I had a huge php project to complete in a short amount of time. So, I needed something fast & reliable. This did the job. Searching across multiple folders/files is a breeze, emmet commands built in, code formatting that doesn’t break functionality, and everything works so smooth and intuitave. I just love the fresh feeling Textastic gives me on projects big or small. There is no bloat whatsoever. Great application!!! Buy it - you will be happy.

This is a great text editor with code completion. Well worth the money.

Textastic is a great text editor. It really does better than Sublime in my opinion, though it’s usually for text washing and not deep syntax. One grinding thing though; when you open the app, it doesn’t open to a blank window… drives me bonkers. It would be a nice setting change / option. In the meantime, I’ve actually done some work in Syntra Small, but Textastic is definitely still King of the Hill.

As others have noted, Textastic appears to override your macOS default app settings for some files, i.e., GetInfo and Always Open With options don’t seem to work. On macOS this occurs when the file is stored in the Textastic iCloud folder and is a macOS/iCloud instituted behavior, not something done by Textastic. Since this is not a Textastic issue and the app is otherwise excellent - no reason not to give this app five stars. Thank you to the developer Alexander for his support in very quickly identifying the concern.

seems like a generally good text completion / editor, but really needs a preview / live-preview type of helper ala the oft missed taco-edit. For those who don’t know what that means, it’s a way to run the code as a web-site live in another window / area of the screen. So if you use php or html you can get a fast preview of what’s changing, AS YOU TYPE. Otherwise, this is just another simple editor. And yes FTP would be so nice. too.

I started using Textastic on the iPad, and was so impressed I decided to check out the OS X version. I was so impressed by the apps, and wanted to support the dev, that I switched from using Vim for the majority of my work to this app.

I used this editor to create diagnostic tools for realtime space applications. It appears to be an excellent code editor for Python, but it apparently is designed to track you, possibly to steal intellectual property. After you use it long enough to learn it thoroughly, it forces you to sign into the App Store with a phony error message (app was not purchased on this computer). If you are able, I strongly urge running a tcpdump to see where it’s sending your data. I cannot do this; I am reporting it to DoD, as required by law.

This text editor allows me to do my homework (yay!). My HTML5/CSS3 teacher requires us to use Notepad or Notepad++ and of course Mac doesn’t have that. Our textbook has bad things to say about Mac’s TextEdit app and after saving my homework file and not being able to go back in to edit it the next day, I can see why. I have not had a single issue with Textastic. It does everything I hear a text editor is supposed to do. I especially like how it connects to iCloud and connects with my iPhone. At any time, I could close my laptop, pick up my phone, and there’s my markup. Just like Pages! I also like that the phone app lets you preview what your markup would look like rendered in a browser. As a student new to HTML5 and CSS3, this is very helpful. I cannot wait to get an iMac and get a full-sized screen to work with and expand my tool kit. The description in the advertisement said “iCloud support” and it truly supports me! I do think, however, that it’s false advertising to show the code coloring in the preview screens on the App Store. Unless I’m missing a button or a menu, my version of Textastic has yet to provide a way to change the color of different parts of the markup. Everything you type is exactly the same color. The only thing you can set a color to is the theme so, it’s all gray background with all white font, all black background with all white font, burgundy background with all black font, white background with all black font.... There’s no way to make a teal background with elements in orange, attributes in purple, CSS properties in red, values in gold, and text in black. I have no idea how they got the shots above at all. I’ve been through the menu for four weeks now trying different things. Maybe I’m too new to this? I FINALLY found the manual (the link in the Help menu doesn’t take you directly to a manual… you have to go through a couple screens first). I’ll update my review and let you know what I find… Nope. I found no button or menu for Textastic to set colors to different code types. Ah well, that would be a privilege and not a necessity. I still LOVE the app. :-)

I was going to use this as quick nice text editor but author is trying to make something else out of it. There is big chance that next version is going to be paid upgrade very soon, and current abandoned just like IOS versions for iPad and iPhone. Not worth paying for when there is free option like TextWrangler, better to invest in to already robust good editors like Sublime Text, Coda or BBEdit. I don’t trust developer anymore.

Great developer! Printing capability instantly puts this above Sublime Text as a student when often code needs to be turned in (either in pdf or paper). This is a great text editor witha clean interface and syntax coloring. The ability to modify files directly from services such as iCloud Drive or Google Drive is also extremely useful. Highly recommend
