Just installed it on my new Xs Max and it doesn’t work well. I came over from a android phone, and it worked great on my Pixel. Now when on my Xs Max, when I send a push and try to approve it, it doesn’t do anything. Repeatedly tapping approve or deny does nothing. Then when I unlock it and go to the home screen and try to approve the notification, still nothing. I have to completely open the App to approve a request. It wasn’t like this on my Android device. Please fix this on the new iPhone, I have to use it a lot for work and it’s frustrating.

So far I love the app but what it really needs is to cycle the codes Every 30 seconds automatically just like Google Authenticator because without that it doesn’t really seem that secure in that kind of concerns me because usually you would expect an authenticator to cycle through codes every 30 seconds automatically but without The future you have to cycle through codes manually which I don’t like at all And I’m referring to all versions of authenticators meaning all things you use Duo Mobile for should have a 30 second authenticator countdown and then refresh and I’m generally Referring to native accounts having the 30 second refresh on codes

Fleetsaver's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 9/18/18 2:30 PM
I do not like that my employer switched to a commercial 2 factor authentication system that requires access to my personal devices. I don't use any cloud-based services for my phone, because I have account information and passwords stored on it. Duo is providing a “service” that constitutes the principal risk to my personal data security, and no amount of reassurances will convince me that giving a cloud-based private company access to my device is secure.
a.czarnik's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 9/17/18 3:26 AM
Yeah I mean it works like a 2FA app should, so in that respect it’s good I guess... except that YOU CANT RENAME “THIRD-PARTY” ACCOUNTS WHICH IS REALLY ANNOYING. there’s not a way to differentiate them at all. So if you aren’t using one of the 15 preselected services it’s a guessing game every time you need a code. Quite frustrating.

Frankly, I had some trepidation when my university implemented Duo based on the reviews here. I’ve been using it for over a month now and it’s worked perfectly. And it’s easier than other 2FA processes. I’ve authenticated access to my iPhone, iPad, a Mac and a PC. Perfect and easy every time. If you have a beef with your employer or university because they require 2FA, don’t take it out on Duo.

I am a IT consultant with several clients and over the years I’ve watched as the security surface has changed.I can sit there and watch through packet monitors hackers constantly trying to get into Networks everywhere it’s really bad. I started using to go as a secondary factor authentication product to help alleviate the chances of intrusion into Networks and it is greatly improved security everywhere for all my clients. Or use it on VPNs RDP websites everything and do not see the problems that are listed in the negative reviews here. The best part of this is if we get a duo push and you didn’t initiate it, it is a way to tell me that credentials have been compromised and I can immediately changed what else do you need... Written using voice to text excuse any typos.

jgummersall's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 7/31/18 3:49 PM
This app has served me perfectly for well over a year. Unlike the Google Authenticator app, this app backs up data to iCloud in a way that is tied to the device and cannot be recovered to another device. This is a huge time saver if you ever have to restore your phone and don’t want to reconfigure all your OTP entries. The UX works well and I’ve never had a problem with the generated codes. Highly recommended!
66cj66's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 7/30/18 9:38 PM
Apparently the overall goal of this app is to prevent unauthorized access to certain accounts by making it difficult for everyone to get into their own accounts. Every time I try to access my own account, the app will notify me as usual and I will push the green check to allow myself to access my account. When I return to the original page, it tells me “session has expired.” Every time. Same story if I use the password option. So I’m just locked out of my account now. Thanks Duo, at least hackers won’t be able to breech my school account for some reason.

I only experience a failure of the DuoPush app to authenticate on an iPhone. After I enter my login info, it requests a duopush authentication option selection, and they all work except the push on the same device from an iPhone. When i select push to my device, it opens the request on the phone and when I select approve and go back to Canvas, it never authenticates. I have talked with Instructure support and they keep telling the school I can’t log in, which is false, and when I tell them it’s not the login, they don’t get it, I feel like I’m talking to a robot that has never used their own application. Worthless customer support.
jb123456$$'s Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 6/1/18 9:11 PM
Once upon a time I could log into my school accounts with the click of a button. Then last year, that all changed. The entirety of my school was forced to download Duo and it forever ended ease of logging in. Instead of just having us choose stronger passwords or maybe having better security on the site we use, now it is of utmost importance that we have a second device on us every time we have to log in to our account. If you needed to access any part of your student account without having your phone on you it would be worthless to try. Not only this, but each different device you log into can only remember you for a maximum of 30 days!! And don’t even think about forgetting to check that tiny box because it will make you do it all over again even if you only logged out for a few seconds. The app stopped pushing notifications as well so you have to actually go into the app and find the option to approve a requests Honestly, I cannot believe that the University of Alabama encouraged the use of this app. I would rather have my account hacked and every piece of information stolen than ever have to use Duo again.

PRoachND's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 5/3/18 6:00 PM
If I could give this app fewer than 0 stars, I would. After installing, my iPhone password magically changed, without my designating a new password. My password had been 4 digits, but was suddenly 6. No explanation. No warning. I contacted Duo customer service, who told me to contact Apple. Ultimately, I had to erase my iPhone, but here’s the kicker - I had just started a new job, and hadn’t yet backed up my phone on my new laptop. I thought everything was backed up on iCloud, but it wasn’t. As a result, I lost years and years of family photos, videos contacts, and several other things. Needless to say, I am not a fan of Duo.

Bflying's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 5/23/18 3:27 AM
Update: After using Duo for a long time (1+ year), it is my favorite 2FA app by far. Great reliability and features make it a fantastic app!! Two feature suggestions for improvement: 1. Need Many more product Icons than it has now (both actual logos and many generic ones) 2. Have the ability to create folder groups with favorites. Also, there are MANY apps that don’t support the push, If there was a way to have Duo work with the mfgs to add support for that. Duo app has a lot of great options (i.e. Push, call, etc) for two factor Auth. It works a lot better than other ones I've used and has a lot more flexibility. I highly recommend this app! The only issue I ever had was it made me re-Scan the QR code, but it could have been other issues so I don't want to blame the app because it may not have been it. I've used it for months since with not even a hiccup!

A lot of the reviews I’ve read focus on people’s frustration with having to use a second factor and not on the app itself. I personally use duo as my 2FA option for personal use and as I said before for our customers and internal IT. Great app great solution all around.

Anyone who’s had their account compromised in the past or experienced identity theft, really appreciate having this enabled on their email logins. Phishing attacks are endless these days. The best thing for admins to do is explain how it helps protect the user from unauthorized logins in the event their email and password are compromised, and to advise them of the need to re-activate Duo after replacing or purchasing a new phone. Nice work.

Usually, Duo Push for two-factor authorization 2FA works pretty well. It's great to get a nudge to log in with improved security. Until it doesn’t. And then you’re locked out. If your IPhone is out of reach then the Apple Watch app is locked so you can’t log in. No improvement on this since 2017. I recommend other apps such as 1Password instead because they are more reliable. Also most web pages that support Duo mobile do NOT actually support pushes. So you always have to type the one-time passwords.

If nothing else your hacked account can be used to flood everyone else on campus with spam that is nearly impossible to filter. I don't know what the reason is for it to relax the data. My Blizzard security app is still working. What makes me most angry is that it won't let me use the phone number to verify it. It wants me to validate it with the original application which was cleaned up by no reasons.

I work at an academic medical center and protection of our data and information is vital. However, using the Duo mobile app on my phone for apps rarely if ever works. The updates between my system’s apps, my phone, and Duo are constant so each time I go to login to something on my phone I have to call my IT department to figure out what settings I need to update on my phone to get it to work. I even ha e to use Duo to authenticate logging into the websites at my organization and they also aren’t working on my phone. I have to open up my computer to access information instead. Duo, yes. My employer doesn’t seem equipped to answer my questions so I’ll try here, because your description about the iCloud Backup & Recovery process isn’t detailed enough in your user guide for me to seek due diligence. I am concerned that my entire iCloud backup will be useless when obtaining a new device if I connect this app. I have asked my employer if the the administrator has enabled this feature (it’s rather hard in a 40K+ org to find out who would enable this feature and ask them) and if that enabling has been tested, but have received a cricket response. Your prompt response with the answers I seek (with the answers I want to hear) will be rewarded with more stars. Thanks!

Why does this exist? Hate it hate it hate. Heaven forbid I get a new phone and it won’t freakin give me my account so I can save my work. Or you know, function around this university. Which I can’t do now. Because we have this s***** extra unnecessary thing. So glad I’m leaving in a month and can trash this app off my phone forever. No one wants this.
ILoveDuO's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 4/24/19 9:19 PM
I blame us millennials for this overzealous, excessive, and pointless use of technology. No one likes this garbage app. No one asked for it. It was better when I could just login to my resources without having to verify by other means. This is just another reason for millennials to keep their phones glued to their palms. This is nothing more than some PR stint that college technology support centers can brag about to say that they did their part to keep students “cyber safe.” I could care less if some stranger stole my blackboard password. If he wants access to my online lectures- go ahead! I believe that knowledge should be shared by all. He can submit my lab reports while he’s at it too. The point is that just because we can enhance cyber security doesn’t mean that we actually NEED to. I have to say though, whoever thought this c*** up is a genius. He’s making millions of dollars off paranoid, ignorant, and incompetent administrators. Marketing technology to business majors is always very fruitful.

Two device verification is a great idea on paper but somehow, this idea has been made into an infernal process. It was maddening to make my account and be told I had no Duo accounts even when I used the Push function more than once. I don’t look forward to enrolling more than one account into this crummy security system trying to be a requirement when it’s actually optional.

I hate this app. Basically if I leave my phone at home, I will not be able to log into my school's website and see my assignments. Look I get it security is important, but the fact that my school is requiring this app all the sudden without a heads up is just going to s**** me over every time I lose my phone.

Some sites when added by QR code don’t get any identifiable moniker, like an icon or brand name, or url. You just see the user ID you used to sign in. At least give us the chance to create a custom label for those sites we can’t recognize in our list.
Rachel_47's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 4/16/19 8:47 PM
This service has added hours of frustration to my life on several occasions. Fortunately my graduate program posts grades on a different site from my university account, so I have mostly avoided signing on to the university site at all since it started requiring Duo. However, right now I really need to see my tax forms from my on-campus job, as well as my financial aid package for the summer. The Duo app was failing to send push notifications to my phone, so I deleted my account from the app and tried to re-add my phone number. Naturally, Duo is unable to add my phone number or provide any helpful support. Setup seems to be impossible unless you are able to contact an administrator, and as PT student I am almost always in class during my university’s office hours, so it is quite difficult to get IT help. As annoying as this service is to me, I am sure the IT people on campus hate it even more. Duo should either stop targeting universities, or consider providing its own 24 hour customer support. Perhaps some users appreciate the added security, but universities should really provide an option for students to opt out.

Bek H's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 4/16/19 8:47 PM
Just wanted to let the developers know that the passcode experience is poorly designed. The first time I chose to log in using a passcode instead of a push notification was a mildly frustrating experience. I entered the passcode exactly as the app displayed it: three digits, a space, and three more digits. My login attempt got rejected and I didn’t understand why. I’d entered EXACTLY what was shown on the app’s screen. I tried again WITHOUT using a space after the first three digits this time. My login was successful. There is no indication either in the app or the login portal that the space displayed in the passcode is for readability purposes only, and that passcodes need to be entered WITHOUT a space in order to work. Equally frustrating is the reason I chose to login with a passcode in the first place. I keep my phone’s clock set 5 minutes ahead because I am neurodiverse with a condition that makes time awareness a challenge for me sometimes, even with my medication. Setting my phone’s clock a few minutes ahead is the only solution that ensures I’ll be on time when I’d otherwise appear rude, inconsiderate, and disorganized for being late. I wanted to log in with the quick and simple push notification option, but when I tried, I got an error from the login portal claiming my phone’s time zone was incorrect. I immediately knew it’s because I have Apple’s automatic time setting feature tired off on my phone. Rather than going through the process of entering my credentials on my computer, going into my iPhone’s Settings > General > Date & Time, toggling automatic time zone on instead of off, logging in via Duo’s push notification, then returning to the Settings app to reset my phone’s clock to fit my neurodiverse needs every single time I need to log in to a section of my institution’s website, I figured simply using the passcode option would be far easier. It is, but there was still a frustrating UX roadblock that really didn’t need to be there. If my college didn’t require me to use this app for 2FA, I would have abandoned it entirely then and there. I use 2FA for Gmail, online banking, and a few other online services where I care about protecting my accounts from getting hacked. I have never encountered an issue with my phone’s manual time setting interfering with 2FA before this. I’ve given this app a 3 star rating because of these issues. My “time zone” issue might be a unique challenge among your users, but I guarantee you I am far from the only one who got confused when the passcode didn’t work. That’s a very bad experience with an incredibly simple fix of either adding some clarifying text in BOTH the login portal and the app or just removing the appearance of spaces in the app.
alvisecarpin's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 4/16/19 8:47 PM
This is a good step towards extra security, but the fact that it can let you stay logged in for only 24 hours and then require the 2fa again is really flawed and annoying. The dev team should fix this.

Do I like security? Yes. Do I like requiring my phone of all things to guarantee access to my account information and content? No. If I lose my phone or someone steals it I’m SOL for my university account with this app. It does its job and is very simple, but because every 5 hours I need to relog in to my uni acct I need to have my phone on hand I’d strongly prefer having a device cookie or moving validation to email. To people who complain about complainers. Uni accounts aren’t really connected to crucial data unless the student is making a huge mistake in where he/she trusts to protect data

Emily Jar's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 4/11/19 4:17 PM
The app itself is pretty good with all necessary features for multi-factor authentication. However, the idea of requiring everyone in the organization to use MFA itself is just ridiculous. There is basically nothing to protect for my school account except for class notes which are made publicly available. Everyday I just wasted tremendous amount of time to grab my phone in the other side of room to make a meaningless click. I really shouldn’t blame the developers for the matter but now just looking at this app on my phone would turn me annoyed and sadly, I have to look at it at least several times a day.

I absolutely do not like having to use this s***** thing to log into my account. I, like many people, am not physically attached to my smartphone. I was someone relieved when there was finally a ‘remember me’ box I could tick, but it doesn’t function properly and rarely actually remembers me, and so I get to get up and go grab my phone from the other room to log in to my school accounts several times a day. I get how this could be useful, it’s not for me. It’s only a hassle. If I wanted to secure my information I’d do it myself, and people saying students need to quit wining and take it up with schools can stick it where the sun don’t shine, don’t you think it’s possible this company actively target universities to make easy money. We’ve tried to get rid of it, but it’s hard to make an argument for less security — we didn’t ask for this, it was forced upon us and is an unnecessary waste of my institutions money. Not everyone needs or wants this, but the company is very good at manipulating schools to think everyone needs it. My grades and homework assignments don’t need this “protection” one bit, in fact I’m at an A in three classes and hovering in the upper 80s in two others! I have a paper for my IR class and Environment class due in two-weeks. Now your product is useless to me, the info’s already out there, no tell me how to get out of using your annoying so-called “service”

My university now requires the use of this app but it mean the only way to access my accounts are if I have my phone with me, meaning I can't get into important accounts if my phone is dead, misplaced, or has no cell service. App itself works as it should, but whoever on the marketing team thought it was an appropriate app for universities is totally out of the loop. It’s incredibly frustrating having to authorize it when I’m just trying to check how many meals I have left for the week. I really wish they had a chrome extension for laptops, so I don’t have to take my phone everywhere. I think it would be more appropriate for schools if it remembered devices permanently or just alerted you when a new device tried to access the account, like Google has done for a while. Honestly has me considering buying a USB key to just leave in my computer.
annika.d's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 4/11/19 4:17 PM
The implementation of duo mobile at my university has caused me a long string of issues. I am studying abroad in Spain this semester and got my phone stolen. After replacing my phone, I did not have my duo mobile app logged in as I had to redownload the app. Also, because I am studying abroad, I don’t have my American phone number. So this leaves me without access to any of my university platforms for the rest of the semester. This is specifically irritating because, other than not having access to my school email with important summer job applications, class registration is approaching and I have no way to register without access to my account. I hope in future versions, account recovery will be easier.

The app works great when I have my Apple Watch on. I can approve access through my watch. But when I’m not wearing my watch, the app on its own does not seem to allow me to connect my my VPN network. Edit: I receive the push notification on my phone, but accepting it does nothing. Similarly, if I have the app open and accept from within the app, nothing happens and I am not successfully authenticated.

My university decided out of the blue to use this app as a log in rather then regular passwords. It is quite annoying to have to use whenever I want to access anything school related, even check the simplest things. It’s my computer and I hate having to pull out my phone any time I want to even do an assigned reading. Personally, this app is inconvenient. Useful perhaps for businesses, but not for school. My university is requiring us to use this app in order to connect to our university email account. I have nothing important on that email, except emails from professors. The extra step this app added in makes the log in process so unbelievably annoying, especially if I’m on mobile. Closing my mail app, opening this app, memorizing the code, closing this app, reopening the mail app, and putting the code in just so I can see an announcement from my professor is beyond unnecessary. Absolutely ridiculous. We have passwords that require to be changed every semester for a reason. iPhones already have a thumbprint identification step to make sure it’s YOU who’s entering in the password for a reason. There’s already a lot of security that goes into protecting these accounts, and this app should not be one of them.

Duo Push for two-factor authorization 2FA works pretty well. It's great to get a nudge to log in with improved security. But *beware* that the Duo Apple Watch app is not standalone. It won't work unless you also have your iPhone in your pocket. Unlike other 2FA apps, Duo cannot generate one-time-password tokens on the Apple Watch either, rendering it pretty useless. Why don’t they just generate the 2FA token directly on the watch like other apps? Most web pages that support Duo mobile do NOT actually support pushes. So you always have to type the one-time passwords.

Hi developers, I understand the frustrations people got when being compelled by universities or schools to use Duo security, and the frustration mainly come from the repetitive login request on Duo. Current solution to this problem by the team is the introduction of remember for 7-day feature, which is still a hassle to use. So why not add an option to remember instead of days but locations of those login-ins, since people frequently login-in at the same place as they were before be it at dorms, libraries or classrooms. Best Regards, Eric

C’mon. The dev tools to support iPhone X have been out for almost 1.5 years. That’s really disappointing and annoying, since the approve button is partially covered by the app switcher.
EviiLL's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/6/18 12:25 PM
Two factor authentication was long due for our agency. With mobile phones, it’s easy to just tug down the notification and click approve. I can’t recall but I believe we can also setup with finger printing and more? I would like to see f***** recognition done since we’re moving into that phase. Also, please look at a simpler way to accept the login. Some people don’t like notifications because they get way too many. I have explained how to limit the amount of notifications on their phones but they seem too bothered with it entirely. App is perfect so far with needing some minor improvements.

footballfalex's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/5/18 12:24 PM
Overall I know a lot of people give the app a 1 star just because of having to use two factor, but that’s not the point nor the fault of the developer. It sends pushes, lets you approve, and bingo, 99 percent of the time that works perfectly.

As much as I hate having to set up dual authentication, this app is the best case scenario since I can easily approve a sign in request through the banner notification when signed in. Reduced to 4 stars for not supporting the Brave browser.
technocoreai's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/4/17 12:33 PM
90% of the time the watch app just says that it couldn’t generate a passcode and asks to open the phone app and try again, which never helps. Considering that these codes don’t need network access and should be trivial to generate on the watch itself, I’d recommend another app.
mse-slc's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/31/18 11:46 AM
The application works great. I have been using it for a long period of time at work without problems. I even added duo as an easy way to secure my password manager. Many of the one star reviews seem to be based around a lack of appreciation for multi factor authentication. Indeed some seem to point to lazy individuals that would rather jeopardize their information and via proxy that of others because they can’t be bothered with proper security.
Ivey hot's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/30/18 11:54 AM
Hi guys, everything works perfectly when you use it for social media two factor authentication. My only surprise is why is there not a way to set a password for the app when you open it on your iPhone? I realize that Apple is protecting the phone itself with another password, but I feel you guys should take this extra step. How can I set a password for the app, or maybe a workaround using iOS built-in features to lock the app. Let me know

The app works great. It does exactly what it is meant do do. All of you people getting on here complaining about having to use an app are idiots. Security is a necessity in the day and age. The guy who said he’s “tech savvy” shouldn’t tell anyone who actually has a technical background that because they will be able to tell you are dumb. 2FA is not so wide spread because of fear mongering. Read a security article every once in a while.
lohepp's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/29/18 12:25 PM
Absolutely horrible. My university has begun a 2-factor authentication system and there has been nothing but problems. You have to have the app on your phone to be able to log in on your computer. However, if you don’t have your phone, your phone died, your phone broke, your phone got stolen, or you had to get a new phone (like me) YOU ARE COMPLETELY LOCKED OUT OF YOUR UNIVERSITY ACCOUNT AND CANNOT LOG IN. This has been a complete nightmare. I tried to download the app on my new phone and it will not let me add my university account.

If you have a problem with using Two Factor Authentication, you should take that up with your school or your administration... not gripe in the comments of the application which is functioning as intended.
sudo7's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/27/18 12:02 PM
Duo works as intended and it’s a huge advancement from the traditional 2FA, both from a user perspective and a IT integration perspective (which I’ve implemented from RSA). People who are complaining about their organization are not fairly reviewing the “APP” which is what this review system is about. The App functions well. I would advise they leave their complaints with their organization and learn more about what 2FA/MFA is and what it is trying to prevent. What’s funny is people are complaining about additional security but will be outrage when their personal information or accounts are compromised. I’m sure these are the same people who have the it will never “happen to me” mentality.

The app works perfectly - simple to setup and to use. Supports push notifications so you can simply tap “approve” - especially useful if you have an Apple Watch. All the 1 star ratings seem to be from university students that are unhappy with the fact that IT forces them to use 2-factor auth: no specific issues with Duo.
instaaaloverrrrrrr's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/24/18 12:10 PM
Let’s just start off by saying that nobody has voluntarily downloaded this app except for the people that are FORCED by their colleges/universities. It is absolutely ridiculous that i need to sign in externally twice just to get into my own email and ecampus and half of the time it doesn’t even let me in. I understand the reasoning behind the app and the security precaution but let me just tell you that college students do not care about other college students’ accounts. Nobody is signing into their friends accounts because there is nothing valuable to them on it. I have had my phone stolen/lost and it has refrained me from accessing my email and school account which ha sultimately led me to suffer the consequences. I recently got a new phone and i’ve spent the past 2 hours trying to set up my new device but your system seems to think that the password that i’m entering which i know is correct, is not. I can’t even check my final grades because you guys are so worried about someone accessing an account they don’t even care about. If you are going to make money off this and make schools think they need your service you should start to fix things before we begin to complain more. This is the first year it’s been implemented and let me tell you i have not heard 1 good thing about your service from any staff or student all year. I may not understand the hardships of being an app developer but i do know that if this doesn’t become easier than you can say goodbye to partnerships. Wow, you can remember a device for a SINGLE DAY? why even include that joke of an option? Put yourself in a students shoes for a second and try to figure out why we all hate this app. I have friends that have failed tests and assignments because of your app and it isn’t fair to have this sort of system forced upon us.

This app exists for the idiots giving it a one star review. Generally the people that have no concept of security get phished, giving away the password they are valuing so highly. Does exactly what it should, works just as it should; if you aren’t getting push notifications that’s on your admins not setting up the integration properly, Duo isn’t a part of that circus.

@smaedli's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/19/17 6:34 PM
The two-factor security approach works well. Initial setup can drive one a bit batty with its convoluted complexity (it isn’t the most intuitive process, but two-factor services rarely are). Once you get through set up, it works. As for Apple Watch and Duo, eh, that’s a miss. It hasn’t really worked well or reliably for some time. Hit or miss communication between the watch and phone, and the latest update pretty much squashed Apple Watch reliability. It’ll get fixed (Duo is good about that), but the fix will be undone at the next iOS or Duo Mobile update after that. It may be time for a rethink as to how an Apple Watch fits into the two-factor Duo ecosystem because as it stands, the push model of phone-to-watch seems very fragile.
1675S's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 12/17/18 12:26 PM
Too much layered “authentication” that only prevents you from retrieving forgotten login information when you need it and often fails in sending a code to the app. Awful.

I’ve been using Duo app since September 4, 2014, ever since Google Authenticator couldn’t meet all my 2 factor authentication needs. -With Duo app I could remotely access my windows computer at home & work with push 2 factor authentication! -I also use Duo app to securely access my Synology NAS and later my Qnap NAS locally & remotely. -I also use Duo app for my Google emails accounts, Amazon account, Microsoft account, etc. I normally don’t post these reviews for apps, but when updating the Duo app I saw all these people giving one star reviews. Rate the app not your displeasure with your University or Work & what setting/options they decided to deploy with Duo Security. Ask them for “push authentication”, it’s awesome & easy.

This app works perfect for what it is made for. It’s literally to increase security on your account. It’s supposed to take a few seconds more to login but it prevents anyone from accessing your account without also having your phone. I bet it was implemented because the IT depart was already having issues with users having their account maliciously accessed. Sorry to the devs who’s hard work gets bashed by people not smart enough to understand basic security.

After the latest IOS update, I no longer get any notifications on my iWatch from Duo. That was one of the most convenient things about the watch. At work, I could store my phone away in a locked drawer and still use Duo on the watch for the required two-factor authorizations to log into my work account. UPDATE: The latest IOS update earlier this week fixed the problem. I can love the app again. And the developer responded quickly with some advice (which I had already tried, but they didn’t know that). Impressed!

I downloaded this app to use as 2FA with my IG account. When I upgraded my phone to a new iPhone X, the app disconnected from my IG account. I can now no longer log in to my IG account without a code from this app. But this app will not generate a code unless it is reconnected to my IG account. Essentially, I can’t log in to IG without a code from this app and I can’t get a code from this app until I log in to IG. None of the recovery codes work. When I contacted support, they said, sorry we can’t really help. Because of this app I have lost everything on my IG account which I use for business purposes. I have no ability to log in. The ONLY reason I cannot access my account is this ridiculous app and they have no ability to help you when you can’t get their app to work/generate recovery codes. The WORST decision I ever made was installing this app that I thought would protect me. Now it has just locked me from my own account. Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS APP LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Redfox52's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 11/2/18 5:55 PM
This is absolutely terrible. Chances are for those using or downloading this app solely for university use is pretty high, so this is directed at the universities that require this abysmal system. This app is worthless. A password is already a system invented to prevent others from entering your account without your consent. Now, I have to boot up my account on a computer, type out everything, open my phone, open the app, wait for that to load, and get a random number, just to log into my account. This might not seem like much, but it does eat up time, and it begins to add up when I can’t even allow Chrome to remember my password because it changes EVERY TIME. Maybe I wouldn’t be so annoyed with the system if it’d save my system onto Chrome with a ‘remember password’ feature, but until then I have to get through the different passcodes on my phone and laptop just to log onto a system for my academics. I’m not sure the Duo team can help their system right now, so this goes out to the universities that use this system: STOP.
jnistler's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 11/18/18 12:23 PM
I only got this app because my university made me. As a medical student I cannot bring my device with me in many places where I need to log into my school account (ie cadaver lab) and the last thing I want to do is have to remember a code. I have enough on my plate, the last thing I want is more numbers and apps thrown at me. If you are a university considering requiring this of your students, I urge PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. It might seem like a cool and secure idea, but it really just complicates things for everyone else. Keep things simple. Don’t try to fix things that aren’t broken. I would rather change my password every year than deal with this. (Nothing against the company, I am sure they are nice people)
Sleeping Froggie's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 11/18/18 12:23 PM
A desperate plea to institutions considering adding this garbage to their already overburdened systems. If you value your employees, just don’t. Anyone downloading this is liking only doing it for their insidious log in. This is just another level of frustration for your staff that now has to log in to multiple different devices with multiple apps to do their jobs. This adds yet ANOTHER device that I have to carry so that I can have the great joy of being on call all the time, when we already use a VPN. Hurray for adding more glitchy apps that interfere with patient care to an already burdensome process.

I was forced to download this app and link it to my University email, which is used for every class lecture, homework, etc. I can understand that this app can increase security on my account, but quite frankly I don’t need this security on my University email. Every time I try and log into any university website I have to open this app and retrieve an access code. This may sound nit picky, but it is extremely inconvenient. Especially with time sensitive quizzes and homework, the extra 30 seconds to get this code is quite annoying. I would understand and like this app on other accounts that need more security, but to be forced to use it does not create an enjoyable experience

the only reason I’ve downloaded this app is cause IU requires it now to login into to everything. That’s for making logging in a pain in the butt.
Valpo516's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 11/1/18 6:16 PM
I have to use this app for work and school. It works in that it won’t allow access without approval through duo. But it won’t send pushes anymore. It quit after a year and a half. I have the latest version so that’s not the issue and neither account gets pushes anymore. I have to enter the passcode. Two favor authentication stinks for university accounts. It’s not highly sensitive info. I’ll have to complain to the IT dept there. A password should be sufficient. But this app works great to deny access to sites unless the correct passcode or push is approved.
Curlygalbria's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 11/1/18 5:23 PM
This app is a complete joke! Something happened to my phone & all my apps were accidentally deleted, I used Duo Mobile for my Instagram & it gave me a 6-digit code for me to use whenever I log into my IG. I saved the code in my notes (which by the way is gone/due to my phone being wiped). So now when I log into my Instagram it asks for a code, that I don’t have anymore. But, it’s not like I made an account with Duo Mobile as if it was an option to do so, & now I’m just out of complete luck in regaining back my Instagram.

Yea, this app is pretty flawless, works as advertised and isn’t buggy. But dear g** is it annoying. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve tried to log onto an account without my phone and was left there hopeless. This app might be good if you are trying to protect some HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL info or if your intensely into your privacy, but for platforms such as social media and education portals a password would work just fine. Now since my university requires use of Duo I am stuck with it, so I hope to see user improvements. Such as an ability to bypass the dual authentication on your phone through a chrome extension plug-in or something of the sort. Duo, I hope to be able to change my 1 star rating because as of right now, I really do not like this platform.

I constantly am required to verify logins for trivial accounts at my university with this app, and although the app developers are not directly responsible for this, I am sure the developers do not discourage it. I shouldn’t need to verify to login to my account five+ times a day. If you want people to be more tolerant of this verification, develop a system that auto-verifies accounts from trusted devices, I’m tired of pulling out my phone every time I want to look at my homework or online handout. Nobody is trying to hack into my account to do my homework for me.

This app always needs to be refreshed or reauthorized. Which for me, meant that when I was arguing with my dentist's office, I was unable to access proof that I had the plan that I was claiming I have. This app is terrible, and while I am going to be reimbursed, I will be missing that money until the payment goes through. This app is terrible and my life is measurably worse for having to use it.

My company has pushed 2FA on everyone giving us a strict deadline in which we had the option of using any Authenticator app in the AppStore, receiving a text message, or getting a TOTP card provided to us. I chose Duo! For people unsure about 2FA and didn’t know which would be more beneficial, they recommended an app. Well come to find out that that app was storing our data and logins and is no longer available to be used. I’m so glad I chose Duo, I’ve told all my coworkers how easy it is to use.

Well I have it. The app is such a headache and some of the passcodes don’t even work. If you don’t have your phone on you when you need to log in during class you’re out of luck. This is a good alternative to the terrible Google Authenticator. It's much cleaner, doesn't lose UI elements like GA, and doesn't double add entries like GA. It also looks more professional. However, there's one thing GA has that I wish this app did--the countdown timer and code color change, so I know when a code is about to rollover. Other than that, nice app that does what it says on the tin.

EviiLL's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 1/3/19 11:48 AM
Two factor authentication was long due for our agency. With mobile phones, it’s easy to just tug down the notification and click approve. I can’t recall but I believe we can also setup with finger printing and more? I would like to see f***** recognition done since we’re moving into that phase. Also, please look at a simpler way to accept the login. Some people don’t like notifications because they get way too many. I have explained how to limit the amount of notifications on their phones but they seem too bothered with it entirely. App is perfect so far with needing some minor improvements. Edit: I’m reading some comments with low ratings and it doesn’t seem they work in the IT field because if they did, they would understand the security benefit that’s now becoming a standard with 2FA. Some people just get random passcodes when it can be setup just to click accept in a pull down notification. It’s quite simple and takes less than 2 seconds to accept. To those who’re frustrated with this application you might want to talk with your IT administrator in regards to your frustration. Many of these comments are unacceptable.
Gamergirl422's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 1/3/19 11:48 AM
This app is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever dealt with. I was forced to download it for a school job, and now that the job is over I can’t seem to delete the “two-factor mechanism”. It’s connected to ALL my student accounts, including my email, my homework, AND my grade access. I don’t carry my phone around with me 24/7, and since Duo doesn’t have an app for laptops, I get completely s****** over whenever I want to work on my assignments or check my grades. If you can get out of it, do NOT download the app under any circumstances. You will regret it. Twenty years into the future and you’ll still be required to use the app to log into your email. Good luck out there.

My university forces us to use this annoying app. It uses push notifications to log you into your account. Because you know, changing your password and memorizing a new one every semester is worthless apparently.. So if by some reason you don’t have your phone on you or the battery is dead, you cannot log into your university account. I had to invest in a portable battery this semester for this exact problem. Instead of sending a push to allow us to log in, we should log in like normal and it sends an “alert” letting us know someone is logging in to our student account. Otherwise, please universities: STOP USING THIS APP. And can the people who made this app stop putting fake ratings to skew the average??
ace apertura's Review of Duo MobileReviewed on 1/27/18 8:56 PM
Duo Push for two-factor authorization 2FA works pretty well. It's great to get a nudge to log in with improved security. But *beware* that the Duo Apple Watch app is not standalone. It won't work unless you also have your iPhone in your pocket. Unlike other 2FA apps, Duo cannot generate one-time-password tokens on the Apple Watch either, rendering it pretty useless. Most web pages that support Duo mobile do NOT actually support pushes. So you always have to type the one-time passwords. But on an Apple Watch the Duo app does not generate any tokens unless youve got your phone.

Wow, I’m surprised at the number of negative reviews for this app from students who do not understand basic two factor authentication concepts complaining about decisions their institutions have made that have nothing to do with the developers of this app. Complain to your IT admins if you really want to make a scene about necessary security measures. I hope the low average rating does is not too detrimental to you developers. This app performs as it is supposed to and I can log in with push notifications at my institution or with generated codes for other accounts I chose to enable 2FA on.

I honestly have no clue why this is needed for my university account. Literally nothing of worth is stored on these accounts and if it were this system isn’t going to prevent anything. Waste of time. And shame on this company for reaching out to university’s to get them to use this feature. Like if it were my bank account I wouldn’t mind. But honestly for a university acc it’s pointless but I do understand the need for an app like this however they should stop support universities so I don’t have to go through this extra step every time. My university already makes me change my password every 120 days and that is the dumbing thing every. I just make it the same password that’s a little altered. Cause every time I change it I keep typing in the old password get locked out and have to change it again.
