I love this system for budgeting using the envelope method. So far I’ve experienced no bugs and it’s doing exactly what I need and what I anticipated needing. Big things for me: - auto fund envelopes via a profile for when I get paid - download transactions from my bank and give me a convenient way to apply those to an envelope - let me view my envelope balances quickly. Great job Mvelopes! Thank you!

Got all my lines funded and had to swap over to my calculator. When I came back to the app, it briefly asked for my PIN before crashing repeatedly. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. When I opened it, all of my work had been lost. I continued to work with the app, closed it again, then attempted to reopen it and had the same issue. There are other options for financial planning, I think I’ll go with one of those.

NarcNarwal's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 9/16/18 1:58 PM
I tried to download the app as I’m looking for an alternative to Boodbudget but I can’t get past the subscription step. I authorize the subscription, says I’m subscribed, but then gives me a “receipt ID not valid for user”. And I know it’s not my iTunes account because I just now subscribed to something else. I’ll be happy to rectify this review rating but help me get access to this app.

Mvelopes used to be great but they seem to have given up on maintaining account sync. Now it’s pretty much useless.
meru808's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 8/5/18 5:55 AM
So apparently their mobile app and web app are two different subscriptions. Customer support kept telling me to log on to the web app or via live chat on certain hours. Their web app is now broken and I can’t even log on to my account to cancel that subscription. When I go the live chat route, it kept getting disconnected. So my subscription is still active with no reasonable way of cancelling it.

Dear Mvelopes, I have been faithfully yours for more than a decade now – since you were only a Windows desktop application and long before Finicity bought you. But over the years your sad and tired Flash interface has lost its luster. For a time, the new iOS apps re-ignited that spark. But after you broke my budget this week with an accounts module that no longer connects to my bank, I realized we had drifted apart. Your customer support rep was friendly and did her best, but after a week has passed with still no ability to connect to my bank accounts, I think it’s time that we go on living separate lives. It’s not me; it’s you. YNAB is young, sleek, and incredibly simple. That’s where you’ll find me if you ever publish your HTML app and fix the accounts connection.
Monitoring mom's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 8/28/18 3:20 PM
I’ve only been using this app for a week now and it’s an eye-opener on how much you actually spend not just on bills, but on day to day expenses. My coaches have been a huge help so far in getting my finances under control and creating a budget to help my family live within our means. If you’re struggling financially, this app and its coaches are always willing to help! I have already recommended this app to a few family members and several co-workers. The whole concept is truly amazing. My only regret is not doing this sooner!

Other apps seem to be more budget-centric, but envelopes is simply envelope-centric. I like it that way!!
MDman10's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 7/6/18 5:25 PM
The update to the app is much more user friendly. I've been using Mvelopes for around 6 years and I can't say enough good things about it! The only suggestion that I would make is to configure the app to allow splitting transactions.
moonatomics's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 7/3/18 3:42 AM
I wanted to try out this app first and see if I liked it and was excited to see that it had a free trial period. But I downloaded the app and got an email at the end of today because I always get emails about purchases I make it the App Store and was charged the first month of $3.99 without getting my free trial period! I know it’s only $3.99 but still. If there’s a free trial I shouldn’t be getting charged until after that is expired. I am very unhappy now and do not feel comfortable using this app if it can’t even get its free trial transactions right. Why would I want to authorize and give them access to my bank account if they can’t even do that?! So upset!
RSXFANatic's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 7/29/18 11:30 PM

LeMirk002's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 7/20/18 1:37 AM
Horrible customer service. I downloaded the app, never used, and deleted. I unsubscribed but was charged anyway. Mvelopes told me that I was subscribed under 2 subscriptions with the same email address, so even though my iTunes account showed I was unsubscribed, I would continue to be charged. I am still trying to remedy the situation. After spending 30 minutes on the phone with Apple and iTunes today, I was assured that I am not subscribed, only to receive an email from Mvelopes this evening stating only ”We need to inform you that your subscription is still active with us.”
C. Phill's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 7/16/18 11:03 AM
This is my first negative review ever. I have never written reviews before, not even for amazon purchases which I use a lot. I’m so disappointed with mvelopes. I really wanted to like it since a close friend highly recommended it. I tried installing the app but it wouldn’t load onto the iTunes App Store. So I went to its website to create an account. I paid for the yearly subscriptions. But when I tried to login it says I cannot view the website without a particular program. This is ridiculous. I admit I’m not the most tech savvy but you’d think that they’d program it in such a way that iOS 11.4 users should be able to access the website on their phone easily. I have an iPhone 8plus. Later I found a way to install the app by searching for it on safari and that linked to the AppStore. I tried to login with the paid account I already created but that option is not available. It forces you to pay again which I did thinking that maybe it’ll recognize the same user and password. Nope. Anyway I was willing to try out the app since I can cancel the app subscription if I find it useful. As I tried to create the budget, it kept changing some of my edits because it wasn’t a zero budget yet since I am trying to tweak things based on the bills I already have. I did like that they had a suggested budget based on your income but I had to redo the same edits over and over again. After saving it, and going back and forth to my banking statements online, it keeps losing my edits. I have mint but was told that mvelopes is better. However, I find that it’s not half as intuitive as mint or smart as mint. I like that mvelopes has the option where you work with an advisor monthly and I would have been willing to pay for the higher monthly subscription. But after trying out the basics with all the complications I had to face, I’m definitely very frustrated and disappointed with this app. I read the other reviews that people keep getting charged even after cancelling on iTunes. I hope I don’t have to face this after all the silly kerfuffle! So frustrated.

I have been using Mvelopes for MANY years. They have worked a lot of the bugs out over the years. I read The Financially Confident Woman by Mary Hunt, and put her ideas to work in Mvelopes. It changed my financial life. It’s nice to set aside an amount each month for Christmas, real estate taxes, life insurance, etc., so that when those monthly or yearly bills come due, the money is already set aside! No worries. Being “in the black” and financially free feels so great! Mvelopes lets you see where you’re overspending, so you can make the necessary adjustments in your habits. Love it.

I’m torn. I can’t live without this darn app, but I find myself cursing it every week! As a user for years, there is nothing else like it out there. I just wish someone else would take it over that will actually improve it. They have been promising a non-flash version for years, hasn’t happened. Downloading transactions breaks every other week. It’s too bad these guys are in “coast” mode with this app just collecting fees. Sadly, it’s unreliability is forcing me to look for alternatives. Beware before you sign up. When it works, it’s awesome ... but it doesn’t last long!

Me and HMU husband loved this app. We used it for everything. Now it has problems. It doesn’t update what’s really in my account. It also isn’t showing recent transactions even days after transaction was made.
moka711's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 5/5/18 3:07 PM
This is the least intuitive budgeting app ever. The confusion between funding an envelope, setting a budget and the envelopes themselves is incredibly frustrating. I’ve used other budgeting technologies such as EveryDollar and Mint and none of them have ever been as counterintuitive as this one. Nothing makes sense as far as distributing money and the envelopes being carried over from month to month. Just completely done with this app.

I moved to Mac 10 years ago and have had a very hard time finding a replacement for Quicken. Every Mac version has been unusable for me. I used Moneywell for several years but it was always a little clunky. Recently they discontinued syncing effectively rendering the iOS app irrelevant. And then I found Mvelopes! I love the iOS apps (do have a few requests) and the web version is great (would be much cleaner in Html5) ... but I just found reports today and am thrilled! Everything I’ve needed to keep myself and my wife up to date all of the time. GREAT APP and financial tool!!

I’ve used this app for years. The free version was great, I rarely had any issues. Since they started charging for it, the quality has gone way down. I constantly receive error messages or must put in helpdesk requests. Very disappointed. I was on their website today and it’s pretty clear that the focus is on driving new business. They now have different levels…I would request that you work on making the product work before pushing for new business. I think the business needs to readdress it’s priorities.

Mvelopes is the best budgeting system out there. We have been using “budgeting” software for as long as it existed; this is the only system that allows you to forward-fund your monthly budget instead of just tracking your expenses as most budget software programs do. We couldn’t live without it - it keeps us living within our financial means, save some money for the future and STAY OUT OF DEBT!
Hungover Rover's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 4/16/18 4:30 AM
I was an avid use of YNAB until they abandoned their legacy customers in support of moving to a subscription based app. Slowly over time their “classic” app stopped being useful- full of bugs. Envelope style budgeting is the method that works best for me. I’m trying out several apps and Mvelopes is one of the top contenders. I had some issues with initial setup - setting up offline accounts and not having access to PCs with Flash. Setting up offline accounts like a Cash wallet is a feature missing from the mobile app, even though live tech support emailed the steps on how to do it on mobile - it’s just not there in the latest version of the app. Finally I was able to setup everything on a pc that had Flash. The website interface is a little hard to naviGate where everything is located. Also there is a disconnect design wise between the website and the mobile app
Blahblah37's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 4/14/18 12:44 PM
Nothing more than a slightly different approach than most other budget apps. They get you on the trial and then you pay the $4 / month. And like most subscription based products they count on most people not getting around to cancel it for a while. Then when you do go to cancel it they make it difficult enough where they'll get another month or few out of you, cause who has time to sit down for hour plus that it might take to cancel it. Their website says you can cancel it online for an online account or in the App Store for a mobile account. I see no way to cancel this in the App Store.

Forgot about free trial pend date and yes it is on me for forgetting to cancel. Well...apparently cancelling through them online on 1-30 and getting billed through April isn't their problem. Since...they has a disclosure buried in their website somewhere about how it is impossible to refund whether or not you cancelled your account online. Clearly...just another way to make a buck! Terrible business model for customers, just fine for them.
Ngr33n's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 3/22/18 2:11 AM
Usability and efficiency in this app are pretty underwhelming for something you’re supposed to use daily. Cumbersome workflows, an annoying proprietary keyboard, cryptic icons, and unintuitive syncing behavior make otherwise useful features into a bit of a chore at times. Oh, and they also try desperately to sell you all manner of financial counseling services and stuff like that, which is a bit of a nuisance, but bearable. I guess they mean well. The app has one extremely compelling feature, though: it automatically collects cash from envelopes to cover credit card transactions. We always have exactly enough cash in the credit card envelope to pay the credit card off immediately, so we can essentially use the card like cash, but build credit and earn rewards points. That’s really the only reason we keep using (and paying for) this app.
LoveMvelopes's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 3/22/18 12:37 PM
This program keeps me and my finances on track and organized. I studied a few options before I bought the lifetime service and this is by far one of the best options. They've upgraded a few times and it keeps getting easier to use. It does take a little getting used to at first but Stick with it - I really like the concept of having envelopes that help me plan for how I spend and save my money. I have seen their customer service take a bit of a dive. They promise 24 hour response time and that doesn't always happen. They are only available by chat (but not always at convenient times for the customer) or via email. Things are getting better - but they definitely need to be mindful that 24 hour response time is important especially since they promise it.
azbuck66's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 3/20/18 3:35 PM
I really could not get the hang of this app. I spent a couple hours with it and it made no sense. In some screens I had too much allotted in another screen not enough. I couldn’t figure out how to let the app know that I’d already paid bills for the month. Utterly confusing. Deleted it and canceled trial. I really need a budgeting app to get my spending under control, but this was way too complicated.
SarahYW7's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 3/2/18 1:41 AM

Kalila's's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 3/12/18 6:25 AM
Money placed in envelopes for future expenses instead of past expenses. Now I use my credit card for everything and pay my balance off every month. But it’s no big deal because I’ve already accounted for it. Four stars instead of five because it is not possible to create custom reports.

I started using this a couple of weeks ago, and I LOVE it. For about 20 years we used a pencil & paper virtual envelope system. For the last 10 years we used some software. I was looking for something that is web-based, integrated with my bank and credit accounts, and has a mobile app. This. Is. It. I love that I can enter transactions as they occur (and checks that we write) and the software makes it super easy to match them when posted. The time this is saving over our last system is well worth $4/month.
SweetVA's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 2/17/18 12:30 PM
UPDATE: Dear Mvelopes customer service: STOP TELLING ME TO CANCEL THROUGH ITUNES. I know how to cancel through iTunes. My 4 year old can cancel subscriptions through iTunes. You took my money through credit card online and REFUSE TO GIVE IT BACK. Figure out your business. Your online and app services obviously don’t work together. It’s 2018. They should. My new current budget software works beautifully together online and on my phone. Going to the BBB now. I want my money back and I’m tired of your runaround. This clunky app did not work for me. Went to cancel before my trial period was over and I still got charged. Company is giving me a runaround and I still haven’t gotten my money back. Not quite sure they know how to run a business. Save your time and money and DO NOT BUY INTO THIS APP.

Good system for managing money but the account integrations are horrible. It does not accurately pull my data. If I can’t trust the data, how can I use this as a management tool? The dev response is that customer support is available, which is technically true, but my ticket response times take well over 5 business days to get response. I have one outstanding ticket that has not been resolved in over a month. It seems like very time I need to get accurate data I need to submit a ticket, it doesn’t happen automatically.

I hate it. The envelope budgeting system is very simple, Mvelopes is not. It’s confusing to figure out and the only way to see the training videos is to pay more monthly. It doesn’t make sense. If I’m paying for Mvelopes why can’t I see videos on how to use Mvelopes? The importing of bank balances also didn’t work. Mvelopes said I had over $200 more in one account than I actually did. Once I canceled the subscription they kept billing me. I emailed them and was told they would not refund the money and if I wanted to cancel I’d have call them before 7pm between Monday and Friday. So what? I have to call while at work? I guess that’s how they make money on this garbage app. Make an app worth using and you don't need to con people out of their money.

So unfortunately it was a huge waste of time. I then redid my whole budget and everything on the app which took a long time and now I cannot even login it is saying I already have a subscription and then keeps asking me to buy it again. :-(. I have even deleted the app and reinstalled. Save your money

This app will be the only financial app in the U.S. that won’t accept a (787) Puerto Rico telephone area code. Allow me to explain to the developers that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, and its people are U.S. citizens by birth. I live in Washington State but I’m going to keep my area code since that’s the phone number I’ve been using for more than a decade. I don’t have this problem with Mint, and it’s free.

It's funny to say this, but Mvelopes changed my life. I've tried and looked at many other apps. But they are just not the same. Mvelopes is the absolute best envelope budgeting app on the market. Not only do I use it, but it also allows my wife to have it too (same subscription and account. I read some reviews about the price - but really? It's the best investment I make with my money. The only free options out there DON'T DO what Mvelopes does (cash management) and the other apps like Mint just use your information to sell you credit cards and other stuff that creates debt. I've also tried their coaching products which I think they call the Plus and the Complete. You get a financial coach who helps you put together a plan and then you meet over the phone each month to review your budget and goals. These are a little pricier, but again, it's an investment. And in our case, the money we saved using the app, and following the plan of our coach saved us sooooooo much more. She was simply amazing to talk to and really knew her stuff. I would recommend this service for anyone who feels a little stressed, intimidated or is struggling with their finances. Overall, I'm a HUGE MVELOPES fan!

I've used Mvelopes for 3 years and am a fan. However as soon as the company decided to start charging yearly and monthly rates, the production of the app has dramatically decreased. The app ran better when it was free! I am consistently dealing with bugs and glitches. When I called support, I was told to delete and re-download the app. I was told there was nothing to be done on there end, and they didn't think there were any problems. Based on the other comments here, I'm thinking there's a trend. Mvelopes, fix your app! Your charging customers for a product that does not work well at all.

jkilgore1's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 12/17/18 12:56 PM
I was recommended this app years ago by a trusted advisor and have come to absolutely love and live by this app for my financial needs. Unfortunately, I also love and live by certain sayings in my life as well, such as 'don't pay for something that's telling you they will save you money' and 'never pay for something you can get for free'. I received a few emails from Mvelopes encouraging me to trial the basic, I had no objections to doing so, until I read that the new company that just purchased them decided the best interest was move to a pay-only program. I've been a long time lover and user of this app and must say it has definitely made me change how I do my budget and spend my money, but I cannot justify paying at or over $40 annually when there are solutions such as Mint and PocketGuard that offer free versions. I thought then this new company bought them I would see improvements to this application and it's functions, but if improvements are coming I will not be able to see them. I cannot justify paying so much for a service that that is supposed to be saving money, but does not offer anything over some of it's free competitors.

Been using this app for only a few months, thankfully. It was okay as a free app. Not great. Definitely not worth the price points they've come up with for your mandatory upgrade. Bye, Felicia.

I love this app, it is hands down the best budgeting tool I've found. However, there is a bug that is preventing me from accessing my account that is taking weeks to resolve. I am currently holding out hope it will be fixed soon, otherwise I will have to look for an alternative. ETA response to developer question: I have been corresponding via email and chat with the developer for 3 weeks with no resolution. Giving it one more week.

We've used this app for many years now. It's been over a decade, in fact. And in that time, we've never carried over a credit card balance, never had any trouble meeting our financial commitments. It just works.

For years I managed my finances with succumbing to the confines of a budget system - decided to take the step and use the app - feeling freedom I wish I would have felt years ago.

I don't think I will subscribe but it was good while it lasted. The most annoying thing is that I can't save any progress on my budget unless it equals zero. I understand the concept but that means I have to do all my numbers in one sitting which is inconvenient.

I have been using mvelopes since 2015. For the last month I have not been able to sync my account and support has been "working" on the issue. I will start be charged for using mvelopes on 07/26 but I can't even use it! The concept is great and when it worked it really helped us decrease our debt.
Shayder's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 12/15/17 8:48 PM
Pick a different app. Any other app. I downloaded it to see if it was something I would use and was charged right away. I deleted it and did everything I could to cancel it. Still charged me. I emailed in because their Live Chat was down. I was told I had to chat in, no other option. No option to cancel the subscription in the app or online. So I chat in today and I’m told I have to cancel through iTunes and ask for my refund through them. I was sent in circles. It’s utter bull and proves the dishonesty of the app. I wouldn’t trust them with my bank account info. No way.
GoCee's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 12/14/17 4:32 PM
Update: Dropped to one star because the app is slowly falling apart even as the app is forcing me to pay monthly for what used to be free. Will drop at the end of this month and pick up a new budget app in January. Now it doesn’t sync with any of my accounts and I have changed nothing on my end. Update: Dropping to two stars. Every since users were forced to a minimum payment plan, the app has quit working with two of my three bank accounts. One has had a support ticket open for two months. I resent having to pay a monthly fee and get even less service than the free version. I've been using this app in 2017 and like many things about it. Took a LONG time to set it up, though. Not as intuitive as it seems to understand the way the credit card accounts work and catch up on pre-app transactions. I like it but I really miss the reporting functions Goodbudget has. I used that for all of 2016 but wanted to find something that was easier to sync. Please, Mvelopes, if you are reading this, add a reports function so we can see income vs spending and categories as percentages of spending--and on a monthly and yearly basis. Without it, I may drift back to Goodbudget.

I had not had an opportunity to use this because I purchased Quicken, so I could avoid a monthly charge. I called to cancel it so they would not charge me. I was transferred to a manager to see if I could have it cancelled! I told them that I had not had an opportunity to use it, so they gave me one month free. I called to cancel it even before the month was over, and they still charged me two weeks after cancellation!

I cannot add any bank account! I talked with Nicholas in customer service and said there was an issue with “ integration”. However he didn’t give me a time table when it would be fixed and was short with me. I love this app it really has changed my life but they need better customer service as well as an I.T team that is quicker at solving issues. Haven’t been able to do anything with my bank account activity in a week.
hhgail's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/8/18 9:25 PM
A group I was in suggested this app because the financial advisor giving lessons about budgeting loves it. I put it off but saw my student debt climbing and decided I could at least try it. I couldn’t. Went to put in my account info to connect them, and it said it was sending codes but nothing happened. I tried to reset the Mvelopes account-nothing. It’s a shame because I’ve heard it was wonderful-and to hear that from a person making a living of advising people out of thousands of dollars of debt with the help of this product and not be able to use it with a widely known bank is incredibly disappointing. I made sure to unsubscribe before it tried to charge me for a blank page.

Organizes my finances so i know exactly where i stand. All of my expenses are categorized and it’s easy to move money from one envelope to another if things change. Each week i fund them from my profile which can also be adjusted. Had a problem connecting to my bank one time and they fixed it quickly.

I have been a long time user of mvelopes and love the concept. However, the app is often slow and ones accounts don't show up, making it impossible to have the transactions to be downloaded. I have spoken to customer service several times and promised a fix, but it still hasn't happened. Don't spend any money on this app until they can get their act together!
Weirdmusiclover's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/5/18 6:52 PM
Awesome app! My husband and I have used it to budget for several years now. The app is very user-friendly and has every feature we need. I gave it four stars because once in a a while Mvelopes has difficulty connecting to our credit cards, but the issue seems to happen less and less.
jkreuze's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/5/17 3:15 AM
I signed up for this app because of how easy it said the trial membership was. Once the app was downloaded and my information entered, there is no way to easily cancel the account. The website tells me I can only cancel from my phone but the app on my phone will only allow me to change to a different paid subscription. This app is definitely not worth the hassle it’s already caused and I still have no idea how to cancel.
Reebootva's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/3/18 8:22 PM
Mvelopes is a fantastic take on a cash based personal finance process. I love how these folks have designed the app and product. However, the app is buggy and I expect more from something I pay a subscription to use. If you use the browser, you have no access to the credit card folder to post payments. If you use this app, your automatic assign transactions don’t assign. So this means you have to use both the app on iPhone/iPad AND the browser to use this system. It’s been over a year since I reported these bugs and the developers are happy to let them stay as is. I am loath to give 2 stars, but I don’t think a developer that leaves large bugs and charges a subscription should get off with now penalty. Id change this rating in a heartbeat if the developer addressed these and other bugs, of the app was free.
Warped09's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/3/18 12:25 PM
I purchased through iTunes. I set up an account. I go to sign in and it takes me to a page in the app to purchase again. I click on the purchase through iTunes button and a pop up comes up and says you have already purchased through iTunes and gives me my expiration date. I click on ok and it takes me back to the purchase page again. I click on the sync button and it try’s to sync and then says I haven’t made any purchases through iTunes and takes me back to the purchase page once again. I checked my purchases through my iTunes ID and It’s showing that I’m being charged for 2 subscriptions of Mvelopes and I cant use it at all.

Mewrfargeas's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/20/17 4:35 PM
I recently synced my accounts and the numbers are right... Except they are negative amounts. The app thinks I don’t have funding and I haven’t been able to do anything with it. A waste of time. Luckily, I’m still on the “Free Trial”. But I’m getting no effective usage at all so I’m deleting. I’ll buy real envelopes.
Kooph429429's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 11/18/18 7:32 PM

I’ve been an Mvelopes user since 2010. My wife and I have mostly used the web app, but have recently been trying the mobile app to make sure we keep to the plan. One of my favorite features of Mvelopes is the credit card support. We can use our credit card and earn rewards, and it feels like using cash. It works because I don’t care what’s in my actual accounts (visa, savings, checking..... I only care about what’s in an envelope and everything works out.

swanbizzle's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 10/25/17 1:43 PM
Mvelopes could be a great software for budgeting when it actually works. It is way more advanced than most budgeting applications available. With that said, I have a Capital One Visa card and Mvelopes is not great when it comes to updating transactions. It is usually several days late and this can defeat the purpose of the application since I can't see what the actual status of my individual envelopes are. I understand that this is a security setting established by capital one but Mint is able to see pending transactions that were done just moments before without any trouble. Mvelopes has some major catching up to do in that department. Some others have written that they cancelled their service and then continued to be charged for the service. I had the thought "that's probably just one person." Sadly, this has happened to me too and it has been very frustrating. Maybe one day Mvelopes will be the gold standard for individual budgeting but they have a long way to go before that happens.

I moved from YNAB to Mvelopes about 15 days ago and am happy so far. One feature that I miss is the place tagging to auto suggest payees based on my current location. I am very happy about the Touch ID support. Now Mvelopes needs to rewrite the web UI. The current flash based UI is painful because it lacks find in page support. Also, entering new transactions is frustrating because the envelope selection drop down is tiny and lacks intuitive keyboard searching. The user experience of the web application is akin to a 1990’s Microsoft Business application as apposed to a modern web application .
OrangeBlossomCrew's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 10/14/17 4:28 AM
I am beyond disappointed in this app and the company behind it. I had heard wonderful things about it from a trusted friend and decided to give the free trial a go. Things got insanely busy and figuring out a new way of keeping financial records was not working, so I decided to cancel my account for the time, in hopes of signing back up in a few months. Cancelling my account was a nightmare. It cannot be done online. I tried email and was told I had to use online chat. I tried that and lost the connection after being passed around. I finally got the account cancelled after tremendous amounts of run around, just to log into my iTunes account today and find that I am still being charged the monthly fee, despite my cancellation letter from almost a month ago. Of course, I can’t get ahold of Mvelopes or their parent company to fix this issue. In this day and age, it should not take this much time, effort and frustration to cancel an account. Originally I had planned to come back and try this app again when I had time to rework the way I do our finances. Now, I have zero intention of having anything to do with this app or company, ever again.
Jelisem's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 10/13/18 3:58 PM
This app is free in the App Store but you must pay a monthly fee to create an account and use it. There’s nothing wrong with paid apps however if you are looking for a free budgeting app keep looking.
Amazony71's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 10/13/17 2:36 AM
Ok so this app's idea is bomb. I got used to using it and now depend on it. I've had so many problems with glitchiness. It'll forget my password and username. That's happened more times than I can count and I kept a log of this password because I thought it was me just messing it up. Also, Wells Fargo rarely syncs even close to on time. I also have issues with duplicate transactions. It's just an app that needs a lot of work done to it still. I've also had issues with transactions not matching, or the screen freezes. Just a huge amount of bugs. I always reach out to customer support and their answer is just to delete and reinstall it or completely start over again. The most recent response to having 5 days of transactions flood my inbox of duplicate transactions was "what would like us to do?"....uh, remove them?! Oh, their response to that? If it's just your iPhone....drunk roll....uninstall and reinstall....so now I have 30 of them sitting in my inbox and there is nothing I can do. Can't delete them I do not recommend using this app as it's incredibly frustrating depending on this and it glitches every time you get a rhythm going of accounting for everything.
budgeting family's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 10/12/18 12:49 PM
Overall, this app has helped me budget for our family better than others. Compared to other budgeting apps, I like how I can customize envelopes exactly how I like them (by name and category). Other apps don’t allow this, although they are free, I feel like it’s worth it for us. It’s fairly intuitive and they have plenty of online tutorials to help you along the way. My reasoning for giving it four stars is often when I’m using the website on my computer, the text sometimes overlaps, making it difficult to read. I am also still struggling with the sweep system. I set up a sweep to occur at the end of the month, and the sweep happened right there. It might be user error and I have a little more learning to do! If you’re looking for an envelope system, I would suggest this one.

I heard a lot of great things about this app, unfortunately I can’t get past the page where you pick your subscription plan. I choose the $3.99 a month plan and then it just keeps telling me I’m already subscribed. I close out, restart, log in again and it’s the same thing. I have tried on my iPad and my iPhone. Guess I won’t be using this app now.

Update 1/29/18: looks like my issue was user error! Mvelopes was responsive and quickly helped me to identify and resolve the problem. Mvelopes takes a while to get set up, but I highly recommend this product if you’re trying to monitor spending and stick to a budget. I particularly like the ability to split transactions among different categories. I was originally confused about the relationship between the Budget and the Inbox tabs, but was able to speak with a representative to get clarification. Original comments: The website hasn’t worked in several days now. I get an error message every time I attempt to log on. No communication from Mvelopes regarding the issue.

Man, oh, man! I am all about time management, being frugal, and doing what I want, when I want. Mvelopes has literally turned my life around. I have been able to go from borrowing all of my tuition and working part time, to working full time, budgeting my money (and using other apps, my time) to pay for school out of pocket. My retirement has grown, I'm 22, my net worth is finally over 5k, I never thought I'd be able to get to a point where I was in control financially, especially while still in my undergrad. I feel proud and confident, and I have the ability to save for the things I want and see my savings grow. It's marvelous. I like the online version best for the comprehensive yearly trends to analyze where you spend your money. Edit: I love mvelopes when it works, but their customer service is non-existent. I waited 2 weeks before I came and edited and knocked my ratings down a few stars. They now require you to pay for the app, and then once something goes wrong with your account, you are SOL. I want to love this company again, but I feel like a sitting duck waiting for my email to be answered or my ticket to be resolved.
CashFan's Review of MvelopesReviewed on 1/19/18 11:20 AM
When we were is big time debt about 10 years ago, we found mvelopes and some will power. Mvelopes has its quirks but use their awesome support to get your accounts setup and it pays off. After trying literally all other budgeting tools, mvelopes by far best helps me manage my budget and goals. You can see where your money is, and once the envelope is empty you know to stop spending. But most software does that, that’s not what makes it unique. What makes it unique is how it manages your credit card each month. Once you connect mvelopes with your bank accounts AND credit card account, it requires you to pull money from an envelope for every credit card transaction and sets it aside in a separate envelope for you to pay your bill off each month in full. I’m now a lifetime subscriber to mvelopes and teach young couples how to budget using the mvelopes software. I’m saving that fifth star for when they update from flash!
