I always found reading to be boring and good to fall asleep. However, is so important to read this how we can learn new things and expand our knowledge. I learn through audio and video much better, than just reading to myself. This app is a killer cause I just put a pdf and it helps me reading it through with highlighted text and clear voice that helps me remain focused and retain what is in either a document or a book. I purchased a couple good voices and is so worth. In the future robotic voices will be even better.

This is one of a handful of apps that I use in my daily life. I love to read books/articles/etc. But I don’t have the time with work and kids. This allows me to “read”-listen during my commute and other times. Works great with the app Pocket. I use it with DRM-free books all the time also, which I store in Onedrive then us the “open in other app” to bring it into VoiceDream when I want them. While it isn’t up to audiobook quality, the voice “Sharon” is pretty easy to listen to. You can customize the speed of the reading to find what you like. Most of the pronunciation is well, though you’re going to get some odd ones sometimes. It is even getting pretty decent with abbreviations. Overall a great app. I’ve been using it for years.

I rarely write reviews, but this is my favorite iPhone app. With its terrific free voices and the option of adding premium voices, it reads my books and PDFs almost perfectly. Well worth twice the price!

Awesome app. Love the voice selection and syncs progress across multiple devices. Extensions such as Pocket work nicely, saving web page articles to voice dream reader is excellent as well. Definitely helps me focus and progress through a book or article. My mind tends to wander otherwise.

I picked up this app years ago and it’s worth every penny. I can only guess as to how many classmates, colleagues, friends and relatives I’ve told about this app, but it’s somewhere around 100. It is much better than the built in iOS accessibility text to voice option. If you’re an auditory learner, this app is a must have. It allows me to listen to news articles and academic journals while doing other things which boosts productivity. I now also listen to long-form journalism articles that I would otherwise never read.
Dereck D's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 6/4/18 5:37 PM
I’ve been using is for some years now, it replaced brutally expensive amazon’s audible books. I upload pdf’s, txt’s, doc’s to a folder on my website and when I want to read another book, I just tap the name and it gets it. I’m using the voices of Sharon and Paul. This awesome app helped me read hundreds of books during rush hour drive, while working and resting. It remembers position for later, it has adjustable speed and now the new version even removes long headers and footers from PDF’s. I bought it for some $20 or so (plus voices) and now it’s much less and a must have for people who don’t want to spend $20-30 per book on audible. It’s the best app I have on my phone. I can’t believe that someone would give it less than 5 stars. Also, there is a fast support, I’ve asked questions and got emails within a few hours.

I’ve always loved this app because it is WAY more affordable (and versatile) than an audible subscription and the voice selection is great (check out UK Amy), but it just got even better with the most recent update. The ability to intelligently skip margin notes until the end of a pdf page is just what this app needed to go from amazing to practically perfect. Thanks!!!

My son and I are both disabled and use Bookshare. This is by far the best text-to-speech app there is. It is so user friendly that my developmentally disabled son can navigate it well and I love that you can buy the voices you want for it! Don't waste your money on the other well known text-to-speech app. Get this one! This app also just gets better and better with each update. The developer really cares and spends a lot of time improving it.

This application is and entrepreneurs dream! I use this application to spell check and proofread my own work, listen to articles and information from the Internet, and listen to PDF books, Word documents, and a variety of other text documents with different file formats. There is very rarely a day when this application is not opened and used multiple times. Thanks voice dream reader team for such an excellent app! I've been with you for probably about six years now and it just keeps getting better.

RE: June 2018 update: Wow. The new update is amazing. I’ve been using this app for over two years and it is clear to me that the developers have natural love for reading just as I and other users do. Each update is a natural extension of my private wishlist for this app. Many thanks for making reading so much more awesome. The PDF editing and exporting feature is so useful I am in Iove with it. I'm an MD-PhD student and this app is invaluable in learning medicine. You can listen and read along on the screen which reinforces memorization. Fantastic. I hope for a MacOS version one day.

This application has become a real lifesaver for me and my family. Unfortunately my father is in the process of losing his eyesight, and as a voracious reader not being able to keep up on current events and articles of interest severely depressed him. Using this application and iCloud sync, I am able to tee up a wide range of news articles on a daily basis as well as a variety of other text based materials, including even emails from the grandkids and his friends - All from my own phone sent to his iPad (we share an iCloud account.) To the developer, thank you! Returning his ability to “read” and keep up with the world has made a dramatic impact on his health and happiness. A few small requests include: - Would you consider an option that increases the button sizes and or simplifies the interface? Some applications might refer to this as ‘driving mode’ or ‘large icon’ mode? - My dad uses a number of other applications for those with diminishing eyesight, and many of those applications have him using the iPad in landscape mode. So the potential of rotating the app might allow for a simple UI transformation to bigger buttons or what not. - Using this application has both my wife and I hooked on using it as well, but for different reasons and mostly for our commute time. All of us have vastly different reading material preferences. If there was a way to create playlists in iCloud sync, so my dad could get his geology material without my aviation journals interfering would be a wonderful addition. - Lastly, if there was a way to get the app to ignore URL links, that would be huge. Many of the news stories and journal articles have links that don’t look large on screen, but when read out can go on and on and on. Thanks again!

I read on an iPad Mini 2 and an iPhone 6+ using iCloud to sync them. The update works fine on the iPad Mini 2, but on the iPhone 6+ the text that is highlighted is several lines back from what is being read aloud. Completely unusable. Hopefully it can be fixed in an update and I will put it at 5 stars.

I like how accessible your app is. I've been using it for ages now. Hahaha. I was wondering, is there any way you all could add a search and replace feature that can be used while editing a document? Also, I've noticed a couple of bugs with the way certain things are pronounced with the Kendra voice that wasn't there during other updates. Otherwise, it's awesome! I mostly use it for Bookshare books. Thanks for the app.

I use VoiceDream all the time when I’m commuting or just taking walks. It is an amazing app. Yes, it is essentially a text to speech app, but it does things that no other apps come close. First and foremost, it correctly parses the double column structure of most academic pdfs and reads them in the correct order. Second, the new skip citation function is really convenient (although it overshoots by skipping statistical results too often). Third, the voices that one can buy is of way better quality than the ones included in iOS. Love this app!
gedeyenite's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 5/30/18 5:52 PM
This is an excellent update. I immediately noticed the improved margin recognition and scrolling function. If you pinch to zoom so the side margins fit the size of your iPad screen, the app auto scrolls to adjust. It even moves the pages to adapt if the margin increases or decreases within the text. If you bring up the OSD (e.g., gray progress bar, etc.) the scrolling automatically compensates. This makes reading on a treadmill almost 95% hands off. Previously I had to pinch and zoom every page or two to adjust. I’ll add more if and when I discover more goodness. Only downfall is this comes in the penultimate week of my year-long reading-heavy school! Could hav equaled this last July. I guess I’ll have to start another grad school. 🤔

As an avid reader of fan fiction, I would often find hours have passed while nose is buried in my phone. My kids would often hear “as soon as I finish this chapter.” This app had allowed me to go about my day, get things done, and still enjoy my stories. I can pause it and pick right back up at a moment. I use it every day and think the cost was well worth it. Thank you!

I've had this app for years and have it on multiple devices. As someone who absolutely hates when humans read books (strange emphasis, too much emotion, incorrect pronunciation), this app has saved my reading life. All of my ebooks are pushed through this app and are near constantly playing as background noise. I've bought a couple different voices, and it's well worth it, in my opinion. You can teach the program how to pronounce names or fantasy words not in its lexicon already, which is indispensable for big sci-fi and fantasy readers. The text color, size, and font can be customized for easier reading, and the background can be altered as well. It's an incredible app and if this was around when I was in school, I'd have no problem 'reading' the required material as I got ready in the morning.

Using iOS to read books aloud is problematic, but Voice Dream offers a solution. The voices are notably better than iOS and transferring books from one format to another takes only seconds. Is it as good as a natural human voice? No, not really. Is it adequate for reading aloud? Surprisingly, yes. This application is especially useful if the source material contains foreign or unfamiliar vocabulary. Is Voice Dream worth nearly $20? It’s certainly easy to use, and makes reading text much more pleasant than the iOS alternatives. I’d say, “yes, definitely.”

There’ve been very few issues, and support has been extremely responsive and effective. Recommended without reservation.

1. 👉 Ability to import a pdf and additional settings to only read the highlights, or bold parts, or both. I think students would really use this 🙌 2. Some real granular settings like ability to only read the first and last sentences of all paragraphs. This would be a way to quickly review a book, decide if you want to read a book fully, or decide to stop on that section and read it closer. 🏆 3. Setting to ignore text like footers 4. Ability to change the icon so it pops out more The first two I would LOVE to see. Please consider the possibilities.

I understand that Siri reads selections too; however, Voice Dream’s voice options sound more natural to me. I truly would recommend this app to any business professional or person who struggles to stay focused with reading task.
bluecansam's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 5/18/18 11:30 AM
Any negative reviews this app gets is usually due to the developer changing the layout or removing an outdated, obsolete feature, which are emotional reactions to change. Objectively, there are computer programs that do all the same things this app does, and does it better, but that is an unfair comparison. When contrasting this app to its peers here on the app store, there is nothing quite like Voice Dream Reader. I can't imagine ever using any of the alternatives. If, for whatever reason, the developer stops supporting the app, and iOS and iPhones upgrade to the point where VDR would no longer work, I wouldn't upgrade my phone or operating system, hands down. That being said, I hope Winston keeps the updates and improvements coming for a long time to come.

1) Sometimes it jumps over a few words ahead without reading them. 2) Plain text ok but Rich text option that shows text originally has issues: some books are showing symbols instead of the letters in the words. 3) Sometimes selecting the word to get definition became a real pain. iPad Air Pro

Kalasie's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 4/27/18 9:00 PM
I lean heavily on Voice Dream; I use it regularly. It’s NOT a dusty, old, forgotten app in a corner of any of my devices, as are many pre-loaded or ill-chosen apps, which seem to still happen despite our best efforts. I can choose to save files as-is, or as an editable file. Then, my preferred voice, the very nice “Tyler” can read to me when my eyes have had enough, or when it is preferable for me to hear rather than read. I like the wide range of voices offered, they are quite numerous. I personally prefer an accent, and for me, certain documents for me tend to absorb better in my mind when read by a specific type of voice, and I choose accordingly. Though I also use UK, Russian, and Indian accents, Tyler/Australian is my default. I save web pages, various documents, PDFs, notes, and long e-mails, and can listen to them all at my convenience. Another big thing I use it for is to listen back to what I have written, to check for typos, or for any other writing errors. It helps catch those stray mistakes (though I didn’t use it for this, in case there are errors;). Then I can edit them right on the spot, and continue on, and do a final check for flow when all is thought to be corrected. I keep all sorts of various types of files, and Voice Dream has been a dream to have and to use. It’s very easy adjust the speech rate as desired, and I doubt many others have the range of voices and accents they provide. I’m sound sensitive, very much so, so I’m glad there are the well-varied options to make it just right for me. I find Voice Dream to be flexible and user-friendly, and it is absolutely my indispensable go-to reader and editor’s assistant. And not to be overlooked, any time I’ve had a question, which has only been a couple of times, and I’ve had it for years, ever since they first had the Lite version, support has been responsive and my questions were answered in a timely manner. It’s one app I can’t do without. Thanks, Voice Dream:)
Sariau's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 4/2/18 12:46 AM
I do prefer this to the built in read-aloud system Apple has hidden away in its accessibility setting. I like how Voice Dream is treated like music, and I can back up to hear a sentence over if I missed something. I like how Voice Dream will continue on when I turn off my screen, which the built in will do for a time before giving up. I like how Voice Dream has a timer, though I mostly control when it stops through my headphones, since it shows up like one. I like how there are voices with different accents and pitches and speeds (though I can get those with the built in version without having to pay upwards of ten dollars for a new voice to decide I don’t like them when they aren’t saying their prepared speech). And both can be taught pronunciation, though my experience with read and lead are not good. They both don’t use data or need WiFi to work, which is nice. Listening to a full length story that takes up the space of 15 minutes of songs? Yes please! I like that I can choose the color, and customize how the app shows the word spoken. There had been a recent update, though maybe not, I haven’t kept up with when the changes happen, and any word starting the the letters “capt” automatically says “captain”. Which makes words like captive (“captain-ive”) captain (“captain-ain”) and the like not very easy to understand. From my tinkering, it’s not a problem with the voices. I’ve tried it with multiple drum different groups, and I’ve tried fixing it in the pronunciation dictionary, but it won’t stop. I’ve gotten used to it, but I think I’d like it more if that problem was fixed. If there is one thing I like more from the built in than Voice Dream is the dictation used when figuring out pronunciation of a word. That almost sold me if I hadn’t already put so much work into my pronunciation dictionary in Voice Dream. I have many foreign words in the documents I read and listen to, and I think I hate it when I come across a word with a hard G sound. (G as in the g in get) I have to finagle the spelling with only the English alphabet to get what I want, and sometimes I have to settle for good enough. Over all, I like Voice Dream. It’s a good app that I’ve used for quite a while, and I like how customizable it is. It just needs a little improvement before it gets five stars from me.

Well in this case I think you get more. It reads for you, yes. But it not only reads it reads much better than any other similar free app. And I know because I tried all the free ones first and they sounded so incredibly robotic that the sentences were melting into each other and I couldn't grasp what I was reading at all. They also had bad intonations on words which also caused confusion. No this isn't a "cheap app" by measure of general app prices but when you measure the value that you get over the life of this app allowing you to read while washing dishes, driving or eating a meal, it is well worth every cent. This app has saved me hours and time is money! Not only can I multitask but I'm also reading much faster when it's the only thing I'm doing because it's scrolling for you and the added time of each thumb swipe is gone. You're now reading hands free. Also, in addition to the included voices, there's an option for premium voices and the option of simply putting it on mute and letting it scroll for you if you prefer your own voice for reading. If you want something that's upfront "cheap" or free they're out there in other apps. This, to me, is cheap when you do the longterm math. Btw I've had this for years and happened to just review now since I was already in the app store to share the link with a friend. Good luck and happy shopping

I am in medical school and textbooks are now all online. It bothers me that i have to go to different websites through different databases every time i want to look something up from a text-and this requires internet. But voice dream reader allows me to pick the chapters I want and store them all in one place for quick reference. This app doesnt require internet!! Love that i can listen to my textbooks while driving, exercising, or even sleeping (hoping unconscious knowledge diffusion is possible). Anyway, one of my favorite features of this is that i can search either an individual pdf or can put in key words in the search button on the home screen and see which pdf titles contain what I'm looking for. Can be a little slow occasionally but considerinng how much Ive stored on here i dont blame it. I can even upload powerpoints into the app One complaint is that I can’t change the name of the document once it is imported into voicedream. However, even if I could I still don’t think I could import directly into the app because the format from the internet doesnt translate. Must save pdf first before pulling into the app, which can sometimes be a bit tedious. Want to put this out there in case others have the issue. I was having an issue with certain letter combinations sounding distorted. It turned out to be an error caused by ibooks, because they encrypt the text when you import things into ibooks. I thought that was the only way to pull book chapters from the internet on ipad, but turns out you can get it to download from a mac computer as well and store it wherever you like-drive, desktop,..etc. I reached out to the company and customer support was very helpful in troubleshooting the issue and quick to respond to my emails. Thanksss for making my commutes hands free, learning adventures!!! Love that i can use this time to study instead of panicking about what im missing during necessary, and often messy commutes.

I’ve had this app for many years. I love that I can listen to long documents/websites rather than reading it. However, within the last few years I’ve been getting too frustrated that I’ve stopped using it. Although it’s not turned on, it always goes into full screen. Then I have problems getting to the controls (play/pause, forward, bookmark, etc). I’ve tried single/double taps or press and hold on the ‘header’ and ‘footer’ areas. I’ve even trying sliding my finger in all directions. Still the controls don’t appear. I end up using the phone’s control center or just closing the app.

I love this app, and it is a great utility for reading things to me that I otherwise cannot see. However, there is one issue that I would really like either fixed or explain in better detail to me. Apparently, there is an option to move books into folders. If you click edit, select all the titles you wish to add to a folder, then click the add to folder button, then choose the folder, there is no folder created in the view, list or grid. So where is this folder being created at, if at all? I would like to sort my books more effectively, but these folders will not show up

This is exactly what I was looking for. I am a graduate student and need to read give or take 200-300 pages per week. This reading usually includes very dense medical pdfs. This app works perfectly and is the most effective means to get through all the reading. This is much better than iBooks or any other pdf/ePub reading with speak enabled. The voice is solid and is actually able to pronounce the medical terms. It allows you to alter pronunciation on specific word and write out in syllables if computer is saying it wrong. You can continuously increase speed as you become use to it. Finally it remembers your spot and the pause and play is 100x better than any reader specifically concerning the application reading to you as you follow. Only wish this app was available on pc,Mac, and android because it’s that good and would pay again for the license. Thank you developer.

I have several hundred purchased eBooks in PDF format and this reader with “text to speech” is my new daily PDF reader app. Great for standard reading of technical PDF ebooks and the multiple high quality voices are outstanding —- 5 Star Quality!!! It conveniently pops up an internal web browser when clicking on links in the PDF file. Navigation is quick and intuitive. I recommend this “text to speech” PDF reader to everyone. The only additional features I would like are the option to use an external web browser to follow links and most importantly nice annotation and markup options —- I like to pause while reading and write on the screen (then clear the screen before resuming) to enhance retention of the materials being covered. Thanks for a Great App. Sincerely ... Charles Brown MD

UPDATE: This was already a fantastic app, but the latest update knocks it out of the park. Great new layout, export, and sync options. I'm especially grateful for the iCloud sync between devices and the ability to crop out the header or footer (updated since my review below). The voices are the best I've ever heard in a voice reader, developer and support team are amazing and very responsive. Honestly every feature I was hoping for it feels like they included in this update. Worth every penny. It's incredible to see developers put this amount of time and care into their apps. This is an enterprise quality app. Well done and many thanks. __ I have a long commute every morning so I spent a lot of time trying dozens of different voice reader apps. I wanted something that could read my library of PDFs to me while I was in the car. For a while I was reluctant to try voice dream reader because of the price tag. However every other app I tried had little annoyances that kept me coming back to the App Store to find a better one. Finally I bit the bullet and purchased this app. It was worth every penny. Here's why: 1. It has an incredible library of voices. I found these voices far superior to other apps who sound much too mechanical for my ear. You have to buy these separately, but once you find one you like it's easy to lose yourself in your book and forget your listening to an automated reader. Additionally the app has had consistent updates that improves voices and features. 2. It has a VERY impressive set of tools that includes bookmarks, highlighting features, and the ability to pull webpages into the app. Also great export options! 3. It can handle a robust range of file formats. I was originally looking for just a PDF reader, but have sense found that this app can play multiple document and ebook formats. But what really blew my mind was that this app could also play my MP3 audiobooks! I have lots of long MP3 files and I don't like listening to them in my music app or google play because I can't easily skip ahead or back, or it doesn't save my position, or I can't select the right speed... The list goes on. This app solved all my problems and I use it almost every day. Studying, leisure reading, work... I use it for everything. Is there room for improvement? Sure, there's always a feature or two that would be useful. For example, I would love the ability to crop the reading field on a PDF to crop out footnotes or the title/page numbers at the top. Hopefully we'll see that feature in a future update. Still, this app has nearly every feature a serious book lover, student, or business woman could need. Don't let the price tag scare you. It's worth it.

This app is so useful versatile easy to use and a necessity if you’re going to read a lot of files on your iPhone the developer is so responsive to use her questions problem reports and quickly puts out fixes if necessary I couldn’t ask for better and I wish other developers would be as concerned about accessibility and functionality as this developer is.

Since the new update, now the reader can’t get through a whole paragraph without having unreadable words or content. Now it’s pretty much useless to me.

I have read hundreds of hours of books using the Kendra Ivona voice and love it! The Dropbox integration makes it so easy to access my big collection. This is the best eBook reader out there for iOS hands down.
Lithmac's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/3/18 12:59 PM
Reliably does what it claims to do (unlike Apple’s two-finger swipe gesture). Extra voices are very good and Apple’s enhanced voices are OK, too. Beware you don’t get all versions of the Will voice when buying the main Will voice. Only mission-critical bug I’ve found so far: Fails to read out initialisms as individual letters. That renders most technical texts unusable, especially about computers, government, law, engineering, etc. Workarounds for now: 1. (Geeky) Use an ePub editor with regular expression replacements to automatically rewrite the book files to use period-separated initialisms. 2. (Boring) Put every combination of three or four upper case letters into a pronunciation list, or at least the ones your books use most. Possible future workaround requiring minor app update: 3. (Geeky) It could be solved with one or two tiny rules in the Pronunciation Dictionary instead of thousands, but its RegExp option does not seem to support numbered replacers like ‘\1’ (backslash-one) at this time.

This app is absolutely incredible. I’ve been able to do my reading at least twice as fast as I can on my own. I even use it to read my physical books. I scan them with the book-scanner in the library, which automatically converts them to S-PDF. I love this app and use it several hours a day. It’s very flexible and never lets me down. It makes law school so much easier for me.
Desposi's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/3/18 12:59 PM
Its not whether you can read well or not. It’s whether you have the energy to stare at a page for long time. I’ve noticed for me that listening is easier than reading when I’m not in the mood and is a way to reduce the activation energy of a task that I wish to get done. It’s also useful for catching up on articles saved for later to read in pocket. (I started using pocket for this amazing feature) also had it read me a 50 page orientation guide for work and over al just love how it makes things easier. I read great, but we don’t all have the energy or patience 24 hrs a day to read everything. Plus it allows me to get through more material faster and has sold me on the whole power of text to speech! Because I saw in another review mention that you can have Siri read you things by setting up accessibility settings and then doing a swipe down on any screen. Yes this is a nice feature I also use, and used prior to finding this app. To me they have different use cases as the flow and how they are used and how well they work in a variety of different situations compared to each other is quite different. This is useful for actual work and learning and processing things. Siri accessibility feature is helpful to also have turned on but is only good if you are already physically reading the article or page and item at hand. This is helpful to share anything too and then go to it when wishing to and have it read away.

This is the best app on my iPhone. It's GREAT!
JihmGiant's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/3/18 12:59 PM
Let me start off by saying that I love this app and I use it everyday. I am a grad student and read all day everyday. This app makes it easy to read anywhere I go on my iPad. I read on my commutes or where I can find time to squeeze in five minutes. I can sometimes, depending on the piece I am reading, simply put in my headphones and listen to the piece without having to have my iPad out. I also really enjoy that I can highlight and the premium voice really makes this app stand out from other applications like Speechify for instant. BUT there are somethings that I wish this app could do better. Footnotes and footers- while the app can distinguish between in text citations and gives the option to skip over these (super healthful for me) it does not skip over footnote sections at the bottom of the page or footers at the end of sentence. This makes listening to articles on the go difficult. No Apple Pencil writing- while I do like that I can highlight the articles as I am reading I wish that I could also use my Apple Pencil to write some notes on the margins. I would suggest making the Apple Pencil only for highlighting and writing and fingers ONLY for scrolling. Selecting words is not accurate - when I am working through a large book like Capital Vol 1 I like to start of at a slow wpm like 190 and eventually work my way up to 250 words and I am actively highlighting as I read, but I find that highlighting becomes in accurate. I often click on the define time when I mean the highlight one. Then when I go back to select the same word to begin defining a section the app does not allow me to select this word again so I have to stop the audio track and start highlighting at the end of the sentence as opposed to the beginning. Does not get much easier when using the Apple Pencil either. I also wish that I could BOTH high light and book mark a selected text on the same tap. It would also be really nice to be able to export the highlighted pdf but I do really appreciate that I can export my highlights in a text document. This makes writing article and paper drafts so much easier. Overall I really love this app. I bought and downloaded so many other tts app but they all lag compared to voice dream. If you’re a student who reads a lot I recommend getting this app.

Please give us the option to have a specific file read from All Items or perhaps Flagged. I was going to add a motivational speech to my morning routine, but the reading list removes whatever is read. Just think it’s severely limiting the app’s capabilities to only have the one option when it can be used for way more than just reading the news articles I saved for later.

I am an avid reader and listener. I have subscriptions to scribe and audible. I have found that this particular app how does the best presentation of text to voice with significant options to make it more usable. The developers have done a fantastic job. The multiple voice option makes it less potentially monotonous. The option to change cursor position from scrolling to set up screen is ideal for me. The ability to fine-tune speed is an excellent addition. I understand there is a Apple Watch app in the making. This would be great particularly if like the new Audible app documents can be downloaded to the watch and not dependent on the phone.

Guys! I have been using this app for more than 3 years. I’m very bad with using English in speaking and listening. This app did a very good job on keeping me alive around English speaker’s living environments like USA. Though sometimes, there are some mis-pronunciation between the word: “life-lives (plural form of life) -live”, however as you can understand it can be fix with an update if you can give developers some pointers review. My recommendation for voice reading is “Will- Acapela” with some small amount of payment, however you can test the voice that suit your native English speaker that you had learned some in high schools or your living environments! Hope you can give it a try and enjoy. And don’t forget to give feedback to the app often ^^!

This app is a solid improvement to my reading workflow. It helps me stay focused to read long documents and allows me to slowly increase my rate of comprehension. Or just turn a great article into a miniature podcast. The price is steep for an app, but you will easily get what you pay for. And to top it off, I have never once had a pop up asking me for a review. I work as a software developer and know the pressure to get reviews is real and constant, I appreciate them choosing to value the users who have invested in them rather than annoying them. Keep doing you 👍

This is a great app and I would give it at least 4 stars but now whenever I open a document in iCloud it is automatically hijacked and imported/opened in Voice Dream Reader. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I’ve turned off iCloud access both in the app settings and in the iOS settings and it still does it. I’ve read through the user manual but didn’t see anything about it. I might have missed it though as the user manual is long and not very well organized. I’m pretty forgiving of apps like this that attempt to do awesome functions, but I have very little patience for hijack tactics against consumers whether they are intentional or not.

This app is awesome in every way. The app would be even better if you created an apple watch app. Also, you should add the ability to read amazon kindle books to this app. I'm not sure if that is even possible (I doubt it) but if there is any way that could be done you should do it.

I’ve been using this app for a couple of years, and it’s one of my favorite and most used apps. I’ve tried many other readers, but this one is the absolute best! I use it daily, and I want to express how much I love this app!
RustVel's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/3/18 12:59 PM
I can’t express enough how much I love this app. I love listening to books with this as if they were audiobooks. Surprisingly the voices don’t sound monotone at all - there’s this weird effect where the voice and emotion of the writing comes through even if the narration of the voices is flat. My only issue with the app is that studying textbooks is a pain. Highlighting is unwieldily and limited. And there’s no way to stop the app from reading all the “inbetwen” or footnote material. If you’re going to be reading mostly straight ePub files or if there’s no footnotes on your PDFs then this is perfect.

I’ve had this app for over 5 years now and it’s honestly been my favorite app on my phone. It’s so useful. I used to use it to listen to my notes and cases during my commute to school and now use it to listen to stories as I commute to work. I recently purchased a new voice “Salli” and am really impressed with the quality. It sounds very pleasant and natural. Well worth the extra $5.

I’m a parcel delivery driver. So I listen to things all day. I’ve used this app to listen listen to literally hundreds of hours of books. (The Joey voice works best for me.) For instance I’ve read everything by Thomas Watson using this app and also everything that Matthew Henry was written. Henry’s commentary on the whole Bible and his 2 vol. works. All you need to do is find any free PDF’s add them to the app and it will read them for you. It is pretty amazing to me how well the reader works and also how clear and naturally it can read.
Grillbrick's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/3/18 12:59 PM
(EDIT: These issues still exist - however the developers did reach out to me after this review and said they were working on the issues so I have decided to give them three stars until they can fix these issues. Then I will be a Voice Dream fanboy again 😉) I used to love this app. I would use it to listen to all me e-books and it worked great. Whenever I had issues I would ask the dev team and they would actually help. Now I am growing increasingly frustrated with their ‘sorry’ responses. My first issue was with the reading cursor not following along when scrolling- if you have a ‘sit down and read’ session like I sometimes do you can get quite ahead of your listening. It would make sense for your listening cursor to follow along otherwise if you leave the app for any length of time you are sent all the way back to where you last listened. I emailed the developers to point this out and their response - “The app is designed to follow the reading once Play is selected. You can turn down the volume for your selected voice if you'd like to have the cursor follow your reading without sound. The cursor is the place holder for where you leave off. Sorry for any inconvenience.” So instead of improving the app their solution is to have YOU change how you read a book? I shrugged and decided to use a different app for reading and just use this one for listening. Now I ran in to another issue when trying to listen to a pdf. I used to be able to set the margins on imported pdf files so it wouldn’t read the header/footer at the beginning/end of every page. I couldn’t find the option anymore as it now “auto detects” these margins. Unsurprisingly “auto detect” is not foolproof. I ask about custom margins and their response: “Thank you for reaching out. Custom margins was replaced by auto-detection of margins in the last version (4.5) of the app. Sorry for any inconvenience.” I’m noticing a pattern here. I spent good money on this app, but now it appears to have been abandoned by its developers. Whatever you do DONT BUY IT!

This is without a doubt the best and most powerful reading app currently available. The fact that it supports audio files makes it that much better. Instead of using different apps for different reading materials, I now use VDR for pretty much all my reading needs. Not to mention that it’s completely Voiceover accessible.

Whenever I click on the book to make the player controls appear and click again to make them disappear, the book scrolls up. When I click out of the app and come back, it goes back chapters...CHAPTERS! Now it bookmarks only where the cursor is, not what you're actually viewing. These changes are really dumb and glitchy. Hope these are fixed soon.

Protip: Use this in conjunction with Pocket. Voice Dreamer’ll automatically download your Pocket saves, so you can “do all your web surfing” in your ears as you’re hiking or whatever. Also it’s sweet to burn through articles/books at 500 words per minute, skimming what’s useless but highlighting & exporting the meaty bits.
ScoutSunday's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/3/18 12:59 PM
I’m an auditory learner. I import articles (from webpages and medical journal PDFs), crank the words per minute to 205 - and consume information at tremendous rates. I’m a slow reader so this app has really improved my productivity. The app allows me to have a multitude of folders where I keep articles I want to reference or share with others, which helps me stay organized. Recently, I cut the binding off a book I had to read and scanned it to PDF and the app read the whole thing to me. I was surprised the app worked so well given it was a textbook style book, but it was great. The developers also do a great job updating the app regularly and it keeps getting better and better. It knows to shorten URLs and citation numbering. The amount of customization is amazing too. You can enable the text to speech option on your phone (if you’re using an iOS device) but this app is far better and worth every cent. 6 STARS.

My friend John in Texas recommended the app suite to me in 2013/2014 because it helped him hear his emails and web pages as his eye sight deteriorated. While I can see and read written words, my primary preferred input method is voice/oral, as an Oral learner. So I always want to convert text-to-voice to hear before reading (Paul said in Romans 10:17 “faith comes by HEARING...”) So it’s listening anytime on car journeys and walking the dog etc that I depend upon. I listen first then read later. So I depend on Voice Dream. It’s very easy to convert content to a stored document for later hearing. Because I’m a Brit I prefer UK English accents so that was easy to add too as was slowing the voice speed to 155 words per minute. One feature add I would request is ability to play from Apple Watch. For good execution of this feature look to the current Audible app on iPhone that allows sending individual books to Apple Watch from audible library. Thank you again for a easy to use app. Forgive me for not submitting this review earlier. God bless the voice dream development team giving them even more resources, knowledge, understanding and wisdom as they continue bringing their dream to fruition.

Jon Mass's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/25/18 1:17 PM
Expensive app with massively underwhelming TTS voices. Every one feels incredibly robotic, and you have to pay for more? I decided on “Will”, which sounded like the most natural voice based off of the samples. Cut to actually reading an ebook, it sounds chopped up, with awful intonation, awkward diction, and blatant mispronunciation of even basic words. I often have to pause and re-read sections because it’s simply incoherent when read by the TTS voice. Of course this is an occasional problem with any TTS system, but never near as much as with this one, specifically. The only reason I could see people giving this positive reviews is if they have just discovered TTS for the first time. There’s several other apps even on the app store that do what this does, significantly better, for free. It’s a shame, because the app itself has some nice features and design. It does more than any other reader app on the iOS App Store, but ironically, there’s ones that do far more in Android, for significantly cheaper. This app just charges so much because they have a total monopoly. But, the downright awful quality of the voices makes this borderline unusable for me, and incredibly frustrated that I now just have a $15 reminder of how bad Apple’s lack of a return policy is. Almost every other app that I’ve tried has significantly more natural sounding voices, all of them free or included in the price of the app. And they never cost anywhere near $15. Expected far more out of something this pricey. I want my money back.

I use this app more as a proofreading tool. I run everything I write through it. It sure would be handy if there was some sort of macros the app would skip over the test and not read. (//don’t read this//) One more thing, because I also edit quite often and listen back, please give the user the option of turning off the feature that will delete the recent edits if the phone is turned sideways. I’ve lost lots of work because of this. Update: LOL, I just saw a Voice Dream writer in the app store. I’m totally getting it! Thanks to The developer for these tools.

While the app has a few little quirks that make it a little less than perfect, it nearly is. I love to write and greatly enjoy listening to stories. Before I found this app I spent a lot of time reading. Now I am more active and more productive because I can do both. It even helps me edit my own writing. Love it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✨✨✨✨✨ ***** FIVE 5+STARS !! ***** ✨✨✨✨✨⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Voice Dream Reader provides an intelligent user-friendly environment. This is the best app I’ve ever installed on my iPhone. Period. Voice Dream Reader is unsurpassed in the way of assistive tech. The app dictates my lecture notes for me, and unlike to err is human, this app dictates completely error-free. With Voice Dream Reader, I am able to study my textbooks when I am in the car, walking, or anywhere I need to be hands-free. I just import my textbook into Voice Dream reader and it turns my textbook into an audio book. If I’ve time to follow along, The Voice Dream Reader App also allows an immersive experience; it reads the text aloud - eliminates distraction, and increases my auditory focus concurrent to visual attention. User Controls are Feature-rich and well-thought-out. We can scroll down page by page or freely, adjust the speed of the voice-over, or have each word highlighted they are spoken. It’s voice-over is so advanced, I sometimes forget it’s not an actual human speaking. Thank you, to The Voice Dream Team, as you have helped this humble scholar gain an undergraduate education. The Voice Dream Reader App is some of the best money I ever spent to that end.

Big Shirtless Ron's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/19/18 1:15 PM
VoiceDream Reader has been a steadfast and reliable means for acquiring and reading books on my iOS devices for nearly 6 years. With each update has come more features and behavioral improvements without ever detracting from the core mission of the app-- to easily read electronic text. Ever since I got my Apple Watch, I've longed for a way to somehow listen to my books away from the phone, especially when I'm exercising. Now with version 4.7 this is a reality, and all at no extra cost. Mr. Chen's constant track record of delivering true value over the long hall speaks for itself. This is, and will continue to be, the only app I use to read eBooks, period. Thank you for yet another great update to an already outstanding reader.

As an MBA student at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, I regularly have to read 8+ chapters per week. With Voice Dream, I’m able to breeze through the content in a fraction of the time with surprisingly good retention. I’ve been using Voice Dream for over a year. Initially I tried others and also the built-in Siri screen reader - none compare to Voice Dream. Recent product improvements like skipping repetitive header/footer text have delighted me. I give it 5 stars!
Jerry Costley's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/16/18 1:06 PM
Perfect in practically every way. Very easy to instantly convert almost anything on the smart phone to an audio format with very human like voices. There are also great controls you can tinker with to get speed, timber and other settings just right. If you need a great reader this is it.
cyber553's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/16/18 1:06 PM
The standard out of the box voice (Heather) is the most human-like I’ve ever heard. Also, the “pronunciation dictionary” feature is amazing - allows you to change how the voices pronounce certain words if you don’t like the default pronunciation. This is great for the few instances where there’s a word or acronym or name that occurs frequently in a text (reoccurring newsletter or book) that I want Voice Dream to say it differently from the default. I hope the App is taking this data that we users meticulously enter and is using it to guide future adjustments and improvements to the reading engine that the developers build. While this app is nearly flawless in my eyes now, one annoying bug has keeps in recently: when switching into the app to a reading that has been paused, it frequently jumps to a random point in the text on the screen. If I hit play, it resumes playing at the point where I left off and a quick 2-finger tap will take me back so the right part of the text shows on the screen, but it’s annoying to have to do this when I am regularly switching between Voice Dream and another app I use to take notes on the books I read (Microsoft Word, in case that helps catch the bug!). I hope the team can hunt this one down as they have caught all the others in the past. Keep it up! :)

I am autistic, and had trouble doing anything besides reading. I would get so panicked whenever I did or tried to do anything but reading. This app has changed my life. I listen all day long and actually get things done at the same time! What was once panic inducing is now no big deal with this app! Thank you so much for this masterpiece! Nothing else has ever worked before, and I love the freedom this app brings. God bless!
dreinstein's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/16/18 1:06 PM
I’ve had this app since it was released. In most instances I prefer Voice Dream to actual audiobooks. Which means you can make any pdf, epub, mobi, etc a high quality audiobook. The speed control, bookmarks, notes, location recall, duration of books (which changes dynamically when increasing/decreasing the speed), sleep timer, document thumbnails, various sorting options, custom folders, library sync, etc. It also allows the user a ton of control in its visual appearance, so it’s a great general reader in its own right. It’s easy to upload files from dropbox. Many of the additional voices are amazing and specific voices are assigned to specific books. In comparison the built in iOS TTS is cludgy and poorly implemented with no features. There is no comparison. To me it is worth we’ll more than the asking price. I guess it depends on whether or not you use the full feature set and if you like supporting small developers that value their users and respond to support inquiries and feature requests. The only feature I would love is the ability to play music in the background. I use the brainwave app to make this happen but it would be much easier and better to use spotify, apple music, youtube, etc to play background music with Voice Dream. Anyways, it’s a great app. Thanks for making it.

At the risk of overstating, this is literally the most effective, useful and reliable app that I have used. I am an attorney and I often have little time to review the latest facts in a case prior to a hearing. This app has made it possible to listen to any document, regardless of the format (ie. PDF, Docx; etc.) while traveling and/or stuck in traffic on my way to court. I am truly appreciative to the creators of this app.

A Bostonian Visual Thinker's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/16/18 1:06 PM
I’ve been using Voice Dreamer for about 3 weeks and while it isn’t perfect, it IS an excellent and thoughtfully designed app. Different people will have varying purposes in mind for the app but in my case, I was looking for a V-to-T app that I could use both during long dog walks as well as one that would enable me to both “bookmark” passages for review and to export selected passages. VoiceDream handles both sets of tasks very well. As a newbie to T-to-V, I was a bit disappointed with the artificial flow and pacing of the text but alas, that is the state of the art at this point. I have tried other T-to-V apps and found the same shortcomings in terms of the flow and pacing. Also, I found that it is important to try different voices to find the one(s) that are most comfortable. I purchased two voices but finally settled one of the iOS voices. One thing the app doesn’t have is an Mac OS X version. It would be nice but it isn’t crucial for me. On the other hand, the developer seems committed to continually enhancing the app. This alone makes the price very worthwhile. So I do look forward to future updates.

I have had the Voice Dream Reader for awhile Now. It helped me finish the books for my classes in much less time and with much less stress. I have a difference in learning and this has helped me be on a more level pace with those who do not face this challenge in their life. Now I am using it for enjoyment. For iPhones it is easier to open the download on your iPhone and share straight to the Voice Dream Reader app on the iPhone. Thank you Voice Dream for the help and enjoyment you App has offered me!

I've been using this app for a few years and the developers are dedicated. It isn't beautiful at first glance but there is a lot of beauty in the details as you start to use it. I upload ebooks and have it ready them as audiobooks on long drives. Or just catch up on my Instapaper list in a short break. It's one time fee is worth it.
matt_makes_vidiots's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/16/18 1:06 PM
Hi I really like your app and the price is right instead of a bs monthly- but it would be great if you could get the voices to pause at the end of sentences a beat and then paragraphs a beat n a half as that’s how the brain processes what it just absorbed. It sounds too frenetic when you have it reading over 250 if it doesn’t do such. If you do that I’ll change my review from four to five and I mean that unlike some. Thank you. Best Regards

As a professional writer I’d never found a text-to-speech synthesizer that was more than a robo-voice - nothing professionally useful. Now I’m re-writing a novel and I’m finding it FANTASTIC to have Voice Dream read a chapter to me in a voice that sounds like a professional reader on Audible! The voices that come with the app are fine but the in-app purchase voices are AMAZING. I swear it sounds like they’re reading with feeling. I use SHARON for my novel as it’s from a female POV and I can truly imagine how my novel will sound as an audiobook. WONDERFUL app!!

This is a great application for reading books. I especially appreciate the flexibility and ease of use for making adjustments two speed and play back. It is much simpler to use than other readers I have downloaded. However, I have been pleasantly surprised by how applicable this is for reading other formats including PDF, word documents, webpages, and even listening to old MP3 files for lectures that I have on my one drive account. Incredibly powerful an incredibly useful. Thank you for all your hard work in developing this application.

What a great find. Prior I have been using Siri to read documents and my writings, but this app has definitely improved the experience. It was easy to set up and had a nice choice of premium voices. I was able to quickly choose a free download and did purchase another voice to have a variety. The app came with both ”Quick Start” and ”User Manual ” preloaded to help with any hiccups along the way.
dharg's Review of Voice Dream ReaderReviewed on 12/13/18 12:31 PM
This app is overpriced. The voices are robotic despite the reviews claiming the opposite. There’s a a noticeable pause between the words that’s distracting. The inflections sound forced. I’ve had the app for 2 minutes and I already hate it. Sorry to sound so negative but that’s exactly how I feel.

Well worth the price! Now I can listen to my electronic documents while I work or travel just like it was an audio book. Love the Lisa voice, very fluid. As a suggestion I would love to somehow be able to clip out header and footer data such as page numbers etc from the reading of the document.

It’s amazing how much time we have on the road, waiting for people, doing chores etc. By listening to Voice Dream during these fragmented sessions, I managed to finish many books that I were almost certainly not able to finish reading on my own. I probably spend on average 1.5-2 hours on this app. Most of the time, listening to books is probably a better use of time than listening to podcasts or music. Developers’ quick response and fixes after iOS 11 was released has been amazing. Kudos to them for making such a great app.

I wasted $14 on this app. Do NOT buy it. The developers obviously can’t keep up with the updates. I read that they were having rare issues with ios11 and were trying to fix it. I downloaded it and it started giving me programming error messages with the 3 default items that were supposed to be part of the install. Can I get my $14 back? Update: Per instructions from the developer, I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. This worked. Still annoying.

The single best app available for iOS. Honestly, it's worth buying an iPhone simply to get the app--it's that good. I don't have much to add that hasn't been said already. I'll just say that I'm a professor of history at a public research university and I use this app for listening to all the readings I assign and the supporting texts I use to develop course lectures. I even listen to student papers submitted by email as Word files. As you might imagine, I read quite a lot for my work--but not nearly as much as I used to, thanks to this app. I've discovered that I process information much better listening than reading, in part because as I move more quickly through material I more readily grasp broader, unifying themes. I’m utterly dependent on this app.
