A few things I feel that would make the app better. When using DIRECTV NOW on my Apple TV I’ve noticed that even when I set my channel guide to favorites. Once I swipe over on the Apple remote it seems to go through every channel. I would prefer that when I set my guide to favorites. So when I swipe the remote it would just cycle through my favorite channels, not everything in my package. Another thing that would be nice to have added would be a list of all the shows that I have started a series recording for. At the moment for me to keep track I’ve had to book mark each show. This way I know personally for myself that I have added it to a series recording. It would be nice just to have it in a list form once I’ve added it to my series recording, without having to book market myself. Finally please keep working on getting more of our local channels like “CW” to more areas. As of now you do not offer it in the Kansas area, which would be great to have and I imagine a lot of people would love to have it.

Should get a refund. The hdmi streaming to my tv in the RV was acceptable so I purchased a wireless hdmi system for $300. It is now useless since they blocked hdmi. I am cancelling. I was a manager for ATT and am very disappointed

Says I’m not connected to the internet when I try to watch live. But it uploads the previews so clearly it’s connected. Leave it to att/direct tv to make another terrible service.

I’m extremely happy with DirecTV Now. I hear many of the complaints loud and clear and I share some of the same frustrating experiences. With that said, the channel lineup is almost perfect for me, I like having the DVR and I can’t beat the price. I’m very happy.

Price is great. It’s not perfect when streaming, do not ever expect streaming to be flawless but over a 90% success rate. Biggest complaint is the user interface. It’s can be much improved, Sling has a a far better interface and I wish they would create a “last channel button” you cant imagine how annoying it is to watch something on USA Network and want to turn back to ABC

Every single time I go to watch a movie or a show something happens where it freezes, screen goes black, or even if I pause it, it will start it over from the beginning. It doesn’t pick up where you left off, nor can you fast forward to where you left off. You are stuck having to watch the part you already watched all over again. Though I have done this because I was really into this movie only for it to happen again. I wasn’t up for watching it a 3rd time either.

I really want this to work but no way you can enjoy a big football game with out freezing, especially if you try to bounce between two games on different channels. My theory, the more people watching (the bigger the game) the more it freezes. BTW, I have AT&T fiber to the home with an Ethernet cable to AppleTV. It’s not my internet connection.

I get a 10001-009 error message Ben though I’m connected to the internet. Restarting doesn’t help using mobile data doesn’t help. Uninstalling and reinstalling fails. iOS 12 on IPhone X’s max on ATT

So annoyed I actually pay for this service because I can never stream a full show without a black or blue screen covering up my on demand show I was trying to watch... it seems to try to bring up the Live tv show that I wasn’t watching to go over my on demand show... then I have to close the app and reopen. Right now I’ve been trying to watch a show and it’s all messed up... same issue... and trying to get customer service is an even bigger joke.

This app is pure trash with a cable experience to match. The app is clunky and finding anything is a complete hassle. Its just directv trying to make you miss your corded cable experience. This app is more frustrating than click bating browser hijacks.

I signed up for the 85 channel, $55.00/month with LIVE, LOCAL channels. I spent 4 of the 7 (no day 5, I deleted the app!) days of free trial, on the only support DirecTvNow currently has for this application, a Chat Line at some world call center! I spent 4 days being passed around in their Foreign Call Center. Of course the “techs” will not say where they are at but, the way the words are structured in the sentences, it’s like they type in their language and it appears in English ALL MIXED UP. LOL. BUT, Back to review of app. In 4 days of trying to get the Live, Local channels, I ‘chatted’ with 23 agents/techs, 3 supervisors, spent most of the time ‘chat’ is available on the chat line and yet I still cannot get live tv. Only thing available on the live, local channels (ABC, CBS, NBC. FOX) is the Old, Recorded Series shows and these are not up to date! Last available showing for the only one show I might even care to watch was recorded in 2016! During this time, each and every person assured me that they could fix the problem and I wouldn’t have to talk to anyone else. Each and every one, asked the same questions even though I would tell them, up front, what had been done, what I had been asked, what devices I was trying the application on. Not only the same questions asked but, the excuses were the same. My ROKU must be outdated, I returned the 1 week old ROKU and bought a more expensive model and it STILL didn’t work! they blamed it on the brand new, still in box until I tried the app, Amazon Fire stick, blamed it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A, my IPad Pro, my IPhone 10. They blamed my TV, because it isn’t a “Smart TV” (thought that’s with the ROKU and Fire Stick were for?), the zip code on my IP was wrong (AT&T checked and everything was correct), my ISP had wrong info, I needed to have my ISP change me from dynamic to static, I need my ISP to change from Static to dynamic. The last 2 changes were never made so why one agent said dynamic and the agent this one transferred me to said Static,I have no idea! Especially since I had not contacted my ISP and no changes had been made. When the agent started to argue with me about dynamic and static, he said “just contact your ISP to correct it!” I very calmly. asked him why, since he’s a tech, why he couldn’t correct it? “Well, I don’t work for your ISP and it would be illegal.” Oh, don’t you work for AT&T? Agent “yes, I’m 1 of their managers here at the call center.” Then you work for my ISP! The back peddling! Oh well, let me go back and check. After 12 minutes of waiting, this “manager” disconnected the chat without saying anything to me! Still no live, local channels! The only channels I watch that cannot be streamed live, channel 2 CBS, and even that is just for the LIVE NEWS BROADCASTS! Well, found out for $5.99/month, I can stream ANYTHING CBS and affiliates broadcast! Downloaded the CBS ALL ACCESS app, worked from the beginning! No FOREIGN CALL/CHAT SUPPORT! Save yourself the time, the headaches and don’t listen to the FOREIGN CALL/CHAT agents lie to you. Many, many other, better, LESS EXPENSIVE, streaming channels out there! PASS ON THIS ONE!

Note: this is a review for the DirecTV Now Apple TV app: Updated review - 9/21/18 Although the latest update for the iOS app claims to have “fixed interrupted viewing”, the Apple TV app keeps having this issue. Almost daily, a program will suddenly go to black-screen/silent. Pressing the Menu button returns to the program guide where the channel can be selected and then the program resumes. They need more thorough testing procedures - obviously. Updated review - 8/17/18 Earlier issues resolved in exchange for a new one: intermittent program dropouts - screen going silent and black in the middle of a broadcast. No loss of internet connection, as issue is resolved by clicking “menu” and re-selecting a program. This happens almost daily now. Previous review - 6/17/18 How do you take a flawed app and make it even worse? 1. Require a login every time you re-open the app. 2. Release an update that randomly crashes on the Apple TV. See my earlier review for all of the other issues DirecTV failed to fix in the latest update... ____________________ Earlier review: I’ve been enjoying the service, but the new app has introduced some cumbersome navigation issues: 1) when the app is restarted, it defaults to “All Channels” rather than the last displayed user preference - I.e. “Favorites”. 2) opening the channel guide now requires multiple clicks on the remote, depending on the last navigation state. Typically, you now need to open the ‘featured’ page, then navigate to the ‘Guide’ button. This previously only required pressing ‘up’ on the remote. Plus navigating on the featured page and exiting to a program is cumbersome. 3) exiting to the main Apple TV menu previously required only a couple of presses of the “Menu” button on the remote. It now requires at least four or five presses, which navigate back and forth to the guide, then finally exiting the app. Very surprised DirecTV did not catch these issues.

It’s been well over a year and we are still not able to take advantage of Single Sign-On. Instead, Directv Now wants us to have to login to every Now app and every ESPN, CBS, HBO, etc. app on every Apple device we own. I guess Directv Now customers aren’t as important as the real Directv satellite customers, who have had this feature since the beginning. This feature is possible as other streaming services already provide it.

Would be much more usable with a previous channel option. Also the guide with the "favorite channel" icon right next to the station causes many accidental clicks (inadvertently adding or removing favorites). Guide is clunky. Need ability to jump directly to a channel (like selecting a channel) so that you don’t always have to go through the guide. Keep releasing new features. You CNA make this a great app/service!

I've had DirectvNOW since day 1. It was terrible and glitchy then, but most of the errors have been worked out. I only have one minor issue now. Every so often, the screen will go black and I have to go to the menu and click on the channel I am watching again, and the video streams fine again for a while. It doesn't appear to be my connection. I have a solid mesh wifi network and hard wired GB LAN. all other streaming services work as expected. It would also be nice if each Apple TV remembered the last channel they were on instead of jumping around to last streamed show, its annoying to scroll through a ton of channels to get back where you want (I know there is a search option too). Overall for the price I pay, still worth it. I also get every local channel in my area.

I like the app and yes there are performance issues which I hope will be fixed as time goes on but The one thing that really bothers me at this point is the added channels in the guide which I don’t have access... I would either like them removed or should be discolored like highlighted in red to let me know that I don’t have access.

Whether or not it’s the iPhone app or the Apple TV app, using this is just painful. There’s not a time, especially on Apple TV, where the stream freezes and I wind up having to restart the app at least 5 or 6 times in the course of an hour. I do not have this problem with other video streaming apps. Come on AT&T!! PLEASE FIX IT!

Terrible app of the day and month. I’ve had this app for months now and there are so many needed updates for the app to function properly. Most tv shows aren’t available for viewing although it just aired a week or days ago. App constantly freezes in the middle of viewing a live show, then crashes and won’t reboot. It’s as if the app isn’t connected to live current moments of tv land. So many customers pay a premium for this service only for it to not work even harder month after month. AT&T or Direct TV or whomever is in charge nowadays need a highly motivated tech team on the inconsistencies and short comings of this app.

The issues we had before with the screen going blank during a program is even worse after this mandatory update. Last night while watching a show, the screen went blank twice during an hour show. The sound keeps going but the picture goes blank. Just started watching taped show and a still shot of some other show pops up on my screen! Horrible! Please fix

Nothing works right, either it won’t load picture or the sound is off. Most of the shows on the On Demand won’t play. Best advice I can give is go with NetFlix, Hulu, Amazon, etc ....anything but this waste of space

Do not get tricked into ‘upgrading’ to this streaming service. The service itself is clunky and not easy to use at all. Can’t rewind pause or fast forward media. Movies and media don’t pick up where left off if the app crashes or when later coming back to it. Lag, lag, lag. Apparently the new business model for corporations is to have us (consumers) pay to be beta testers. There should be some illegality to this fraudulent malpractice. Will be cancelling my free week and will not return until Directv Now is a refined and user friendly experience. I’ll pay for this when they come out with an app for Xbox One X. Otherwise why bother. Not gonna shell out for a Samsung Smart TV, nor an Apple TV when I don’t need them. Xbox is my preferred hub for all media viewing, and has the most mainline experience. Why bother watching TV and media on my smartphone? Pay to watch on a tiny screen? No thanks. And finally, I refuse to watch any media on any browser. Browser experience regardless of provider (HBO/DIRECTV/NETFLIX, ETC) all have the WORST experience on browsers, regardless of browser. Streaming media on browsers is a total waste because of a poor experience.

The app constantly suffers from glitches when trying to stream live TV or other on-demand content. Every 15 to 30 minutes the screen freezes on a different image while audio continues. The only way to continue watching the program you intended is to exit the app altogether and start over. The only reason we are using DIRECTV NOW because we canceled our satellite subscription and they offered it for free.

Did anyone actually test this app before releasing it? I signed up for DirecTV Now and this app is a pain to use (even on my Apple TV). The app asks me for a sign in every day or two. WHY???? The DVR glitches (doesn’t record, issues with rewind or fast forward) and the video occasionally just.. drops... away. Seriously guys, is this amateur hour?

Love the notion of having direct tv w/o the satellite!! No contract!! Visually appealing! However, there needs to be a way to stop the on demand because I think it’s running and the background and causing the app to run slow. On demand episodes constantly changing availability.. Buffering is very annoying but so far logging out/logging in helps for a bit .. Inconvenient as it is.. Keep improving and I’ll stick around!

So I got an Apple TV when I signed up. The Apple TV works more seamlessly with my TV/Audio system than my Roku so I have that on my main TV. However, I’m almost convinced the developers for this app for Apple TV just aren’t even trying. It continuously clocks when trying to switch channels. It freezes up quite often. The channel guide doesn’t scroll back to the beginning when you reach the end. The Roku version has none of these issues. If this were as reliable as the Roku version, I’d go at least 3 and maybe 4 stars. So the service is decent at least on a Roku, but the Apple TV app needs a lot of help.

Ok this was perfectly fine, I could find the movies I wanted to watch, the shows I wanted to watch, anything. Now I can’t do any of that, I used to be able to play something without having to hopefully find it streaming. To many adds I have to say, Netflix is better I’m out.

Oh, the problems and issues that should be fixed.After latest update I have to keep signing in every couple days. Every time I open the app, either on iPhone or Apple TV, it’s on DIY Network (even those frequent times when I get logged out and have to log back in). The “Watch Now” suggestions don’t update. So I have to use the guide to find something else to watch. The guide should continuously scroll. If I scroll to the bottom I should be able to continue and it rolls to the top. After the Weather Channel should be AMC. The Directv satellite guide used to do this, so did Dish and cable. Some channels take forever to load and frequently error out. Recordings on the DVR cut off the last 5 minutes of shows. Several recording have errors and will quit playing midway thru program. Many of these were brought up during beta testing. What were you doing during beta testing. All you had to do was take the old Directv Now app and bolt on DVR, don’t understand why you had to try to revamp everything as well.

1- After my promotional pricing was over my plan was supposed to be $39.95 a month. There is no detailed bill to look at. There is a total lack of customer service. 2-The cloud dvr is in beta and playback can be extremely choppy and you are limited to 20 hours....

It’s okay overall but ATT could do better. CW is only included in certain areas, they should put that in the channel lists. Not all tv apps have DirecTV Now on their list of tv providers and customers aren’t able to access all of the additional content that could be available. Then there’s the fact it doesn’t support the mirror function, I use an HDMI converter for my iPhone to stream directly from my phone to my tv. I have to actually buy a streaming device just to watch DirectTV Now app on my tv.

The latest update needs updating. The app keeps shutting down about every 10 minuets and have to reopen the app on ROKU. It might be worth it to switch to someone else. And now you are raising the price by $5 a month. You should fix what you have before adding more crap making it worse and end up losing subscribers.

I’ve been a avid user since the beginning with the new updates from beta tests I can no longer mirror my screen from my iPad or iPhone to my Apple TV. Nor can I use the hdmi adapter to watch the streaming with the devices. It was very useful for me when I travel to a city to not have to watch from such a small screen. Whatever you locked out please open it back up.

I downloaded the Directvnow to start a subscription with them. My tablet app works fine, it is the so called chromecast and airplay that does not work. It starts out trying to connect then drops it and the only thing I see on my screen is Directvnow ready to cast. If it ready to cast why wont it connect? Same thing goes with airplay. It wont connect. I connected them thru chat a few times and they said they sent the issue to the high tier which is the advanced team to fix it. That was a few days ago. Last night when contacting them again to see what the update was on it they said it was fixed and to try it in 60 minutes but when I did it still didn't work. I am disappointed because I thought directv was the best at being there for their customers.

Endless buffering. A confusing and slow interface. DVR is a cruel joke as all recordings are either mysteriously unplayable, or clogs your measly 20hr lo-res allotment with recordings only to be informed on playback the “owner of the content does not allow streaming.” But open it on another device and it does. It’s maddening. It’s like the whole thing is a cruel, sick joke. Considering this is the largest media and now content owner in the world, it’s pretty sad. And scary. Because try to do something about it. Try calling to customer service and hear about how they take your concerns “very seriously” and then do NOTHING to mitigate. And the thing is, I can go right from DTVN to Prime video and Prime just works. In HD. And Amazon has not been a media and communications specialist for the last CENTURY. It’s just appallingly pathetic and sad.

Not sure what happened. Was working just fine before the last update. Now it doesn’t play my recordings or anything on demand. It just freezes as the time continues to tick down. I left sling to go to this and now I feel like I’m wasting my money. Fix this now!

I really like DirectTv NOW when I first got it but now I can’t even stream from my phone to my tv. Once I contacted them they told me it would be fixed within 72 hours and that there was a lot of people with the same problem. I was able to stream from one day and now unable to again!! This has no use for me if I am unable to stream!!!!!!

This app loses two stars for its poor stability and lack of a dark mode — the white color scheme is unpleasant. I’ve recorded World Cup matches only to see that playback is unavailable when I want to watch them in the evening. 🙁 I’m also hoping that DIRECTV NOW offers the English language version of BeIn Sports. Having only BeIn Sports in Espanol available is disappointing. Please, please, please, add English language BeIn Sports or let us connect to BeIn Sports Connect as part of our subscription. 🙏

Buffering issues since app update. Not worth paying each month. Very frustrating when you turn on TV go into (APP) bam it gets buffering every 10-15 mins. All customer service tells you is to log out or reinstall app which is done daily. Why should any pay $35.00 a month for something that someone created that doesn’t work.

The app needs some serious love on the UI side of things. A random show shouldnt be live when opening the app and it should show your shows first not a random list. It also needs color and contrast work with the menus. Button location is a little off too.

My boyfriend and I took a chance and tried out this service. We absolutely love it! The only complaint I have is when watching on Apple TV the commercials are so incredibly loud compared to the volume of the show. Hoping this will be fixed in a future update.

My app keeps losing the ability to fast forward fifteen seconds when i push to the sides of the touch remote. Resetting the Apple TV fixed it temporarily but the issue returned within days. I have three Apple TVs and it's the same story with all of them. Please fix. Update: the TV app keeps signing me out and keeps showing me the same ridiculous tutorial over and over. Please fix. Another update: the service is completely down this morning. Are you kidding me? AT&T owns this, right? C'mon.... Update: first world problems, logged me out again. Ridiculous.

This app is pretty good and I’m still paying a lot less than cable. Directv Now app has DVR, but just not like what you expected. You can’t rewind 15 or 30 seconds live TV like you can with other DVR services. You can however watch the show from the beginning, but if you just want to rewind back a few seconds this could be a draw back for you. My other issue is that when my nephews come over to watch Cartoon Network, the channel seems to be defective in which the screen isn’t centered or sometimes the color scheme is off. Once in a while it gets fixed, but only to get messed up again. This seems like a Directv problem, as my sister has dish network and the channel seems fine there. Update: I have to keep logging onto the iPad version. I should be able to jump right in the video, but it keeps logging me out every time I exit the app.

I used this app to watch the HBO included in my AT&T Unlimited plan. Terrible buffering and connection issues were rampant. Sound quality via Lightning to HDMI adapter was awful, too. I downloaded HBO Go and used my DirecTV Now credentials to login. Much better experience with no buffering. I would not pay a subscription for this service.

Version 2.1.0, Build 813 - Requires a user ID and password every time I use it. The ‘helpful’ shaded menu guide layer is incredibly intrusive and there isn’t a way to turn it off. Screen goes to black once or twice an hour. You have to restart the app to get the picture back. You can use the DVR but the sound drops out frequently on playback. Not worth the monthly charge.

I’ve been with DIRECTV NOW since the start. Love the progress they’ve made! Take time and be patient. This product doesn’t act exactly like the other services out there. They have their own unique spin on it, and it does take some time to grasp if you’re new to it, or coming from another service. I’m looking forward to the bright future AT&T has in store for DIRECTV NOW!

The programs stall and often completely fail. DVR does not record requested shows, records shows I didn't ask for. DVR is limited to 6 hours vs 20 even after following tech support advise. Continue to get to many devices streaming even when only one device is in use. Programs fail half way through with comment that content not authorized. I keep asking WHY am I paying for this terrible service.

Love this app. Our family doesnt need 2000 channels and a $200 tv bill. This gets me news , hockey, GREAT World Cup coverage, etc. Add HBO for $5.. cmon man. This app is perfect for us. If you need more tv than this than you need to get outside with your kids more often.

I loved this application until the latest update. For example when I set to record something it records but skips around in the recording so I miss a lot of my episode. It is not one station either I have episodes on MTV, ABC, The CW, and more and they all do the same thing. Please fix the glitches that everyone has voiced.

I like having DVR functionality, but the new design is horrible. Super slow on Apple TV to a point where it's unusable. On iOS navigation is a little better, but still super confusing, and the new white colored backgrounds is blinding when you're trying to watch TV.

Worked great for the first 4 months or so and then the last update all but killed the service for me. Using in rural setting and every time we try to watch a show it says the internet is having problems yet I can go to the network apps directly or Apple TV and stream a movie with no problem. Needs to be fixed or I’ll need to look at alternatives

Worked good before updated to v2. Now I have lost the ability to hook iPhone to tv via hdmi and stream. I live in the sticks with no internet options (satellite only, and it’s awful!). So I stayed with ATT, having only a single bar of LTE sometimes, to use directv to cut down on monthly cost. Every other streaming app allows us to use hdmi..amazon, Netflix, etc. I’m waiting another billing cycle for update back to hdmi usage then I’m canceling. I am too vision impaired to watch tv on my phone And I’m not paying for a service I cannot use. Better get this fixed guys..I see ALOT of reviews stating the same thing I am

Yay!!! finally the update is working with the Apple HDMI connector. If you look for the airplay icon on your phone and then make sure it’s checked marked to the apple dock connector and not the Apple TV or your iPhone it now works correctly like the old app, it streams to the TV. I hope this helps other people find this because I didn’t like the update till it fixed the dock connector. Now all I need to do is try the DVR feature and if that works then it would rate it a five stars.

So far so good. Works flawlessly on my iPhone X. I’m mirroring to my old Apple TV 3rd gen till my 4K arrives. Must say for WiFi from router to phone to Apple TV the video is still top notch! Love the cloud recording and the on demand. I’m hooked!

Black screens, loading issues, constant stopping, skipping and buffering and an endless assortment of error messages abound in this latest version of Crap 2.0 and of course the error message that leads the pack will say that it’s your network that’s having a problem (NOT!) The second leading error messages reads: “This content has an issue and can’t play. Give it another try or select something else to watch.” So you pay to watch something and they tell you to select something else t o watch (brilliant) Then there’s the fallback error message: “The content is not authorized.’ Not to mention the DirecTV Now viewer stupidity test message: “Still loading... thank for your patience.” (Don’t fall for it - It doesn’t load) And now AT&T merged with TimeWarner... Excellent! Now AT&T will have even more time to create even more error messages which is a lot easier to do instead of fixing the endless numerous problems since the day they gave birth to DirecTV Now. Oh and the Cloud DVR service... I just love it when it fails to load during the last four minutes of a movie... It encourages you to use your imagination. DirecTV Now... I will send you $1,000,000 dollars if you - - - SORRY, THIS MESSAGE HAS AN ISSUE AND CAN’T LOAD. GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY OR SELECT SOMETHING ELSE TO READ.

When I first got this app last June ( 2016 ) I was able to plug in my HDMI adapter to my iPhone 7plus and stream on my TV. Since the most recent update that feature no longer works. Every time I click on a show to watch I get an error that says there is no internet connection. This has happened on my iPhone and my iPad. I live out in the country where I can not get WiFi to use other wireless streaming devices and since it streams data free with my ATT service I assumed it would be perfect! Well it used to be but now, not so much. Now I am highly considering canceling my subscription for this service because what is the point of having it if I can only watch it from my phone or iPad screen and not on the tv like I used to be able too. If y’all could consider changing this back, It would be greatly appreciated!

If you are new to Directv Now you might not realize that this app suffered a serious downgrade when it was updated a few weeks back. They have made a few tweaks in the meantime, but the difference between the previous version and now is still a steep nosedive. Some issues I have noticed: 1. The app loads slower on my Roku player. The latest tweak adds a “please be patient” message to the splash screen. Admittedly, slow loading would be okay if the app was great. It is not. 2. Channel surfing now stinks. It used to be fairly effortless. Now it can take from 1 to 4 button presses to change a channel. It is easier if you change channels using the guide, but it’s still irritating that something which used to work now doesn’t. 3. The on demand interface has become slow and clunky. In some cases as you move down screen through choices the whole screen blacks out momentarily. I’ve never seen any other app on Roku behave so poorly. 4. Preferences do not save. Particularly, I turn auto play off and when I leave and come back it is set to on. This may lead to the next issue: 5. Continue Watching is screwy. If I choose not to keep watching the next episode, I get stuck on a black screen. Pressing back will eventually get me out, but then my queue either has the same episode, same place, or the next episode (I did say no, didn’t I?). Oh, and these changes in my Continue Watching queue sometimes show up the next day, not immediately. 6. Streaming took a big performance hit. The latest tweak may possibly have helped, but it never should have gotten worse. 7. On the login screen, the login button is highlighted even when my user i.d. and password are blank. Why is it ready to log in if there is no user i.d. or password entered? Start on the user line. 8. The Help Center function simply tells you the website to go to. Don’t even call it a help center then. 9. Beta DVR? Why bother? 10. No parental controls. My t.v., and I suspect many others, can’t control ratings except with over-the-air broadcast. My cable box has controls built in to accommodate. This app doesn’t. Don’t just park your kiddies in front of DirecTV Now unsupervised. As for content, only slightly better basic package than cable (still 90% garbage I don’t want), no local channels or regional sports where I live, to get even one non-premium channel extra means buying an entire package loaded with channels I don’t want, just the same as cable. Only real win is price. I almost suspect they released this app half-baked on purpose. They are currently pushing for new subscribers. Are they willing to alienate their current base in exchange for a new following that accepts low functionality as the standard, and who are delighted at upgrades that slowly regain what old-timers know was lost? Wish I could say no.

This app not only fails regularly, it will also screw up Roku device requiring removal and reinstall. Half assed attempt by AT&T to lure customers with "free HBO" if you are willing to put up with this app continuously crashing, or you can upgrade to Direct TV. Nice try at&T. You almost have the Monopoly now with the time Warner approval. I was. Wondering when the screwing would start. Save yourself the hassle. DirecTV now does not work and there is no support available... What a joke.

ok when i got this service , i hooked my phone to the TV with my HD adapter i started watching some channels for a few hours the first day . and it seemed ok but the next day it would only show on my phone and not on the TV , not matter what i tried it kept giving me a message on the TV screen that my TV didnt have internet .. lol thats so lame , the day before it was working perfectly , and Im very knowledgeable with ipads iphones iwatches and anything electronic. so i knew what i was doing , i tried many times and it didnt work same dark screen with a message, it would only play on my phone , and just to make sure i would try same adapter with another app and it would right away show on the tv , so it was the worthless directtv now app it only worked for 3 hours then never again, and im not about to watch cable on a little phone , I DONT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYBODY SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME

In early May 2018, an app worked fine when I performed screen mirroring by connecting my iPhone to TV. A few days ago I upgraded the app version to 2.1.0 and got an error message stating, “Your video can’t play because you are offline. Please ensure your have an internet connection and try again.” It was occurred when I connected my iPhone to tv for screen mirroring. I tested both cellular data and WiFi. Unfortunately, neither worked at all. I still can watch tv shows on my iPhone without screen mirroring. Looking forward to a new version soon.

After one day of using the Apple TV, DIRECTV NOW forgets my login credentials and I have to relogin every other day. On the days it happens to remember me, the in app tutorials (swiping left or right switches channels for example) keeps playing.

If you have an issue then good luck. How can a phone company not offer a phone number for customer service. They do offer chat, but you quickly find out it’s a virtual assistant not a real person on the other end. makes me think if I should move to a different provider that offers real people to talk to.

The streaming is ok, but watching a movie is impossible, even if it’s been recorded. Every movie I’ve tried shows 7 minutes of movie and then 5 minutes of commercials. If the movie has been recorded you can only advance through the commercials on 15 second increments and they each take 5 to 7 seconds to advance forward, so you still end up with over 2 minutes of commercial time. If you try to advance more quickly the system freezes. Totally a waste.

I am a blind user that uses an iPhone 8 which is currently updating to iOS 11.4, and I use voiceover on the phone. Unfortunately, there are many features in this app that do not work very well with voiceover. It will not tell me a list of the networks, whether they are premium or regular networks, Norwood tell me any of the movies or TV shows that I can watch. When I search for a particular channel, I must know what that channel is already called in this app. Even then, when I brings up the options of what is available, it is not all that clear where to tap to select what I want to watch. It literally is a game of hit and miss. Also, it is not possible to speak to a live person to ask any questions about using this app. If I am chatting with someone, that person might be trying to be helpful, but it is not the same when you must go back-and-forth to do whatever you were trying to do and then to go back and check with that person. I wish AT&T would take some of their money from their profits and invested DIRECTV NOW to truly make it a viable alternative to Cable.

Latest update June 27 Still not able to use HDMI cable. Not Good! 😡 Wish I had read the reviews before ordering. I was assured we could use an HDMI adapter streaming from my iPhone to our tv. Not Anymore!! Many many people have purchased this service because they don’t have access to WiFi or landline cable for varying reasons. Who can watch shows only on a phone? Not couples or families who want to watch together. We got this so we could enjoy watching tv. NOT to strain our eyes and get headaches from looking at phones too much. Please correct this bad idea ASAP. Don’t you think you’ll loose many customers? Oh! I’ll just mention they fibbed about my monthly cost too. Higher cost for something we can’t watch together ... like most people I don’t have $$ to waste.

Why can’t their be a section of last Channels? I get the remote functions are limited with Apple, Roku, etc but having a section of recently view channels would be cool. Also, I wish the picture would go into a small box on right while I browse the guide. Having it play dimmed in background doesn’t add anything. I wish the dvr was better. Better organization, etc. let me add minutes to recording for sports like 30 minutes extra, etc.

Don’t do it! I tried to subscribe to the service and when I went to submit my PayPal payment it said there was an error on their part (Directv) and to try again. It charged me anyway. I was told the service would work within 24 hours, the next day I was told I would get a refund, and now I am being told that I wasn’t charged and it is just a hold. It isn’t a hold, I know the difference. Don’t subscribe. The customer service has no idea what they are talking about. I also enter my email address for a chat transcript every time and conveniently I never get an email.

I’m so ready to cancel subscription bc of the channels going in out while watching live tv to trying watch recorded shows that constantly skips parts of the show. On demand always missing episodes. The entire service seems to be getting worse every week.

The latest update needs updating. The app keeps shutting down about every 10 minuets and have to reopen the app on ROKU. It might be worth it to switch to someone else

Can’t use chrome cast at all after recent update. No longer shows my chrome cast connected tv, just says “nearby devices” and when it tries to find one it just crashes. Very hard to use after the recent update.

Terribly unfortunate that this app is so terrible.. again. When this app first came out, it was full of bugs- to the point that it was practically unusable. Over the years it improved, and is became my preferred method for watching TV. Now, they redesigned the app, added new features like DVR recording, and it's almost as buggy as the first versions. [On AppleTV] The screen will randomly go black, playback errors will pop up (always at the best part of a program,) and the guide refuses to load (frequently.) Lots of closing the app and restarting. If you're just now looking to sign up.. wait a months. Now is not the time- you'll just be paying for aggravation. Once they've fixed the app, it's a great thing to have.

Have yo tried typing a password on a remote with one button? Well this app on my Apple TV requires me to log in every time I open the app. It may sound trivial, but this is a pain and takes my time. Strongly considering going back to PS Vue.

Despite the freezing, this app works fine while watching live TV. HOWEVER, if watching a show or movie on demand, the streaming fails periodically. When I refresh the show or movie, it goes back to the beginning! With most shows or movie I can manually fast forward to where I was, but some selections disable the fast forward feature. This makes using this app a nightmare. Save my progress or enable the fast forward feature for all selections!

I literally hated this app and service when it first came out, the price was ridiculous and, so not friendly to Apple TV, it NOW has changed sooooo much with service for multiple devices, much cheaper prices on add ons & etc... now with beta DVR & On Demand. Still have a few more things to add...reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, you all need to integrate with Apple TV like Sling and PlayStation vue on their TV app, and some of the major TV networks app you all are not on as a cable service, like you are with others. But soooo going to cancel my PlayStation Vue Subscription soon, because you have more channels!

every time I plug in my HDMI cord. Direct tv says can’t play because I’m offline. But if the HDMI cord is not plugged in it plays fine. That’s the only reason why I am not going to continue my subscription.

Useful app if you LIVE on your phone and have tossed all your televisions in the dumpster (or recycling because we love the planet). Once you plug the iPhone into a television (Lightning to HDMI) the app is programmed to tell you “No Internet Connection” which is a blatant lie. As soon as you unplug the cable, INTERNET LIKE A MIRACLE! Ain’t that something?! Maybe, the message should read, “YOU CAN NOT STREAM OR TETHER THIS APP BECAUSE WE ARE CHEAP”. I’m not a lawyer, but I have seen them on TV not using this app. Enjoy!

Update: Just downloaded the latest update hoping it would solve some of my issues. Now when I try to cast dvr shows it now says sorry we can’t do that yet working on it, so fine, tried to watch from device and that no longer works! Loads forever then just says there’s an error and cannot play. Also, sound is very low. I have to turn up my tv very loud just to hear it. Awesome step backward for an already disappointing app. Takes forever to cast to my chromecast and won’t cast anything from dvr. At first it would just say there’s been an error or continue to load for an eternity never actually running the show. Now if I try to cast something from the dvr it just crashes the app. Will allow me to watch dvr shows directly from my phone, but that’s not exactly the watching experience I was looking for.

It is slow, jittery, and unpredictable. It crashes often, is difficult to navigate, and is probably the reason my doctor recently prescribed me blood pressure medication. Finally, there are several — no, check that — scores of commercials during a single show. This alone wouldn’t be unbearable, but the transition between each of these commercials is as painful as stumping one’s big toe. Unsatisfactory for paid service.

What’s w all the bad reviews?? I signed up for this service pretty much the first day it was released. It has come a VERY long way since, and it’s constantly improving. It’s still not perfect, but it’s getting close... This is a brand new service and a new concept, so growing pains are understandable. As long as they keep working on improving it and keep prices low, I’m happy. My main complain right now is the occasional buffering (maybe a little more than occasional) Also, support for Android TV would be great. Having channel numbers, so we can quickly go to a different channel would be great too. Other than that, almost every other complain has been addressed.

AT&T never fails to disappoint This App is basically useless. The main reasons are as follows * you cannot record local channels * it takes forever to load a saved show and is constantly freezing * you cannot pick up a show here you left off * there is no back or previous channel function * it crashes in the middle of a recorded show and tells you “ this content has an issue and can’t play. Give it another try or select something different to watch”.......what???? Try something different for something I am paying for. Just plain awful

It is so difficult to cast to my television. It rarely works. The most frequent issue that I have, is the app crashing. When I reopen the app, it tells me I can’t watch on my phone because it’s streaming on my television—hint, it’s not. It’s an endless circle of this message. Now, after the update, it wants to listen for a code with access to my microphone. How absurd. Just let people cast normally!

I have not been able to record any shows with the 20 hours included cloud dvr feature. I have spoken to support and followed troubleshooting and still have been unable to record any shows. Always get an “unable to record, something went wrong error message” through both the app and Apple TV which is very frustrating.

I had high hopes for this app, but it’s just keeps disappointing me. The pause doesn’t work on live tv, the fast forward is a joke, the sound doesn’t match up with the mouths, loading time takes forever on Roku and doesn’t always work. I’m super frustrated and sad that this isn’t what I thought it would be.

Newest update is annoying af. The beta version of this DVR is terrible. Pushed fast forward it takes me back to the beginning of the show. Get to the part where I was and push play and then it takes me to another part of the show. App takes forever to load on our fire stick. Now have to force a stop or uninstall it every time we want to use it.

I used to use this app to watch movies on my tv. This app used to work before the upgrade. I used to plug my iPhone 6 into a lightning digital account adapter and watch hbo. But I tried this app 6-15-18 and got the message: Your video can't play because you're offline. Please ensure that you have an Internet connextion and try again. I don’t know how to put in a complaint for this but maybe this review will get someone attention to fix this issue. In the corner of the screen was the numbers: 10001-009. Please fix before I get rid on this service

Very disappointed in the update. I know that a lot of things are still in beta stage. New update is super slow to open, even slower to load the channels. I sat 19 min waiting for the app to open until I gave up. I will not be continuing my service with this company.

The good. Video quality can be really good, channel selection is good. For the bad, this includes comments on both the iPad and Apple TV releases of the 2.0 app. On Apple TV in DVR, fast forward and rewind voice commands don’t work. Some on demand shows like Supergirl Season 3 Episode 18 (and others) won’t play on Apple TV, yielding 30002-027 errors. On demand library has a lot of gaps in it to start with. Closed captioning on Apple TV sporadically fails, skips, and overwrites itself, such as when I watched season 2: episode 22 from the beta DVR feature. Yes it’s beta, but there is no place to report it other than here. I tried to do so last night via chat and dealt with an idiot who told me to reset my equipment. I already had, so she offered a credit. On the iPad (I ha e a Mini 2) when I go to record something, the dialog box offering to do all episodes or just the new ones occasionally is truncated on the top and bottom, giving just a sliver of a line of the box that allows you to complete the command without actually seeing the words Record Series in there. Less money is nice, but a service that works and wants to make itself better by listening to and fixing bugs is better. So far, my experience with Sling has been better. I see little reason to stay with Direct Now. —- Update. I finished out my time with them. Several shows just plain failed to record, or have so many dropouts in the actual recording that 1/3 of a show records, with no more than a few contiguous seconds of content. This is not a streaming or bandwidth issue... this is a failure of an online DVR to record content. That should have been worked out in alpha testing. I’ve only had a few failures to record, and every dropout was on a Fox station, but I’m dropping to an earned 1 star review because there is no dialog about the problems. I could come back when they fix things, but Sling’s DVR was reliable for me.

I actually did enjoy my Directv Now up until the 2.0 update. As with many you can no longer view on your tv via your Apple lighting to HDMI isadapter. I was a part of the Beta and reported this issue before 2.0 launched. I guess my opinion didn’t mean very much. Please show your customers you care. Our nickels and dimes add up to your Billions

Ever since the latest update, I haven’t been able to access my DirecTV Now account. It just asks me to use my “existing app” which in turn prompts me to download the DirecTV app, which I can’t sign into because my login credentials don’t work for DirecTV. I had been able to use the web based version as a workaround, but now the local channels through the package stopped working. There are too many issues with the DirecTV Now service and from what I’ve read online a general apathy from the company about whether it functions properly. I’m canceling my account.

With the promise of HBO included with my Unlimited AT&T phone plan, the incomplete HBO offering was frustrating enough to discover, but then the poor usability took center stage. It pretends it’s broadcast TV and is constantly trying to stream what’s ‘On TV now’ when I open the app as if that’s something that exists in modern on-demand streaming world. If I wanted a firehose or crappy real-time programming I’d buy cable, satellite tv, or try and figure out how to tune into broadcast TV again. I don’t want shows to automatically start streaming that I don’t give a s***t about. Navigating within the app is terrible, and oftentimes I’ll click to start a show only to have it not do anything. Great job DirectTV, as if satellite TV wasn’t crappy enough, you found a way to make modern streaming a similar experience. Next time take notes from Netflix, Amazon Video, and HBO Go...and maybe Hulu.

First of all, this update requires iOS 10 or higher, which eliminates my iPad 3 that I use for remote TV watching. That’s unfortunate but all part of progress I suppose. But the “Download Last Compatible Version” downloads the older version but when you launch it, it won’t play. Pops up a message saying I have to upgrade my software. Talk about a rip off. Guess it’s time to switch providers to someone that supports iOS 9. Grrr.

Worst streaming service I have ever used. Logins don’t work 90% of the time and when I used their “DVR” I was unable to fast forward my program as their app constantly crashes. Signed up for the 10$ a month promo and it’s not even worth that (as the service or content is inaccessible for what seems to be 90% of the time). Gladly paying the 35$ a month for PSVUE... WHICH ACTUALLY WORKS AS INTENDED.

Previous versions of the app allowed HDMI mirroring so you could watch content on a bigger screen, which was a major feature. Newest version of the app now just says no internet connection the second you plug in the lightening to HDMI adaptor. Attempted on multiple devices with the same result. Plays fine without the adapter, but HDMI mirroring was a big feature that was killed in the newest version either by accident or intentionally.

This works for me in my situation because there is only me and my daughter in the house. They only allow two screens, so I can see where it may not be ideal for families with multiple children. But it works for us. I’m streaming off my Apple TV most days, but I do use my iPad. It’s been okay. I know there’s still some bugs and lags sometimes (but mine doesn’t as much as other people have mentioned it, maybe it’s because I’m using the Apple TV and not Roku?) I must say it needs a lot of improvement. I see the potential though, and over all I’m okay with it for the price, mainly the channel selection.

I’d always use the app at work through the Digital AV Adaptor and now it won’t work, always says I lost my internet connection which isn’t true because I have unlimited data and as soon as I remove my phone from the digital account adaptor it works fine. It use to work fine until the move to the DVR service app. Fix it!

It’s always freezing or loading or a combination of both!! There is only one show i want to watch tonight and that is the ONE channel that’s always frozen!! I originally gave this two stars but that was being generous. I have excellent WiFi and it still happens. The biggest injustice is that my favorite channels will fail to load while others work fine. They improved the channel line up and added dvr and show descriptions which are great. But it’s very inconsistent and if it doesn’t improve by July I’m getting a different app

The DVR consistently records shows I have never once requested to be recorded and doesn’t record shows that I have set up to record. The app crash often and error messages about playing live and recorded videos occur very often, as in daily, multiple times throughout the day.

Ever since the latest update for the DirecTV Now app on my AT&T iPHONE I am no longer able to connect my phone to my tv and watch from my tv. I get the error 10001-009 stating that I’m offline and check my internet connection. I’ve tried using using with just my cellular data still get the same error when it’s connected to my tv. The app works fine without it being connected to the tv. I even tried deleting and reinstalling the app but same problem. Is there anyone else having the same issue? Please need help

Programs stop or stall midway through or fail to load. Your app chucks out a statement regarding a weak Internet signal. I call BS. All the other streaming apps operate fine! This app needs much work in terms of translating signal to streaming.

Now that I’ve updated it I can no longer use my hdmi adapter to view what I’m watching on my full screen tv. The message it gives me is “I’m offline”... this is absurd and it needs to be fixed... until then I don’t recommend.

They need to get it together!!!! No shows wanted to play for me today. I go and restart my phone since it was telling me I didn’t have service even though I know I did just to see if it would work... once I go back in the app, I was no longer able to log back in. I feel like I’m paying for something I can’t even use. I used to be able to go on my iPad at least but I can’t do that anymore either. I’m so disappointed!!! So frustrating. Why is it so hard for them to get it together already!!

It works sometimes and other times just get the spinning circle. Very disappointed for $35 a month. All my other stream apps don’t have this issue. They need some big fixes or I won’t continue this service.

It does work and I use it daily. The new version will not allow me to use a Apple lightening to HDMI Adapter to connect to a TV. When you connect it, it says there is no internet. I contacted support over four weeks ago and still no fix. Because of the lack of response from the creators of this app, I dropped my rating from three stars to two stars. It would be nice if they include a previous channel button so that I do t have to search through the guide to flip between channels.

Your app is forcing me to upgrade to a newer version. However, when I try to upgrade, it will not do so because I'm using an older iPad where the maximum iOS version is 9.3.5. The current version of DirecTVNow requires iOS 10.0 or newer. I'm not upgrading a perfectly good iPad just to get your service. I will be moving to YouTube TV or Hulu Live.

The app is buggy overall. It often cites internet connection issues and will not work, while all other apps and websites function normally. If the app actually loads, sound quality is severely lacking in the BETA DVR, recordings are limited to 20 hours, and it has a confusing design. The guide is cumbersome loading images while you browse programming. It also does not resume playing after interruptions, such as, other airplay content.

Only tho g I dislike is that you have to communicate with them through the web. However we text all the time anyhow so no problems. Every app has its issues but they fix it pretty quickly. Worth the price as well!

I understand that you get DATA FREE when you stream DTV NOW on AT&T mobile, they should also allow DATA FREE on AT&T Internet when steaming on your TV on your home at&t internet!

I haven’t had any technical issues with this app yet. I just had a few ideas that would make it easier to navigate through. I would be happier if there were a new episodes tag on the series title as well as the new episode so that I don’t have to open every series to find new episodes. An option to mark as watched would be helpful as well, occasionally it shows you have already streamed an episode or movie but it is not very accurate.

It used to work fine but the now when the app is launched, it asks to update to the latest version which only runs OS 10.x. Unfortunately, older iPad cannot do - it's maxed out at 9.3.5. Help is much appreciated. Thanks. Will update rating after the problem is resolved.

Streaming suddenly stops at random times. I have to restart my Apple TV to get it back up. None of my other dozen or so streaming apps need this time consuming action to run properly. To add insult to injury Directv even sends out an onscreen notice claiming that the problem is my transmission system. It’s 400 mbs and is delivered directly over Ethernet. I have another two weeks left on my billing month and will then switch back to YouTube TV where I experienced no problems. Thank goodness for competition.

I praised this service to so many people. But now with the 2.0 update removing HDMI support to send TV to my TV, ultimate FAIL! Why would you restrict that? Forcing people to only watch on iPhone/iPads with small screens is ruthless. I could use my Apple TV but that uses data so no I won’t. Secondly the app crashes and even logs me out of my device and I have to log back in again. That’s a bug that needs to be fixed. However I have had little issue with the Bata DVR that seems to be working ok and is a nice addition. Just to bad the important stuff like watching on a TV is not. FIX IT NOW, and at least respond to people who pay you, I’ve sent five tweets for help, I’ve got nothing. That’s not caring about your customer, just willing to take their money no matter what, BAD DirecTV Now, just BAD!

This app is pretty good and I’m still paying a lot less than cable. Directv Now app has DVR, but just not like what you expected. You can’t rewind 15 or 30 seconds live TV like you can with other DVR services. You can however watch the show from the beginning, but if you just want to rewind back a few seconds this could be a draw back for you. My other issue is that when my nephews come over to watch Cartoon Network, the channel seems to be defective in which the screen isn’t centered or sometimes the color scheme is off. Once in a while it gets fixed, but only to get messed up again. This seems like a Directv problem, as my sister has dish network and the channel seems fine there.

Most of the time, it freezes. Also, it takes FOREVER to load into another channel when you change it. When it DOES work, the audio is delayed and/or the display is blurry. There were a lot of glitches where it would just crash and kick you off. I’m sure you can understand how frustrating this can be when you’re really into a show or watching something live. However, I must admit, that has not happened since the new update. All in all it’s just bad.

Since the upgrade of the app’s ver2, casting doesn’t work anymore. Need to fix this app ASAP. 6/12/18: This lousy, stupid app has never worked correctly ever since it was upgraded to version 2.0. Your programmers are not worth a penny. This entire service is not worth a buck. Your customer service also makes us wait and know nothing what’s going on, and they chat like they can fool their customers. Ridiculous!!! This entire service is a joke!!! Good UI but the performance is just horrible. I got 100mbit/s fiber but it buffers constantly, so slow changing channels, I have never been able to use their recording function because it simply doesn’t work. I would never pay $35+/month, I pay $10/month to test it out for 3 months. YouTube live tv or Hulu live tv works so much better, try those.

Update - Come on People! It’s been three weeks since the big update to add DVR. The DVR does not work and if you are using iOS and/or Chromecast enabled TV’s the app is still not casting anything! The live chat link is still not working on iOS so there is NO FORM OF SUPPORT. How could a company as large as this leave customers with no service and no support for this long?💩 Update - Since the big DVR update was run on 5/20 iOS and Chromecast no longer work! It’s been 10 days! To make things worse if you are using iOS the live chat link does not work so you do not have access to any kind of support. Getting ready to cancel and return to Hulu live. App constantly shuts down and sends error messages when try to cast. The only customer support is live chat which has been unavailable for days.

Edited: The update is horrific! While I was excited to finally have the ability to record shows it now freezes a minimum of 15 times a day. It tells us “the video is having trouble loading” or “check network connection” but we’ve had it checked and checked it ourselves and that’s not the issue, it’s the updated version of this service. It’s horrible. If it isn’t corrected soon we have sadly have to switch. I have loved this service except for the past two days it freezes on my Roku Tv every five minutes, literally. I have to restart the app or it will just come back on in about 60 seconds. It is the most frustrating thing. It is not my internet connection, that has been checked and it streams perfectly fine on my Apple TV! I have deleted the app, reinstalled, logged in and out... EVERYTHING. I’ve tried other streaming services before and did not like them as much as DirectTv Now but if this problem isn’t resolved soon I’ll have to switch.

It’s a good app when it works. It can quit unexpectedly, this happens at least once a day. Then there are times when it loses connection which seems to happen a lot during the evening. I’ve determined it is not my internet connection because other streaming apps work just fine. It is difficult to find support to fix these issues. If it was more stable and reliable it would be a great app.

I have never had an issue, ever. I been a directvnow customer nearly since its launch. Is your internet turned. I would recommend two things. First, test your bandwidth. “Ookla Speed Test” has a website and an Application for this. Then if that checks out, look if your are being throttled or limited on service via your internet provider. “Wehe” is fantastic for detecting limitations imposed on you by your service provider. This has a website and “app” as well. Have a great day!

The app hasn’t worked for me in weeks. I’ve been in contact with directv now and all they tell me is “our programmers are looking into it”. One of the main reasons got this service was the mobile accessibility, well so much for that. I thought spectrum’s customer service was bad, this takes the cake.

I am in my 30 day trial period and like the service but may drop due to content issues. I Got this as my son has had the entry tier $45 package and likes it as he gets most of key cable channels. I had to upgrade from the $50 package to the $70 “max” package as I wanted the golf channel. Once activated, I was disappointed to find that getting AMC is no longer included and that this and requires going to the $93+ package. Live support told me my sons lower end $45 package that includes AMC, is now grandfathered only. They said they are working to address some of thes key channel gaps. I am also missing HGTV. HBO is nice and included as it allowed me to cancel my HBO now account for $15 savings. This effectively covering most of my upgrade to get the golf channel. $70 is a bit pricy to be missing key cable only channels like AMC and HGTV. Upgrading to $93 for next tier is out of the question and opens the door to a lot of better offerings. Currently looking at Sling with sports add on and reactivate my HBO Now account if I don’t see content changes by end of this trial.

Just ordered DirecTV Now today. I like the channel package offered but the app is having technical issues all of over the place, it is terrible. Mid show viewing the the show has buffered saying lost connection, then resets back to the start of the show. This has happened at least 10 times today and this is with full WiFi. Currently watching and voices are completely distorted, I’m not even sure how that happens when the picture is moving at normal speed. Not sure how long this will last if the app is not improved. Update: Cancelled. Piece of Gargabe.

The app works and allows me to view the services I pay for. There needs to be more features added as it is pretty much the only way I can manage my account other than with a web browser. The biggest thing I notice is that the settings I put in place aren’t persistent. For example, when I select to have my video quality be ‘Best’, that doesn’t mean change it to Better or Good upon exiting and returning to the app. There should also be a way to chat with representatives directly from within the app that is built-in instead of a wrapper for a web browser chat session that is disabled with any sort of ad block and/or pop-up blocker installed on iOS.

But over our relationship I came to realize you don’t really care about the impact of your actions. -Totally locked up on the days of the Super Bowl and NCAA tourney final -Frozen apps when I try to switch to screen in screen -Making it unclear whether I have to change passwords in the app, the DirectTV Now website, or at MyATT -Odd error messages that come with black screens of death And then I learned that HuluTV had most of what you had, but an app that works and for 1/3 less? I just have to say goodbye.

I see a lot of bad star reviews about this app and it’s all because people aren’t using it right. I upgraded my internet to be faster so the that the live stream will be able to handle the picture quality. It works great. I own an Appletv and I was able to hardwire the ethernet cable to the modem for a faster stream and it works fine. I enjoy that the guide is in alphabetical order which makes it very easy to find what tv network that your looking for quickly. If you don’t watch a lot of tv and your looking for a cheaper alternative, this is your best bet.

This app is TERRIBLE. Explore other options please, and don’t waste your time. It only deserves 1 star because of the cheap price. I guess you get what you pay for, but wow, the creators of this failed miserably. The sound never works when trying to airdrop my phone to the TV. Just super frustrating, and I will be canceling the service soon, especially before next football season. Thanks but no thanks for the memories. Can’t wait to move on from this app.

Before this app upgraded, I was able to stream to my smart tv with no problems. I know it’s the app because I’m able to stream HBO Now and the TLC app to my tv. Please fix this!!

I chose the 7 day free trial and I have been really loving this service! Although I would love for this service to have TeenNick on the $50 or $70 package other than that! I love it.. I haven’t had any bugs except me seeing New York news instead of news around me! But that’s just because I am using a xfinitywifi hotspot! Other than that everything has been great! Just wish there were a bit more channels on the $50 package! The app works great and online section in google chrome works great too! Not lag, no buffering, no messages saying watch something else.. the only thing there is, is “We’ll be back later” screen.. but I can deal with that.

Have and had this service since Jan 19 and it’s just getting worse. The app won’t play on phone at all, the DVR acts up because I want to fast-forward, the guide times out every time, my recording every other week have an issue where I have to go and watch it on the network’s app, recordings won’t record sometimes, Apple TV app have SO many issues. The best place to watch the service is on my iPad, but consistently have issues with MacBook, iPhone and appletv. AT&T is the worst addition to the Directv service. It’s over priced, lack certain channels, and a very underwhelming app performance. Do not recommend to anyone. Pluto Tv would be cool if it have DVR and local channels...

By far the worse entertainment app ever. Constantly glitches, and always has bugs. The audio on the channels go in and out, DVR recording is never constant. I will set up a recording with space available and it never records it. The worse part honestly is the audio never working for network channels. I’ve reported the issue and was told there is no ETA to resolve the issue. Don’t waste your money on the subscription because the App does not deliver to its descriptions.

I’ve been a loyal customer since the rocky launch of this app. This last update is making me rethink continuing my subscription. I use the app on my Apple TV, iPhone and iPad. Commercials are not volume controlled, and there are blank spots, with a placemark “We’ll be right back.” Especially, given the new price increase. SMH

Now sure why people are complaining about this app so much. I use it daily and aside from some bugs with the recording options everything works well as expected. Some improvement is needed in the recording library, and it would be nice to have more than 20 hours of record time. The user interface is fair and easy to navigate. One feature that is needed is the ability to pause live TV.

The app isn’t good yet, it still has bugs but it definitely works so idk why this guy keeps posting about how it’s a scam and how he can’t even watch a single program ever without freezing and that it crashes. Here is my experience, the app works fine. I stream TV from it every day and I’ve never had a program freeze nor have I ever had a program crash. I am able to watch anything anytime I want and it works good. The only complaints I have is that you still can not cast any recordings to your TV, this is stupid and I don’t understand why you can cast regular live tv and on demand tv but if you record something it tells you that they do not have that feature yet to cast it to your television. Also I have two VIZIO tv’s in my house that have Chromecast built in, it usually pops up and allows me to cast to my tv in my living room although sometimes it won’t recognize it to provide the option of casting. But it never works with my tv in my bedroom, the problem is not the tv because I cast Hulu and HBOgo all the time without any problem but the directv app will never pick up the tv in my bedroom for the option to cast to it. The way I get around this is by opening the directvnow app on my laptop and it works. All in all the app isn’t good yet but it is serviceable and it definitely works fine but not near as good as HULU or Netflix or HBO GO yet, those apps have way better functions and work way better.

Do not do it ! I had this product for 8 months and woke up this morning with a message saying I’m no longer a customer. I believe this happened after I lost my debit card. But it slipped my mind and I never got any billing notice about it. There is no phone support and I went through 4 chat agents before I wanted to explode in a fit of rage. Save yourself the pain and go with a quality steaming service. The next one I sign up for will have phone support

I’ve had DirecTV Now for the last 18 months and have started looking for something else. In the past 6 weeks, this app has become useless I’ve tried, repeatedly to delete and reload it in an attempt to access my subscription on the go. All I can seem to get is the spinning spokes and no help from the company. Absolutely unacceptable given the options on the market. If you decide to cut your cable, look elsewhere for a streaming service.

I’ve read a lot of other reviews and I don’t understand all the hate. I’ve had this service for ~2+ years and love it. For the 1st few months my girlfriend wanted me to cancel DirectTV Now as we also used Xfinity as our main service @ home. But we’d go on 3+ hour road trips and would play DirectTV Now thru the car speakers. The driver wasn’t able to watch the TV of course, just listen. But there are many On Demand programs available that are perfect for car rides. I have AT&T as my cell phone carrier so the data used while using DirectTV Now is free. Then we finally cancelled Xfinity and have used DirectTV Now as our ONLY TV service for the past 9 months and haven’t looked back. The only downside is the DVR is limited to 20 hours. I thought I was going to miss the DVR the most but it actually was a blessing. Because I used to pause live TV so much that I’d turn every hour long program into a 1 1/2 hour program. In fact, I pay an additional $5 a month so I can have 3 streams playing simultaneously. I’ve been waiting to add a 4th simultaneous stream but it’s not available yet. This is needed so people with multiple members in their household are able to use DirectTV Now as a stand-alone service.

This review is based on the AppleTV app. I have had directv now since the beginning of time. Only recently, certain advertisements have an unbelievably elevated volume (louder) relative to the TV program to the point it is startling and unusable. This is such an obvious abuse that I cannot support this company or any company that’s commercial are highlighted this way.

Don’t get it turn away now run run run. We signed up the first night that the golden knights where to play in San Jose. Can’t watch due to “streaming is not allowed to your location” it’s a away game but whatever so 1 1/2 hours after signup we try to cancel. There is no live person what so ever. Called direct tv and was told they can’t help it’s a separate thing. Can’t cancel it’s impossible. The free item we where getting can be canceled and not shipped refund could be given is what we wanted. Nope it’s day 4 now and you can’t cancel or watch regional sports. Ohh and the answer to my regional sports is use there login for the nbcsn app...this does not work FYI no regional sports. Fail fail fail don’t try unless your so desperate that’s it’s the very very very last option. Save yourself and stream from something else. No help in site have screen shots of previous conversation.

Att keeps leading with greed by taking away channels and upping the price. My card was compromised, they cancelled my account, and now if I want to remain a customer I am forced to lose channels and pay 50 more per month. Find a more reliable, and customer conscious service as all channels are the same and providers are what make the difference. Att is struggling in this industry.

This is more about the service than the app. Amazon has better streaming quality. Shows don’t finish. Not a lot of channels at the $40 level. The app crashes too. Logging in is often an adventure. This app and “service” makes it easy to cut the cord and stop TV altogether. Meh.

Much of the info in the negative reviews is out-of-date or in some cases simply inaccurate. In my opinion, DirecTV NOW offers by far the best combination of channels, features, and a simple user experience. I’ve tried several other streaming services, and I always keep returning to this one. Great selection of channels, app sign-in support, On Demand content, DVR, 72 Hour LookBack and the ability to restart many shows, and much more. Seriously give it a try for yourself, and you likely won’t be disappointed.

Update 12/29/2018. Janky. Can view live tv on my iPhone. When I try to watch on my iPad, I’m told that programs (exact same ones I’m watching on my phone) are not available at my location. How is that even remotely possible when I’m using the exact same WiFi connection. Then when I’ve got both my phone and my iPad attempting to view I’m told I have too many streams trying to run at the same time. My package allows two simultaneous streams which are the two I’m trying to use, but nooooo. Guess in spite of what I’m told in the package I’m paying for, I only get one stream. It’s all becoming clear what the operating strategy is...raise the price, diminish the quality of the product/service. Brilliant. Will not allow you to actually watch a movie that is available, and bookmarked. Nice that it’s available but what the heck am I paying for with this service if the only benefit is being able to bookmark a thumbnail graphic of the movie. This is nuts. And now they want to raise the price.

This app is absolute trash. It keeps showing frozen thumbnails of other live tv shows that I’m watching or it’ll freeze on a frame about 4 times when I’m trying to watch either live tv or when I’m trying to watch an episode. It says that it supports multiple devices watching at the same time, but ever since I’ve been watching with my mom, it’s been absolute trash. Either fix all the bugs or change the whole app. I thought Hulu ads were horrible or even YouTube, but this app gives me the same ads every 2 minutes. It’s the worst streaming app ever.

Why do I have to pay for streaming I’m not recieving? Getting message “outside of viewing area” for all channels. Well wonderful, but I’m sure my payment will still be deducted this month. Hi. Ok app has been getting better: Issue is when watching on my iPhone 8plus; A program like “sports center” changes to the the next program with in the 30 mins or hour; I get a gray box that stays on the screen and forces me to go back to the guide to keep watching the same channel. Or, shows me the next program Gif example like what’s shown on the guide. It just stays on the screen. Any way to fix this issue?

This app just works. No complaints. DirecTVNow offers the right channel package for my Family, since we AT&T Wireless costumers we get HBO free. We use iOS devices, Apple TV & Roku Apps. No complaints. Benefit is saving money over Cable, and all HD channels at no extra cost and great quility video.

I have used the DIRECTV NOW app for about a year now and generally it worked pretty well as long as I didn’t count too much on the cloud DVR. I have noticed that I tend to have problems after an app “update”. Recently I started having trouble with the audio dropping out repeatedly so I reinstalled the app, and still it’s happening. Frustrated!

The app worked great for 4 days, then all of a sudden nothing “is available in your area” on the iPad app. The one device that I use for just about everything, and AT&T’s roll out of the upgrade seemed to have broken it. I’ve had the app which I think is still in beta for about 8 months. I’ve switched back and forth to PlayStation vue mainly for NFL redzone. Everything about vue except the price is better. I don’t understand how they don’t just copy. Yeah it’s probably stealing but not if your just getting ideas right? Maybe I don’t get it and also in the 8 months of service I’ve never been asked what I think by them. Vue also works or syncs 100 times better with AppleTV and the Watch Now features.

DVR beta i get but sometimes I record and get a box in the middle of program or screenshot of a different whether I’m recording or watching live happens all the time. Don’t understand why when I’m watching a show from library I have to be subject to 9 to ten adds. That’s silly. Not all channels look good. Not all HD. I pay over 40 bucks and looks horrible. Hulu at least has great pic quality. Let’s go get it fixed.

Clunky interface. Unable to successfully jump forward or backward, video doesn’t resume where you paused or left off. Transitions between programming and commercials not smooth. Commercials come on at random times. Streaming video is choppy - even with good wifi. The app oftentimes chokes or crashes. It feels like a beginner coder created this app. AT&T needs to take lessons from Netflix or Amazon.

Every so often Directv adds their own ads on top of commercials. Every so often screen goes black have to go back to guide and select channel again. No pause live tv or rewind tv. Only 20gb of DVR storage. 3rd stream is $5 and can only have a max of 3 streams. Most importantly I’ve had the wrong local channels for over 2 months now, they keep telling me they working on it but still nothing!! For a huge company like Directv then being bought by an even bigger company ATT this is unacceptable!!! 2 months?? Lacking features?? Really?? Get it together already!!! I bet if I didn’t pay for 2 months my service would be terminated!

While DTVNOW has the cheapest selection, all the issues are not worth the time or the savings. Constant issues with the app crashing or not being able to authenticate my account. I haven’t had the right local channels in seven months. I have to chat with their customer service every week and have them promise me that the issue will be fixed. Surprise! I’ve been using Directv now for about a year now and I’m generally happy. I like the updates, but have two suggestions. I use mostly on AppleTV but sometimes iPhone. 1) Add a “previous channel” shortcut. Especially on AppleTV it is a huge pain to swap back and forth in the guide. It seems like it would be a nobrainer to add this to the one of the menu options, like the guide preview or “watch now” section. 2) Watch the price hikes. I noticed recently that the subscription fee went up. A little more and I would probably cancel and stick with cheaper services that have recently added more sports. I hope you continue to improve and don’t start charging cable prices (I know you’re a cable company, so resist the temptation to be business as usual, the world is changing). If you stay the good course, I’ll stick!

Still can stream on only 1 device at a time - supposed to be 2. Cuts off in the middle of a program (Hannity, for example) and that they have a glitch. Cannot get CBS - said provider not authorized. What, Hawaii 5-0 on the regular network? The only reason I was putting up with this is that they have a Weather channel. When I complain, which is about once a month, they say they are working on it. However nothing changes. Considering how bad this is, one would think they would have more app updates. What to try next?

Apple TV app - horrible integration with airplay 2/HomePod - inconsistent sound/ audio controls from the rest of the Apple TV universe - dvr recording. 20 hours? Seriously. I have been a customer for years and I still cant log into half the things available to me including this app. Customer service is amazingly poor. I don't want to get rid of DirecTV but they’re not giving me much of a choice. You’ve been warned.

I love this streaming service but I bought a new Pro and the screen doesn’t fill the width of my device. I have letterboxing + pillar boxing at the same time. I’ve been patiently waiting while other video apps are rolling out updates to support, I’m hoping the same will happen soon or I’ll start researching streaming alternatives.

I can set the cloud to record one show but it records something else. I can say record this time and this episode but it doesn’t. Please fix this. Also remove the white guide. Who has a white guide? Make the guide more user friendly

When it first came out , two years ago, they had a lot of bugs. But now its works great, costumers service is always nice and helpful . I knew if I stuck with them it would turn into something great. I have not use cable TV in two years 👍🏽👍🏽. I like the fact that I can watch tv anywhere. The tv channel line up is a hell of a lot better than cable

This app is junk. Made for cellular data users. But will only play in HD. No option to set(or capability for the app to automatically adjust) to a lower res, so that it can actually play any content for you when you don’t have over 50 meg speeds, which is what the app requires. Yeah! If your internet isn’t THAT fast or faster, your bombarded with messages about the network underperforming, and, after pages of this same message, worded slightly differently, over and over, then, it just stops. It says “cant play this content at this time.” Just FIX this! Awful!

How can a streaming service have such a terrible app? Freezes most of the time, there is always a lag in response, buffers a lot. Interface is okay, nothing great either. I have used the app on my iPad Pro and also on my Apple TV. Seems to work better with Apple TV then my iPad. Needs serious work before becomes usable.

Numerous times, I’ve had to close the app and restart it in order to get Directv Now to stream. Tonight, I have not been able to watch Live tv for over 4 hours. I keep getting an error code saying I don’t have internet service which I do. I have followed the suggestion of deleting and loading the app again; I did. But, I still had no luck. And, they don’t offer phone support. There’s also a problem with recoding. For instance, I have tried to record current episodes of Judge Judy on Fox. However, the system records episodes from 2015 on channel 20. On top of that, the episodes are titled with the current episodes from a Fox 26. On MTV, it tells me that it is recording my show, but it’s actually the show that comes on after it. This is unacceptable. I had Directv for 9 years and switch to Directv Now last month. I’m now thinking of trying Xfinity or Dish.

I'll keep it short. I have AT&T and they give me free HBO via this app. Well the content listed is not entirely what HBO offers and I find that really awful. For instance I'm watching all of The Sopranos and there are many missing episodes that completely destroy the series and you're lost on what is happening. When searching movies not all are listed. I compared to my cable on demand menu and it's like 2/3 of it. It's 2018. Get it together folks

Whenever I try to watch local channels from my Firestick, I have to wait for a long time to see them. For example, tonight’s Football Night in America NEVER loaded after 2 hours. Just teased me with screenshots every 10 minutes. I finally gave up.

Things go bad every other month, can reach to tech support only via chat, sometimes it crashes and can’t get a hold of anyone in now way. It crashed on me way to many times. Run as far as you can from this service

First, when I signed up for this service, I was not given the full disclosure ie; cannot speak to a live agent, if you need help you have to go online, none of the channels I requested were on my lineup, daily programming is not available until the next day or hours after the program has aired. These are just a few of the many problems I have incurred! Being a senior citizen who has physical limitations, online chatting communication is not feasible! Each time I chatted with an agent, I was either disconnected or given misinformation. In short, I would not recommend this service to anyone. I am switching back to ATT U Verse immediately!!!

Tried out the app for 6 months, I feel like an idiot for not cancelling sooner. The app constantly closed out, had issues playing shows, was missing tons of content, had multiple outages, and to top it off, the price increased! I chatted with customer service 6 times (would have been 1,000 times if I reported all the issues) and each time I wasted an hour or more. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

Haven’t had any issues using a chromecast, TCL Roku TV and an a Amazon fire stick, and iPhone devices. I have DSL with 3.0 mb internet. I know I’m going to get buffering. Other then a few buffering it’s been a seamless experience.

This is one of the poorest performing apps in the App Store. Rarely does it work when opened for the first time. It requires multiple force closes and re-openings to get the app to load properly. I would expect more from AT&T and DIRECTV

It’s a clunky app that’s will leave you thinking how much better the app could flow. User interaction is a poor experience. It’s glitchy and goes to a black screen often, requiring a restart of the app. DVR is broken. It records things we don’t want, won’t record things we want at times, and when recording movies it’ll only record 30 minutes. You can’t extend recording to account for sporting events so it’s useless if you want to get the entirety of the game if it goes a little long. It’s an incredibly poor experience.

Signal keeps dropping. Now I hear they spent billions on another company and are going to raise prices. For what? Current customers seem to not matter and they keep having issues with restarting movies or shows. Also not all stations have access for DIRECTV now subscribers in their apps. Just all around bad, not Hulu bad, yet. New fun is it randomly stalls at 10pm, no authorizes content and won’t work for hours. Yet they raised prices but cannot actually provide the service. I’d gladly dump all the sports and some other stations and pay them $20, that’s what it is worth.

I have been using DirecTV Now for seven months now, and overall I’m mostly pleased with the experience. As long as I have a strong network connection, I have been able to watch my shows from pretty much anywhere. I was frustrated with the app experience for Verizon FiOs because I couldn’t watch shows in the app while they were still recording and some networks such as Fox I could only watch recorded shows at home on my cable box. I became frustrated with the restrictions and yearly price increases of cable and decided to try DirecTV Now after months of consideration. The Apple TV offer was also pretty persuasive. 😁 I’m a big TV person and have been for most of my life. DirecTV Now has allowed me to cut the cord without feeling like I have to make sacrifices. I get all of the channels I need with the Live A Little package, and I like that DVR is available, even if it’s limited to 20 hours. I hope they expand the number of hours without charging extra in the future. DVR is good but sometimes I have issues where I only want to record new episodes but all episodes for a show record instead. Also, for some shows that air M-F, I have to set the recording everyday as it doesn’t automatically record new episodes as expected. Besides that though, DVR works well and I like that I am still able to fast forward through commercials. Additionally, I have access to all of my favorite sports channels and the games are clear when watching live. I think DirecTV is one of the few services to offer NFL Network. I haven’t tried it but the Sunday Ticket package is available in select major cities. I also like that they offer Viacom (CBS, MTV, BET, etc) channels as well. Also, I love that HBO is only $5 per month! As for the navigation experience on the Apple TV, it definitely takes some getting used too but is not too complicated overall. When fast forwarding, you have to pause first and scroll ahead unless you want skip in 15 second increments. Sometimes the option to skip ahead 15 seconds disappears and you can only pause to fast forward which can be annoying when it occurs. Also, the “Watch Now” section adapts to what you watch over time and after awhile will show you the stations that it thinks you are most interested in. I saved all of my favorite channels in the guide and use it to view the schedule. It is in alphabetical order so I like that I don’t have to remember channel numbers. “My Library” is where your DVR shows are located and “Bookmarks” is to watch your favorite shows on demand. I haven’t used the “Discover” tab. 🤷🏽♂️ The only other downside to the app is that not all of the local stations have a contract with The CW so I have to watch those shows on demand or use the CW app which is free and actually doesn’t require a TV subscription. With respect to the TV apps, I love the Apple TV app! I also like the redesigned app on the Fire Stick and the iPhone and iPad apps work well. You have access to the individual TV apps just in case you get behind on DVR, so I have been able to keep up with my favorite shows pretty well. I have all of my local stations as well except for the CW as I mentioned previously. Only two streams are included in your subscription so it caters to singles and couples instead of families. You can add a third stream for $5 but I feel like it should be included. My package increased in price by $5 dollars in September so my only major concern is that the price will continue to increase here and there until it is no longer cheaper than a cable subscription. I can definitely say I am pleased with my overall experience with DirecTV Now and highly recommend it to TV junkies exacerbated by ever increasing cable prices. I have cut the cord, don’t feel like I’m missing anything, and have no plans to return to cable. I saved about $85 on my cable bill when I switched! 🤑

Ok it’s AT&T, I cannot recall ever having a good experience with AT&T. Why pay $40 per month for basic tv streaming that you can only stream on two TVs with when you can pay $50 for Hulu and watch on unlimited screens and I can even take it with me.

The idea seemed to good to be true. I tried to cast from iPhone 10s and come to find out there is no sound when casting. I tried to fix and troubleshoot but no sound. Apparently this has been an ongoing issue. Directv now needs fix the sound issue ASAP!

This app, along with many others needs updating. The app fails to fill the screen on my new 11 inch iPad Pro. Also, I need an audio only option. Free streaming with ATT is great when it works. When bandwidth is low it would be nice to still listen to broadcasts.

My experience with AT&T has been nothing but horrible through this experience. I’ve used them for TV and internet, and when my rates bumped up they pushed me hard to Directtv now steaming service (ie 2.5ish hours on the phone). Once I subscribed I couldn’t get anything to work but on my (new) iphone. My Smart tv, Firestick tv or Apple TV couldn’t find the app (all are 2-3 years old, so not new, but not that old). Once I got the new Roku it took 25min plus to “load”, and then it kept saying my service (the “best” ATT has) couldn’t steam basically at all. To the point it’s 100% completely unusable. Even though I can stream on other devices fine. And then another loooong consumer care chat later and even 4 days in they’ll only refund half the dollars and aren’t standing behind their product at all. Horrible

When I first got direct tv now over a year ago the app needed some work but there have been some major improvements in just one year and I am looking forward to see how much better they make this app in the future. An online dvr and this app works with roku, any of my tablets, my phone, and works very well with my Apple TV. Where was this app 20 years ago? Keep up the good work AT&T.

There are several things this app and program lacks compared to YouTube TV and Hulu TV. 1. The app frequently loses WiFi signal while other apps on my Apple TV have zero interruptions with my dual broadband WiFi connection (via AT&T funny enough). It’s very frustrating when having to quit out of this app and reopen it and miss what I’m paying for. Unreliable. 2. A DVR with the inability to rewind live TV. Competitors win in this area also. 3. The process to get back to the previously watched channel is cumbersome compared to the competition. Another loss. The main frustration is the loss of connectivity when my WiFi is clearly functioning. I will be discontinuing service at the end of the one month mark and going back to YouTube TV.

This app was alright, had bugs here and there and then now they added more ads than there used to be and it’s just total sh*t. You pay for a service and you still get ads, let’s say you didn’t finish a movie and want to pick up where you left off, well before you get to do that you have to watch all the ads that would’ve came up if you had watched it from the beginning (200+ seconds worth). So dumb and the developers ain’t gonna do crap cuz they honestly don’t care. Don’t waste your time, if you got a subscription please cancel not worth it.

( 1 ) Records videos you did not request. ( 2 ) Does not always place your recordings in your folder. I leaves some shows in your bookmarks. ( 3 ) starts shows over again and glitches bad if you stream to Apple TV from iPad or iPhone on newest IOS. ( 4 ) Some shows get glitches with commercials and start over and then you can not fast forward. So, not watching that over again. ( 5 ) Several shows are not set-up to record. Update: FIX YOUR APP. The program changes while I’m watching something, even if it’s something in my bookmarks. The sound cuts out a lot. The captions sometimes disappear or are out of order. The app overall is terrible and it glitches.

I had this service for about 4 weeks only. I never got to watch anything on my TV, my iPad and always gave me issues on my iPhone too. I paid the first month and I tried to call to cancel the service but they don’t even have a costumer service number. I called AT&T and they told me they couldn’t help me that I had to go on their app and go to Chat to solve the issue. Well I did not once but 3 times until I finally got it “CANCEL”. Here I am thinking that it was canceled all these months to find out that they were still charging me for a service that I canceled and that I’ve never ever used.

I spent probably an hour and a half in 3 separate chats with DirecTV Now support. The problem was that I couldn’t watch DirecTV Now because of “too many streams”. It turns out that logging off on your device doesn’t log you off the DirecTV Now network. My wife and I had to uninstall the app from every device that had the app then reinstall on 2 devices to get things working. This is a new problem which is probably tied to some “improvement”.

Constant buffering on Apple TV, freezes up then totally blanks out, when it finally comes back it is not back where left off. Don’t even bother trying to fast forward or it’s even worse. Watching on iPhone X is better but constantly superimposes a blank grey screen or a picture of the program showing on live TV. Only keeping the subscription because it doesn’t use my data

This service is terrible. I have been trying to cancelled for months. Difficult to contact a live person. Months went by and they keep billing my credit card and I never used the service. They finally credit my credit card but only for 2 months vs the 4 months

This streaming service is pretty much an afterthought. It’s poorly organized, and unless you’re just streaming live it’s proven to be pretty worthless. All the on demand content is so buggy it’s barely watchable if at all. The issues we’re experiencing are across all devices and platforms, not just Apple. Customer support just tells you what you want to hear to shut you up but nothing gets fixed and we have them MONTHS. Hey DirecTV, thanks for reminding us why we left in the first place! You’re still a second rate service.

"We're sorry for the inconvenience please try again later". Do the developers ever use the app? I'm guessing not because if so they might fix the bugs. The one above happens all too often with recorded shows. "Season" records often just stop recording etc. Likewise, after recent updates, picture in picture stopped working on the iPad. The app keeps getting worse. Likewise, recordings expire! What kind of genius thinks having a DVR where recordings expire is a good idea? The only good thing is if you are an at&t subscriber you can stream without using your data. I've been using the service quite a while and am close to canceling because it is unreliable and if it doesn't work, there is no point.

I haven't had a watching session that hasn't had a frozen screen with sound, a crash, a "you're not in the right region" type message. Usually a combination of these and not just one. I was also an early adopter and told I would get a price for the life of the service just to have it raised right before all this buggy garbage started.

While trying to watch a series (American Horror Story and Mayans) that I missed during normal air time. The shows will cut off when a new show starts on current air time. If I start watching an episode at say 2:45, at 3:00 my show will stop and switch to the show that’s just coming on. I will cancel my subscription until this is resolved.

For whatever reason trying to use this app is like pulling teeth. The app constantly pauses and cant buffer. So if you want to watch using the app you have to constantly press play over and over again. If this is your only means to use Directv Now I would look elsewhere or it will be a bid waste of your money.

This problem has been going on for several months and I cannot believe there have not been a mass reporting of said problem. Example: I’m watching an Investigation Discovery show from on-demand selections (Grave Secrets, Season 1, Episode 2). I start the episode at 15 minutes before the top of the hour and 15 minutes into the episode the audio continues, but the video is a thumbnail of what just started on live TV. This happens on every show I’ve tried to watch on ID. I thought it might be an ID channel issue but I was watching a show I recorded (Mr. Mercedes - S2, E2), the same thing happened when a new show started on live tv. I’m tired of chatting with customer service. I was once hopeful of improvements, no longer. We subscribed to Netflix today and so far it has worked flawlessly. I really enjoy the ID documentaries, but I won’t die without them.

I stream on line, I have an Apple TV, Roku & an Amazon Firestick so naturally I wanted to try DirectvNOW. It took some getting use to but after a couple of days I was getting better maneuvering. I love that it has a DVR feature AND bookmarking a show is genius! Only issue I have is when recording a show, sometimes the audio is ahead or behind which will force me to use the channel app where fast forward is not available. I’m enjoying the app and I’m sure that it’s just going to get better!

Way too many much buffering. Doesn’t matter what your watching. There is one minute of programmers mag and many more many mutes of buffering. And then in the middle of what ever you’re watching it goes off and ask if you are still there. Then it shuts down in the middle of what you are watching. A big waste of money. And this is a company owned by AT&T.

Your company has now given me 2 additional user ID EMAILS to log in with, both of which I did. It create not was I informed that they were created. First with the first email I used my system simply rebooted and kept saying I had the wrong password/ID combo. So I tried resetting my password. Only to have it still not work. I had to get locked out of my account after “too many files sign-ins” and use the forgot user ID to learn that you had created a new @att.net login for me. Then that login failed, so you created a new one based off of my secondary email linked to my att mobile plan and the same process resurfaced. I now have 4 emails accociated with my account. 1 for my mobile, 1 for DirectTVNOW and the two you magically created for me. At any given time only one of them will work. I cannot tell you the hours I have spent, resetting passwords and trying to figure out which user ID is going to work.....your system is truly terrible and extremely stressful to deal with and operate. Not to mention the lag time in your app and the constant rebooting. I’ve just about had enough! One more failed login or user name created on your behalf and I’ll gladly pay double elsewhere for better quality.

As other have mentioned in their review, the DVR option for this is still in beta. However, I was under her impression that beta means they eventually start to get better. Considering that a lot of what I like to watch occurs while I’m either at work or asleep, DVR is my biggest issue. I had this app for several months and it feels like they actually went backwards in terms of quality. Whereas before there was a timing issue (started a few minutes too early or too late), now it just straight up forgets to record at all. I had shows scheduled to record late at night (I even double checked several times to make sure they were in the upcoming recording queue). DVR never recorded them. This has happened several times. DVR also has cap on how many episodes you can record for a show, regardless of how many free hours of space you have. So even though I have 11 hours of space free, I can only get a maximum of 7 episodes of any 1 show before DVR starts erasing them without prompting. Really starting to regret getting rid of cable.

The channel line up is the best, in my opinion, compared to the competition... BUT... sometimes the dvr doesn’t record scheduled programs and right now my dvr and the “demand” programs aren’t working at all! They raised the price $5 and added a bunch of crap that I don’t even use! And the buffering is ridiculous!! And it’s not my internet service or my devices! You can’t even fast forward a show and not have it buffer and eventually just stop playing! I would be all day if I tried to thoroughly review this app! Good concept poor execution and they clearly DO NOT CARE because they’ve fixed nothing! I’ll probably try Sling which may not have as many channels but it’s much cheaper and i hear it actually works! This app should be much cheaper with all the glitches it has! Also... the app is not available on XBOX One!

The voice and video while streaming has not been sync for about 2 months. When on WiFi the synchronization has improved but at times is still off. I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling. Switched over to Verizon from att and still having the same issue.

More shows work and load. However, with some movies and shows, there are so many commercials and they’re long commercials. Sometimes the app won’t save your spot so if you try to move the bar, you’re watching a long commercial to even see if you’re back at the same spot. It also won’t read my firestick like Netflix will. Many times it’ll cut the show off until your click retry a lot, and inevitably end up in a commercial again.

Where do I start?? First of all, I called and spoke to a representative with the mobile service and inquired into anything I could purchase in order to be able to watch my favorite tv shows while deployed out of the country. She sold me this service and charged me over $70 for initial set up. Upon my arrival out of the county ( a mere 4 days later), I could not watch it so I looked for a support phone number I could contact. My first frustration was noticing that there is not live support for this service. You can only text chat with a robot or person which took forever to explain my problems despite having a USA VPN downloaded on my device. After 2 hours of texting back and forth, I was told nothing could be done and furthermore that there aren’t any refunds!!! I called my bank to report this and will hopefully have the payment reversed. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS SERVICE!!!

Typical AT&T operation. One of the biggest companies in the world—-everyone is going to steaming and they have a far below average app that blames poor internet. Directtvnow has the best channel lineup and good deals on channel additions but it’s reliability is awful. Compared to Sling and YouTube TV—it’s a joke and they know it. Yet they do nothing. A million reviews on here saying it’s terrible for over a year and no changes.

There are so many bugs, especially with fast forwarding or rewinding DVR and ondemand it’s almost unusable on Apple TV. The Apple Remote design in itself doesn’t help. But as soon as you try to remind or fast-forward anything, it will randomly skip back to a random point in the show if not the beginning. That really takes away the point of the DVR. Some of the episode descriptions are in Spanish even though the episode is in English. Overall, they need to really work out the kinks. I hope they do soon or I’ll be checking out other services.

First, it’s a terrible service. Impossible to watch live sports. Constantly freezes, & then just jumps ahead. Trying to flip between programs? Channels are not assigned numbers so you have to go through the entire guide every time, & it takes about 30 seconds to load after you’ve selected a channel. And just in case you like to record shows the DVR crashes the program regularly. I signed up almost immediately when the program first came out with the offer “$35/month for life”. I accepted you get what you pay for & dealt with the poor service. Then after almost 2 years, they raised my bill without any notification. Since there is no customer service number, I chatted with a rep who first told me I was wrong, the offer was $25 off the premium cost for life, then admitted it was advertised as “$35/month for life”, but they would definitively NOT honor their actual offer because they were rolling out some great upgrades that somehow cost them more. No upgrades came, nor is that relevant to the lying; offering one thing & then changing that to another. I asked to speak to someone who could give me a more satisfactory response, & they refused. The rep said management can’t even make those decisions so there was no point talking to them. Even if the service were great, they would not get anymore of my money after that. Luckily for me the service is almost as bad as their ethics.

My husband and I made the switch to Direct Now when our cable provider told us our bill was going to be almost $200. We had an Amazons Fire stock so we figured we would give Direct Now a shot and boy am I glad we did! Not only is it cost effective but you get everything you want, including DVR! We have had zero streaming issues and zero recording issues. My only gripe about it is that when you’re fast forwarding, you can’t see the picture so you have to guess when to stop. It’s a pain in the butt but the DVR function is still in BETA mode. Overall, I am very happy we made the switch and I can’t see us ever going back to cable.

The app itself is not easy to navigate. I have found that searching for a show doesn't mean you will always find it. The best way to find a show is to go through the network, then scroll through all the shows until you find what you are looking for. This is very annoying. I recommend that once you find the show you've been looi g for that you bookmark it or save it to your watch list... In addition, they seem to have key episodes of shows missing. For instance I wanted to start a new series but episodes 1-4 were not listed... Lastly, they cut shows off pretty regularly. I was watch The Mayans and was about 5 episodes in. I just went to watch it and it's no longer offered. If it is, I can't find it through searching key words or through the network. Have never really like the app, very finicky.

The things that I don’t like about DIRECTV NOW is if you have a problem you cannot call anyone to get any help you have to go online and it’s hard to get online if you don’t know how to go about doing it to get them to even answer the questions they should have a one 800 number that you called but they don’t and a lot of the programs at certain times or blanked out on mine I don’t even get a chance to view all of my stations and the problem has not been sold yet so I gave it 2 rating maybe they’re at work the bugs out

The chat customer service is a nightmare. Every time I have a problem( which is more than I should) I’m put in touch with a customer service representative who promises me that it’s their priority to take care of my problem and then they promise me that they will follow through until this problem is fixed! I’ve been told on three different calls that they will follow up with a call or text to me to update me on the issues. NO ONE HAS EVER FOLLOWED UP OR CALLED/TEXT ME.

My family uses directv now, to stream live television. This option made more sense for us because of the rising costs of “cable” television. However, I may make the switch back to cable, because we constantly experience playback/loading issues. This is highly frustrating, especially during those times when you are watching a great show, and programming takes forever to load or just completely stops!

This app is the worst on the iPhone. It constantly freezes. For a 30 minute program you may have to restart the app three or more times. If it happens to be a show that doesn’t allow fast forwarding, if you really want to watch it, you’re going to have to watch the whole thing again to watch the last seven minutes. I’ve missed the last four minutes of every episode of Dirty John because it’s an hour long show and it freezes every single time at the end and I’m not gonna rewatch the whole thing just to see the last four minutes. It’s not so bad when you’re watching movies because you can always restart the app and fast forward to the part that it frozen. There is tons of room for improvement for this app. I will say on the smart TV or using a Roku streaming stick it does all right. However, on the iPhone or iPad it’s just the worst.

I have a new Samsung Smart tv and Direct TV Now does not have sound on some of the channels. Fox for one, and some other random stations. In other words I never know which channel will not have sound, but FOX never has it. Picture quality is good. Some buffering at times. Have to restart direct tv now AP when this happens

I have both ATT cell and DirecTV. I contracted for DirecTV NOW, which I was told did not use my data, BUT IT DOES!!! I’ve called and called, gone by ATT Store numerous times and no one can correct the problem. Therefore, I cancelled service effective this billing period. This has been quite a disappointment, considering how my money they spend on advertising telling consumers how GREAT THEY ARE! On a scale of 1 to 10, ATT/DirecTV get a -5. So sad!

After adding the STARZ add-on I am able watch STARZ Encore live, but cannot stream STARZ ENCORE on-demand programming. When selecting STARZ ENCORE under Networks, any on-demand title says a subscription is required. It is unclear why the STARZ add-on allows for ENCORE live but doesn’t seem to work when selecting on-demand programming.

Update 12/31/2018. If I could give zero stars, that would be the rating. Back to not working again. Ridiculous. Had another live chat last night and was assured they would fix the problem. We’ll see. Update 12/30/2018. Participated in a live chat with a human being instead of an automated “agent.” After describing the issue I was told that the agent “refreshed” my account. The problem with my iPad, described below, was resolved AND I was able to have two simultaneous streams. Problem appears to be resolved for now. That said, I am giving only 3 stars because from my perspective, if my problem only needed a “refresh” of my account, I have to wonder why “refreshing” is not an automatic process by DirecTV Now behind the scenes, to avoid lousy customer experience and horrible reviews in the App Store. Update 12/29/2018. Janky. Can view live tv on my iPhone. When I try to watch on my iPad, I’m told that programs (exact same ones I’m watching on my phone) are not available at my location. How is that even remotely possible when I’m using the exact same WiFi connection. Then when I’ve got both my phone and my iPad attempting to view I’m told I have too many streams trying to run at the same time. My package allows two simultaneous streams which are the two I’m trying to use, but nooooo. Guess in spite of what I’m told in the package I’m paying for, I only get one stream. It’s all becoming clear what the operating strategy is...raise the price, diminish the quality of the product/service. Brilliant. Will not allow you to actually watch a movie that is available, and bookmarked. Nice that it’s available but what the heck am I paying for with this service if the only benefit is being able to bookmark a thumbnail graphic of the movie. This is nuts. And now they want to raise the price.

I could not log in nor create an account on Mac or iOS. Broke out the dell and got all signed up. Instantly they hit my credit card for 20 bucks. No 7 day free trial. I wanted this mainly for velocity tv. Guess what. Tech support says it’s there just can’t access from MacBook, iPhone or Apple TV. (All 2018 models)

This app, like the service it supports, is so full of bugs it is barely usable. It takes 10 seconds to skip forward 15 seconds. Of all the streaming apps I use this one makes me cringe every time I need to open it up. Over the last year that I have been a user nothing has improved. The DVR function is fully unusable as most of the time the recording is corrupted in some fashion and large blocks of the recording will freeze the app or just skip over. How useful is a DVR app that can’t record a full show? Not very. This type of behavior was almost understandable when the service was new but with no improvements over a 14 month period my patience is gone.

There is a blank screen or also a still image of a show covering the video underneath. The audio continues to play along. A person has to go back to the “watch now” section and reload the program. This problem seems to happen at the top of every hour. Another problem pertains to multitasking. If you are watching something and leave to another app and then come back to continue watching your show the screen will show that the program is loading but will not load.

I have tried few non cable providers ( Hulu, youtubetv, vue, sling) and I have to say this one is least stable. It feels like off shore developers developed this product with very little quality control testing and the big executives in USA just wanted a product to compete with the likes of sling, vue etc! THEY SHOULD BE FIRED!!! If they cared even a bit they would take some time and scroll through all the reviews, they quickly will realize how dissatisfied customers are and how sub-par their product is. I do have to say the price is nice, programming in the package is very good BUT THAT'S IT! Now to the main issues... 1) Dvr recording does not work ( tech support claims any new customer is not able to dvr until it's fixed, it's been a month and still not solution) 2) Included streaming only 2 devices is a joke 3) quite often system locks up, gets random screen errors. These are unstable system errors and not internet speed related as I have fastest available comcast service in Chicago land. More testing needs to be done. As for interface... 1) Not able to sort channels ( like on you tubetv), instead channels are listed in alphabetical order, so if I want to watch USA, TNT,TBS, user has lots of scrolling to do 2) No profile users, so I can display what I like Thanks

I give it a 2 star because I’m taking into account of the price and money I save verses cable. The DvR function records random shows I have no interest in and that haven’t been on in decades. It doesn’t record all the shows I set up so it’s hit and miss definitely not reliable. The regular TV sometimes has Fox network and sometimes doesn’t limiting local news and shows. The stations just change randomly while you’re watching a show. It sometimes just shuts off during shows. There’s no pause or rewind option on live Tv. The concept of this App is great they just need to work through the bugs. You get what you pay for.

The app is very glitchy but that’s not the biggest issue. I switched from Directv to Directv now and would not have done so if I would have known I would not get local channels. So now no local channels, no playoff football and likely no super bowl. Are you kidding? How can you advertise CBS, NBC and ABC while signing up for the service and then not have it available? Very disappointing!

There is always some screen lock or gray screen that blocks the video. I've yet to finish any show without issues.

I am trying the 7-day free trail and the app crashes 7 out 10 times when I use the search bar to find shows.

Since your last update the information from Directv Now is missing on Apple Watch & iOS “Now Playing”. The program info and the possibility to play/pause & volume control used to be available through control center & Apple Watch “Now Playing” until your last update. Could you please bring it back? It’s extremely handy & absolutely needed specially for Apple Watch. Thanks,
