instead they repeatedly read off of a script. When I asked for a supervisor, “Vaughn” was kind enough to at least say “Ma’am” each time that he read his prepared statement to me. Might I add it took over 10 minutes to even get connected to a supervisor?!?!?! The lack of respect and customer service I received was enough to make me pull out of their service. I’m sorry that someone will no longer have me on their Wegmans route, I always have a big order and I am a huuuuuuuuge tipper with a BIG EFFING MOUTH. Be prepared to be bashed everywhere Instacart.

The pricing on items from website to stores need to be updated to match the actual store prices. I still would like to see ebt/food stamps as a payment method. Lately I’ve been very disappointed in my Instacart experience. When my designated shopper has been shopping they have had to replace/refund almost every item. And when I share my replacement they say even that isn’t in stock. I understand that sometimes stores go in and out of stock items but this has been a consistent problem for me. I am paying for this service and with all the fees, tip and tax you think they would know the stores better and be able to deliver the products that I’ve asked for or close to that. Instead I’ve been given bags of food that weren’t what I wanted. I’ve also had shoppers give me an attitude. There have been a couple times where I didn’t even receive a couple items that I paid for. I find this unacceptable. I do not recommend Instacart.

Everjonez's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/18/18 6:07 PM
The shoppers are poorly trained. I never have an order without mistakes, despite selecting replacements for many items and having instructions. I am supposed to receive a phone call if there are changes to the order that I did not approve, and every single time it’s an automated call that hangs up as soon as I answer. Shipt has much much better customer service and trained employees, but they don’t always have the selection of food that Instacart does. But I am not pleased with having to use Instacart.

Now, and App that has been difficult to use with voiceover has become almost impossible to use. The search feature no longer works with voiceover after items have been placed in cart. Apparently the cart icon somehow displaces the search field in the search function. this problem has begun within the past seven days. Using search is an important way of using the app for voiceover users. It’s impossible to correctly set delivery time using voice over. Serious error. Strongly urged Instacart to review it's own app using voiceover commands. Sad! A lot of voiceover users are good customers. Fix this!
DC Chic's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/18/18 2:27 PM
The app doesn’t have every item the store has, and the shoppers sometimes go rogue with “replacements”. Difficult to report problems with orders and track status of problem report. Not a good trail on credit status or what credits are for when received. There should be an easier way to repeat order with replacement options and instructions to shoppers.
instant frustration's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/18/18 2:09 PM
I was expecting to pay around $20, maybe $25 for the total delivery, service, and tip. When I got my receipt I learned that my grocery receipt was $20 less than my receipt on Instacart. The whole transaction cost me over $50.00. When I brought the discrepancy to Instacart they were less than helpful stating that they reserve the right to charge differently than the grocery store. What I did to save time cost me more time and money as I’ve been trying to understand their justification. Look at your receipts to gauge the true cost of the service. For me it’s not worth $50 to save myself an hour and a half. And don’t even get me started on replacements. Dried cherries and dried cranberries are not the same thing. And no it never popped up for me to approve it. Anyone in need of $6 dried sour cherries, let me know.

I decided to use a grocery delivery app since I move to a building without an elevator. Aside from the increase in the committed yearly membership fee, and the thrown in your face up-charging is every & any item possible, InstaCart then adds in a “SERVICE FEE” -which fluctuates based on items purchased. (If spending around $90-100 expect to pay around $6-8) funny how if spend $60-$70-service fee is $3-4). It’s basically a shipping and tipping fee in addition to those exact fees your already paying. And that’s if you hav Now I understand it’s to contribute to background screening, however it should be a FLAT RATE if that’s their rationale. Mind you these additional fees apply when you pay for a yearly membership, but it’s hardly worth it. Honestly, it’s more grief to be in stand by to try & replace the item you wanted with only 2 options or if the shopper is super lazy they’ll just refund an easy replaceable item without trying. I’ve had an experience where after spending a solid 2 hrs picking out items not too horrendous up priced AND actively engaging in text to approve items.... the shopper decided to stop after I was told my order was completed. I then had a new shopper who decided to just refund anything like pasta based on the shape without attempt to suggest a replace. I’ve had wrong delivers with a mixture of my items & another, or flat out MISSING A LARGE AMOUNT OF ITEMS! I have horror stories for days and only sparingly use the app because I can’t get a refund. SPARE YOURSELF THE GRIEF & HASSLE. Find another app.

PSA: Watch our for those hidden upcharges. They make it out to sound like a great way to get your groceries delivered when you live a busy lifestyle or just can’t make it to the store. It states on their website that they honor certain loyalty programs that stores offer, so it’s safe to say that the larger, more we’ll known grocers should be supported, right? I ended up paying double what I would have for my groceries, so I contacted their customer service line. Julian said that they do not honor the prices in store and only go by what’s on Instacart. That means no refund for me. Paying for 15 pounds of meat when the price on the packages literally say otherwise for 6 pounds of meat is absolutely absurd. To top it off, they jack up their prices by .40 or .50 cents on a ton of what they offer. That’s nice when you can have $10 off your order with a coupon, but are paying an extra $20 plus $5 service fee and a tip on a $70 order. I ended up spending $90 on a $60 (with $10 off) order after all the adjustments that were made according to Instacart’s pricing. After replying to the customer service rep I have yet to even receive a response within their “2 hour reply” window. It has been nearly a day. I am both infuriated and disappointed with this company and will not be using it again in the future.

Once I was charged for things that I actually didn’t get delivered to me and because they refuse to give paper recipdon’t give an actual receipt you can’t always prove it until Friday then had a lot of trouble with the representatives but I’ve also had to call back multiple times when someone can help me

What is the point of asking me what item I’d like to replace the item that is not in stock with if that is ignored? Why are all the key items that I want not in stock? Why am I allowed to order an item that is not in stock? Why is this the only business on earth that allows this? A joke of a service, way to expensive considering you end up having to go to the store yourself in the end anyway.

Instacart offered me $15 off my first order of $50+. My account shows the $15 available credit. When my cart total is over $50 the $15 credit does not appear anywhere at any point during checkout. I did not end up placing an order. Instead I decided to try my laptop and mobile site to be sure it was not something on my end. Same crap. I am an avid coupon-user and deal hunter. Gonna check out another app really disappointed.

Instacart is a total lifesaver/timesaver for our family! Not only does it save me from an extra trip to the grocery store.. it keeps me on track to not spend extra money on things I don’t need but see by walking through the aisles. I get exactly what I need and have it delivered to my home all while taking care of my family. Plus.. I get to help support other families that are taking care of my least favorite chore.. groceries.
bryan not using instacart's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/16/18 10:48 PM
Their promotions are misleading. They do not advertise minimum purchase orders on referral promotions and customer service was TERRIBLE in working to resolve the issue or provide a new promo code - which was the reason I decided to give it a try in the first place. Terrible customer service = lost customers.
Adriannaa9371's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/15/18 8:34 PM
It’s impossible to use a promo code on here, it’ll say you have promos but then they don’t work
BigShotRobTX's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/15/18 8:28 PM
Instacart marks up each item and does not show that to customers at checkout as a line item in the totals. This extra fee they told me was to pay for the drivers that shop for you, if that’s true just show and tell us customers. Drivers I have spoke with have told me they make money from the tips alone. Well if that’s true where does the markup money go? Instacart already charges you a fee and have said they only make their money from that. I have spoke with the grocery store folks and they said they don’t set the Instacart prices... again where does the money go? Very deceptive that things can be broken down honestly for customers to see all actual costs.
InstacartReview's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/15/18 6:16 PM
I enjoy the convenience of this service, and the shoppers are always friendly and prompt! The only disappointing aspect is difficultly in using the discounts and promotions that were emailed to me and the lack of competent customer service when calling in to the 800# and emailing them.

It’s makes NO sense that you can not use your debit/prepaid debt card if the correct amount of funds is available on it. Customers shouldn’t be unable to use a service because they decided to keep their money on a prepaid debit card instead of a commonly used bank or credit card service. Your still being paid regardless.

The last 5 times I’ve ordered Instacart they push out the delivery order. Order alcohol? You get it in an hour. Today. Delivery between 7-8. It’s now 9. It’s been pushed out twice. Eta 920 and my dinner party is waiting.
HSC18379's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/15/18 12:54 PM
Instacart advertises annual delivery for a one-time flat-rate. This was great for a long time but they just made their 5% “service fee” mandatory. If you’re forced to pay an additional 5% fee on every order that annual fee isn’t really an annual flat rate. I’m happy to tip the delivery drivers but furious that Instacart misled me about the fees associated with their service.

I ordered flowers and chocolates for my girlfriend because we are long distance and I wanted to do something nice for her. I saw this app and decided to try it out and it was the worst idea I’ve ever had. The things I bought got delivered to the wrong house, no conformation, no nothing but don’t worry they said that it got delivered. So I’m frustrated waiting for my girlfriend to be surprised but she receives nothing. So I call the customer service number and the person I contacted said “things get delivered to the wrong house more than we’d like”. First off how can you run a business and not fix your problems. Second off the person I spoke to also said they would give me a FULL refund. Which should be what happened because I didn’t even get anything I ordered. I thought all was good until my girlfriend called back and found out I didn’t get a full refund. They refunded me for the products I bought not all the taxes included as well. Honestly I was just trying to do something nice for my girlfriend and buy her flowers and that couldn’t happen because of your company and then you try to screw me out of my own money. Horrible company. I don’t plan on ever using InstaCart again until things get fixed where you are guaranteed the things you ordered. Very upset.

THEY STOLE MY RING's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/13/18 8:59 PM
This company is very shady. They did not help me when one of their shoppers came in and stole my ring at my job. The customer service is pretty bad. They lie a lot to you just to get you off the phone and don’t try to help you. I have a picture of the woman, name, and exactly where she came from and sent it to them. And they still some how after 2 weeks are unable to give me an answer. They leave me on hold for 25 minutes thinking I will hang up. The police officers have called them and they had the same complaint as me. I will be filing a law suit against them for not taking any legal action and for a huge lack of customer service.
Me!!<3's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/13/18 8:26 PM
I upgraded to Instacart Express. Ordered my groceries at 11:30am in the morning, with a delivery option of 2pm-5pm. Hours later I received a notification that said I will receive my groceries between 4pm-5pm. Then at 4pm when I’m waiting at home for my groceries I received another notification saying I would receive my groceries between 5:15-6:45pm. This is not reliable based on the fact that I’m leaving my house for a meeting at 5pm. What is the purpose of paying extra for Instacart express if I still can’t rely on the delivery time. I then called Instacart to let them know I will not be home after 5 and I needed them between he time that I selected at 11:30am.(you had enough time) The guy then told me that he can get them delivered between 6:15-8pm. WHAT IN THE WORLD! The time just kept getting pushed. He tried to justify the lateness by telling me that a lot of workers took off......... NOT MY PROBLEM. I asked if it was possible to pick them up. He then said the next pick up time available was the next day at 3pm. RIDICULOUS! I then canceled my order and told him to forget it. I NOW HAVE NO DINNER FOR TONIGHT AND NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY. Do not use Instacart.

Used app 3 times - different issue each time. 1) notification of replaced items for approval doesn’t happen 2) specific instructions on replacement preferences for the items in your order does not save properly or aren’t being viewed by shoppers 3) tried placing an order from a popular grocery store and 95% of items have to be entered as special requests. It takes longer to enter the items than it would take me to drive to the store and shop.

Huge time saver. They have all the stores I’d shop at in SF. Can even get beer/wine at BevMo. No longer have to figure out parking and waiting in line at grocery store. If items are out of stock replacements are generally good although. Best to watch in the app while the person is shopping to approve any replacements.

VintageMonaLisa's Review of InstacartReviewed on 9/1/18 9:35 PM
I just signed up and agreed to the trial EXPRESS service. This is $146 a year, but is supposed to entitle you to FREE DELIVERY and a one hour time frame from multiple stores. I wasn’t given the option to switch to another location, so only a Costco delivery is coming. The “delivery” is free, but there was a $12.00 “service fee” and a $12.00 tip and then they added $30.00 to the amount charged, just in case there are extra charges at the store, etc.!? It’s not that big a deal, but if your budget is tight then it might be a big deal since you’ll have to wait 7 days for your $30.00 “just in case” refund! And now that I need to place a second location order then I’m going to pay an additional “service fee.” I will not keep this Express Service after this experience.

I got it figured that if I ordered thru Instacart I might save at least the $20+ Lift/Uber charge for pickup at the store. Wrong!!! The Instacart developers are beyond greedy! I have seen Fundraisers fee a corporation to death, but Service from Instacart does even better.....! Now let me see.....You pay a $149.00/yr. Membership fee, then you pay between $1.00 to 4.00 more per item depending upon the item, and while you can balance this out bkz you save yourself on transportation with free delivery — It is not until checkout that your learn that there are ADDITIONAL FEES! You have an additional fee for “Platform Maintenance (as if they couldn’t make that a part of the Annual Membership Fee!) AND you are asked to give a 20% TIP to the poor driver (What! Isn’t he PAID?) AND then you have taxes!!!! No comment. Let me say in closing that Publix Employees do not accept tips! Beyond that this is truly an expression of the American Way that takes advantage of those in need!

I've used Instacart many times and was pleased with if; simply choose items and they'll be delivered within a time window. Very easy for someone like me who works a lot. I really liked it, until today... I placed an order around noon to be delivered between 2-3pm. I got a notification through the app that the transaction didn't go through, but my bank account had sufficient funds and had already been processed. After 4!!!! Different calls to their customer support (being put on hold numerous times), I was on the phone for over 2 hours!!! We ordered things for a party; but I was constantly having to leave so that I could talk to different people to figure things out. Problem was they didn't know what the problem was. I was told it wasn't something on my end and heard from a supervisor "things don't always connect". It's 7:30pm now, still nothing delivered, and I am disappointed and frustrated! When Instacart works, it's great; but if there are any problems, you're basically screwed. Honestly, use a different app!

I was still charged $150 afterwards and when I tried to refund it the customer support told me it would be refunded by midnight. Three days later I find out they never refunded my money in my bank account got overdrawn. When I called back to talk to them about this they were absolutely no help and quite rude on the phone. won’t be using this service again

My last list of groceries cost $80.82 at the grocery store (my shopper left the receipt in the bag). I was charged $93.20 for those items plus $5.99 for delivery plus $4.62 for service plus $4.62 for tip (I also gave $5 tip at the door, but that is not included here). Basically I paid $27.61 for the convenience of someone shopping for me. I just had surgery so I really needed the convenience this time, but $30 for delivery??? Wow.

nvpatentlawyer's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/9/18 2:49 PM
So far I have used the service twice to try it out. I paid $25 for one-month membership which includes “free” service. Both times I was charged a 5% service charge. How is that”free?” A 5% tip is also the default, which I have no problem with. But if you say the membership gives you free delivery, that means free, not 5%. That being said, the shoppers did a fine job, were pretty much on time and friendly. I am still debating whether to continue my membership.

Not recommended. Ships is 10000x better. It worked ok a few times. Last two times had some major issues. A random guy showed up with the groceries instead of the woman on the profile, and to make it even worse there were a bunch of missing items. Today, I tried to order groceries for a friend that’s sick. The shopper cancelled the order without messaging me or giving a reason!!! I called to get it taken care of, and instead of a refund or credit for my trouble, they explained that my account was actually charged a cancellation fee!!!!! Eventually I was able to get them to lift the fee, but they refused to give any credit. I ended up having to take MORE time out of my day to deal with this issue.

I love this option. I hate getting out as I get older. Instacart is so prompt and I do love the interaction. If I am not available then I am not disappointed in any changes made if my item is out of stock. It does sometimes make a difference when a male does the shopping. One didn’t know where to look for green bananas. I told him they are just bananas that aren’t ripe. But one gentleman went the extra mile and asked if they had any of my brand of Formula (for my grandson) in the back as it was out of stock and they did! Also came up with a good replacement for the diapers I wanted. I am so happy with the service!

This was a mess from the get go. I signed up for a Express 2 week trial. For some reason in my head I thought it was a 4 week trial so when I went to cancel I realized I had been charged 149 for a year subscription. No big deal. I decided that I would try it out for a year. Excited to make my first delivery order, I made a purchase of over $35 to get a free delivery and it said that I must use a free Express Trial to get free delivery! When clicking on that I was informed that I had already used this! Also, I had clicked on a link directly from my email to "shop now" and get $15 off. This was not reflected on my checkout and there was now a $5.99 delivery fee as well! I called customer service and was told that somehow there was 2 emails address associated with my account and that after my groceries were delivered I would have to call back again to get it resolved. I was told that notes were put on my profile and it would be a quick fix when I called back. So I called back after my groceries were delivered and the person who I spoke with had no notes and no idea what I was talking about. I had to speak with a manager to get the delivery fee back as well as the $15 discount. What a headache and waste of time!

I placed my first and last order. They called to tell me the driver had forgot a sack. I have to go back with their rep and identify the items that weren’t delivered (10 minutes). She then tells me that due to the size of the order she will need to transfer me. I wait 8 minutes on hold and hang up. I can accept an honest mistake but either I was very unlucky or they just don’t have the system ironed out in my area.

I have used this app before with a different store and everything was great. Not this time. I ordered from a nearby Smiths and I had several items that were wrong and missing. This defeats the purpose of having my groceries delivered and ready for the week. I now gave things I don’t need and will need to go to the store. It looks like it was done very sloppy and in a hurry. Some of the produce wasn’t even in a bag. It was just thrown in. Very disappointed.

Rosaa's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/5/18 9:55 PM
I use this app frequently. I would rather spend my time shopping from my phone than out managing traffic, searching for stuff up & down aisles while dodging crowds, and waiting in line. Thank you, modern technology & services like Instacart. One thing I would change about this app is the ability to select which shopping cart I would like to pay for. Currently, if I am adding stuff to my Costco shopping cart and to a second shopping cart from another store, I want to be able to select which cart I am ready to pay for. Because sometimes I’m still adding items to a second cart but am finished adding to the first cart, meanwhile the first cart needs to be paid for before the store closes. Whereas with the second cart, the store doesn’t close for another few hours and I can still browse & add more stuff to it. So currently you pay for all carts in one transaction. And a question: if one cart is worth a couple hundred In items and the other is only worth 30, for example, how are the two drivers tipped since it’s a tip based on a percentage (preselected by user) of the total transaction and not a percentage of the individual cart related to the shopper/driver?
laceym2029's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/5/18 9:17 PM
I’m frustrated because three weeks ago I put together a cart and it wouldn’t take any of my three cards which were declined when I never received a denied alert (which I do when my credit card company denies a charge it doesn’t recognize). Frustrated because of the time I’d spent, I deleted the app then yesterday thought I’d try again. It declined my Apple Pay and my card. Again, no alert suggesting my credit card company rejected it as potentially fraudulent. I wanted to use this app so I could do it quickly and in my own time, not spend my time looking for groceries I can’t buy or waiting on a phone line to explain the issue and trying again. I’ve seen other people review about this issue as well and I thought after a few weeks, maybe it was a glitch and would get fixed. I’m disappointed because it was an awesome idea and I was excited to try it on days I can’t get to the store.

You emailed me a coupon for $15 off. I have been on vacation and unable to use it. Now I’m shopping on Instacart and my coupon is no good. I’ll be happy to find another grocery delivery app. That will reward me for utilizing them.
ZipDag's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/5/18 5:25 PM
I have a couple suggestions If items are not in stock and items need to be replaced, shopper should find replaced item at around the same price and quantity. For instance, sausage on sale foe 2.98. It is out of stock so one was replaced for double the price not what I was expecting. Also please do not allow shopper to purchase dented cans. Asparagus was suppose to be 1.85 a bunch. Why was I charged $12.00 for 2 bunches(that was way out of my budget) but shopper delivered way before expected and she was very nice

Super nice to have groceries delivered. Except the shoppers make the worst decisions and say absurd things like the grocery store is out of milk or chicken breasts... never seen that in 40 years of grocery shopping myself, but happens on Instacart regularly. Also, their substitutions are terrible. Lastly, the tipping situation is confusing. I am happy to tip, but please make it clear who I am tipping and for what.

I am fed up never getting my groceries right... your shoppers are lazy to carry anything that they think is heavy! I’m don’t using your service. I ordered 10 bottles of sparkling water- yet they are not here? And then I was charged for them.

The idea is great but execution is very poor. The items ordered from Costco arrived after the specified delivery time (this was not the first time that this happened). At first I thought this was going to be a good idea, I didn’t want to run to the store to get my dog food. After my purchase, i definitely think i should have gone myself. First, it “recommends” the tip *to start* Second, the bag of food that i was buying was only 19.99 & it wasn’t until after i had placed the order in small print them said i was going to be charged 45$ and after 7 business days it was going to reflect my final charge . THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST THING THEY SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED BEFORE PLACING THE ORDER!!!!!!!! I ended up paying more than double of what my item was worth !!!!!! WILL NOT BE SHOPPING FROM THIS APP AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 19.99 went up to $35 after delivery, service & “tip” . . & then I get charged an additional $10 . Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! If I could cancel my order & get my refund instantly believe me I will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We used to be grateful for Instacart. But they changed it up. They shop it fast but don’t deliver it on time. They shop it, store it and then it sit, sits and is delivered - whenever. Before, The shoppers were enthusiastic, helpful and fast. If you were waiting on an order it’s because they hadn’t started shopping. You could chat w your shopper to add or change things. But the last few times somebody shops right away and sticks it in storage there’s nothing you can do. Your rotisserie’s chicken sits w your frozen ice cream - lonely and afraid in the dark. Yesterday we ordered lunch early for a 12 delivery. The shopped it right away but didn’t deliver it. Bc we were waiting - now til 1 we wanted to add something to our order- nope it’s in storage. When we found out that it wouldn’t be here til 2 we cancelled.

I bought the year subscription and after a month I’m regretting it. I tried a new store and the shopper replaced 2 items. I’ve had this done before but they typically change the price on my receipt and I get charged the correct amount. This time, the items were replaced with cheaper ones but I was charged the higher price on both items. I’ve messaged customer service three times and get the same canned answer each time (we cannot account for store sales or loyalty card items) which does not apply to my situation. I sent a picture of the items that had the price listed on the front and was still not reimbursed. I’ve had a few other minor issues (changing items without asking me, changing them to things I don’t want) but there are some fixes that have helped some with this. TL;DR DO NOT GET THE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP. You’ll get charged extra for things and the customer service is terrible.

I had an awful experience an a shopper which cost me my “saved time”. I was contacted my support and they credited my account, but I refuse to order with this application again. Sad to say shoppers need training for picking out groceries 30% of them were damaged, thrown in, heavier items above, my cucumber was broken in half, produce was not bagged, and my milk carton dented. The cherry tomatoes were out of the box it came in. The bag it came in was also broken. Customer service is kind but that didn’t make up for the process being counterproductive. One star is for customer service and the other is for the delivery man.

You need to be available to choose substitutions which was ok for me. But if size wrong of product or amt. of weight for meat inaccurate, Instacart will not refund your credit card. They put it on their tab forcing you to shop there again if you want your money back. And if dissatisfied with their service and choose not to use them again say goodbye to your money. Meaning, you are just SOL.
kayakauai's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/30/18 9:36 PM
Really poor customer service. Charging DOUBLE on certain items as compared to store pricing. Inconsistent pricing - one time an item was $8, second time it was $16. Tried via email and phone call to get it adjusted, but was told they can't do anything to help me. Also overcharged for sales tax by 400%. Doesn't seem legal. I have proof because driver left the store's paper receipt with my order. While store charged $.70 sales tax, instacart overcharged me $3.80 sales tax. Are they pocketing the difference? Every item was at least $0.10 more than in store (no biggie), and up to 100% more, which is crazy. With the overcharging for items, sales tax, and fees, my order costed over 30% more, or $35 more than the actual items. I would have remained a customer if the manager I spoke to was friendly and offered service, however they treated me extremely poorly so I won't be their customer anymore and highly recommend you think twice before using them. Unless you don't mind overpaying, paying double the retail, and getting no customer service on top of it. For me, with 5 star pricing, I like 5 star service. The company's management's service was 0 at best.

I’ve been using instacart for over a year and in two cities. This app is a lifesaver! I’ve also been impressed by their improvements to customer support. When I first signed up, I found it frustrating, but they’ve done a great job taking feedback and it’s some of the better support out there now. Sometime you can get a shopper who isn’t great, but they do the right thing to remedy that. I’m moving again in a week, and I hope they have it in my new town! I recommend it all the time to my friends, but it isn’t in their area yet. Fingers crossed for continued success and expansion!

Hannotek's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/30/18 2:40 AM
I placed my first order with Instacart this evening, and I was not satisfied at all. I placed my first order after 7pm and the only available delivery time was between 11pm and midnight. That’s not an issue because I’m up late anyways, and I thought it was neat that I could get something delivered that late at night. One of the items I ordered was baby formula, which was a most needed item for tomorrow morning. At 10:22pm, I received a notification that my delivery time was rescheduled until the following morning after 10am. That is a tremendously inconvenient change. I checked tomorrow’s available times, and 11pm to midnight is also available. So what is the reason for the cancellation this evening? If I select the same delivery time tomorrow, will it also get rescheduled? If the time is not available for delivery, do not offer it to a customer. If the store is closed, make sure that time is not available for delivery. I’ve used amazon prime now, jet, and boxed for years with zero cancellations or issues. I don’t know that Instacart will get another chance.
abt12345's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/30/18 2:35 PM
I’m getting tired of items that I select that happen to be out of stock being replaced with items that I don’t want. Stop charging me for things I didn’t ask for and just leave the replacement item out. I’d rather not have what I wanted than pay for something I didn’t ask for. This happens all the time and it’s getting to be very annoying.
Evelyn143's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/30/18 12:20 AM
I loved the services of instacart and used the services almost twice a week for my groceries because I’m usually unable to shop during the week. I loved it until I realized that there was an extra mandatory service charge (that I always opted out of so I can tip my delivery people) was being doled out for every check out, even after I was paying for the annual membership services! I called CS right away and was told that the once optional “service charge” fee will now always be applied to every order and there’s no way around it. There was no warning or alert about this charge suddenly becoming mandatory. It just did overnight and I was paying it without even knowing it because I trusted Instacart... until I realized a consistent up charge in my spending. So like I did with Postmates and their ridiculous extra service charges on TOP of the annual fees, I very sadly dropped my friendship and membership with Instacart. It was getting way too expensive.
Angela del Pino's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/30/18 12:10 AM
I end up saving a lot of money on groceries because I only buy what is in my list! It helps with food wastage too because I can look up recipes and add ingredients to my cart at the same time! The drivers are always so friendly and most of them ensure to pull out any meat or perishables and hand them to me so I can put them straight in my fridge. This is great because I don’t tend to unpack my bags immediately as I am usually in the middle of something important. Some of the drivers have trouble finding my apartment so it would be good to have the option to insert a picture to help them quickly know what to look for. I don’t think my Instacart Express membership is worth it as I still have to pay a service fee every delivery.

I’ve noticed there are others who notice that you are charged significantly more than you should be. Instacart is pocketing the extra money without necessarily telling you they are. Make sure to read the pricing policies for the store you’re ordering from. Instacart charges you a service fee, tax, and tip (which all makes perfect sense) but what they don’t just blatantly tell you is that they will also up-charge what a store is selling, and essentially charge you more for an item than you would have paid in-store. For example, I ordered from Safeway and my actual hard copy of the receipt listed $37.02 but my “Instacart total” was $43.22 (excluding tax $0.71/tip $2.16/fee $2.16), and with the fees included I was charged $48.25. If you did the math you’ll see I should have been charged approx $42.05. If you’re reading this and thinking “that makes no sense”, you are absolutely right, it doesn’t. Instacart pays the in-store price, and upcharges you their own price. When I reached out to instacart they informed me “the paper receipt should have been kept by the shopper”, they withhold the receipt “for their records”. But what you don’t see is that on the pricing policy they state: “in-store price of a particular item at the time a purchase is made, may differ from what is available through the instacart platform”. So keep in mind, you may be paying a lot more than should be, (aside from taxes, fees, and tip) had you just gone to the store. So if you are putting items in your cart because they are “on-sale” instacart does not get to take advantage of those sales, so you pay the regular price (even though you’re charged the sale price) instacart just keeps the difference without telling you! I have no problem paying service fees and a tip, my problem with the service is the fact that you actually pay way more than JUST service fees and tip, they just don’t tell you this and hide it in the pricing policy, and tell their drivers to make sure they don’t give you the hard copy of your receipt. A little scammy in my opinion, and probably cheaper just to order my groceries through Postmates or Door Dash since I will just pay the in-store price + tip and service fee.

I was ready to sign up thinking the monthly fee would cover any expenses for using this service. But no, you still pay 5% per order for ‘service fee’ which is said to cover insurance and background checks. Why? That should be included with the monthly fee. I am happy to tip my shopper, but if you are charging per month, claiming no delivery fee, that should be it. No other charges other than tip. For that matter I cannot sign up.

I love this app. I am partially disabled and grocery delivery is literally my life line. The app is great! I give it 5 stars, 2 thumps and all that jazz. What I find disturbing and severely dislike is that no matter what you are charged an extra $20.00 on top of your bill that you hopefully get refunded in 7 days. This is a huge problem for people on a strict budget and/or on disability income. This needs to go!!! This is a huge obstacle for CustomersOnlineSupport, and makes me not want to recommend the app to others. So far, Instacart owes me $40.00.

customers are paying $.40 per item that goes to the shopper and then an additional fee per item that goes directly to Instacart plus almost 4 dollar fee per order plus tips going to the shoppers plus a fee to Instacart (it’s not clear the exact amount and I only realized the price differences when I searched the grocery store app for a specific item and realized the price increase. Any discounts or in-store coupons are not passed on to the customers. Those savings go directly to Instacart instead. Customers receive a receipt electronically sent from Instacart instead of the store copy. I don’t begrudge paying the shoppers but the pricing structure is a bit murky. Instacart charges what is in their system even if there is an error. This policy means if the item shows as $4/lb but the in store price is $0.99/lb, the customer is charged the $4/lb no matter what is charged at the register no hours are guaranteed for the shoppers and if they are not lucky enough to be able to pick up hours then they’re out of luck. If the shoppers do get hours, they’re still not guaranteed any orders and if they’re able to get orders they are not guaranteed any money beyond the $.40 per item and roughly 4 dollar delivery fee. Most orders will take over an hour to pick them up. The average hourly wage is anywhere between zero dollars and $12 (in the rare occasion) an hour plus gas and wear and tear on the vehicle. They have hired way too many shoppers. the system is set up so they can make sure they have enough shoppers if needed and it’s basically not their concern if shoppers get hours. When questioned how they are able to keep employees, their response was if shoppers quit then that just means the other shoppers will have a better chance of being able to pick up hours and there are plenty of shoppers waiting in queue. If the repeat, non-tipping customers are bypassed, it would generate a reliability report and after five reports, that shopper is gone. Imagine shopping for customers for 1 to 2 hours, hauling the purchase up multiple flights of stairs, multiple times and ending up averaging $5/hr. Just not worth it.

I use this app most of the time, I’m a single mom so when I go out and do my own shopping it is kinda difficult for me to carry all my bags up to my apartment while holding my infant. I’ve only had one bad shopper, she forgot one of my items. But I gave it another shot after that shopper and have had a good experience over all and they bring my bags and water bottle packs all up to my apartment.
Waxx504's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/27/18 2:28 PM
When I first started to use the app I was quite pleased. It was easy enough to use, it was well thought out and the pricing seemed fair... UNTIL, I discovered they charge 10% more for your groceries then the store they are purchased from. I discovered this when the Instacart delivery person accidentally left the grocery store receipt in one of my bags. When I confronted Instacart about this, they apologized, no for basically stealing from me, but for their driver leaving the receipt in my bag which they are not supposed to do. I see why they’re not supposed to do it, because then everyone who uses this advice would see they are being ripped off for 10% of their grocery bill every time they use Instacart. Think about what they’re asking. A delivery fee, a service fee, a tip for the driver and then 10% of your grocery costs. It would be more honest if they had a 15% service fee, because that is what you are actually paying every single time. It’s a scam... use a different app that is upfront about their charges. As for me, I will never use this app again

Nomad Chic's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/27/18 12:40 AM
I like the idea of this and use it only in a pinch. It started off great but the fees keep getting higher. Once a $9.99 delivery fee is now $11.99 + a $2 service fee and a driver tip! $16+ dollars and I don’t even have any products yet. Costco also upcharges their products significantly. Convenience comes with a cost but this has gotten crazy.

This service is ridiculous. The shopper replaced two items without contacting me at all. Who does that?? You’ve wasted my money. With Shipt and other services they contact you first to make sure it’s okay. The service fee is ridiculous and so is the whole process. You charge so much in fees and this is why people are hesitant to tip.
Sunshine5757's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/27/18 12:02 AM
I’ve used this service/app for 2 months or so. Like others have said, you still have to be able to check your phone and chat with the shopper. The shoppers are killing this business imo. They seem focused on being fast rather than accurate. I always choose the 5 hour delivery window so there’s really no need to rush my order. The shoppers obviously don’t look very hard and are quick to “replace” items and mark them as out of stock when they aren’t. I’ve verified this by calling the store or just going myself (which defeats the entire purpose of the service). Once, a shopper went to the deli counter and bought the completely wrong meat somehow and apparently never realized because it wasn’t marked as a replacement. I was issued a refund but again, I had to go to the store for a replacement. This is a great idea but poorly executed. Once I verified that a replaced item was in stock I tried to call customer service so they could have if fixed before the delivery occurred over an hour later and they simply couldn’t figure it out. The 24/7 help line seems to be filled with people who have little to no training and zero ability to actually help.

My last 3 orders were horrible. One shopper never delivered my items then instacart promised me 2 free deliveries and gave me one. My last order was wrong again, I got diet ginger ale instead of regular and half of my grapes were missing out of the bag, so he ate or stole my grapes.
jjholley8's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/26/18 9:24 PM
The app itself works great; however, the business model and the way in which they advertise the Express Delivery / Annual Membership is very misleading. They advertise Free deliveries on orders of $35 or more for a 1 Year Membership. However, there is a “service” fee for each delivery. This can be as much as $5-$7 per delivery. This is different from and incremental to the tips for the shoppers / drivers. I understand the tips. Adding to the confusion, this Service Fee used to be optional. It’s now required. Again, great app, but the business itself comes across as misleading and dishonest.

Third time in a row I’ve had shoppers that replace items that I know are there they just don’t want to look for them and ignore when I say no to the replacement. This is a horrible service
mrsclairewhill's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/26/18 6:30 PM
I really wish they had more bagging options. I know the availability depends on the stores, but there should be a place where you can opt for paper bags. And an option to recycle old bags - driver dropping off order could pick up bags from previous orders and return to the stores to reuse/recycle.
Geener2's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/26/18 4:23 AM
I agree this is handy when in a pinch but just know you are paying a hefty price! My shopper accidentally left my store receipt in a bag. I paid an up charge of $20 more than the actual cost of the groceries!! PLUS the steep delivery fee PLUS a tip for the shopper. I emailed to complain and was told the store had a pricing policy “some stores charge more than the price in the store”. If that’s the case who pocketed the difference? Obviously my shopper paid what was on the receipt. The order before that I was charged for items I didn’t receive and was told they couldn’t refund but could give me a credit on my next order. So beware! It’s convenient but you pay thru the nose for it.

I ordered online last night and got the order today at 1:00 p.m. very easy to use and convenient because I don’t have a car right now. The shopper kept texting me and asking if I wanted a replacement item if there was not any items not in stock. Also allows you to get a refund or replace item with something similar. Bill was $165 for 30 items but what a time saver. They were out of 5/30 so I replaced a few and received a refund for a few. Just be prepared to choose another item if they don’t have it and I do also miss the BOGO so bad!!!!!

I really... like working for Instacart!!... It’s good money. Can you offer a “just delivery role.” I’m personally not as fast at finding items in markets, and rather just do deliveries. I think you should offer just 2 roles. Only In-store workers and only Delivery workers. In-store workers can take their times and pick out good quality food, plus they would learn the layout of the market and be able to find stuff faster. Where as..if you do both, you seemed rushed, it take longer to find stuff & you might not pick out good quality items, because you trying to meet your time limit. I’m sure others feel the same way. Also parking in center city of Philadelphia is extremely hard to fine, and double parking is not allowed! *Can you please ask costumers who live in apartments or dorms to meet in their lobbies, or our cars??* (only center city) This is to avoid drivers from getting a $75-$80 ticket for double Parking, from taking 6 bags, and 3 cases of water to the 7th floor. Thanks

I used instacart once and after done by more research found that I may have paid 20-30% more on my groceries! They charge a 5% service fee plus up charge sometimes 50% more on the in store prices! Plus tax, delivery fee and tip! Plus I read that all these service fees and up charges don’t even go to the shopper! Way too expensive! I’d much rather use a service that charges a flat rate and is upfront with their costs.

This app is so terrible. It never works correctly, your drivers will be late, not deliver what they are supposed to, and if they do, it’s usually sub par quality. Then when you want to rate the service, even that part of the app doesn’t work. Don’t waste your time!!!!!
Smathis993's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/25/18 12:56 AM
I have been using this service for about six months. I clearly understand that some shoppers are better at choosing lettuce, etc. What I don’t understand, at all, is how a shopper would think that I picked 8 BOGO items and didn’t expect to get them! In the past, I thought it was miscommunication but now I have clearly marked get BOGOs on all qualifying products. Fine, if you want a $5 tip on a $250 Order instead of $20 or $30, just keep neglecting my BOGOs. I will deduct every dime I lose by your negligence. People shop at Publix for the BOGOs!

After an experience with instant cart and the customer service team I have learned they are not for me. If you bread is smashed it is your fault for using their service. As I was blamed for not talking to my driver when I have chat logs of me trying to contact him 6 times. Then when I said I wasn’t thrilled the bread was smashed up. I was told to go to the store myself. Don’t waste your money. Safeway has its own delivery that isn’t 25% marked up and with high fees. Don’t waste time nor money with this service. There is a reason they aren’t highly recognized.

Thank goodness I did get paid otherwise I would have overdrawn my account.

In addition to the app, there are “service” charges for each order. These don’t show up at checkout, only on the final receipt. This app has lost all credibility to me. “During checkout, we suggest a default tip of 5% on every order. Customers can choose to modify this amount during checkout or up to 3 days after the order is complete. We’ve also lowered the service fee to 5% (7.5% in Canada and NYC) from the previous 10% service fee. The service fee is not waivable by customers.”
melcer's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/23/18 1:26 AM
No hassle, the customer is always right, attitude, that this company has is the only reason I give them a 5 star review and honestly the only reason I continue to use it. But you pay for that service, not once, but twice. You pay a hefty yearly fee and then 5 percent on each order. I don’t feel like they vet their personal shoppers well and you never know the type of person that’s going to show up at your door, which doesn’t always leave you with the best feeling when your alone when your order arrives.

The challenge is that once you submit your order cannot add to the cart even if they have not started shopping. Also it would be good if they have a section where you can request the ripeness off fruit and vegetables. Training on how to handle fruited and vegetables as they are often delivered bruised.

Cmon! Search engine for the website or the app is absolutely atrocious. For example, type in red wine vinegar. About 800 things pop up with the word red in it, but yet I still cannot find red wine vinegar. Type in Apple cider vinegar, same horrible issue. Extremely extremely frustrating. The scanner on the app, never works as well. Please fix your search engine as it is extremely frustrating and makes the experience pretty bad. I have transferred over from Instacart, and their platform is 10 times better! If I type in Apple cider vinegar, guess what pops up, apple cider vinegar! The service is fantastic in the shoppers are awesome, but none of that really matters when your platform is terrible. Please fix your search engine. I could go on with hundreds of examples of items that simply do not pop up when you type in a specific item. PLEASE FIX ASAP. I DONT WANNA GO BACK TO INSTACART!!!!

If you had TIME, wouldn’t you want to chose your own food? I know I would, but sometimes it’s more convenient to have it delivered. That doesn’t mean that I have plenty of time to sit around and wait. I was excited to think I could order and the items, mostly heavy things like soda and water, would be delivered to me during a one hour window, a specific one hour window. So I planned to be home but busy. I SAVED THE TIME I would have spent going to the store. NO WAIT! That is what my shopper texted me. If you are going to be home all day long or are desperate, that is okay. But if time is the reason you are doing this DON’t.

I am so done with this service. If you place an order after 5pm, its VERY UNRELIABLE that someone will fill your order for you. Pretty much have to cross your fingers that you dont see your order rescheduled for the following day on the app. Because THERES NO NOTIFICATION THAT GETS SENT TO YOU LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THE ORDER WAS RESCHEDULED. I placed an order, and even CALLED them to confirm that the order would be assigned and filled. She confirmed that someone was assigned to it and will be delivered between 10-11pm. Like an hour later, NO ONE WAS ASSIGNED AND IT HAD A NEW DELIVERY TIME OF 11:30pm. SO DONE. NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY YOU PAY FOR DELIVERY.

Tone Ladyfish's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/21/18 10:31 PM
As someone dealing with disabilities, surgeries, AND small children, I truly enjoy not having to actually GO to the store to get my shopping done. It takes a fraction of the time sanity & energy that physically shopping does. There are some things I do not enjoy, however. The biggest thing that makes me unhappy is the service fee I am charged each time I make a purchase... wasn’t that why I paid $149 for the year? So I wouldn’t have to pay a fee each time? I do not recall this being represented in the Ts & Cs at the time of signing. Nor do I recall the bit about the “optional” tipping which feels about as optional as tipping at a restaurant: I.e. absolutely obligatory. I feel like I’m robbing the harried shoppers if I do not tip well, as they obviously work tremendously hard for those tips. But I did not plan for tips AND service fees in my family grocery budget. So on top of the cost of my groceries, I’m compelled to pay a further 10% of the cost of my groceries for something I understood I had already paid for. Instacart is really NOT the deal it’s represented as. That being said, I keep trying to convince myself I didn’t waste my family’s money because I absolutely hate that. I try to tell myself that I am saving gas (I think every service affiliated store is within a 2 mile radius of my home, with 2 stores just around the corner, so that’s pretty thin), I’m not spending so much on impulse buys (that one’s actually true, though I find I do shop MORE OFTEN now), and I am,most importantly, minimizing the wear & tear on my body (grocery shopping takes me at least 2 days to recover from, meanwhile life, homework & sports pause for no mom) & my sanity. I do like the service, though the inventory can be WAY off & many buyers have no idea how to pick ripe fruit & I'm too sympathetic to stiff anyone their tip, because tips usually represent a significant chunk of a server’s income. I’d happily stiff Instacart their fee, as I feel it’s a racket since I already paid them a fee. Also, why is their overhead my problem EVERY TIME I Shop? Seriously? Background checks need to cost me 5% of my grocery budget EVERY time??? Hogwash. All this does is ensure that once this year is up, if this nonsense doesn’t change, I’ll go with a different service. These kinds of actions trash customer/business relations & goodwill and are the OPPOSITE of customer service. The service is relatively new, so for me, they have about 6 months max to figure these bugs out, drop those additional fees, & pay/ incentivize their people THEMSELVES, as well as offer some actual training & fix their inventory interface. Dear Instacart, please recognize that you need to keep your up-front fees low initially as you take over more of the market, & stop bilking your customers at every turn—IF you want to own all the market share & keep your customers happy, that is. We’re not dumb & it just makes us mad. THEN, if you have to, incrementally increase the initial cost each year. Observe Amazon’s Prime & Netflix’s membership programs. We all watched them take over & we’re all content with the status quo. Observe how MoviePass tried & failed to do the same thing but didn’t count the costs first, couldn’t sustain it, & ended up jerking their members around so much, they’ll likely be out of business in a year unless they really fix things fast. Don’t be them. Fix your business model, & make your customers happy. You have a great product, but that’s not enough to succeed.

Pennylain36's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/20/18 8:28 PM
I downloaded this app and used their service twice last year. I was dissatisfied with the quality of their service as each time the fruit that was selected and delivered to my home WAS MOLDY straight from the store. I complained, my complaints really weren’t handled to a manner which I was satisfied and decided that I wouldnt do business with them anymore. Fast forward to a YEAR since I have contacted them, used their service or even opened the app and they have decided to sign me up WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION for an “express service” that costs $150. I was NOT NOTIFIED nor did I consent to be enrolled in this service. I have sent them emails and even tried calling, and I have not been able to reach ANYONE at this company. After doing some online searches I am finding that they have been “automatically” enrolling people who have an active credit or debit card on file with them into this subscription service without their consent or OK. It seems to be a common practice for them as does not answering customer calls or emails. I would avoid this company AT ALL COSTS. I would give ZERO STARS if that were an option.

I’ve ordered from Instacart 20+ times and never had a hiccup. I finally decided to take the leap and upgrade to the paid version, Instacart Express, due to my frequency. Every time a driver knocks and cannot reach me, they comment in the chat and call me (not to mention my dog barks anytime someone is near). This driver did neither. Also worth noting, my place is tiny and I’m practically sitting by the door writing this, just as I was when this driver notified Instacart - “Order Delivered.” According to customer service, “he knocked and left them at the door.” $200 worth of groceries. Suspect.

So they redeemed my coupons at Wegmans and made them unusable for me in the future, buy they didn't apply the savings to my order. Why ask for my store card info? Who just benefited from my discounts that were redeemed, but not applied to my cart? Now I can't get my savings next time I go to the store myself. I informed their customer service and they just kept sending me their policy around not accepting all store discounts. I want to know if they kept my coupon savings for themselves...kind of shady.

I got a full year price once my trial had run out and decided to just continue using this platform. However, it seems like I am never satisfied with how my order is filled. Even being on top of responding to changes, I don’t always get the ones I request or the replacement item is much more expensive or I don’t get anything at all! I’ve had orders late, sometimes days late, which makes me wonder why I bothered in the first place. At this point, I only use it on busy weeks and it just adds to my frustration. I won’t be continuing past my paid year and will be looking elsewhere for future delivery options. Even paying more would be worth getting what I paid for.

rgpnyc615's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/19/18 6:46 PM
Love this idea but it always lets me down when I need it most! So convenient in NYC but my meal planning depends on the shopper and their interest in getting the order right. The replacements are always off - not the same item or brand level, etc. you can live chat the shopper but they may not answer. Many times I’ve reached out to instacart after not getting a response from my shopper and it usually is met with a $5 credit towards a future purchase. 9/10 times I have to make a trip to the store after because of something being left behind (and yes, it’s at the store when I get there). Instacart has its perks but is not as reliable or accurate as fresh direct.

Thanks to your shopper’s deception and your so called “Happiness Team” agent’s unwillingness to resolve, I was charged for items I did NOT receive. Do you really think I am just going to hand over my hard earned $ without receiving the product(s) or services? Up until this point I WAS a loyal, long term customer. Obviously this shopper and Instacart representative’s deception is more valuable to your company’s reputation (Dishonesty?) than being honest and keeping long term business. Now I will have to go through my bank to reject the transaction and resolve. Class act Instacart!

I was promised credit and wasn’t given it. I asked if Airbnb promised two nights and then went back on their word would that be ok. She said that’s like comparing apples to oranges. I told her lying was never ok. I then asked if I can be transferred to another agent. She said no and then laughed. I proceeded to say thanks bye then hang up. Totally not an ok way to run a business. She is apparently a corporate agent.

I have a disability and it’s a real effort to go to the grocery store. I find the delivery people very nice. I do try to go into the store for meat because I’m kind of picky about that. I don’t mind paying the driver tip but I resent paying their service fee. You wind up paying the service fee, delivery fee, tip, and tax. It seems like the delivery fee should cover their incidental costs like insurance, customer support, etc. it feels like they are double billing and just piling on fees. I generally like the service and for someone like me who has trouble getting into the store, it’s a welcome service.

I have had nothing but trouble lately with Instacart. I select a delivery time and they come early, I’m not home that is why select the time I do. Also the shopper didn’t put in one of my items and I was never reimbursed for it. This last order their last chance to try they did not give me the right item and for my recipe I need more of the dark meat and didn’t not get it.Very bummed and disappointed I will stick with Amazon

Correct how the service fee adds automatically even for members. It cannot be removed after the order is placed. Sneaky!
tiahe's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/18/18 11:46 PM
You are better off going to the store yourself than hoping to save any time using this app. Most of the shoppers have no common sense in replacing items, they do not put any efforts in finding what you ordered and the delivery service is bad. It happened to me multiple times that after using this service I had to go to the store myself after being delivered because some items were sold out according to the shopper but when I got the store they had them...

I live in the city and if you know my pain, you know how I have to plan time around my shopping. Grocery delivery?! Yes please! I no longer have to circle around for parking, lug my groceries up those San Francisco hills, and walk up my elevator less apartment building. Honestly, what got me to sign up no questions asked was that Costco was a part of this deal. Yea.. Costco lines can ruin a weekend. If only trader joes can be added! EDIT: I am beyond livid at this point. 3 times total your shoppers have had “car troubles.” Each time instead of them calling you to fix it, I’d have to call myself to fix the situation to have the order rescheduled because they marked it as “delivered,” Which takes 30-45minutes of my time to fix something that your employees should have been proactive about. They took the lazy way out, marked it as delivered for the customer to deal with. Today a shopper had such car troubles. I had to call and reschedule. First call: I asked the rep helping me to ensure I don’t get double charged for service/tip fees for both the initial “delivery” and the rescheduled order because with the past two times this happened I saw charges on my credit card that I had to call and dispute. You know, why would you pay a service fee for a service you didn’t get. I checked my app a half hour after I got off phone to double check if the order was correct. Instead of doing that, the first rep cancelled the redelivery. Second Call: I then had to call again, was put on hold for 30 minutes and re-explain what happened. When you’re frustrated already, the last thing you want to do is repeat the whole ordeal because you literally explained it a half hour prior. He re-scheduled delivery again. An hour later I check on my app to see what was going on with the progress of my order. Loe and behold the SAME SHOPPER that shopped for my initial order that had CAR TROUBLES accepted the order again!!! Of course she then AGAIN claimed she delivered it which of course it was not received. 3rd call: I’ve had it already. I keep giving you guys chances. You hire people that don’t care for customers. I asked for a refund and am NEVER using you again. I don’t complain much. I have loads of patience. This is just ridiculous.

Some things can be up to $3 more but the convenience of really only getting what you need and not getting those extra cookies, that special spice for that one recipe you think you may go someday. Plus you can avoid the stress of getting all kids in the car thru the parking lot, fit over “no you can’t get a giant bag of Cheetos”....... It’s so worth it!

LCarey's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/17/18 3:31 PM
This service has potential, but the developers have several kinks to work out before I feel I can rely on this to replace regular grocery shopping. First, you are only really saving the travel time to and from the store since you have to monitor the app while the shopping is in progress to approve and deny changes, chat with the shopper, etc... The shoppers are a mixed bag and are randomly assigned. It would be great if down the line you could choose a shopper you like and they could get to know your preferences. Maybe even a tipping option for the shopper to incentivize them taking care with your items. As it is there have been problems with eggs being broken and bread being squished because of poor packing, and just general mistakes. You can get a refund, but you’re still out your staples until the next shop or you can run out yourself. And if it happens with the same item multiple times in a row it’s frustrating. It also begs the question how much time are you saving? The app itself is seriously glitchy. Items will say out of stock when they are not and vice versa. In my latest order my shopper replaced two of my chosen items with items that were supposedly out of stock. The app is also frequently a minute or so behind real time, if the last item shopped is replaced or refunded you’ll never be given the opportunity to approve or ask for a replacement. The shopper closes the order and that’s it. As far as the delivery, several times it has been well outside the requested hour range, both early and late. I’ve been lucky that myself or my husband have been home, but because of this I won’t use it unless I’m home for at least a three hour window around the delivery time. Again this impacts the ‘convenience’ factor of this service. As of now I only use this service for the specialty items I can only get from Whole Foods which is too far away to be convenient. Other than that I shop locally. If the service improves these issues I’ll consider using it more.
Maheeja's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/17/18 2:55 PM
Overall I like the app, it remembers the previous items I shopped and suggests. What I don’t like, when I view the final shopping cart, if I click into an item to add instructions and click done it takes me back to the top off the page. Now I’m forced to scroll all the way down to where I was previously. If I have a couple of items that’s fine but with a big list it’s annoying. Also it would be nice if I can add instructions to my grocery list as a whole instead of each individual item. Even having the option of saying don’t replace any items in the cart would make it easier to check out.

I just set up Instacart two days ago. This morning, I am disturbed by stray noises coming from my phone. It was an Instacart marketing notification. Not cool sending alerts to my phone at 6am. Notifications are now off until the app lets me control what time I allow them to happen. I guess I’ll manually manage my Instacart notifications. That’s an abuse of my trust, Instacart. Shame on you.
hmo2fl's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/16/18 1:54 AM
This company/app is good about 10% of the time... the other 90% they are total crap. Half the time my order never shows up and just gets cancelled with NO notice and the other half they can’t find the items you order and just mark it out of stock. So to sum it up- if you can deal with a 10% reliability rate then by all means, sign up.
Jim197423786's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/16/18 1:14 AM
They continually (for months and months and months) falsely advertise the availability of the same specialty items, but they always always always swap out 80% of them for generic/mass alternatives I never would have ordered, forcing me to sit at home and wait for receipt of items I don’t even want. If they are unable to fill 80% of the order, you ought to be able to cancel the order rather than sit around waiting to receive $200 of low grade junk you don’t even want.
kikilicious524's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/16/18 12:40 AM
While a great idea, unfortunately for apartment/condo dwellers, their business model does not hold up well with orders larger than 2-3 bags. The shoppers/delivery drivers are expected to drop off at your front door, but they have refused to do so multiple times now citing it’s too many items to use an elevator in, or citing they don’t own a cart. Instacart confirmed drivers are expected to own carts. One driver even brought her daughter in the car while on the job. Of course she couldn’t leave her in the car, so the driver wanted to leave my groceries on the street, in front of a 4 story apartment building with an elevator. Just a disappointment of what could have been a great business model.

SongKite's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/16/18 11:46 PM
I regret the $149 annual membership. In addition to that there’s a ‘service fee’ which is a percentage of the order. Replacements are very poor (they grant you the $ credit on occasion but I’d really rather have the item) . Delivery to your door is apparently only if the driver finds parking!

I recently used Instacart and after checking out online they said my total was $174, when my shopper arrived, she had left the receipt in my bag (which according to others, they have never gotten a physical receipt) my total bill was actually only $134. I gave Instacart a week to complete the refund and nothing happend, so I called. The girl kindly informed me of their “pricing policy” stating that their prices are different than my local store. SO! BUYER BEWARE! You are definitely paying more than your simple service fee and driver tip!

We started using Instacart in Portland, OR when they first came to the city. Amazon Prime is okay but they frequently just canceled out of stocks instead of offering replacements and a few times my entire order was canceled. It's incredibly rare that I don't hear something from my shopper if my order is going to change. It's a much more personalized experience. Now that we're doing a lot of RV Traveling, it's really nice to be able to get a few things delivered to our motorhome. We love it!

My last order totaled $62. The shopper “mistakenly” left the receipt in the bag and I noticed that my grocery total was only $36. Safeway was having a sale on a few items. Instacart will not pass those saving onto you. Instead they keep it for themselves. This is not acceptable. I emailed their customer support and they basically stated that the shopper is to retain the paper receipt and they will NOT honor in store pricing. I requested a refund of the overcharged priced and the $150 for the yearly membership. I will update as the process goes on. I suspect I will have to file a dispute with my CC company.

I love the concept. Having an extra help when you can not make it to the grocery store yourself. However, Shoppers should be using reusable bags or find a way to delivery items in a way to avoid using plastic bags/bag charge. I don't use plastic when shopping so I had to choose paper bag for my first order.

As someone who lives on the second floor of an apartment building, and who is partially handicapped, Instacart has been a lifesaver. They were three hours late for my delivery. When I tried to cancel the order, the link conveniently did not work. She showed up three hours late and after 10:30 at night. We were in bed, and when I asked to speak with someone in customer service, I was told that I can’t call them, they would email me in 3-5 business days. They were extremely rude on the phone. I felt sorry for the delivery woman. Would never recommend. Use Peapod- they are more reliable and actually speak with their customers.

First time I ordered, I never got my groceries. The poor person shopping for them ended up being pulled over by the police and taken to jail. I only got groceries that day about five hours after they were supposed to arrive because I called and complained but instacart said they didn’t care, it was only my persistence that made it happen that day. Second time I ordered my shopper quit half way through and they had to find someone else. They did actually find someone else this time so maybe their service is improving. Only use if you have up to five hours to wait for your groceries and don’t mind half your items being not available or subbed.

Today I tried Instacart for the first time and it will be my last. My groceries were marked delivered but had never arrived. I called customer service and was told to check outside to see if they left my food outside. I was then told they could not reach the driver and they couldn’t issue my refund as the card hasn’t been charged so I would have to call back. The food finally arrived and my lunch meat and fruit was warm. I called customer service again and they told me that sometimes the app glitches on the drivers so they do not see special note/instructions (which I left) and that orders are marked as delivered when they are in fact not. Seems like a poor system of communication and a poorer system of customer service.

My instacart representative left the receipt in the bag and I saw that the food total was different than on what instacart charged for the food. They also used their own reward card. So I did not get my gas points. The delivery person was great - but I question the integrity of the company.
AMBMCB's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/11/18 6:18 PM
Dishonest subscription pricing. I pay an annual fee of $149 for unlimited deliveries. A 5% service fee is added to every order. I used to be able to waive the fee (which on average runs $15 for me). They have taken that option away. With the service fee and the shopper/ driver tip, I spend an average of $30 more a week on groceries, not including the higher prices charged by the grocery store for using Instacart. I hate grocery shopping and accepted the higher price charged by the store, the annual membership and the driver tip, but now I have to pay a service fee for every order! What does the subscription fee cover? When I physically shop at Publix, I see Publix employees doing the shopping for Instacart, again, why the fee? Looks like I’ll be checking out Shipt, Prime Pantry or Walmart’s online free pick up option, or just have to start shopping again ☹️

Yesterday, I ordered online by this app(from Costco ). Today, I received them, and I receive the receipt for my shopping. The receipt is $158.38. However, my online shopping receipt is $198.95. It means I received my items $40.57 more expensive than the store. It was very very disappointing.
MaijaMommy's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/11/18 5:44 PM
App is great! Most items have photos. App tags what you've previously bought so you can find it again quickly. Replacement option is great, even letting you decline me a replacement. My only complaint is that the quality of the fresh fruit selected is hit or miss even with a comment to the shopper.
kaitlinp317's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/11/18 5:17 AM
Do not use this app. Go directly from Safeway or other stores. I loved this app at first then realized they were doubling the prices for things they could like meat products and making me pay so much more. I am a single mom working my butt off with a newborn at home just trying to stay afloat here and thought instacart was a great solution. They completely ripped me off and charged me so much more then what I would actually spend in a store- little more I could deal with but DOUBLE is ridiculous. I don’t have money to be throwing away and I’m disappointed with their service. Half of the time I don’t get products I even wanted because the shoppers replace the items with random things instead of refunding it so I don’t waste money on things I won’t use.

Incredibly easy. Love the convenience. You've got to try this. I found out about it when someone showed up with groceries my teenage daughter ordered. I thought she had used favor or Uber, but she turned me on to Instacart. It took no time at all to set up, and ordering was super easy. I’d rather get poked in the eye with a sharp stick rather than go to the grocery store, so this is amazing lol.

I’ve been using Instacart for 6 months or so, and I like. Don’t love it, but I’m gonna keep using it. Because of the first item on my pro list. And that’s really what it all comes down to for me. Pros: Saves me a TON of time— I’m a mom who works 30 hours a week from home and is constantly driving someone to some practice or meet or lesson. My time is my rarest natural resource, so things that help me conserve THAT are worth paying for. Let’s me shop multiple stores easily— I regularly hit up Publix, Costco, and Whole Foods. Fueling high school athletes is no joke. Conserves my energy— I’ve been a rheumatology patient since I was 8, several different diagnoses, but always something. There are days when I have to be very selective about where my energy goes. This service is amazing for this aspect of my life. Cons: 100% shopper dependent— Get a good shopper, it’s like having your mom go for you. Get someone who’s work ethic is so bad they’ve been fired from every job they’ve ever had, and not only do you have a fridge full of rotten produce but they’re won’t stop talking about horrible bosses and leave your driveway. Really wish Instacart would add a Favorite Shopper feature & allow you to “star” 3-5 for each store. Then, it would try to match your orders with those shoppers first. This would incentivize all shoppers to be “good.” It ain’t cheap— The annual subscription fee of $150 is fine. I have no issues with that. The service fee can be waived at user discretion. Ok. I tip my shoppers commiserate with service, always a minimum of 5%. (Used to be 10%, before I spent 30 minutes with the dude in my driveway.) It’s the mark-ups on store prices that is galling. It’s not across the board. It’s not all the time. But it happens. I’d rather pay more annually.
Jamilya Dos's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/10/18 3:49 AM
I understand that every business needs to make revenue, but taking advantage of the customers is way too much. I have paid for express membership, then I paid service fee, then I paid tip, I paid for all the markups, but hey where have you seen a 10$ bottle fee? I ordered 5 bottles of water and paid 10$ extra for bottle fee, asked them to correct the charge, they refused to help and said case closed. In addition shoppers would lie and write that they bought 10 bottles instead of 5, so I ended up paying 85$ for 40$ purchase which btw includes bottle fee. Cancelled the service, do not recommend anyone, save yourself from disappointment.

Lexiebeth's Review of InstacartReviewed on 8/1/18 12:12 AM
I’m a college student without a car, so grocery shopping for me is a bit of a hassle. My options are either finding someone who can give me a ride or walking to the tiny overpriced grocery store on campus. I love being able to have my groceries delivered, and the $100 a year membership is well worth it to me. However, I have some complaints. 1. Sale prices aren’t always shown. I loved when Smiths worked with ClickList how we could see the prices of items on sale, but we don’t get that on this app. Sure there’s coupons where you can get a certain amount off if you buy so much of a brand you wouldn’t have bought otherwise (and since I’m just feeding myself, that’s just a waste), but the app itself doesn’t show when an item in particular is on sale. Why? It’s annoying for me to have to get off the app and get on the Smiths website to see if there are any sales I’d like, I’d love it if I could just see the sales right in the Instacart app as I’m shopping instead. 2. Even though they say you can edit the cart before shopping begins, it seems to be hit and miss on whether they’ll actually let you add to the cart or not, so you basically better triple check to make sure you didn’t forget anything before putting in your grocery order because if you forgot milk there’s about a 50% you’re SOL. 3. There needs to be an easy way to send in a complaint. I’ve had shoppers come AN HOUR before the delivery was scheduled and have to leave my groceries outside my front door because I was still in a class. If a customer scheduled for a certain time, that probably means they are most available at that certain time. Being too early is just as bad as being too late! On top of that I’ve had shoppers who have gotten the wrong item before, not marking it as a replacement or anything, and I of course don’t notice until after I start putting things away. If I ask for pulp free OJ and you bring me high pulp instead, that’s a problem. If I ask for almonds and you bring me cashews, that’s a problem! You have to be careful not to leave a rating until AFTER you check through everything because if you put in that shopper rating too soon and later realize they got something wrong Instacart doesn’t give you any way to change your feedback. Overall I’m grateful for being able to have my groceries delivered, but if another app came along that fixed the problems listed above I’d jump ship in a heartbeat.

She was a wonderful person. She really got everything I ordered. Almost $200 worth of groceries! Very understanding and considerate!

I have groceries delivered from Publix. The delivery person didn’t give me a receipt, I understand why now. I’ll check through some of the items in the items that were marked with a price, like the ground beef didn’t match up with what I was charged. Do not use this app.

This service is overpriced and my order was missing key items.

Great delivery service, however I had items from two stores that are not far apart and she delivered my groceries from one then took the other and came back. Very inconvenient for your drivers. In addition I have been informed you do not provide original paper receipts from the store which has turned me off from the service as I keep my receipts and cannot use the online version your provide. All in all okay if you really need someone to shop for you, but for the price and the issues above I will likely not be using again.

Please do not use Stephen at all! He is bad for customer service, kept complaining and asked me to do all of the lifting and complained that he did a lot. He was dumping my stuff in the hallway when I made very clear instructions not to do so. Please do not give him a tip and I am giving Instacart 0 stars because of him.

Only use it if you have no alternative. Instacart mark up the prices of every single item. Example: Total publix receipt: 57.93 Here is what instacart charged Publix receipt: 63.80 (mayor issue is with this one) Sales tax: 0.44 Service: 3.19 Tip:3.19 (perfectly fine with this one) I could verify it because, I'm guessing by mistake, got the original receipt from publix.

The cat escaped, so I made a mad dash to rescue her; she doesn’t know what’s best for her, so it did not go smoothly. Not surprisingly, I didn’t stop to grab my phone. I missed the Instacart delivery, they cancelled my order, and charged me a $15 fee that cannot be reversed for reasons not explained. Just go w Amazon. Honestly, Amazon has the resources to do Instacart’s job, but better.

I am a stay at home mom with three full of energy boys and this helped me so much the past two days. I did have to change some items to be replaced while I was trying to cook but I don’t mind. Plus it gives you an option to choose your replacement before ordering. I love this app. My husband also uses our vehicle 14 hours a day for work so I don’t have transportation and this really helped me. Best app! My husband also loves that I’m not running to the grocery store all the time.

I really enjoyed my first experience using Instacart. The delivery person Teresa was prompt, and very polite. And, price was reasonable. I will become a repeat customer.

I don’t have a car and have to walk to pick up anything from the store. Instacart allows me to order from my favorite store and have it delivered. Every delivery person has been wonderful.
