Flashcards Deluxe App Reviews

I used this extensively a few years ago for Arabic. This evening my 7th grade daughter was reviewing her Arabic vocabulary homework and asked me for help. After 30 minutes, I remembered Flashcards deluxe. Trained her, and she cranked with entering cards, and now she is using it and loves it! This app is well thought out and very simple to use, with all the features you need.

I've used Flash Card apps for years to study professionally. My last App, I learned, was not going to update to the iOS 64 bit requirement, so I needed a new Flash Card App. After reading reviews and features carefully, this is the App I chose. The price is incredibly fair for the quality of the App and vast features it offers - multiple choice, text to speech, free storage, 3 sided-cards, color and font choices, and even 3 ways to answer a question, - wrong, right and strong confidence right - for better follow-on card review. Great support if you have questions from the developer as well. Skip the rest and choose this App for your studies, and you will not be disappointed. Thanks for such a perfect App!

This app is great. Both the Leitner and Spaced Rep have helped me learn so much for my college exams. The app is very complex, so it does take a little reading to figure it out. It does so much, and costs about the same as an actual deck of index cards. 5/5 Great value, especially since Anki for iOS is around $25.

Great app. Huge variety of features. Sometimes somewhat difficult to find though.

I’m sure this is a great app for some but not for me. Difficult to set up for what I need...not for language learning which is what it seems designed for. I make my own Flashcards abs a friend suggested an app. I was excited about the prospect but have found this unsuitable for my needs.

As someone who is blind, I absolutely love how this app works so well with VoiceOver. It would be nice if the spaced repetition was a bit more intuitive, but other than that I have absolutely no complaints!

Fantastic app, simple but well organized, with great integration options. A smartphone is a perfect format for using flashcards. For each chapter or topic of my language studies, I make a 2-column Google Spreadsheet, with word or phrase I need to learn in the first column, and corresponding answer in English on the right. Then I download this in the app and make it into a flash card deck. I go forward through the deck, then from end to beginning, and so forth until I've mastered the material. And I have all this in my pocket, so if I'm waiting somewhere or am otherwise bored, I always have the option of drilling flashcards. It's a great productivity addition to a language learning toolkit.

This is without a doubt the best flash card app u could dream off. And so I'll make one criticism in the hope that this awesome developer will implement it. The easiest way to make cards is to simply capture photos from pdf viewers/editors/annotators of class slides/texts etc. A very effective card can be made by simple image capture of class powerpoint slide (side 2) and a corresponding image capture of this slide that has been annotated/edited to hide the pertinent information (side 1). This is quick and easy and effective. HOWEVER.. doing this through the app is NOT STREAMLINED. One should be able to go right back to the same spot in photos to grab the next photo for side 2. Just make it so u go straight back to the last slide u added instead of having to go all the way back through the photo album for gods sake!! ;) Sorry to crack out. Fantastic app anyway!!

I have had this app for a very long time and it just keeps getting better. The smart study tools like Leitner and spaced repetition studying lift the app far above its competitors. I am not good at memorizing so I use it to learn my students’ names. I import their names through the online private deck option and the walk around and take their pictures in class. You would not believe the difference it makes to have the app keep track of which cards you remember and which you struggle with. It is so far beyond simple flashcards, I think it needs a new word to describe it.

I've been a user for 5ish years now and have loved the app, although the UI has always left a little something to be desired. That being said, the recent removal of direct quizlet importing is kind of a deal breaker. They brought it back the first time, so fingers crossed that happens again! Either way, it's been a good ride. Thanks dev!

Love this app! I use for every show I do to learn my lines. The feature to repeat only what was missed is particularly useful for not over working lines I already know. And you can reverse the flip order to test whether you know your cues. Also, the process of getting the lines into the app forces you to get familiar with them. Highly recommend.

This app has helped me get into dental school and will help me get through it too. If you put the time in, it is going to boost your grades.

Was shopping around for an SRS capable flashcards app, wasn't quite sold on the popular Anki one at the current price. Downloaded the Lite version of this Deluxe one as well as a free light version of AnkiApp. Played around with both for a few days, couldn't even get the Anki one to import a spreadsheet file. Found this Deluxe one far more user friendly, with great balance of just enough customization without it giving me a headache, yet delivering just the features I needed. And at a significantly lower price than Anki. Highly recommend.

Flashcards Deluxe lets you get started right away. Run the tutorial and you’re ready to go. But dig a little deeper, and it has everything you’ll ever need from a flash card app. Spaced repetition is the way to go, and FD takes care of all the flashcard management chores, so you can focus on your goal: Learning! I'm using it to learn Russian, and the online upload feature allowed me to load an Excel spreadsheet of 10,000 Russian words, definitions, and example sentences. Cyrillic script? No problem. Even better, my list is in order of frequency, and FD adds new cards to the deck in that order. I'm currently using it for straight memorization, but I can’t wait to get to a point where I can start using the third side of the card, which uses each word in a sentence. It’s my favorite app ever!

I don’t see the option for a spelling test. The description says that you can take a test using the keyboard.

Just started using this app. Some of the reasons I like it a lot: 1) has the ability to add pictures by drawing on each side. Makes it so much easier to add drawings to your flashcards (otherwise you need to open another app, draw something, save, then export to this app, etc.) 2) has the ability to have multiple sides on each card which is huge 3) has the ability to add notes to each card, to help you remember stuff 4) has the ability to draw your answers while reviewing or quizzing yourself on the flashcards; i'm a bit more of a visual learner, so sometimes I like to doodle to help myself understand things better or work through a problem. Also, the app won't save these drawings, so you don't have to erase once you're done; think of it like scratch paper alongside your flashcards. 5) can be exported to your pc via usb. Having a cloud and being able to export/import via google drive is good too, but if the app ever stops being supported, I know that I can always still backup and update via my cpu. Fantastic flashcard software all in all.

Loads cards from text file. Exactly what I was looking for!

It’s good as a Flashcards app but it’s hard to edit the cards intuitively. Also, it can’t changed the font format partially. I just want to change the color of one word but it forced me to change all of them. Chegg one is easier to use.

You cannot make individual cards within a deck either multiple choice or a flash card. There is no verity in the cards. They all have to be the same type of card. I regret buying this app and I would like to have my money refunded.

I’ve been using this app for years and it never ceases to impress me! Super duper convenient and it seems like the developer thought of everything.

This was extremely easy to pick up on and begin creating flashcards for the complex industry I’m in. Very intuitive, transfers and syncs beautifully. I had more trouble with Excel prior to the data import than the program itself. Clean user interface. Worth a lot more to me than the app price which is essentially the price of a set of index cards. Thank you.

I love this app. I’ve been using it for years since college. I graduated three years ago and I still use it. That’s how much I find this app useful. However, I’m re-rating this with 3 stars instead of 5 because iCloud sync is not a feature.

I never thought I'd use this again after a year of not using it. It improved so much that I won't look elsewhere!

This is an extraordinary app but is obscenely complex. Just setting the color scheme is its own ecosystem of unnecessary features. Sure you can do anything with the app if you can figure out how and you don't break it. This would be a killer app if they eliminated 90% of the features.

I’m a full-time language student learning my first language beyond English. I’m learning a tone-based SE Asian language that has its own script. Months ago I paid for the expensive Anki-app but HATED that I couldn’t study what I wanted when I wanted to. I used Anki (the free one) for a while, but after I made a few dozen decks, it kept crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but it just kept crashing more and more frequently until it became unusable. This app lets me easily make cards and review them whenever I want however many times I want. It is extremely reliable and has not crashed even once. I learn 10 to 20 new words/grammar structures every day with it. And my language is progressing nicely. I am not prepared to argue with the science of space repetition, but for me this app is working fantastically!

This is thus far my most frequently used app for over years!! I usually download Quizlet decks to text->excel->upload through the website as private decks, which works perfectly, also I make my own deck and keep appending to a original deck. I use both shorttime goal and spaced repetition based on the number of cards and the goal type (cramming for the final or language). I use online search often and It helps a lot! I can draw on the image to number or hide the answer etc. Sound is great too. TTS lets me to use Siri sobI don’t need to download the voice file. It is extremely helpful I can work on the decks while walking etc. My friend wanted me to use Anki but it’s so unintuitive and I definitely prefer Flashcard Deluxe over Anki

Straightforward introduction, fast startup making my own cards, then boy am I killing it with the spaced repetition feature. This was a huge discovery.

I’ve been using it for more than 3 years and I’ve accumulated more than 11000 card with at least three active side. Just perfect. With permanent server support and update. I wish developer could offer some kind of flexibility for the text such as “bold, color, ...” as using HTML is a little time consuming. Thanks for developing such a precious app.

I have been trying to find an app to make my own flash cards that doesn't make me sign up for a website and that works without crashing and isn't hideous to look at. Finally I find one that does what I want. Simple, elegant, customizable. Yes! Thank you!

I've been using this app for years and love it. I tried Quizlet for a while but found that Flash Cards Deluxe allows for much more personalized/customizable settings. And, unlike Quizlet, Flash Cards Deluxe does not charge subscription fees.

This app is very helpful for learning with the spaced repetition manner (or others). It is also very customizable, and the producer of the app returns emails asking for new features or help very quickly.

I’m a rarely write reviews kind of person. This app is powerful and phenomenal. Ernie has made everything customizable and available to the user so the functionality is almost endless. I use this app everyday in a professional language learning environment and it’s become an essential tool in this process for me and my fellow learners. To top it off, Ernie responds to contact with detailed help to ensure the user can do what they need.

This app has all of the features of physical flashcards and more! The biggest pluses for me are that you can draw the cards or type them, add pictures (and even annotate them), put the cards into different categories based on how well you know the material, randomize the order of the cards, repeat only the ones you got wrong, change which side of the card is shown first, and search for certain cards. This app has been integral to my studying since high school and replaced paper flashcards (which can be difficult to organize, keep track of, and search). Thanks for an amazing app!

I have used Flashcards Deluxe for many years now. It has never failed to be a solid well supported flexible and very useful application. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the type of repetitive study that is aided by the use of flashcards. Highly recommended!!

Unfortunately, through no fault of the developers... quizlet sync was removed. However, not having a simple way to make Flashcards on a desktop and including images is a deal breaker and the main reason I had to go back to Ankimobile.

I barely pay for any apps, this is the first exclusion. My study has been going smoothly since the very moment I purchased Flashcards Deluxe. Just go for it and you will never regret. Say goodbye to aimlessly repetitive crams and welcome to spaced repetition, the most scientific way of learning !

I love this app and use it almost every day. It has enough options to be truly useful without being overly complex. I like the fact that I can export/import using dropbox between my iPad and iPhone so the cards and statistics are avail on either.

Losing the Quizlet sync feature makes the app unremarkable for the price

Such a great app. Love the advanced study methods and how I can have the app read the front and back of the cards to me all in a row! Update: Thanks for the update. They always remind me to get back at my flash cards!! --- Simple to use or if you want to dig into its capabilities it is also very powerful and feature rich. Love how I can backup to Dropbox. I appreciate the regular updates.
